[Update] Miui 10 Global Beta 8.10.25 - Xiaomi Mi 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

I don't know why I saw everywhere that, to update from 10.0.3.0 Global Stable to Beta 8.10.25, you could only do with unlocked BL (even using XiaoMiTool it says that).
This is because I can say that I was able to do the update, not via OTA (it fails with an error message explained below) or via EDL, but via other method with a locked BL, no root and no custom recovery. To clarify, I'm using a Global Version of the Mi 8, with the Chinese Version i'ts probably not possible but I'm not sure since I did not test it, but from what I read it's not safe.
So here's what I did:
I used Xiaomi ADB: ht tp://ww w.xiaomit ool.co m/adb (just aggregate to make a link, I can't post links yet), and just install and follow the steps on the site and you are good to go
In the process, the first time it logged an error on the console that already happened when I tried to update via OTA updater (something like "Your android version is different from the current one and bla bla bla...") but right in the next attempt was successfull (the attempts are done automatically). Also, nothing was erased during the process, all data was kept which is nice
Link for the ROM: htt p://bigo ta.d.miui.co m/8.10.25/miui_M I8Global_8.10.25_f598e a6e8b_9.0.zip (no spaces ofc)

although you have successfully do it., it was still a very risky move. If you brick the phone with bootloader locked, it will be very troublesome procedure afterwards. I do not encourage people to risk their phone. Just unlock your phone bootloader first. A month wait worth more then bricking your phone with locked bootloader>

I don't know why it's risky. As long as i have global version and flash an official mi ROM (with version equal or greater than what I have, even if it's beta version) I think I'm fine, why do you think it's risky?

If you bricked your phone with Locked BL , you may not be able to revive it thru flashing since it may not allow flashing other firmware or recovery like TWRP. Also, ARB may brick your phone if you flashed old version.

Tried. Didn't work for me

I flashed to a newer version ofc (even so because it's from Android 8.1 to 9) and you are always allowed to flash and official ROM, even if everything goes wrong, flash back to the Global stable. The tool also notifies and doesn't proceed to flash the ROM if all attempts are tried and unsuccessful.
With things like custom recoveries is where you brick your phones, cause people either don't download and official ROM or something goes wrong and with unlocked BL you're getting screwed...
Also to wait like 25 more days to unlock BL I was like damn it let's try this method and voilá

Exactly the same of you. From Global 10.0.3 to Developer 8.10.25. My Mi 8 is official global version with locked bootloader (for now, i have to wait the last 10 days)

I have 30 days to wait because I already unlocked one device on my account. And same as you I can't flash by this method.

8.11.1 beta full ROM update
This was officially suspended for our device, but I'll post it anyway for those that want it.

I don't know. Maybe on the front camera it's better stabilized for photos but other than that I don't notice anything special. I use the Google Camera anyways (link for that: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/MGC_6.1.009_MI8_V1a.apk), it's much better, even more for low-light situations (although the latest version still has some bugs and missing some features that I hope will be addressed in the future)

I don't know then. Maybe if you try one more time. I don't think it will brick anyways because if the process fails, then the command line of the tool will say it can't do it and will not flash, at least afaic.

I will wait for a new ota then will immediately flash the beta?

Don't flash sMIUI if you've unlocked bootloader by the unofficial way

Just a heads up. I've got my RMP since today. As a usual nexus user as I was, the first thing was to unlock the bootloader and flash whatever I can. My destination was -> unlocked bootloader -> smiui with root.
What happened it the following:
1) I unlocked my bootloader following guides (unofficial way)
2) Installed TWRP
3) Flashed SMIUI
And welcome brick. I was in emergency port (9003), and the only way to get the device running was the disasembe way. Well it worked. Now I'm on 7.2.3 with root, but guys - watch what you are flashing. This is my 3rd device (Desire HD, Nexus 4, and now RMP), and this was the first time that I had such a headaches.
SMIUi contains the locked bootloader file, so if by any chance you decide to unlock it by the unofficial way - don't flash it.
Read...read....read and one more time read there are many threads explaining how to do it without getting bricked .
Yup already lernt my lesson. Deleting emmc_appsboot.mbn from the archive before flashing is the right way.
Anyway, SMIUI is totally unusable on our devices. Flashed 6.4.21 and 6.4.14 - on both of them I get no sim/no wifi. Can't connect the device to the PC in file transfer mode also. Now I'm running xiaomi.eu 6.4.21 without issues.

