Is An LG G5 Camera Upgrade/Swap Possible? - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Okay so I have the LG G5 US992 Titan from U.S. Cellular and just like some others who own this phone (regardless of carrier) I've noticed that a lot of the time the main rear camera is very grainy in low light or if you zoom in, even in good lighting conditions. I'm making this thread to see if there's a way to swap in a better camera from another phone and have it work, or if it just simply wouldn't work at all. I know there's a manual mode and it's very good, but I like to use my camera in auto mode a lot of the time when I want to get a quick shot of something.
I know this may seem like a stupid question to ask, but I don't know much at all about this kind of stuff, and I'm curious, so I thought this site would yield the best answers. Thanks for taking the time to read this, have a great day. ^_^

Swapping the camera itself would not work due to the software programmed for that particular model.
If you want better low light shots, consider using one of the GCam ports. https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/themes/cstark27-google-camera-mod-wide-angle-t3747263 The processing algorithm in those apps brings out significantly more detail than the stock camera's own HDR settings.

Problem with the camera?

I have a problem with the camera, meaning that as soon as I open the application I hear a noise (two shots) and if I look at the camera in the meantime, I see that the sensor moves. What can I do?
I have a Litening 1.2!
Thanks

I dont think that is a Problem had that clicking to on other phones its the lens that focuses, clicking 2 times when you aktivate the camera and when you switch
to Video mode,
The problem with the Cam for me is the real bad Focus, its almost imposible to scan barcodes etc. with google googles , etc..
im on newst Cam Firmware !
got 2 with this camera noise and 3 without.
no clue if it's okay ? why different... other lenses ?

Did you update through Samsung apps on your phone?
If not, you might have installed a wrong version that doesn't match up with the cam hardware in your phone.
I'm not sure if this a valid reason, but there are some different cams out there which need different firmware versions

this is mostly because there are at least 3 different cam manufacturers, you can see this clearly because of their different firmware versions (which is of course vendor specific)!

ya, that clicking is part of your problem, it is sitting to far out and can't go back. It shouldn't smack the housing and make clicking noises. I have this issue to, might send it it to be fixed or wait for replacement parts to become available.
Same problem but worst
Me and a buddy of mine both bought the 9100 together of the same shlef. Mine does the clicking sound and his doesn't. But my problem is worst here because it seems that no photo outside of 20cm range comes out in focus.
I am just unable to take a decent photo of anything further than this.
Could a FW fix solve this? how do i know what is my cam mode is? and which FW belongs to it?
LT
I also have issue with the camera: the auto focus is not working at all.
I can't tell if it's after flashing litening 1.2 or if it has always been the case...
I have applyed the samsung camera firmware upgrade.
hmmm...i think when designgears says the clickcklick sound of the camera is a defect, then it is one
i can't really belive in this vendor specific camera moduls for a noise reason... that whould be just to much quaility difference if samsung is doing that ?!

I and 4 of my friends have the phone One with litening Rom1.2 the others all have stock one of them made yesterday the firmware update the other 2 not
and we all have the clicking sound !!
can it be that so many devices have this defective cam,
and non of us coud get a good focus on close distances 10 - 15 cm
I just caled samsung support Austria and they sayd the clicking is normal !
I also have the clicking from the beginning and i havent experienced any Problems. Neither with Barcodes nor with photos. But to be sure someone should test the exact same scenes with 2 devices and post the results.
I dont really remember but i think the clicking just started after the Camera Firmware Update.
I have clicking with camera360 app and no clicking with standard camera .....
Focusses perfect down to 10 cm even when then going to max zoom

how can i test if it is focusing good ? which mode and settings ? thx
Clicking sound; no problems.
It looks like the clicking is a symptom
It looks like the clicking is a symptom, and what I think it means is that the lens is not sitting in its right position.
I assume that the further the lens sits from its intended position, the worst the focus will be.
All in all, if the lens sits pretty close to its intended position then the photos will come out good even though you hear clicking.
On the other hand, other people might be less lucky and the lens position will be totally off and so will not be able to take decent photos at all...
This is of course my theorem, not my knowledgeable absolute...
It's funny how the clicking of the camera is ALWAYS an issue with every new phone for some people. Many phones have it (not only the SGS2) and it's normal. Some people might have problems with the camera and the focus, but it has nothing to do with the clicking sound. It's just the camera's initialization.

