Last week the Sony Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact got their Android Pie serving and today the company announced that it's about to add more phones to the list. A trio of former flagships will receive Pie starting October 26 - the Xperia XZ Premium, the Xperia XZ1, and the Xperia XZ1 Compact. Soon Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium will get to join the fun.
Sony said the Xperia XA2, the Xperia XA2 Ultra, and the Xperia XA2 Plus are also bound to receive Android 9 Pie, but owners of the mid-range devices have to wait until March 4, 2019. Until then we are likely to see Xperia XA3 series being announced at CES in Las Vegas or at MWC in Barcelona with the latest Android OS out of the box.
Singapore ETA
This is not official but from my own observations and XperiCheck, Singapore users should get Android 9 (Pie) on around 9 November (2 weeks from initial release).
It is official

How soon do you think that we're getting DRM fix for Pie?
that explains why there was no security patch for october
Thanks SONY!

Can't wait.... Sony really shows that they mean business with this, updating regularly and upgrading fast. Nice move, I am sticking with Sony... But please give me new phones with the mini jack.

Since sony seem to release a flagship each 6 months.. what is the support expiration for the z2? can we expect getting at least 2 years support?
Depends on what you mean by support? I'd hope we'll see support for new Android versions for at least another 18 months, but I suppose it depends if Google move to x64 for Android M .

at least 18 month..... heh... wishful thinking.
Z got just 12 moths of android updates.
Z2 will get "L", no doubt about it. Don't think we will see "M" on our Z2 officially (even if the hardware allows).
Xperia Z launched March 2013 latest official update (4.4.2) May 2014 and Xperia blog has it that 4.4.4 is on its way.
18 months official support
ends in mid october 2015 as noted by sony customer support
-may be stretched if the device is popular

What is taking sony so long, did they call it off or something?
You are not very patient, are you? I just came from Samsung to Sony and I've dealt with waiting a long time for firmware updates. The Oreo update blog post came out on August 31, so it's only been under 4 months. And they rolled out the update to the XZ Premium on October 23, so 2 months. It takes a while to roll out firmware updates with their pristine optimization to 10 devices at once.
So it was revealed the official schedule of when the turbo update will get to honor 9
September but more likely late October for all devices under the h9 banner

end of the year maybe, don't think they clarified it at the release con
all it seems is they want the gpu turbo feature on before even looking
the uk support team confirmed that there is an update due out in the week coming but they would tell me if its the previous waiting one or possible this one
Will XZ1 get Android 10 (Q)?
because the rest of the past years received 2 major updates, already xz1, received only 1
Maybe Yes Or Maybe No
We waiting for Sony road-map / plan for the update.
I think in next week or after
The update according to Google support will be released on September 3.
Let's wait and see.
Android 10 released but still nothing.
Unfortunately, it seems that XZ1 will not get Android 10. Update will start from XZ2 onwards (+XZ3 + 10 + 1).
It seems impossible to me that a phone with 4GB RAM would not get an update. Must get it and that's it.

Been a Sony fan for years, from Xperia Z3 till now, but the company's police about update really sucks. Like with SW50 smartwatch, not updatet to wear 2.0. XZ1 definitely my last Sony device. :sad
Same here. Been a fan for 15 years. XZ1C is my last one from Sony. They're just lagging to much behind. And one update? really? shame, just shame.

The site explicitly states that, in the XZ series, security updates are currently only being provided for the XZ2 and newer.
XZ1 will no longer receive any updates.
The last update I have received for my Uk m5 10.8 is with security update dated April 20
Will there be no more now with all the fuss with Google?
Don't think so.... Updates have been sporadic at best all the time and I think they stopped updating the m5
I've got a M5 8" and last update was May 2020.

According to https://consumer.huawei.com/en/support/bulletin/ it is no more on the list. Has only just been removed, as it was there last month. So there might be one last patch left (optimistic me...)
Since I have a US model, it never received a major update and only sporadically received security updates. Very disappointing.

Sold mine now anyway.
Unless this mess with Google get's sorted out I won't be coming back to Huawei.

I agree - and it's nigh on impossible to get a branded tablet of the similar modern spec at a sensible price. Or one that gets updates.
I'm getting my Samsung Tab S 8.4" fixed and updated as an 'upgrade' to my M5.

I'm no lover of Samsung tablets - but the current S range are significantly more expensive than the M5 was.
Though I believe Samsung have promised more updates for certain parts of their range than they did in the past.
I mean the original Tab S from 2014.
Mine just updated to 9.1.0.345, security patches dated September 1, 2020.

Both of my SHT-W09's just updated to 345 version (September 2020 security patch level) here in UK. Haven't found any bugs. Pleased that these live to see another day, there's no tablets come close without paying 3 times as much for the Samsung.
