Mate 10, PC Mode: resolution and cable? - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

Hello Mate 10 users,
I've been suggested to ask you a question I have for the Mate 20 Pro, which may behave similarly with Easy Projection (PC Mode, or Desktop Mode).
Do you know what resolution the Mate 10 supports for Easy Projection output? Can it output UHD/4K @60fps?
And what cable should I buy? USB-C 3.1 to HDMI 2.0? Can you recommend one from Amazon?
Thanks!

I have hootoo cable and it works perfectly.

Thank you @sonydesouza!
Do you know what maximum resolution and refresh rate the Mate 10 supports for Easy Projection output? Can it output UHD/4K @60fps?

With Emui9 Beta I can now use easy projection without cable. My TV Panasonic TX-L 50 EXW 784 uses Mirtacast/Screenshare and now i have the option to use easyprojection, that was not posible before. :good:

Same here, I got a Sony Android TV and works great the easyshare @4k...
My BLA-L09 Mate 10 Pro with emui 9.

Thank you @impala65, thank you @HackDSL !
Great news!
So a Mate 10 Pro running EMUI 9 beta and connected via USB-C wire to a Sony Android TV or a Panasonic TX-50EXW784 (Firefox OS?) is able to output 4K/[email protected]? You sure it's not upscaling from the device or the TV? It looks like native resolution, not blurry? And it's desktop extension (PC mode), not mirroring, right?

Hello alipik,
Huawei has created a series of connectors for the MediaPad 10 FHD. All of them on one end have the multi-pin connector to connect to the same port the charger connects
You can see a full list here:
http://www.vmall.com/list-9#11 (note: in Chinese but the terms like VGA, USB, HDMI are in English)
Unfortunately, I am not sure if you can find the official ones outside of China.

USB-C to HDMI... ANY Android phone???

Hey guys,
I'm currently struggling with my Huawei Mate 9 (PRO) to get output from it's USB-C to HDMI. I do have a specific post within the Mate 9 sub-forum and indeed even on Reddit but, I'm now beginning to wonder if ANYONE has got HDMI out of their Android phone from a USB-C port?
Have YOU got HDMI out of your USB-C phone? If so, which phone, version of Android and did you have to change any settings/install app? What was your hub and was it powered or not?
Thanks!

Mate 20 Pro, PC Mode: resolution and cable?

Hello XDA!
I pre-ordered a Mate 20 Pro. I hope to use it as a desktop PC replacement. Using the PC Mode, or Desktop Mode, or "Easy Projection" as they call it.
I'll use a big UHD TV in place of a monitor. And Bluetooth keyboard & mouse.
And it should even be wireless! (using Wi-Fi, and maybe Miracast if TV supports it, not sure)
But do you know what resolution will it support? Will it output UHD/4K @60fps? Wireless and/or wired?
And what cable should I buy? USB-C 3.1 to HDMI 2.0? Can you recommend one from Amazon?
Thanks!
I am unsure about the new wireless solution I know that it uses Miracast if the TV supports it. Else it uses a Huawei adapter (which I suspect only contains a Miracast adapter for the TV) Miracast supports up to 1080p according to Wikipedia https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miracast
For wired solution you should check the mate 10 forum there are discussions and recommender cables for that. Also it sucks a lot of battery. There are special dongles that allow easy projection and charging at the same time. Many only allow slow charging speed so the phone still drains battery while charging. There are some special dongles that allow fast charging. Look out for these.
Thanks Alfred!
Good point. Maybe a cable that supports charging like ref. B07F9WDS87 on Amazon ?
Also, maybe a wireless quick charger? There have been rumors of Huawei soon offering a 20W.
And regarding the max resolution using cable, you think Mate 10 users will have an answer? Maybe Mate 20 has been upgraded on this part? (max resolution for Easy Projection output)
I'm not 100% sure about "easy projection" but for samsung dex, I've tried a few cheap cables/adapters and didn't work, finally this one worked okay and it's a reasonable price ($20), I'm almost sure it would work with "easy projection"
Could not add the link but this is the title: "USB C to HDMI Cable([email protected]), uni USB Type-C to HDMI Cable [Thunderbolt 3 Compatible] MacBook Pro 2018/2017/2016, Surface Book 2, Samsung S9/S8, Dell XPS 13/15, Pixelbook More - Gray -6FT/1.8m"
Also bought a Logitech K380 BT keayboard on eBay for around $12
Hi all,
I can confirm Wireless Projection works absolutely fine, but I haven't checked the resolution as yet.
One strange thing however is that I have yet to find a way to use desktop projection via USB cable - perhaps in an OTA

But let me guess.. ur device Ur using either telly or monitor supporting Miracast right?
Thanks @vwite, I ordered the UNI cable. And a Logitech K830 keyboard, with an integrated touchpad/trackpad.
Thanks @Wiggz! Very annoying that you can't find how to connect by cable It's very unlikely that the Mate 20 Pro will be able to output [email protected] over Wi-Fi Miracast while there's hope with the cable link.

Yeah [email protected] does not seem likely wireless. I originally bought the cable for the Note 9 but I'll try to see a difference with the Mate 20 Pro between wired and wireless and if I don't notice any difference at all I might actually return the cable.
Just as comparison, Note 9 has the option of mirroring screen wireless but if I play a video is choppy, while if I use the cable for DeX it seems more fluid. Even if I end up keeping the cable for a fluid experience at home, can't deny that being able to "turn hotel TV into basic PC" when traveling with either just the keyboard or ONLY the phone (using it as touchpad and touch keyboard) seems amazing.

