Huawei Mediapad M5 10.8 Versions - Huawei MediaPad M5 Questions & Answers

Hi guys, perhaps this has been asked many times yet I wonder if there are different versions of the mediapad m5 10.8, i know there exist the CMR-W09 in black and champaigne available thru newegg and amazon, but there are also versions from china, as far as I know from what I read the american versions got some patch that allowed them to get widevine L1 and Netflix but the chinese versions would never g et this patch, I wonder if there's a way to know if there are american versions and chinese versions (models), and how to identify them, over amazon there are sellers that got this product but my main worry is that they are selling chinese models as american models and so on, if someone could give me a hand with this i'm kind of confused already and the posts dont help much. thanks

I asked Huawei, Newegg and Amazon and I was told the CMR-W09B is the US version. On Amazon it shows the version to be CMR-W09B, but Newegg does not show the "B". But the Newegg response was their version was the US version. I trust Amazon more than Newegg. This tablet price dropped today to $319.99 until November 26th.

Actually, I don't trust Amazon. I stopped buying most of my electronics from them. Many of their Amazon products they sell (not third party vendors) have been overseas knock-offs, from water filters, to electronics.
I purchased the Mediapad M5 Pro from B&H Photo, never a problem with them, and great customer service. The tablets are on sale there also (and no tax in many states.) My model number is CMR-W19 and I know it is the US version because I just did a firmware update from Hauwei and it said in the firmware it was the US version. I look on Amazon and their model number is Cameron-W19B, which is odd. Buy at your own risk from Amazon.

I checked into B&H and they show it as a new item-coming soon. I could not find the model number on it. I emailed HuaweiUSA and they told me the CMR-W09B was the US version. I am thinking they are both the same thing. I just did a chat with HuaweiUSA and they said both models are for the US. She said the difference is the amount of storage. But everything I have seen shows the storage being the same which is 64gb.

Where is the best place to buy a GSII?

I know the US model is coming out VERY soon but I really want to get this phone. Right now I am an infuse owner and was looking to just buy this outright since I used my upgrade on the infuse a couple months ago. Where do you guy recommend me ordering one? Or the one that seems to be the most reliable? I was looking at amazon and a few other site but just cant decide. Thanks in advance!
Amazon. Nowhere will you get a warranty (aside from Expansys USA which offers mail in warranty back to the UK).
Plus with Amazon, my box was sealed and I got a Brazilian model that's one of the first to get 2.3.4.

Was that ordered directly from amazon, or from a 3rd party store fulfilled by amazon?
Also, they have used-like new galaxy s2 for $629.99, that qualifies for SquareTrade.

Directly from Amazon (i.e. "ships from and sold by Amazon.com"). I'm not fond of resellers for unlocked phones. I once ordered a Nexus S I9020A (for AT&T's network) from a reseller on Amazon. Sure enough, I received an I9023 (European model - not compatible with AT&T). I promptly returned it. I just trust Amazon direct and don't like rolling the dice with 3rd part sellers.
Careful on the open box...I ordered an open box SGSII from Amazon and received a friggin Verizon phone (used and beat up). Some jerkoff stole the SGSII and returned the box with a Verizon phone in it. See my photo on the product listing.
I have never ever had any issues with Warehouse deals (open box) items from Amazon, but got burned pretty bad with that one. The good news is Amazon kindly credited my account for the return and even gave me a $50 credit, making a brand new SGSII the same price. Can't ask for more than that.
I bought my gs2 from Popular Electronics, who is based in Chicago. I live in Canada. Interesting experience with these guys. They have their store warranty, which is useful. I'm not sure how long that warranty is for. They ship free to the US too. Right now, the phone is cheaper than the one on Amazon. Plus, they have a "Low price guarantee" and will match any other prices anyway.
I'm from Canada. My first phone gs2 (brand new, fully sealed with seal sticker) was defected (hardware, touch screen didn't work lol). I called them and they gladly helped me with a replacement phone. I had to pay to ship it to them though 2nd phone, another hardware defect (line of dead pixels). Once again, it was brand new and fully sealed. They couldn't believe that of all the customers they've sold the gs2 to, I was the unlucky one to have 2 faulty phones. They took that one back too and sent me my current gs2 which runs perfectly smooth. If you call them, ask for Tahal (possibly spelled as Taha) He is the man!

