My phone, LG G5 Mod. H820 on AT&T, just forced an update a few days ago to Oreo 8.0.0, kernel 3.18.71. Ever since, gallery app crashes as soon as it's opened. Also, Google Maps freaks out and a couple other apps fail in ways that make them unusable as well. Tried 2 ideas that I found here. 1, clear cache. 2, update Android System Webview. Clear cache helps on first reopen, but after that does the same crash. Webview is disabled and button to enable it is greyed out(can't select it or update app). My battery life has also become RIDICULOUSLY bad. Seems like every time android updates it causes more problems in my phone! ?
ANY help is greatly appreciated!

"Unfortunately, Google Play Services has stopped" - Google has abandoned older phone
So, just Google this error and you will find no shortage of users complaining about this error message.
Heck check out the latest reviews on the Play Store: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.gms&hl=en_GB
For some it's a couple times a day, for others a few times a hour, for others (like me) it's 4-6 times per minute. Rendering the phone completely unusable because the message locks up the UI. It happens right after a clean reboot, and happens regardless of force stopping/disabling the service! Clearing the data and cache makes no difference for me and the vast majority of users experiencing the problem. Removing all Google accounts and re-synching makes no difference. Downgrading and upgrading the services makes no difference. The only thing that cures it is to completely uninstall all updates to the service and let it ***** about being old, but then every other Google app complains it cannot run because Play Services needs updating. What happened to ethical and modular development standards Google???
I have a Samsung S3 (GT-I9300) running Android 4.3. Kernel 3.0.31-2735602. Build number JSS15J.I9300XXUGNH4. I had this issue on an older ROM and also on a custom ROM I installed in the distant past. The only way I was able to fix the problem was by performing a clean wipe. I am NOT prepared to do that for the 3rd time this year. The phone is perfect for my needs but rendered completely unusable by this devil service called Google Play Services. This service and the way it runs, updates and crashes displays no sense and logic.
Anyone have a de-facto solution for curing this?
I've gone to apkmirror and brought all versions of Google Play, Play Services and Google Apps to the versions they were From Feb 2015 and played with every combination. It makes no difference.

Just set the location to "Device only" instead of "High accuracy", this stops the error completely until google fixes the issue...
EDIT: BTW, this has nothing to do with older phones, this happens on my Nexus 6...

Thanks but the setting you describe is not present on Android 4.3.

I am using this solution in my Nexus 6 right now... And really, its all over xda... Dont have a specific link right now.
luixffgarcia is right. I have looked everywhere and this was the only thing that solved that problem. Oddly enough, I got a message from Sprint earlier this week saying that if I didn't upgrade to lollipop they would disconnect my service.
Yes guys, there are solutions that work for some people but it's totally dependent on the version of Android. Generally, the older the version of Android (in my case 4.3 running on a Galaxy S3), the less likely any of these fixes are going to work. I do not even have the option that is mentioned above.
In the last few days I've seen the number of 1 star votes for Google Play Services jump drastically.
Well just FYI
I use XPosed on my LG G2 Android 5.0.1 and the module Amplify caused the issues for me. It's not the entire module but some wakelock that I had blocking enabled. This worked previously so it seems like they updated something in their library that would cause it to crash if the wakelock is blocked. For now I just reset Amplify to default settings and I dont have any issues anymore.
Hope this helps.
This is really bugging,
One day my Wear decided stop getting updated notifications. It simply stopped updating my Wear and when tried to delete or do actions I got an error of course.
I've tried factory resetting my LG G Watch - no luck.
Uninstalling Android Wear app - no luck.
Wiping cache and data for Android Wear app and Google Play Services - no luck.
I did of course made sure notification listener service allowed for wear app and that all permissions are allowed as required.
(also all those troubleshooting done, no luck: https://support.google.com/androidwear/answer/6090188?hl=en)
My Wear does get broadcasts as I can change watch faces or sync apps and their data.. but just no notifications.
I'm using latest Android N beta on N5X and LG G Watch with latest production 6.0.1.
Help!!!

You may just have to wait for another Android N build or go back to Marshmallow or Lollipop because it's probably a bug in the build as some other people were having the same problems.

Sorry I took so long to respond, my phone instantly died and took forever to charge back up, and my computer was down at the shop getting fixed so I had no way to access XDA. Anyway, here's one instance of someone having the same issue(s) your having:
https://m.reddit.com/r/AndroidWear/comments/4k3e4w/android_n_preview_3_notification_issues/
Once again, sorry for such a late response!
For future reference,
The issue was tracked here: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=210488
For me it has been resolved by N Preview 4
The latest update of Google Photos and Swift Keyboard apps simply no longer works on my device. The apps don't even appear on screen (open) at all. This only with the updated versions of these apps. I press the app icon and it flashes but fails to open and display the app. I've done all the reset/rewind/remove and install again/clear cache bla bla bla but nothing works.
The only way the Google photo app works is if I "delete it" (of course Photos is a system app so I can't actually remove it but return it back to factory version of the app... Then it works. but then it demands to be updated. Which is a problem and a bad thing to do (it means I am forced to keep an app old-dated since that Huawei can't allow me to use the latest (safest) version. As soon as I update the factory version to the latest version the problem returns. The other app that refuses to open (Swift Keyboards) cannot even be reverted back to factory version. So I am simply unable to use that app at all (in any version) and I am simply forced to use other keyboard apps.
This problem has never ever happened to me before. Now all of a sudden 2 apps don't even open?
What on earth is going on? Why are the latest updates of (at least these two) apps incompatible with the device?
Long story short, I'm stuck with apps that I neither can open/use, nor can remove.
That is extremely bad and annoying.

Hi,
my dad has Redmi Note 3 since several months. Everything was working good, but since about two months he can't see anything in Recent Apps. For example, he browse something with Chrome, minimize it with Home button, go to Facebook and minimize it. He should have both Chrome and Facebook in recent apps, but there's nothing there. The problem started without doing any updates or installing new software. His phone works on Android 6.0.1 MMB29M and MIUI 10.2.1.0. Have you got any ideas how to fix it? Preferably, without wiping data...
Regards

Install android 9 or 10 and u will see everything in recents.
Does restarting device fixes this issue? If it does not then check for update if available which is less likely but give it a try.
Does this happen with any specific set of apps or with all apps?
Make sure there is enough memory available to system to run normally, mostly 500 MB is needed but if possible keep more than that.
Check background process limit in developers options, it should have been set to standard limit if not then set it and check.
If non of this works then flash any stable ROM, i would highly suggest to flash any stable ROM of 9 or 10(10 ROMs has some bugs but 9 ROMs are pretty stable). do backup everything before flashing if you choose to.
Anyone facing this issue? I've set play store to never auto update etc but every once in awhile over the last few weeks I see several updates are pending then the next day they've auto updated. This is extremely frustrating especially with some apps like youtube vanced which I definitely do not want updated. I can't seem to find out where this is occuring at all.

Yes, me also. I rolled back a Gmail update and was very annoyed to find it auto updated itself after a week or so of me ignoring it.
yup, I have this problem too on xiaomi eu rom
I think I've figured a solution - so for whatever reason my playstore periodically overrides and resets my update settings to auto update and over data and wifi. This is unacceptable as I definitely wouldn't want to incur data charges for updates or have updates forced on me but is what it is --- what has been working so far is leaving the settings at auto update (wifi only) BUT going to the individual app I do not want installed and specifically unchecking autoupdate on that app. The hamburger/3 dots option top right in playstore for the individual application's home screen.
