Call screen - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Questions & Answers

Guys,
Just got my pro yesterday having come from mate 10 pro. Loving the phone but found something thats annoying me. When the phone rings it goes to a bright blue background (cant remember the image, an island scene or something). How can I change that as its SO BRIGHT. I know I will be missing something really easy but I can find it.
Thanks

[Q] AMOLED blacks?

Hi,
I have read a great deal about Super AMOLED plus screens having the best blacks because they physically dont turn on the backlight, saving power.
Now i have noticed, When viewing a black screen in the dark, there is actually a fair bit of light leaking through. even though it is "black light" (like on an LCD)
Can anyone else confirm this, or explain it?
Thanks
Its as black as black can be for me.

Perhaps the black wallpaper is not a pure black, instead it's a combination of colours to make it appear black.
I really can't see it in mine, but I've always wondered about this when looking for a black wallpaper. It's actually hard trying to find the darkest black using a PC, and wondered how you can really tell, as all black wallpapers would be a combination of colours.
I think it would be great for the power saving on the SAMOLED screens if you had an option to select "no" wallpaper or colour, so the background would automatically not actually turn on, using zero power.
This would guarantee you are using the purest BLACK and ultimately ZERO power on the background of your SAMOLED screen.
How does my theory sound
No Wallpaper and Colors apps in the Market will do a pure black wallpaper.
Use a microscope. lol
Actually it is a nice way to do it. Go to hobby town or somewhere and get a cheapy 10.00 microscope and you can look at the actual pixels. Not only can it help you here, but its always rather interesting to see.
Also, keep in mind that even when black, it still does have a little power in it, even if very minute, and still allows light a little bit, even if just in very very very very very minute amounts.
Ohh! Someone else has this to!
What happens is if you look at a pure black in the dark yolu will see almost white / grey areas, and it is not the image it is the same for everything that is 100% black , but is less noticible when something else in on the display, I also have a dark spot in the center of mine when it's on min brightness, Might send to Samsung, Or ask Vodafone they seemed to have a dodgy batch of phones.. this will be my 3rd
So I think it's a defect? The first phone I had didn't do this

Im glad im not the only one!
Yeah, I already sent my first GS2 back for screen problems, I dont want to have to send it back again and live without it for another 3 weeks. Also, I have subsequently flashed custom roms, so I would prefer not to.
If it ends up breaking, I'll just get the screen replaced when it happens.
Instal lcd test from market. When you see black, its like the screen is off...try it...

[Q] The color red looks orange on my screen :(

I just got my AT&T Note yesterday and I love the phone. I am VERY unhappy with the color though. The color red doesn't seem red to me. It's got an orange tint to it. For example, we've all see the basic google homepage. The first "o", and the "e" in Google look orangish to me when the should be red.
I have done searching for hours on this topic and the only thing I find relates to grays, and blacks having bars. I don't have that issue. Just that everything seems orangish when it should be red. I have done the secret code that tests hardware and that screen looks red! There is an app that will allow me to tweek the lcd brightness, saturation, and hue. But the phone will have to be rooted, and I prefer not to root if I don't have to.
Anyone else experience weird color issues other than blacks and grays?
Should I go exchange the unit, or root and tweek?
Thanks in advance!

A good way to tell if it's just your phone is to open the Netflix app. I can tell you that looks super red. If yours doesn't I would exchange it.

[Q]What should I do?

Okay, so the other day I somehow managed to drop a dumbell on my phone. So I got the entire screen replaced which cost $250 (screen didn't display at all).
Anyway, everything works fine...except for one thing. Some colours tend to give off a faint red "glow" to them. So for example, when pulling down the drop menu (CM10) the border around the notificifation icon (so around the picture of a cloud) is slightly red, and whe apps behind it (transparency) look a bit red as well. Plus, when it comes to black colors, it doesn't look as clear.
Hopefully that all makes sense. So pretty much, I told the guy that and he kept telling me that it's the software. So I completely reset it, the latest CM10 on it and still has the red tinge. Has the same thing no matter what ROM I put on it. Could it be that the graphics settings are all weird, or is it the job that he did on the screen.
What do you think?
Sorry if this isn't the right place, I just don't know what to do as I forked a bit of money to get this.
Might be a non genuine/non Samsung screen ?
Try gb or ics and if its still the same,go back to repairer for a fist to face discussion.
And you can get a screen here fitted for £80(so if your quote is u.s dollars youve been ripped off).
What do you want us to do? It sounds like a physical problem. You know the problem and you know how to fix it. Take it back to the guy who replaced the screen and talk to him. There is nothing anyone on XDA can do for you.