Well it theoretically is possible. If you search the Wi-Fi Alliance website, from the page about Miracast, it says:
Streams HD and 4K Ultra HD movies from a tablet to an HD television
Seems like the device should be certified Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Miracast™. And I don't know if the Kirin 980 SoC is. All I found is it supports Wi-Fi 802.11 ac and the Hi1103 chip is able of a theoretical peak download speed of 1.7 Gbps.

I could not find much either about its GPU, the Mali-G76, besides it supports 2 displays, obviously. The main display on the Mate 20 Pro is 3120×[email protected] So is it able to drive a secondary 3840×[email protected] display via USB-C?
has anyone compared speed wireless vs with cable?

I've received my Mate 20 Pro but could test only wired projection on 1080p screen.
I don't have yet a Miracast enabled TV or receiver, neither a 4K screen.
Btw, desktop mode looks promising I could launch a ton of Chrome tabs and not notice any sign of slowing down.

Frame rate is barely less on wireless than wired but there is a delay. Is not bad at all though but I find using my laptop thunderbolt dock for the odd shopping spree works well
However it does not support ultra wide resolution. My 2560x1080 monitor shows as 1080p

I just tried it using the Huawei Mate book USBC dock, and can't get it to output 4k to my tv. Only seems to output 1080p..anyone else had any success?
The chinese Huawei online store (Vmall) has a miracast receiver from Hagibis that claims to work in [email protected]
I haven't found any user review that explicitly says it works in 4K tho.
If anyone's interested, the model is Hagibis WFD0535G.
Hello to all who are using the Huawei Mate 20 PRO in desktop mode using EMUI 9. The maximum resolution I can output from the Mate 20 Pro is 720p. Also, the functionality of the apps-O/S available is very limited such as taking screenshots of the desktop, multiple windows of the same app like MS-Word/Excel and comparisons between full PC app functionality to mobile app counterparts. Huawei's desktop mode is Windows 95 all over again but for a docked mobile version of the PC hardware in the 1990s. It's going to take at least a good 5, 7, 10 years before DEX or EMUI desktop mode reaches the level of a PC/laptop level.
EMUI 8 - I was able to get 1080p on my external monitor. With the EMUI 9 OTA update, I can only output 720p on my external monitor from my Huawei Mate 10 Pro. Talk about going backwards!!! I was on chat with Huawei support. They reported it to their internal team. Hopefully, it's something they can fix or patch.

I did not use The original huawei easy projection cable
Nevermind. Wrong post. Moderators please delete.
Nope
It supports 1920x1080 only. It won't do t 2560x1440, 2560x1080, or 3840x2160. It won't do 1920x1200, either... I tried them all.
Dex does 3440x1440 and 2560x1440. It won't do 4k. It also won't do 3840x1600, the nice new ultrawide resolution.

S10+ DEX is compatible with all resolutions!

I've tried to connect the S10+ in a USB C hub with HDMI output (not Samsung DEX) to use it on a 34" 3440*1440 (UWQHD) ultrawide monitor.
For my surprise... it works!!! Yeah!!
One downside, at this resolution, refresh rate is 50Hz...

Hehe, I was hoping to hear what hub @geekoo89 was using.
Are you also able to obtain greater than 1080p resolution in dex mode using a non samsung usb-c hub? If so, would you mind posting what phone and monitor you are using and what resolution was available?

Hdmi out - realme x2 pro

Hi all,
For those who want to use their smartphone through HDMI, I am using a targus adapter, there are many brands but it must be "DisplayLink" certified.
It works great and lag-free in general use but apparently runs at 30FPS in games.
I bought the used ACA40US targus model for 6 dollars on eBay because it was the most compact and cheap I found, but it needs a USB-to-USB-C adapter, I use a usb-c hub that I had from a previous smartphone and so I can charge while use.
In summary, to use the HDMI output on the realme x2 pro, you only need a certified "DisplayLink" adapter, a USB to USB-C adapter and the display link App, and activate the USB OTG option.
Optionally you can also use the App "SecondScreen - better screen mirroring" from the play store, to change the resolution and choose the best setting for your TV.
Some Targus already bring the adapter to USB-C or are directly for use with USB-C, but they were more expensive.
a video of testing.

Cable doubt
Hello,
I bought an Xtorm USB-C to HDMI cable model CX2111 but I wasn't aware it need to be a DisplayLink certified cable. I searched a lot of the cable but cant find any related info if its certified DisplayLink.
I installed the DisplayLink app that you suggest, also the SecondScreen app and no signal, and I have a doubt.. you rooted you Realme X2 Pro?
I'm asking because I dont have signal on my TV or Monitor from Realme X2 Pro with Xtorm CX2111 cable.
Best regards
Nestor

Hi! This could be OT, but can you share your wallpaper?
Sent from my Realme X2 Pro using XDA Labs
I tried this docking station
https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/acc100184/
everything works!
Lan, 3.5mm audio jack, all USB, Display Port, obviously DISPLAYLINK.
This is my experience.
Edit:
I had to buy a USB C male to USB 3.0 female adapter and enable the OTG settings from the smartphone...
Loved your wallpaper, Care for link? ?
hi all, this is my wallpaper, it's from the book A street cat named Bob
may we know what brand of usb-c hub you using ? is it ok to use other brands?
