Viper Audio - Google Pixel 3 Themes, Apps, and Mods

I'm getting the Verizon P3, so unlockable and probably unrootable.
Anyone manage to get Viper working?

I have it working as of tonight. Using the app from the 2.6.0.5 thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-viper4android-fx-2-6-0-0-t3774651
Install that APK, then install the driver inside the app. Optionally, if you want Viper to work in a larger amount of apps, install the Audio Modification Library module from the Magisk repo. This was needed for me to have it working in Spotify.

Did you have to unlock the bootloader before installing Viper?

I've always loved viper... I've been reading people have been saying there is an issue with the audio quality when listening to music with it sounding muffled and underwater, just wanted to know if viper corrects that issue.

AFAIK Viper has always required root, so I am guessing you will be out of luck until someone can figure out the bootloader unlock.
I posted the info to help others as well rather than creating a new thread.

I successfully installed viper using this method, but none of the settings actually improve the sound. To be clear, I don't think the regular pixel 3 sounds bad. It doesn't have as clear of high notes as the pixel 2 but the pixel 2 didn't have any presence of low notes either.
All I can do with viper so far is make the speakers louder at low volume settings, simulate reverb, which sounds terrible, or adjust the equalizer, which doesn't change anything. Any tips?

Are you using IRS files for the Convolver setting? That is where it's noticable the most for me. Headphone/Bluetooth quality improves drastically.

I personally like the Soundalive Clarity profile. It takes some tuning to notice a difference on the Pixel 3 speakers (much more noticable on the OG Pixel), but the headphone/bluetooth differences are night and day. That profile does increase the high note clarity on the speakers IMO.

As you mentioned, the Viper changes don't seem to affect the speakers in any meaningful way, so for now, I'll wait until our device is officially supported.

our device is fully supported, you have to use the irs files to really hear a difference. What cambunch was saying is that the file he used didn't make a drastic change, but that doesn't mean it's not working. The pixel 3 speakers are tuned pretty well out of the box, so results won't be super earth shattering. If you listen to bluetooth it can be really dramatic.

Care to share soundalive profile?

Can someone test something for me please? If you enable the Convolver and select an Impulse Response then play a video recorded on the phone is there a noticeable delay with the audio syncing with the video?

Thank you for the explanation, but it's not just the irs files that I want to use. Viper has a long list of tweaks built into the app that simply don't have any effect on the Pixel 3 speakers. The Pixel 2's speakers could easily be adjusted using any number of effects built into the Viper app (equalizer, bass, treble, reverb, etc). When will those features be supported by the Pixel 3?

Viper4Android works fine on Gingerbread, as long as you use the v2207. Any version above that only works on JB.
If you want, I´ll upload you that version tomorrow...
Please give me the instructions too! I really dont know why is there two apks (FX & XHIFI) !!

(NOTE: XHIFI never made the sound on my phone better, so this is originally for the FX version, even though it works also with XHIFI. Anyway, the FX offers the most options and best sound effects )
1. Extract the apk onto your sdcard
2. copy it to /system/app
3. Reboot
4. Open Viper4Android FX
5. Grant SU permission
6. Install drivers
7. Reboot
After that, you can customize the settings to what sounds best!
Oh, and don´t use the convolver, it either makes your phone laggy or initialises "akward restarts" .
Can you upload ViPER4Android Audio Effects v2207 ? I really cant find it!
@ killroy: found it finally! thanks any way !
Sound iss good btw!

Have you ever tried Mixzing music player 2.7.1? The EQ of mixzing is good, but don't know if better than Viper4Android in Quality.
Does this Viper4Android make music play with more quality? By quality i mean the sound is sweeter and the vocals are higher 'because normally without EQ vocals can hardly be heard, specially on rock songs'.
I tried many apps but none has made vocals become Clear and High to be heard good.
is Viper4Android worth the try for this?. If yes, can you show me your settings to achieve such good sound 'you can take a screenshot and put it here'?
Thanks btw

This is my personal audio profile(I´m using mid- to high-end earphones)
It works best with the v4a versions above 22.08, which only work on ROMs using the nAa-06-kernel.
What to do:
1. Create a Folder on your sdcard named "ViPER4Android"
2. Open that folder & create a folder named "Profile"
3. Download & unzip the file from this post
4. Copy the File Headphones.prf into "sdcard/VIPER4Android/Profile"
5. Install V4A as described above
6. Open V4A
7. Open Settings-Load effect profile
8. select "Headphones"
Done!