Strange tear under screen

So here is my dilemma and I need some community input or advice. I have a GN2 titanium. I bought it at my employer Bestbuy. Thing is, there is a strange looking line that resembles a tear under the screen that is slightly curved and is about 3/4" long, maybe a tad more. You can ONLY SEE it when the brightness is turned ALL THE WAY DOWN and you are on a screen that is dark. Now if you go into the light with the darkness down all the way it goes away. Full brightness it cannot be seen. Not even at half brightness or 1/4 brightness can it be seen. Thing is I could easily return it BUT bestbuy stopped carrying the titanium on verizon the day they got it! Crazy right , in other words we are sold out of titanium and are not getting more in. I could always get a white one but I don't think I want a white one. Truth be told I think it's just bugging me and need to tell someone lol. If it was your GN2 would you for one even notice it,and if so would you just roll with it? I have to do all the steps above just to see it. I noticed it when watching on mx player in bed at night on low brightness. The touch screen works fine in that area and everything. I wish I could take a picture but I cant seem to get it to show up in a picture.
tl;dr ?
-Strange tear under glass
-causes no touchscreen/pen issues
-only viewable at 0 brightness , in the dark , on a dark image
-exchange for a white GN2
-live with it

thank god im not bat sh!t crazy and someone else has seen this, its strange eh? i think ill sit on it as well
Hmm you sure this isn't just the blotches that show up on amoled screens when it goes dark. If you shut the phone all the way off does the line go away. From what it sounds like without actually seeing the phone it sounds like what I described above. If it is. All the super amoled screens tend to do that

sounds pretty typical of an amoled screen they all suffer from it under very low brightness, I haven't noticed on mine may be because I stopped paying attention for it a long long time ago lol, after having a few phones with amoled screens.
I have the same issue. Even started a thread about it in the Q&A section. Glad I'm not the only one to have it lol

Yep both my Note 2's have the same problem, both are Titanium Gray. My brother got a launch day Marble White from the Verizon store and his screen is immaculate. Not a single black spot or line on his screen. We flipped the lights and tested them using the same app. Once our eyes adjusted, which didn't take more than 10 seconds, it was immediately clear the difference between my phone and his. His screen not only had a deeper black than mine, but it was free of any markings while mine looked brighter and had noticeable splotches all over.
Niiiiiiice.

I don't think the color of the devices have anything to do with it. But all amoled screens are different. I guess I since of the lucky ones mine performs great but had only one little dark spot right under the Samsung logo.

Mate 10 Pro - Display Problem? Anyone else?

So, i got my self Mate 10 Pro week ago, and i've noticed it has some display issues with uniformity.
I've found out this by accident, during reading before sleep i have it at lowest brightness possible, so it doesn't tire my eyes.
Anyway when is it set at lowest brightness (with darker colors present) there seems to be that left side of display is darker than right one.
I took some pictures so you can better see what i mean.
Am i alone in this, or is it widespread with other Mates?
Is this a reason to file up warranty case, or Huawei can get away with it because that seems to be nature of (AM)OLED displays?
It is "itching" me now... To pay like 800 euros for flagship device, only to find out that it has issues.
Can any from you take some pictures of your device and post it?
It has to be done in dark room with lowest brightness.
Hello,
for the pictures with the light in the middle:
What app is this?
I'd be happy trying to reproduce this.
It is OLED Tools app from play Store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oledtools&hl=en
Take the last test called Uniformity Test.
When you are there swipe left to lower the brightness.
Also you can choose the color, for my unit problem was best visible with grey and green.
Let me know with results!
My M10 Pro screen looks perfect.
And mine mate 10 pro screen looks all right testing with this app
So it is my unit after all.
Looks like i'll need to send it for a repair.
I have the same. did you return to the website? did they do something?
Just sent it today to the official Huawei Service Centre (here in my country). Now i need to wait a few days for them to receive it, and see what they say.
BTW, you have the same thing, left side darker than right one? Or different?
in my case it is darker in the left corner.
any new news?
What brightness are your pictures? in this app i have left 0 (all black) and right 31 (bright)
When around 8 my bottom screen loocks darker... but i never noticed it during normal usage so i do not care
btw: i can recreate it in chrome too so its not just the app
I think this is normal oled behaviour... I never use it on min brightness anyway/wouldnt have noticed wihtout you pointing it out
Since there seem to be multiple people here with this problem i think its normal oled... just google it

exactly...OLED simply works like that... i had similar "issue" with sgs7 phone only in low brightnes..OLED cannot compare with LCD when it comes to flickering or pulsing this is the way they work and we should accept it.
Well, I'm still waiting for device, since the official Huawei repair shop considered/recognized it as display issue. Probably they are waiting for parts (display) so it can be replaced.
EDIT:
Brightness was around 7 in the app. That way the problem was most visible.
I got my phone back today. In service report it states that they changed display along with back side glass (i assume because of waterproof properties of the phone).
Anyhow, with the new display, phone have the same problem, so i guess it isn't the problem per se, its just nature of OLED...
[/COLOR]I'm experiencing the same problem on my 3rd device now. That's right! Third! I've returned my phone 2 times, and gotten a replacement each time. The problem still persists...
Still struggling with the seller and Huawei to get it fixed, but it's looking grim.
I have the same problem. Typical for oled. All Note 4 and galaxy s7 had same problem...
Send it back and get a new one from Amazon. I saw this problem with the camera in white or clears walls. It seems "banding".
Send it back another time, this new unit is worse that last.

Hi! Do you have the problem now and don't exchange it?
I had in january the Mate 10 Pro and sold it, because I had the same display problem.
Then I bought in April the P20 Pro. This device had the problem, too!
1 week ago I got the Mate 10 Pro for a very good price, but this device have the problem again!
I think, it's a normal behaviour of HUAWEI OLED Screen.
You can exchange and exchange it, and the problem will come again.
Same here. Left side is darker at low brightness.
Thinking about trading it in for a normal Mate 10. That one has an IPS display. I really have no use for dual SIM, so I couldn't care less about losing that.
HUAWEI is using LG's OLED panels, so issues are very common. They're not very good compared to Samsung's new panels, but also way cheaper.
