Jio phone supports hotspot.
I found hostapd, dnsmasq binaries on system partition.
But,we can't execute them without modifying system partition.
If you modify system partition you don't get any OTA UPDATE

i dont think we will now recive any update from jio

This will only work in F90M, if you try direct unlock on any other phone, the sim slot will never work.

JBStore has an app called JGHotspot for Jiophone users. Check out HackTorials channel.
Also, sim lock is only possible in 2430N and f90m.

I have an idea how to do it, but I have only little programming knowledge.
Here is very basic sequence you can follow:
1.put the phone in recovery mode, connect phone to PC and mount system rw using adb remont command. you can push all files to system partition via adb.
2.make a script for hotspot (which includes hostapd & dnsmasq binary execution) and place it in system/bin/ folder with permissions 775 (I will try to get it).
3.we need UI to get input from user such as SSID & password. Tweaking settings app or making entire new app will do this. This app should be able to write data to hostapd configuration file and execute hotspot script. Place the app in system/app/ folder.
PROBLEM: since jio phone has ultimate buggy software it poses a problem if we modify system partition, whenever an OTA update comes it will automatically download and try to install it. Since we have modified system partition update will fail and phone will reboot. But software don't remember this and again it will automatically download and try to install. phone fall into a update-boot loop.
To mitigate it,we need to redirect system update URL to local address.

[Q] 3G for flipped image

How do i get 3g working on an ubuntu touch read only image?
Are you using
Code:
phablet-flash ubuntu-system
???
Then it should just work by inserting your SIM card. Did you insert the SIM with the device powered down and then boot up? (You should always do this - no matter what phone/OS.)
Applications > System Settings > Cellular
On Choose Carrier you should have "Automatically" selected. You won't see the 3G symbol if you are connected to WiFi. Make sure WiFi is turned off.
If all that is correct and your carrier is not showing up, then your carrier is not in the configuration file. They've moved it under ubuntu-system builds and I can't find it ATM. It would be possible, if found, to pull a copy and examine it to see if your carrier is on there and what settings it has.
What country are you in? What carrier do you have?
Does anyone know the new location for what used to be "/data/ubuntu/etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/<connection>"???

Yes i did use phablet-flash ubuntu-system
Made some progress.
I live in india and my carrier is airtel. Its listed in cellular settings. I also successfully pushed the mobile connection i created on my desktop to my mobile and gave it correct permissions. However, when i try nmcli con up id "<connection>", it says Error:Unknown Connection
And btw, when in adb shell, for flipped images, /data/ubuntu is not necessary
What do i do next? Thanks for your reply

"nmcli con up id" is from Ubuntu Touch before they flipped the container and is no longer relevant.
I had the location of the carrier data file under flipped container and it could be pulled, edited and pushed back.
With the read-only builds (ubuntu-system) that push would not work unless you remount as read-write for that terminal session... I can't find the file location now though. They moved it (again).
If your carrier is showing up under Settings > Cellular and it doesn't connect to data, then your carrier data file does need an update. We just have to find the new directory/location/file name.

So I used Terminal on an Ubuntu box and got a copy of the file. (Thanks albanodesign.)
Code:
adb pull /usr/share/mobile-bradband-provider-info/serviceproviders.xml
Airtel is indeed listed... However, not all the MNC (Mobile Network Code) entries are included. Check this source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Network_Code#I and I also see some MNC listed under Airtel India that are not on the Wikipedia list. The extra ones won't matter, but the missing ones might just be the problem. They are regionally dependent and your region may not be on the serviceproviders.xml file.
The added MNC codes are all AirCEL and I think someone just got sloppy on their lookup when they built the MCC/MNC table for Airtel India. (To be fair, your country has a huge number of carrier codes.)
The missing MCC/MNC code pairs are 404/16 (NorthEast - formerly Hexacom), 404/94 (Tamil Nadu), 404/95 (Kerala), 405/53 (Orissa) and 405/55 (Jammu & Kashmir). These need to be edited into the copy you pulled. Follow the format of the lines that already exist then save the file with the original name.
Then you need to push the file back to the phone... but it is "Read Only" so in terminal on your Ubuntu box use...
Code:
adb shell
mount /dev/loop0 / -o remount,rw
...to remount as a "Read Write" for that terminal session. Then push the file back to /usr/share/mobile-bradband-provider-info/serviceproviders.xml
I hope that helps. Let us know.

I've not done this myself as my 3G is working... It's theoretical to help the OP (skynet central).
He would need the remount, rw as he has flashed the read-only ubuntu-system build.

thnk to you finaly found the right solution witch is: it works out of the box but you need to have a pin locked sim.
its strange but 3g doesnt work with a sim that doesnt request pin lock.
if it doesnt work either try and put your apn settings as mentioned in previous posts in /usr/share/mobile-broadband-provider-info/serviceproviders.xml and try again
i'm finally on 3g

If you don't mind telling me, what process is the one required so that the phone recognizes SIMS from other companies? Flashing? Sorry for the amateur question.
I have no idea. There isn't anything to flash. No roms, no kernels, no recoveries no nothing. There appears to be zero interest in this variant by the dev community.