Hello ktomov,
I made the same mistake. I couldn’t wait 10 days for the official unlock so I used the unofficially unlocked bootloader. Then I flashed TWRP and a Xiaomi EU ROM thinking that it’s probably gonna be OK since that’s not an official Xiaomi ROM. Nope! Bricked my device and had to use the testpoint method.
Now my question for you is what to do if want to flash a Xiaomi EU ROM again in case I don’t get the official unlock permission (is it even possible that I don’t get it?). Do I just need to replace the emmc_appsboot.mbn in the ROM’s ZIP file? I’m asking because there is a huge thread on this forum on how to maintain future OTA updates with unofficial unlock and I’d rather just stick with a TWRP-compatible ROM.
just refer to this thread if you flash anything on a unofficially unlocked bloader and ALWAYS DELETE emmc_appsboot.mbn
http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/how-to/creating-modified-boot-img-enabling-adb-t3359916
oh and as far as sMiui goes, dunno bout you, but it worked for me. it lags like hell, but it works. I had no issues with sim/wifi, and as far as MTP mode goes, disable adb in developer opts, that will trigger MTP mode. kinda annoying, but should work. same thing is happening on xiaomi eu and global roms too.

Thanks. That should make sure I don’t hardbrick my phone and retain access to EDL mode. But my question is whether replacing the emmc_appsboot.mbn is all I need to do when flashing a TWRP compatible ROM. No other scripts or changes are necessary?

Don't know what is going on with those roms, but for me sMiui 6.4.14 and 6.4.21 gives no-sim/no-wifi. Disabling dev still didn't got me to mtp. Haven't got such issues with xiaomi.eu roms though. 6.4.14 and 6.4.21 works like they should.

So if you have unlocked the bootloader the unofficial way is there any way to flash a locked bootloader later on if for example you wish to give in you phone for repair at the service center?

Adware ROM!

I have bought my kenzo from gearbest and now I can't even update using the updater app because when I try to install the global stable rom it says "Can't verify update"!!!
What shuold I do now?
I noticed that if I press volume down and powerbutton it goes into fastboot mode... but I don't know if my device is locked or not... please help me!
What rom is reported in settings - about phone - MIUI version.
See the reddit xiaomi wiki on how to flash official roms with locked bootloader using "Mi PC Suite" or "EDL / Download Mode".
It says: MIUI 7.4 stable 7.4.9.0 (LHOCNDD)
I had the same issue like you but I bought mine from aliexpress. Anyway what worked for me is applying for official bootloader unlocker then I put the phone in to recovery mode ( updater app 3 dots in top corner) .
On your pc you should install mi suit and It will recognize update.
It may delete your gapps it did it for me.
next step is unlocking bootloader through official app ( you may need to wait for approval sms)
Last step is installing the new software http://en.miui.com/a-234.html
I hope that helps
Your right it is a Vendor Rom.
http://en.miui.com/thread-310405-1-1.html
Thanks a lot!! :d
One of my phones came with the same 7.4.9.0 (LHOCNDD), but bootloader was unlocked. Check yours, perhaps you're lucky too
It's a vendor rom, use EDL mode to flash to miui rom. Follow the steps here. No need to unlock bootloader.
http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html
mine had the same LHOCNDD (not global), I bought mine from aliexpess, Xiaomi authorized store- phone build date is 2016.7 so I think they come from Xiaomi like this I had to wait 2 weeks for them to get one in stock,
I wish Xiaomi would stop with these strange firmwares, they block OTA updates, have unlocked bootloaders and cause other issues -
why they don't just use the global firmware on en.miui.com is a mystery, it would probably prevent 50% of returns from people bricking their devices.
I have the same 7.4.9.0 LHOCNDD vendor ROM. Bootloader is already unlocked. I want to flash TWRP to use with custom ROM because I don't want MIUI. Which guide should I follow in flashing TWRP?

[How to] Revert to Stock MIUI ROM?

I'm currently on CyanogenMod, If I flash the global stable version through Mi Flash, will I continue to get ota updates and it won't brick my device??
Device : Redmi Note 3 SD
Choose the flash all option, it will clear out all existing (user)data on your device. In my experience, this will not brick the phone, but I'm not too sure about the OTA updates.
Best wait for someone who actually knows their stuff.

of course you'll receive ota updates.
clean flash via miFlash will relock the bootloader again and twrp will be replaced by stock recovery.
so, ota will work fine

You did roll back from CM to Miui via miflash? If so, you did chose a certain option (e.g. "flash all"), to ensure to get a real factory reset? I am facing the same situation actually.
Additional information, I unlocked my bootloader unofficially, which may cause problems with OTA updates, as I read. If you got a link to a fitting "roll back guide" including the unoffical unlocked bootloader, would appreciate that or an update to your efforts.

And you have selected flash all option?
You have flashed in EDL mode or normal faatboot mode?