I did it all, well the effect was a little bit aggressive for my earphones xD but i changed it a little bit so there is no problem xD.
The sound looks like it become a bit more 'rich', but never more 'clear', so i guess there really is no way to make the vocals sound clear and high xD. Anyway i'll keep your effect 'modified' and test it more days, at least the sound being more 'rich' is also an improvement i think xD.
Thanks bro

i don't see any option with the name 'clear audio', so i supposed that was on XHIFI version, i installed it but there's no option with that name either :S xD. What is the real name of the option you're talking about? xD.
After testing today the yesterdays effect of viper4android, i noticed that audio actually got a bit worse and not rich :S , and if i use your headphone effect 'so much bass' then the vocals are even lower than normal :S . So maybe that Clear Audio thing you mentioned can solve this problem i think xD.
Ps: i'm using 2207 fx version. when i installed xhifi 2100 version the option Audio Reconstruction is very very laggy in the sound when Enabled 'looks like the sound is having hiccups all the time xD', i don't know what the f... is happening with this ViperFx thingy xD, having good sound quality is a total Headshot xD.

As said before, the audio profile I posted works best on versions above 2208. When not used on versions above that, the options 'viper bass' aand 'viper clarity' aren't available, which basically defeats the reason to use that profile.

I knew the name was wrong xD. Yes i saw that but you also said that versions above only work on naa-06 kernel and if i'm not wrong there still isn't any rom completly Stable on that kernel , so i guess that viper4android will have to wait because a stable rom is more important than increasing audio quality :S . I tried version above 2207 and the result really was strange bootloops and i had to Restore a Backup of the Rom on CWM :S . But thanks anyway bro .
Ps. Well, i started another thread in this Help section xD, it's about the Text Selection, if you know how to solve my question about this let me know in the thread bro.
Cheers
Viper4android makes the sound so much better when listening to music on my stereo system, through my phone. However, it seems to only work about 1/3 of the time. Sometimes it will be working, then I'll select a new album to listen to, and it no longer works... And vice versa. Sometimes it just will not work at all, even after a reboot. It's just completely random. I'm running it on a VZW Galaxy S4 with the Hyperdrive Rom installed. I would love to figure out how to get it to work 100% of the time.

Sound boost hack

Sound boost for all US Note 3 variants. You must have a snapdragon cpu. Will not work on octacores. This is the highest volume boost that is still considered safe. You should not experience any clipping or washed out sound.
Installation:
×Flash via gordon flasher here is the app

×Unzip this package and copy the file into your system/etc/snd_soc_msm folder which overwrites the stock file. Reboot after file copy.

Can you tell any significant difference in the max volume when using sound "mods" like this?
What kind of difference can you see in the following scenarios:
1.) Stock Sound --> THIS Mod instead?
How about those of you that have been running Viper?
2.) Stock Sound --> Viper Mod ??
3.) Viper Mod --> THIS Mod instead ?

I'm using viper from the playstore and it works great for my music. I work in a factory and plug my 3.5mm head jack into a kicker stereo. The phone speaker it's self seems loud enough for me. No to knock this sound mod at all but I favor the eq in viper. Just my opinion. The only downside of viper is I have to greenify it when I'm done using it.

From what I've noticed about Viper is that it doesn't work with every music app.
It doesn't work with the Samsung music player.
It will work with the Google Play Music app with wav (flac encoded) files, but not MP3s.
It will work with Power Amp will all files, but the Power Amp trial app I downloaded can't see my wav/flac files for playback.

