Hi all,
first post, this issue starts to drive me mad :crying:
My device is a Lenovo C2 (K10a40), not rooted (If BTW anyone knows how to root this device: You're welcome )
I have Bluetooth connections to many devices. My car and my wife's car (Phone Audio and Media Audio) , Raspberry pi (Media Audio, to stream from device to rasppi), a Philips TV with a "built in" Bluetooth speaker, to stream from device to TV, and my Linux PC (Phone Audio and Media Audio), to dial etc. from my pc when sitting at my desk.
ALL of these connections are working fine, except one, to one car:
- When paired for the first time, all worked fine for a long while, days/weeks/months
- No idea why, once and suddenly when re-connecting the device and the car, after some seconds, AOSP standard media app "Music" starts, and again after some seconds, a popup says "Bluetooth Share has been terminated" (or very similar, translated from German msg).
- Car says on radio screen "A2DP has been terminated"
- Both car and device tries infinite to reconnect, same issue
Tried the usual stuff:
- Clearing cache: no change
- Resetting network (and Bluetooth) settings: no change (after painfully adding all WLAN and Bluetooth connections again :crying
- Rebooting both car's radio and android device. no change
I didn't try and really, really, really don't want to try a factory reset, would take me ages to reinstall and reconfigure everything, as I'm not sure if simply restoring a backup after resetting the device will re-introduce the error anyway. I don't want to test it :silly:
What sometimes, whyever only sometimes helps (for a short while, sometimes days) is to drop phone from car's paired devices and vice versa, and re-pair after that.
My question is, could be a deep technical answer if necessary: What on earth triggers the start of the "Music" app, after (re-)connecting both device and car? The Bluetooth crash *** ONLY *** happens, if "Music" app starts. Before first crash "Music" app has NEVER been started. Now, when successfully paired after dropping connections as described, "Music" app does also not start at first. But as soon as "Music" app was used to stream media to car, it's going to start automatically after reconnect. Although if for instance media playback has been terminated before disconnecting, e.g. for listening to radio. For a while then reconnect with automatic start of "Music" app works, and after a while the crashes appear again.
On the other hand, if "Music" app is started automatically after a re-pairing, after dropping connections before, at the first Bluetooth connect, the crash is ALWAYS a result.
I also found out, that if I'm DISABLE A2DP "Media Audio" profile in the connection settings of the android device, connection is stable and "Phone Audio", including adressbooks sychning etc. works fine and stable. But unfortunately not "enough", I need A2DP for navigation audio.
Any hints how to get rid of these "Music" autostarts would be great!

I can't see any option anywhere in my SGS2 to set a BT paired device as "authorized". Every time I enter in my car I've to manually select the BT device and start manually the connection.
I searched in the forum but didn't find answers.
I also tried to look at the filesystem and I found auto_pairing.conf file in which there are a lot of BT manufacturer brands listed in sections like "black list", "white list", .... Is it possible I need to manually modify this file to include my BT manufacturer in the white list section? It sounds really strange!
Is there any other way?
I'd love to know that as well.

Update
I manually modified auto_pairing.conf file adding my car BT manufacturer without any success (I added it in white list with the name already mentioned in the file, so I think that's not a problem of brand name).
My SGS2 continue to ask me to manually select the device to connect to, even if only one BT device is available (car handsfree).
I have the same problem, which i didn't have with my Nexus One running Cynogenmod ROM. I keep my Bluetooth on all the time or most of the time and i would like (like i had in nexus one) when i turn on my car (with Sony MEX-BT3700U car stereo with Bluetooth) that the phone auto-connects with the stereo in a minute or less (or with my plantronics headset when i turn it on), but no, every time i have to go into bluetooth settings and connect on the paired device and then it's connected.
I heard about few application that could help but it would be nice to have it as native function on the phone. I haven't tried these apps yet but if anyone want's to try they can be downloaded from the market, firs is free, the second is not.

I don't have this problem at all, on any ROM I've tried stock or not. Is your stereo also set up to auto-connect? And is it your phone or your stereo that's refusing the auto connection?

Stereo doesn't have any options, same as Plantronics headset (only ON or OFF), that means that with my old nexus one running CM (or Nokia n95 8GB) when the bluetooth is switched ON and i come near stereo or headset they connect automatically in about 30 seconds max, with my SGS 2 that doesn't happen, i tried everything but it wont auto-connect until i initiate the connection from phone manually.
I have to resolve this because it's killing me !

I wonder if that's the issue; IIRC it's my stereo that I've told to connect automatically rather than my phone. I'll verify on my commute home today.
Mine auto connects to my JVC car head unit, but doesn't to my Belkin Tunestage. No idea why. As it happens, this suits me but it'd be nice to be able to control it.
And the commute begins. The auto connection is an option on my JVC deck, no such option on the phone.