Edl and i choose flash all without data, most probably 2nd option. Came back to mm stable 8.1.1.0 from rr 5.8.0
Somebody got any idea, why I cannot flash MIUI properly? I booted the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro Special Edition in Fastboot, it is recognized by windows and the miflash tool properly (used the same configuration to go to CM), I downloaded
Redmi Note 3 Special Edition Latest Global Developer Version Fastboot File Download &
Redmi Note 3 Special Edition Latest Global Stable Version Fastboot File Download
and tried both folders with the "clear all" option. It says it went fine and the green success message appears, but the process just took 0.5 to 1 seconds and if I restart the phone, CM boots with initialising the apps. I used CM13 with unofficial unlocked bootloader. Would appreciate any tips.

1 Month later and I can't for the life of me unlock this bootloader [Kate]

I've tried the official unlock and it says can't verify. I tried every tutorial to get around that, activated SIM, going on i.mi.com, etc. I even contacted support US, Hong Kong support, and India support and they all gave me the same garbage auto replies.
I've tried unofficial unlock (2 different methods I believe) and none of them worked. I'm losing my mind.
Does anyone know if there's a different or updated method for Kate? Last time I tried to unlock was 2.5 weeks ago
Somewhere along the line of flashing fastboot roms my network started bugging out. It constantly connects and disconnects, and there's no LTE. I don't think I've ever loaded a bad rom so I don't know how this happened but I think I can troubleshoot that if I can at least get a custom recovery on this stupid thing.
Thanks in advance
I had problems at first too.i flashed global beta thru updater on phone.went to dev options then mi unlock status and linked phone to my account.unlocked first try after that.

I just gave up and used this method: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/how-to/method-to-flash-twrp-recovery-unlock-t3473294
You might need to flash an older version of MIUI. I think I used 6.11.3 - currently running Resurrection Remix 5.8.0 with Radon Kernel with locked Bootloader without a problem (well, other than the typical Nougat bugs)

I found a 6.11.3 fastboot rom but when going to flash it says it cant find flash_all_except_storage.bat. And I looked that up and apparently it means it's not a fastboot rom, which is false because the other roms ive flashed didnt hvae storage.bat either.
Mi PCsuite also isnt pulling up the phone in recovery mode so that's useless.
Im about to throw this phone in the garbage honestly. Ive tried just about everything.
I tried the method you mentioned about replacing the recovery image but it didnt work at all
EDIT: Found another rom that works with the updater, but it gave me an error saying its an older version of MIUI. seriously this is pretty ridiculous

I have unlocked bootloaders of my 2 phones (1 kenzo, 1 kate), in process of unlocking I was getting error while flashing it was giving me the error of "no system storage" (Not remembered whole message).
when that error occurs to me I got stucked on bootloop then I get jumped directly to "step 18" in both device's unlocking.
in the end I was done an additional step which was about to flash recovery through fastboot.
To flash TWRP recovery through fastboot
just execute the below command if you get your unlocked you device bootloader.
"fastboot flash recovery filename.img"
then just get into recovery mode and flash your desired custom rom.
I have follwed same procedure twice and it worked for me, hope so that it'll help you.
Best Of Luck.

Need help with updating to Android N - RN4X SD

Hey guys! I just recently got my Mido and It has been updated to the latest Global Stable rom. I tried to unlock my bootloader but I'm getting the message that binding time is too short and I need to wait up to 68 hours. That's not a problem. I can wait. But I just have a one quick question though. Can I go and flash the latest Global Developer rom thru fastboot mode with the MiFlash Tool which has been updated to the Android version N without unlocking my bootloader? Or can I flash the latest Global Developer rom thru the Updater app with my bootloader still lock? I hope someone can help me out. I can wait for 68 hours, but I just can't sit and do nothing while waiting. Thank you guys!

Nope. To go to developer roms you need an unlocked BL.
Don't listen to them.
If you are on global stable you can flash global developer with a locked bootloader.
You should flash 7.2.16 first because you won't be able to flash never ones first. Download the recovery version and flash it through the updater app from within miui.
Be careful tho because this WILL wipe your internal storage.
After you installed 7.2.16 use the updater app to download the newest 7.7.6 rom and you are all set.

Hey mate! I really appreciate your info.. I tried to do this.. I was almost there, just a click away of being able to switch to global developer rom. But I accidentally clicked on Cancel instead of the Erase and Proceed to update button on the updater app. So I tried it again, but it doesn't give me that option anymore to flash it, the next thing I know it keeps saying I cannot upgrade from an unofficial rom package. I am so stupid. I missed my only chance of beinh able to switch to developer rom. I even tried doing a factory reset but still it's telling me the same error. Is there anyway I can get that option again? Coz at the first attemp, it even prompts me of decryption.. but now no more. Just can't update with 7.2.16 because it is from an unofficial rom package.

I never imagine it's gonna be this hard. I had 4 xiaomi devices already before this. I can't believe Xiaomi is gonna make this very very hard as time goes by.
Clean cache of the updater app, close it and thentry again to flash the rom.
This is the one because it's based on Android 6. That's why you can flash it and then update to 7 via the updater app on the phone itself.