I have only been using it for a few days but my understanding is that replaces the stock DSP manager once you install the driver and select it in Settings > Music Effects, so the sound effect *should* be global and affect all music sources. I do not use the Samsung music app, and I do not store MP3s locally. I had some, but many of them must be inferior rips because they sounded flat or distorted no matter what EQ settings I used. I finally decided to try Google All Access, and I am glad I did. Using the highest quality stream and ViPER4Android, it sounds 100x better than my ipod.

The easiest way to know if Viper is working, is that when you are playing music, to go into the Viper app and uncheck the enable box at the top. If you hear the music volume/sound change, then you know it was working, and you can re-check the box.
I know that it doesn't work at all with the Samsung Music app.
On the Google Play Music, it does work with WAV( (FLAC encoded) files, but not MP3s. I don't have the "Google All Access" subscription, so I can't verify if Viper works with it.
Since my MP3s weren't sounding too good while using Viper, I got all my CDs and did them as WAV (FLAC), and copied it over the microSD card (but took about 21GB of space). But it does sound much better than the MP3 rips I did of these CDs many years ago.

I tried that while streaming Google Music, and it definitely makes a difference. I have no MP3s or FLACs to test with the Samsung Music app, so I have no idea if V4A effects will translate through that app.
Since using V4A and Google Music Service, I have heard new musical details (instruments as well as front/rear speaker isolation) on songs that I thought I knew very well. This is most likely due to the poor quality of my MP3s, rather than V4A or the quality of Google Music, but it was a nice surprise regardless. If you have not tried Google Music Service then I highly recommend it, especially if you are surrounded with solid 4G or WiFi. The first month is free. It's not on the same level as FLAC, but it will probably be a step up from MP3.

I downloaded the FX 2.3.1.1 version from the xda thread instead of the unofficial market link because (1) the market link is in Chinese, and (2) I wanted to make sure I got the latest release. Install it like any other apk, go to Settings > Sound > Music effects and select ViPER4Android. You will be prompted to install a special driver, so do that. Reboot, then open "ViPER4Android" in the app drawer, and tweak to your liking. Then play some tunes and adjust EQ and other options as needed. The effects are much more pronounced via the audio jack rather than the speakerphone.

I'm using 2.3.0.1 and it "automatically" installed the driver, as the one from the Play Store had a list of drivers, and I wasn't sure which one to use.
Does the 2.3.1.1 also automatically install the driver?

[Q][I9300][4.4.2] What Audio Mod/Engine do you use on Galaxy S3 GT-I9300

Hi Guys,
What audio mods/engines are you guys using on your kitkat custom rom.
I have tried Viper4Android FX 2.3.3.0 but honestly did not notice any difference
[before the ppl who created this mod and ppl who use it religiously enjoy it come and kill me, sorry but i mean no disrespect]
So what more options do i have.
I am looking for mods that will
1. Not drain a lot of battery.
2. Offer good, clear, crisp audio quality.
3. be compatible with 4.4.2 KitKat Roms.
Currently on RRemix 5.1.1 + Boeffla Kernel OMNI 2.2
I have tried various customization's on my phone the last piece of my customization puzzle is good audio and so far i haven't found any good solutions.
Any help will be appreciated.
i got exactly the same rom and the same kernel and was wondering the same thing... i also tried viperforandroid and when you put it into expert mode you can change your audio to your liking (different modes of surround, gain, ...) it does make a big difference. but speaker quality still isn't what i would like it to be.

There are apps for that
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.systemappmover
You dont have to move it but when the app isnt a sytem apps it tends to stop the effects for a few seconds after closing the app and i find that a bit annoying

Could audio feature deserve more support?

ZTE advertised A7 with High Quality sound capability on the first place targeting audiophile buyers. The question is that users are satisfied with support what ZTE provide in this subject? Is it OK that Music Player cannot handle metadata in appropriate way, cannot list songs in right order, doesn't show any technical info about material, is laggy and slow after being 8 months on the market? Can't you expect more from an audiophile(?) phone?
Have ZTE done anything to share DAC info with developers in order to make HQ Audio feature available in other Players at least.
To tell true I am very disappointed. And you?
(Please post only audio related issues and opinion!)