Find it funny that in all the footage they're using all kinds of stuff to use the screen and in reality it's no better than anything else. I remember seeing a demo after the event of sumone who wud swipe the iPhone really fast for like two seconds, the phone would move on the desk and not give it a chance, even using the ends of his fingers. Where as showing off the Lumia he'd press down smoother and firmer with the tips of his finger and take his time lol.
When Nokia are showing stuff off at events or any one for that matter, you cannot ever believe them, they're gonna bull**** to sell their phone. Just wait for the real reviews and go see the phone yourself before making a blind decision. It's like the camera and how the video they pretended was of the Nokia 920 and then someone spotted the reflection of a bigger camera. How when they compared those night shots between phones the 808 is somehow worse than the 920? Obviously they've made the others look worse by turning off night mode and what ever else.
This is not true, there are photo comparisons with night mode on also. This pics were made from,, the verge'' and also engadget made some comparison pics with night mode when they was in Finland. So stop talking bull****, cause you have no idea.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Then how do you explain the 808 being worse when it's got the better camera?
Also how do you explain the press shots being so smooth and perfect but in real world shots by people other than Nokia they're all grainy and poor? Also I know for a fact that the GS3 didn't have night mode on in those pictures because it came out as that and they refined it.

Lol. Way to go. thanks for the review.
I personally was really sad when I watched them and saw, as you stated, that Wifi turns off on sleep/standby. Its so obvious to make it optional. I dont want my 3G limit going off when I am covered with wifi both at work and home and push notification is always on. Plus skydrive wifi backup of photos and videos, those shouldn't stop just because phone goes to sleep. I mean like if I update something on my pc/notebook and it auto-syncs to my skydrive, then it will only START to sync on my phone when and if I wake it up??? Too bad.
Also similarly what happend if on standby and Skype call comes in. Does it switch to wifi when I pick up? That needs some seconds to reconnect doesn't it?
In short, common MS what the hell where you thinking? And you had a beta tested 7.0 for more that a year. Didn't anyone in your guru team notice why its stupid to not have option for this???

Wifi goes off after 1 minute in standby if there is no traffic. If you are downloading in standby it doesnt go off.
Not really a review, but imo the best hands-on video yet, 18 minutes long.

Huh why all the hate?
Ask the random Canadien guy () for example how he felt about the night shots? You can find tons real life pictures taken with Lumia 920.
Lumia 920 takes best low light shots out there, 808 will remain the best camera phone, but that's not a big surprise. Nobody is buying 808 phone with huge hump on the back.
Anyways so far looking really good. Will likely order white Lumia 920 by the end of this week.

Thant is well and ok, but what happens in the scenarios that I mentioned?
So:
1. Phone is on standby
a: Skype call comes in and I pick up? Video?
b: New file gets uploaded to my skydrive (from other source)? (This in particular is very often for business user)
c: I receive a mail or other push item?
a skype question: when the phone is in standby, and you receive a skype call, once you answer the data should change from mobile data to wifi; does the switch disconnect you from the call? only asking because had this problem on android (not to mention the skype app crashes constantly too...)
Here some reviews.

Not bad for the Verge and their anti Microsoft stance. Higher score than I thought
The Wi-Fi and multitasking thing really sux man...Damn, I really would like to switch to lumia 920 or a WP8 device generally but I don't know. Probably just gonna get the nexus 4 in the end, price/specs/software is just better...Thing is, I just want a more unique device this time around. Might forgive those flaws though, we will see.

LG G5 Camera issues

HI. I'm new to this stuff so sorry if there already is topic where I can ask my question, and sorry for my bad english, I'm from Croatia. I have my LG G5 for less than a month, and I just cant seem to get a great video. When I take pictures, they are perfect, but when I record a video, no matter what the surrounding is, its okay, but its not great as I expected... For example, I was in Vienna last weekend and I was recording beautiful park, it was normal sunny day. The video seems to be okay, but when Im moving left or right when recording, the sky which is blue in the video, is blurry, every time when i move camera left or right, the bright things in video are blurred I dont know what to do, is anyone else having this problem? Maybe I have to do something in the camera settings to make it better. Thank you for the answers.
post an example
I will post the video as soon as I come home from work. Can I upload it here directly from my phone? Its 52 megabytes big