If you mean this photo: (http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-m...TBQ2C/ref=cm_ciu_pdp_images_0?ie=UTF8&index=0) I've seen it. With the difference of ~$30 or so, I think it is worth the risk...

Yep, that is my photo. Imagine how pissed I was when I got home, ripped the box open only to discover that...
As usual, Amazon made it right. It does piss me off that someone swapped it and made off with a SGSII. They probably paid like $100 on craigslist for that Verizon junk. Punk.

Asus Parts

I just got referred to this site by Asus to purchase a replacement uk clip for the charger as they won't replace my broken one.
http://www.asusparts.eu/index.php?cPath=222155_222301
Prices are pretty good until you add the DHL cost to uk.
€6.67 plus vat for the clip and €17.55 for delivery.
May be cheaper if your in mainland Europe though.
May as well go to asus uk and get the full kit for £24.99 plus £6 delivery.
All I gotta say is Europeans are annoying! They keep bidding on my ebay items even though I specifically said US bidders only. For example, I just sold a hard drive to a European bidder. My shipping price was 9.99, but that was for US only! It's been like 4 days and the guy hasn't paid yet, so I had to relist.
Last night, I was able to find the settings to block foreign bidders.
Annoying Europeans... why don't they buy locally? Why bid on hard drives half a world away?

Totally agree with you there.
I wouldn't buy from US or China etc due to the high shipping costs.
I myself sell to UK only yet still get requests from Spain, Germany etc etc even though it's listed as uk only.
There certainly are a lot of empty heads about
Anyway I just ordered the new charger from Asus UK at £30.99 inc delivery and paid by paypal.

US Buyer Reccomendation

I am in the US looking to buy one of these. Any recommended sellers?
From xperia blog they recommend Clove and Handtec from the UK. Handtec seems cheaper (vs ebay for perhaps better returns/warranty).
I'd appreciate any recommendations from people here who have purchased.
Handtec sells for $572. Ebay is closer to $540
If I do get it from ebay (from taiwan or HK), could I run into issues with languages?

I got one from clove. No issues.
Sent from my Nexus 5X
I purchased mines at Plemix for $520 + $28 shipping. Also purchased a Z1 compact there with no problems. Shipping was within 2 days so that's a plus. Currently, there's a free 32 GB memory card special until the end of the month. Haven't really had any issues with them and never really contacted customer service so I can't say anything about that. Not too sure about the returns/warranty but there's info about that on their website.
Thanks. Although from some quick research on Plemix I see some mixed reviews. I'm sure most of these places online are fine if everything goes smoothly. Its really when something goes wrong (ie. item arriving damanged, DOA) to see how it is handled.
I've also noticed that Amazon UK has it for cheaper than Clove and Handtec. The Xperiablog article said AmazonUK does not allow VAT to be excluded but it was excluded when I added it to the cart. Actually, I notice I can buy directly on Amazon US for around $540. I might just do that.

Isn't the one listed on amazon from third party retailers like expansys? I wonder how they handle returns just in case.. any idea??
I got mine from Amazon for $550 and received it next day thanks to Prime shipping. No issues.
I ended up ordering through amazon as well. I decided to save $10 and get the non-prime option. Although I ordered it Friday and it came today. I just wasnt at home to sign for it. (Missed the guy by 10min)
I think the only issue will be if I need to send it back for warranty. I'll have to pay shipping both ways to Hong Kong or Taiwan or wherever the phone originated from.

I live in Australia and have bought the z1 and z3 compact from Clove UK, have bought other tech from Handtek, had no problems or issues with using Australia cell provider, support or anything. I now have the z5 compact which I bought from ebay Quality Deals Store on Ebay when ebay had 20% off store wide recently, got it delivered for a bargain $600 AUD. The phone came quick, set it up in English easy and it works on Australian networks etc. Couldn't be happier ☺
Amazon was perfect for me. These past two weeks has it seldom carry the Z5c as Prime... usually a seller ships some 10 devices to Amazon's warehouses (to be categorized as Prime) but those fly off the shelves. In the past two weeks I have seem some 60 Z5c as Prime to disappear within hours, but if you look daily, they are there.
If you are in the US, at $550 Prime is worth it over ebay's $540 in my opinion; faster shipping and 30 days possibility to return it.
do you need amazon prime account for it? is this different from 3rd party sellers on amazon?

Where did you buy your 8GB / 256GB with Band 20 in the UK?