I'm using Play Music app and the DAC is activated as far as i can tell. You don't have to use their Music player.
One issue that bugs me is the inability to change the EQ settings in Dolby atmos, they always revert back to normal and the sliders don't stay where you want them to. Talked to ZTE they said its a software issue and maybe the new update will fix it.

Through OpenSL ES. Unfortunately it converts everything to 48/16 first. Yes, then sound goes to DACs. I don't find direct DAC option in settings or a word about it in guide. If it exists please let me know.
Update: may be check wrong player.
I have found two players with name "Play Music Player". May be there more. What do I choose?
USB Audio Player Pro. Play through Android mode, variable bitrate (gets around the android fixed sampling). Worth the money and uses the built in DAC.

Luckily it has free trial version.

It also recognized DSD/DSF file. Of course Player can play DSF in PCM mode but it can payed it in DoP and native mode as well. Hurray, it is believable because AKM chips support DSD.
At this point I though to install Player onto Samsung Note 3 with Snapdragon 800. As I know SD800 doesn't support DSD. The result is same. It sounds in all three modes. After this I don't know what to think. I would think that Player overrides my choice and chooses the first capable mode. I would but why doesn't the fourth auto mode exist? Hmmm.
Update: Looks that DSD setting is only for USB DAC. Too bad. Anyway, the program is not bad at all. Thanks.
I did test and compare stock and USB player. Although UAPP writes that Android gets high sample rate stream, the stock player sounds clearly better. It is no doubt.
Have you tried using PowerAmp? It has built in DAC control and this overrides the Dolby Settings (Dolby app becomes unusable when this is selected in PowerAmp). Sound is great and it has a great way to control the EQ. I've using PowerAmp since my first Android phones and now with this is just awesome!

As I see there is no other option. The only problem is that PA is not free and alpha version doesn't have free trial. Correct me if I am wrong. I had used PA several years ago but it changed the sound badly in flat mode too so I stopped to use it. I hope it has been changed but I'd like to check it first. I am not interested in dolby or EQ.

The PlayStore free version gives you a 14 days trial period. Try it and if you like it I think it's worth the money.

You can download v2 and then sign for the beta. It will update to the alpha v3 build 703 and you can still use it for 14 days. You don't need the premium version in order to try the latest build

OK finally I could manage it. I cannot say anything about quality yet but I would have question. It seems to me that fix sample rate must be preset otherwise app does up or downsample. Isn't there option to send stream to DAC as it is? It is more annoying for me because I listen 88.2/24 materials recently.

Yes, it's ok. The problem is that i cannot set auto sample rate. I don't expext upsampling from PA. I would let this job to be done by dac. I think that's what stock player does.

No problem with that. I hate it not because of sound quality. I don't know whether anything related to sound quality can be set in this app at all but I don't even care. I can accept that others like Google concept but sorry it's not for me at all.

I am using PA (bought it) also and afaik the auto samplerate feature is not built in. This might come in a future release but despite the releasedate of the last beta, I have doubts that this will come anytime soon.
I still bought PA in the hope that the dev is still actively developing, maybe a little naive.

Best BassBoosters/EQ's compatible w LOCAL FILES on Spotify and Each Other (NON-Root)

Hello there again, guys!
What are some of the best bassboosters and equalizers you've used that works with Spotify LOCAL FILES, and are also compatible to run together with others BB/EQs? I'm using NoozXoide, and it's pretty good, but I also wanted to have some more bass (that's what happens once you go V4A), and specially, have some more control over equalization... I've tried quite a few apps, but almost none of them work with LOCAL FILES from SPOTIFY.

Then you might as well stop searching. Viper is pretty much the best and offers a full package. Everything else you can find on the Google Play Store is just a basic equalizer - at most - and won't do much in my opinion, except for adding another layer of equalization to the sound, which could possible distort or block out some sounds.
So you should really consider rooting your device.
If you don't know any BassBoosters/EQ's compatible w LOCAL FILES on Spotify and Each Other (NON-Root), you should not bother replying. I asked for some pretty clear recommendations. I know rooting open the path to a lot of improvements, but I just can't, or don't want to do it now.
Could anyone help me?
Anyone???
Anyone at all??? Please? ANY good bassbooster u'd recommend?