Thanks for the information fellas. So basically we have to wait until someone with the knowledge can extract those files (Roms, kernels, recoveries).
By some of the comments i've seen here, i get the impression that only the high-end phones are the ones that the community gets behind? How unfortunate if true.
By the way i saw in a different post someone uploaded a Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/grand-prime/development/rom-download-sm-s920l-straight-talk-usa-t3265004/page2
Yes, and that ROM will turn your Grand Prime into a Core Prime (Franken Prime) with lots of things not working. There are no stock roms available for this variant.

My phone won't remember wifi password after rooting & modded kernel

after I came across many amendments on my phone (j7p)
twrp ,root, xsposed, Nonencrypt kernel, deleting systemapps.....
i found that my phone doesnot remeber my wifi paswword /ssid
after each reboot , also after disconnect & connect to wifi ....
I could not determine the cause of the problem.
I restored my efs via twrp, but the problem still present
so i came to a temporary solution, and i posted here in order to be helpfull to others
or if someone have a better solution... so he can guid us
first off all backup your efs and keep it in safe place
now open your phone buildprop it is in your root/system ( you should have root access, afaik) via (buildprop edditor or totalcommander..or other
then scroll down to that string
ro.securestorage.support=true
change the value into false
ro.securestorage.support=false
save it and enter your wifi info...again
try to reboot your phone.. if the problem Disappeared, then it is secure storage issue
here i donot have a specific solution ,since i use a moded kernel
but maybe you can get ride of it by deleting ss-data in efs folder (via total-commander .apk or es file explorer.apk ...)
this file contains decryption of your wifi passwords..., and other
the problem will disappear untill you flash new thing from recovery
here you can take another backup of your efs beside the original one, and give it ashot from recovery after you make Major modification
at last I hope some of Veteran members give us better idea
Thanks a lot. By the way, can you use your front flash with the modded kernel?
It's not working for me.
I don't use it but i want to know if it's an issue with the kernel or i messed up a step somewhere.

sorry for my late reply
j7P doesn't have separate front flash (led) ....afaik
the screen only turn into white when you are using front flash cam
as for me I updated my J7p firmware ...so I am using stock kernel at now
BTW there is no need to modded kernel if U use USBotg pendrive
in clear steps from stock firmware u install twrp via odin
then U can root your phone , put supersu *zip in USBotg pendrive
attach it to your phone, mount this USB in twrp then flash any *zip file... such as SuperSU,,, and then you can install xposed ....
so there is no need to modded kernel , unless you need to get backups for your phone

[VS995] LG V20 VS995 Verizon Hotspot (Tether) Unlocker [ZIP][FLASHABLE]

Based on the info provided by @ACalcutt here ...
Which is further based on the LG G4 Hotspot app offered by @geoff5093 here ...
I present View attachment VS995_VerizonHotspotUnlocker.zip
This is a flashable ZIP file that performs the exact same operations listed in @ACalcutt's post above. No messing around with copying files or setting permissions, simply flash and boot and go!
Modifications from @ACalcutt instructions:
- Name of APK is simply HotspotProvision.apk as the original is named, not HotspotProvisionVZWG4.apk.
- README file is placed in the /system/app/HotspotProvision directory to notify that modifications have been made.
Enjoy!
NOTES
- This should probably be used only on Verizon VS995 *stock* ROMs
- This was only tested on VS995 13A firmware
- Works with other carriers (MVNOs, etc., not just Verizon).
- ROOT *is required* (...at least AFIAK...feel free to test without, but I don't think it will work).

I can try...but as I don't have an H910 I'm not sure how well it will work without extensive testing from someone else.
I found this post here which describes a method to do it:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/att-v20-enable-hotspot-unlimited-data-t3524784
Have you tried this method? Does it work?
Are you just looking for a way to flash these settings without having to resort to the manual editing shown there?
Assuming that method works, and assuming that sed is installed on these devices (or I can somehow include it in the installer) I should be able to do it.
If you are just looking for a one time fix I'd recommend following the link above, but if you really need a repeatable way let me know and I'll see what I can do.
I have tried that method and it works.
I wanted to have it through an automatic process. There are many people who tries to root V20 everyday and need that easy way.
I also need it for repeated times because I do test different roms on V20 (it is a test device for me). So if you can make an zip to do that process all automatically that be really awesome and will save a lot of time of others people. Also I will be able to include in my root guide to directly flash while rooting an H910

Ok, let's start with this little shell script:
Code:
#!/sbin/sh
#
su
settings put global tether_dun_required 0
/system/bin/sed -i 's/name="tether_entitlement_check_state" value="5"/name="tether_entitlement_check_state" value="0"/' /data/system/users/0/settings_system.xml
Basically all this does is issues that "settings" command that the link says needs to be set.
Then, it searches for the tether_entitlement_check_state within the settings_system.xml file and changes it from 5 to 0.
Go ahead and run these commands from a terminal emulator on your device and see if they work.
Make sure your device is clean...as in you haven't made these mods already. You can revert to a non-working config by putting the 0 back to a 5 and issuing the following:
Code:
settings put global tether_dun_required 1
I'm also attaching a shell script you can copy over. You will have to set +x perms on the script to run it.
If this script does what we want it will them be trivial for me to pack it into a flashable zip for you.