The stereo is recognized same as Plantronics and that is as a head set, but it doesn't want to automatically connect to either of them, every time i have to initiate the connection. There is one way to connect it (partially automatically ) but that's not the solution - i have to turn on the bluetooth on my phone before starting my car, then when phone is in searching mode if the car is started (stereo turned on) then it will connect automatically, if the search mode (that is active for a short time after turning the bluetooth) ended before i start the car (for instance if i keep my bluetooth on all the time on my phone) then it wont connect automatically.
Am i any clearer about my problem ?
I hear what you're saying but it appears that auto connection is initiated by my stereo. If I turn auto connect off on my stereo there is no connection until I tell my phone to connect. I don't see anything on the gsii settings to have the phone auto initiate the connection. I have a recent JVC deck fwiw.

I will check one more time is there any bluetooth settings on my car stereo, but i'm 90% sure that it doesn't have, because this is the first phone that doesn't connect automatically.
I have had similar issues with mine, it will pair with my Kenwood DNX520VBT but wont auto connect.
however i now have a workaround
Turn bluetooth on your GS2 first, then turn on you Radio. once my Radio boots up it initiates the connection and auto connect works.
if i turn on the bluetooth on my GS2 after my radio it never works.
ive got a sony bt3700 stereo, it connected perfectly with my samsung wave, i just upgraded to a galaxy s and i have to do it manually every time so its not the stereo.
Same thing happened to me, old nexus one with CM7 is connecting ok but i have to connect SGS2 manually or make sure that my bluetooth is ON on my phone before i start the car.
I may have the answer......
Hi,
I have a sort of work around.
My Pioneer head unit refuses to auto connect to my SGS2 and I have to do it manually (I connect from the radio in 4 clicks but thats not the point). This was driving me nuts as previous handsets I owned connected within 5 seconds of being in the car.
I then discovered ROMS and went for the Criskelo ROM and it put me on Android Version 2.3.6 (Not sure if that made a difference or its actually the ROM).
Now with that sorted I found that I have an extra function in my bluetooth settings. When I make the device visible I can then choose the visible time-out length. If I set this to NEVER then I have no problems connecting to the headunit everytime I get in my car.
The only problem I have with this is that I pop my phone into Airplane Mode each night and because that disables the bluetooth it loses the time-out setting so I have to put the time-out back to never each morning.
With setting the time-out to never I'm not sure what battery drain is like because I'm constantly on my phone and my battery depletes rapidly anyway but it seems like a fix for now.
I hope this makes sense and helps people out until a proper fix becomes available.
Cheers,
DJ Sploits
Hi All,
Sorry for bumping an old-ish thread, but it seemed the most appropriate thread, and better than creating a new one of the same topic!
This is what I believe to be true:
*IF* Bluetooth is enabled on the GS2 (and the phone has previously been paired with the car headunit) then when the car is turned on, it will auto-connect to the GS2
*IF* Bluetooth is NOT enabled on the GS2 (and the phone has previously been paired with the car headunit) then when the car is turned on, it will NOT connect to the GS2 (understandably!).
*IF* the phone has previously been paired with the car headunit, and the bluetooth on the GS2 is enabled *AFTER* the car has been started, it does NOT Auto-Connect.
From this, I assume that when the car is powered on, it searches for previously paired handsets in order of most recently connected first. If it finds one, then it WILL connect.
Now:
If I leave Bluetooth enabled on my phone, the battery is significantly depleted my mid-afternoon.
I've started using an app which uses the "rough location" (not GPS) to monitor where the phone is located. If it deemed to have moved in X period of time, then it enables bluetooth.
This is great, and works a charm ... BUT it does mean that bluetooth stack on the GS2 is enabled AFTER the car has been moving for a period of time, and thus does NOT auto-connect.
What I've been searching for is:
"When BT stack is enabled on GS2, can it look for previously paired devices and initiate the connection itself?" (Rather than the car connecting to it?) Is there a script or app to do this?
Hi WTFH,
I think it might be more headunit specific. I always have my bluetooth on but it wont connect automatically to my headunit unless I have it set to constantly discoverable (on the handset).
I also use a power saving program called Green Power Premium which will cut bluetooth/data/wifi after a certain amount of time when the phone is in a sleep state. Its great fro saving power as my phone isnt constantly looking for a wifi signal (I don';t use it to control my bluetooth though as I need it on for my car).
Hey DJ_sploits,
Thanks for that ... Yes, I understand that some headsets do not auto-connect to the GS2 if the phone is NOT visible.
But what does seem to be constant is that the GS2 will not auto-connect to any of the headsets if the bluetooth stack on the GS2 is enabled AFTER the headset has come online and available.
One workaround I'm thinking of is:
Enabling a profile which says "When connected to a power source (I'll have to use the power adaptor) then enable bluetooth". Connecting my phone to the power first before starting the car should enable the BT stack before the headset tries to connect.