Camera Flash timing problem

Oukitel C5 Pro. Stock ROM Android 7.0. (Originally stock 6.0 which had exactly the same affect)
When I take a photo in the dark, the flash goes off twice and I get a nice image on the screen. It then goes dark/yellow'ish before going dark again with the flash switching off. The problem though is that the photo taken is the dark/yellow image. It gets SOME benefit from the flash but not enough. Why does it not save the "nice image". (It is as if the photo is not taken in time with the flash but that might be simplistic?)
Tried ALL settings, ISO, ZSD, exposure, scene, wb, etc, etc. Clear data/cache for camera app. Tried numerous other camera app. Tried pressing the screen to pre-focus. Always the same.
I still have my 4 year old Sesonn N9700 and this does not have this problem and it saves the "nice image", despite the camera app looking almost identical.
One thing that works, is to start recording a video (with the "flash" on) and then take my still shot at the same time. Bingo, one "nice image". But not always practical.
Have seen various similar posts with similar problems on different phones but not found a fix that works. (There was one phone where it would only happen depending on the charge of the battery!!)
Any ideas about this? Seems like it should be fixable, given the workaround starting the video??? Don't suppose anyone has the same device (or another Oukitel) and confirm if it happens to them too?? I'm living in hope there will be an update at some point, certainly hope so as it is the only negative at this time.
P.S. not seen any APK's for this stock camera, so not tried different versions. Not sure why but it does not seem to be a Play Store app??
Just for reference purposes, the quality of the Oukitel pictures is not quite as good as the Sesonn despite both being 5Mpixels and the Sesonn also being cheap and 4 years old! Even in good light it has a lot more graininess and processing affects, despite file sizes being bigger. Shame as I suspect it is more a software issue than hardware. The Oukitel flash is considerably less bright too which doesn't help in the dark, although it did not operate when in video mode on the Sesonn. I appreciate I'm not going to get first class images on these phones but If I could get results comparable to my old cheap Chinese phone (which actually were brilliant), I'd be very happy.

Rear camera blurred on LG V30 ThinQ At&T H-931

Hello friends, I am having problems with the main camera of my LG V30. When I open the camera it looks blurry and very bad, I do not know if it's because of the software or something, so I'm trying to try another firmware to see if that's it. If anyone has any ideas, please. I bought it on Ebay, the truth is almost new, everything is fine, it's just that little problem with the camera.
Same, problem. But I don't know how to solve it
Can you provide some sample images from main and wide angle camera shooting the same object.
Same issue, ATT from ebay, images worse than LG G6

Are you talking about ACTUAL picture taken or the camera viewfinder image before the picture is taken?
Also, what firmware version are you on?
This guy seems to be talking about the image he sees BEFORE the picture is actually taken:

Whereas the pictures themselves are probably great.
Sorry to hear. I have an ATT from Ebay and no issues, thankfully.
Have you tried a different camera app? There are numerous ports of the google camera app for the LG phone(s). You can try this one if you like, from my google drive: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1vXvtN7ZkUzahMEbSWKzwHSd68QRdp257
It's the NOHEX_MGC_6 version, it has night sight abilities.
But... any other camera app will tell you if it's the app or the lens. If it's the lens... well that's very unfortunate.

This issue is visible mainly on pictures taken, its also observable while taking them. Its worst on wide angle cam.
Is the custom camera app able to handle wide angle cam?
I dont have the phone on me, I will add info when i get back home.

Yes the google port camera app does do wide angle. But! I'd honestly suggest first thing you do is download any basic camera app from playstore. All you want to do initially is find out if the problem is the app or the lens. And (other) camera app will tell you that.
ONCE! you know which of the 2 is the problem, THEN proceed from there. I wouldn't go flashing other firmware, which is a pretty involved thing to do, when you could simply get another cam app on it and discover which of the 2 possibilities is the problem.
Cheers

tested another app with slightly different output, but overall not as good as my g6, so this points to be a deeper level of an issue (hw or some driver?)
refer to comparison of v30 and g6 for standard and wide angle (try to guess which one is which, hint is v30 is worse in both)

Yes no doubt, the V30 pics are less detailed / overall less appealing.
As ChazzMatt asked, what firmware are you running? ** IF ** it's a normal LG rom, for that type of device (the V30), then it's pretty apparent there's something wrong with the lenses.
I've owned a few G6's myself, am familiar with it's pics and (camera) specs, the V30 has better specs and (in my experience) better results also.
Honestly, the pics you indicate are from the V30 (from the specs it's easy to know which is which), look as though they are from a much inferior phone / camera.
Is there any chance you have them labeled wrong? One thing to keep in mind, with either the f2.4 or f1.9 wide angle, you need quite a lot of light to get a good picture. It does not have auto focus. Focus is set to infinity by default. So a lot of light is needed for a good pic.
As bizarre as it may sound, your pics might be considered typical of the 2, if the labels were exactly wrong!
Sorry, that's all I can think at the moment.

sw version is h93120d, kernel 4.4.78, build opr1.170623.026 - is any of that what you are asking about?
and yes, the labels are correct, they are autogenerated by zoner and I just screenshot-ed those with the actual pics.
the ebay seller (US) mentioned that the phone is under LG warranty, any idea if I can verify that or if will be able to RMA it at LG in other country (CZ, got my phone a business trip)?

I'd call LG and ask them about warranty / out of country repairs. I've never needed repairs from them so no idea how that will go.
Yes you're obviously using official LG firmware on the device, but that's not the latest available? I'd update to the latest version and hope, as you were originally thinking, it may be a driver in your version firmware? If there's no version available for update (from settings), then consider using LGUP? Downloading the most recent kdz is time consuming but might be worth a shot...
Look for directions to use LGUP, it's not bad. Need a Windows machine to run that software though.