I am trying to get a hold of the 8gb / 256gb version of the K20 Pro with band 20 within the UK but it has been a complete nightmare.
I tried from Aliexpress which lost the phone and egobalexpress which has been 'processing' for almost two weeks now.
Did people just acquire their phones from these stores or are there more reliable sellers available?
I know this version of he phone is imported from china but are there any stores where they have stock readily available so you wont have to wait for weeks to months after which you still may not receive your order?
The reliable sellers don't have any in stock, same as the aliexpress and eglobal types, but the difference is they won't let you place an order.
Your eglobal order will get cancelled as soon as you challenge them on despatch.

Would you mind letting me know which ones are legit so I can track the stock for when they do get some?
Gearbest seems to be working for me so far, but I can't give you any assurances.
I bought mine from eGlobalCentral UK.
Paid with paypal as safety precaution.
It took almost 20 days for me.
My country has an authorized official Xiaomi store and lots of retail stores under them. I can also get it from local online shops.

how long did it say processing for with your order?
Dont forget officially this is not released in the UK only the 6/128 version. I seen some selling it on eBay. They claim to be UK stock but I wont hold my breath. I don't think you would get better performance with an 8gb version, and I think its not worth it unless you would need the 256 storage. I personally went for the 6\128 version purely because the price difference, and because the EU variant would have support in the UK. No sure about the global version support though. GL any way .
I got mine from wondamobile, can't remember how long it took but it was about a week.
It was a 8/256 Hong Kong global with UK style plug.
Given the choice I'd probably just go with the 128 option, copying large amounts of data over after a ROM flash on USB 2 connection speeds takes forever ?

Where to buy from?

Let's get a list of places where this will be selling including importing.
WondaMobile expecting to ship by Oct 15th. This is with 256gb rom £759 which is slightly cheaper than UK pricing with double storage. https://www.wondamobile.com/sony-xperia-5-ii-8gb-ram-256gb-sim-free-unlocked.html
Otto (and maybe others?) offers a promotion product (Sony »WF-1000XM3 True Noise Cancelling«) additional to the mobile: https://www.otto.de/p/sony-xperia-5...2-mp-kamera-1225041412#variationId=1225041413
It is already available here in Sweden since a few days ago for ca 865€ bundled with WH1000XM3 headphones.
I am waiting for the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro but this is tempting too. I could buy it, sell the headphones and get some of the cash back so phone will be closer to my budget but I am not sure if I wanna do that since the front camera is same as on Xperia 1 II and that one was so crappy according to user reviews so what if this one is crappy too. Also no 30w or faster charging like on Chinese brand phones.
Any other places selling the 256gb model?
Be good to know if there is any way to get hold of the elusive grey model here in the UK. Not interested in black or blue, but the overseas sites like Expansys only have black blue or pink. Grey seems to be available in Europe, but not UK - unless Vodafone get it as an exclusive colour which they normally do with Xperias.
Vodafone always last to the party adding Xperias to their site though which is annoying.

Yes, exactly. Poor front camera and also missing wireless charging / face unlock are the real issues that bugs me on such a nice phone for US$950. Still can't understand why Sony used such a bad Samsung (!) sensor on their top tier "Photo Pro" smartphone. That's ridiculous!

That grey model + the better WH1000 compared to the h.ear 3 headphones looks really enticing.

I don't think so unfortunately.
I think all Sony deals are country specific.
Belsimpel had a 300€ cashback offer on Xperia 1 II so could get the phone for ca 735€ after cashback but only if you have a NL address.
Same with this offer, you need Swedish address.
I preordered the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro for 650€. They are giving away Xiaomi Mi Essential Electric Scooter worth ca 300€ for free if you pre order before 21st October.
For me that's a better deal since I don't need headphones and I find the scooter more useful.

For any US buyers I highly suggest getting it from WondaMobile. I ordered mine last Wednesday 10/21/20 and selected free shipping. It was listed as 9-12 business days, but I just got it yesterday 10/26/20. Even shipping from Hong Kong it got here that fast. WondaMobile pays import taxes if you are outside of Europe, and you get more than one color, 5G support, 256gb. I ordered the blue model and it worked with my existing TMobile sim out of the box. It cost me 955 USD, 5 dollar premium to Sony's direct pricing the US, except you the more colors, 256gb, and you get it before December. Sadly no bonus goodies like some EU sellers, but it is easily the best way to get your hands on one in the US.