The script didn't worked as expected. As I was using SuperV20 rom, the tether entitlement check line wasn't in expected file.
After writing command in adb shell (then su) my internal storage was locked (un-writeable). I had to reflash whole superv20 rom from beginning and then manually adding the missing lines in mentioned file. Then it worked like charm.
Can you add a condition in zip about if the line is missing it should be added.

Also can you help me about this notification that appear when mobile data is turned off.

I'll need you to send me some full copies of the settings_system.xml file - preferably from more than one ROM so I can see the full structure.
Also, I'm concerned by your description re: "internal storage was locked." I don't see how anything I provided you would cause your external storage to be locked. I certainly don't want to distribute anything that is going to cause someone to have to reflash their entire ROM.
Will this work for LG V20 with the Verizon VS99520c Oreo?
Will this work for LG V20 with the Verizon VS99520c Oreo patch 10/1/18 as shown in the attached picture?
Also, what's the easiest way to root?
Please help is appreciated.
Thanks for your time and response.

Based on the info provided by @ACalcutt here ...
Which is further based on the LG G4 Hotspot app offered by @geoff5093 here ...
I present View attachment 4508476

Hotspot fix doesn't work with Alpha Omega Oreo.
Vs995
Guys, this was simply a flashable zip that performed the steps outline from the links in the OP.
If the steps don't work anymore on Oreo, etc, then the zip won't work.
If someone wants to find out what the steps required on Oreo are, I can attempt another zip.
Otherwise, this has only been validated on the build listed in the OP.
Just wanted to say this still works on stock Oreo 20c. Thanks for the zip.

Did you do any additional steps, and are you using a Verizon sim card? I happen to be using a straight talk sim card which still using the same verizon apn values but my hotspot just suddenly stopped working one day giving me the notification "Connected - no internet" on the devices I wanted to use it with. I've tried stock, lineage, resurrection, alpha omega, and always the same dissapointment.

I flashed /system and /boot from a VS995 kdz onto my US996 to see if I could get video calling and and visual voicemail working. Yes, I am on Verizon... So maybe it only worked because most of my firmware is really mostly US996. I'll have to look when I have time, but I think we can do all sorts of crossflashing now with our V20s. Maybe you can flash an entire US996 kdz, then flash /system and /boot from a VS995 kdz.

Did you get this to work on a rooted stock Oreo 20c vs995? If so, could you describe how you got root on 20c?
I've been trying for the past weekend on my vs995 with a verizon sim card and haven't been able to get the hotspot function to work even with root on 20b. hotspot.apk is in the right place with the proper permission, but nothing happens when I push the slider to turn on the hotspot.
I was able to get the netshare+ app to work on the rooted 20b, but it uses an android generated random password which changes every time it is run. And it does not work without root on 20b or 20c.
Thanks!

Sorry for the delay, I've been away for work. It sounds like you may be misunderstanding some things or I am misunderstanding you...
First, I don't have a true VS995, I have a US996 that had I crossflashed to VS995 to test some things. I rooted with Magisk.
Second, why are you putting an .apk anywhere and checking permissions? This is meant to be flashed via TWRP. Did you do that? I didn't do anything special. I just did what the OP said: flashed in TWRP, rebooted and hotspot worked.
It's partially working for me in every 20c, either real stock or based on stock on a true vs995. Bluetooth and USB tether are working. Mobile hotspot is not. However there is no error, or directing me to pay Verizon--the slider does nothing. It seems like there is something small here I need to find, but I don't know where to look. Might anyone be able to direct me to the proper log file to investigate?

Try using the mobile hotspot icon in the top level swipedown menu. I was able to enable my hotspot that way though the slider does not work. This is on the 20b firmware with root.
I have the modified 20c firmware if anyone wants it. A friend found it on baidu and sent it to me. I haven't tried it yet though as the 20b version is working well for me so far. If there is a place to post it, let me now and I'll upload it. It's about 3 GB.

Open root explorer go to product edit build.prop change the model to SM-G9880 this will pass safety net and fix the error on galaxy store.
I uploaded the fix with new ROM, everything should be working.
Removed V2.2 includes bixby
Awesome thanks. The build prop edit worked perfectly.

One more question. My device is the 988W Canadian version. My carrier is Telus. I'm also having an issue with chat not showing up in Samsung messages. Not sure if this would have something to do with my csc now at XAA/XAA/XAC rather then the Telus CSC?

It might be because CSC XAA usually doesn't include much for some reason, I have been using this for over week without any issues.
Can you get me your Home CSC file, I can edit it and add files to this rom, so it should work well with W also once all the CSC imported.

So if coming from stock 3.0 for G988U1 with root, how should move to this one? Do I need to start with CL1 then move to update?