In fact I could extend this to say "Only enable bluetooth when using power adaptor, and not connected to wifi".
It's still a pain to do this though, as I tend to just jump into the car and don't want to faff about with connecting this and that.
The only other work around I use is to set the visiblity to constant (depending on what android software version you are on). My headunit always picks the phone up if I have it setup like this. the only thing with that is it will eat the battery even more (which is annoying considering there are other phones out there that constantly have their bluetooth on and you never see the battery getting hammered).
The only flaw I can see in your method is the fact you need a power source to knock on the bluetooth. Great for powersaving but it would then mean you would have to remember to connect it to a car charger everytime you got in the car (not too bad if you have it constantly plugged in to the cigarette lighter) and as you set this can be a bit of a faff.
The only way I can see in sorting this is using a power saving app but having your visibilty constantly on for the bluetooth and then we just hope it doesnt eat the battery too much (not to bad for me as I have a charger at work but could be a pain for others). The only problem with this (apart from the battery issue) is that if you knock the bluetooth off or knock the phone to airplane mode (as I do at nights) then when you knock the bluetooth back on it forgets that you want it to be constantly visible so you have to go through the settings and check the box
Hi All,
I have an NFC enabled Samsung Galaxy Nexus and have placed NFC tags in specific places (car, living room, home theater, bedroom, etc.) so that I when I set my phone on the NFC tag I can automatically play music over Bluetooth in that location.
I am trying to completely automate connecting to a *specific* Bluetooth device. (I am not looking to simply toggle Bluetooth on or off, or select the desired Bluetooth device from a menu.) I am currently using "NFC Task Launcher" to accomplish the majority of this, but as far as Bluetooth is concerned, the most I've been able to automate so far is to simply Bluetooth on or off. (I also tried "Tasker" but the functionality I am looking for is missing from this app as well.) I have not found a way to read an NFC tag and automatically connect to a specific Bluetooth device based on which tag is read, nor have I even found a "one click" app / widget that connects to a specific Bluetooth device. (If such a "one click" app / widget exists, I could automate the launching of that app to make the connection.).
(Also having the Bluetooth device in each location initiate the connection isn't a viable solution, I need for the phone to iniatiate the connection.)
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Ran across this looking for the same answer. Surprised no one has responded in over a month here.
Did you have any luck finding a workaround for specific BT device connections?
Hi,
I am the developer of MacroDroid an automation application for Android (that supports NFC tags).
This is a feature one of my users has just requested, so I'm just starting to look into the feasibility of adding it. (I came across this post during my initial research).
I will report back here on what I find and if all goes to plan I'll get the feature added to MacroDroid ASAP.
In the meantime, I'd appreciate ALL feedback (positive and negative) with regards to MacroDroid as I hope to make it as powerful and flexible as possible. It's available on Google Play here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.arlosoft.macrodroid&hl=en
Cheers,
Jamie
Just a quick follow up to my last post.
I believe it is possible to implement functionality to connect to a specific device. I currently don't have an appropriate device to test this, but I have one on order. As soon as I receive it, I'll have a go at adding this to MacroDroid.
In the meantime the following app on the market:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=a2dp.Vol&hl=en
Has the capability to connect to a second Bluetooth device when a Bluetooth connection is established. This may or may not help depending on what you are doing.
Any update on this? I'm also in the same boat. My car doesn't automatically connect anymore, never really did, I think its Bluetooth > 3.x on phone( 4.0 right now, but same on older past devices on S3 ) and the stereo bluetooth is older version( can't remember exactly. )
Anyways, thanks dev for posting about the other app, plan on trying it out tomorrow. In the meantime have you made any progress on your app for this functionality? I'd rather keep everything( all settings ) in one app if I can. Don't think Tasker allows this still, not sure on locale but I doubt it also.
Eagerly awaiting an update
A few more options
Did a little more searching just in case anything new has been released recently - came up with a few new options.. None seem to suit my need (trigger connection within Tasker via a plugin or directly opening an app), but posting here since they may help others.. I haven't tried these - just going on app descriptions.
So, in addition to A2DP Volume as suggested by UndeadCretin, which would be the best option if you want the connection to a A2DP device when another BT device connects, there's also Car Music Connector (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cleansoft.carmusic) which would seem to fit the bill for most people perfectly. Free, and "Connects you device to Bluetooth stereo in one widget click or NFC tap." Downside would seem to be that it would need to be set as default NFC app for one tap NFC triggering.
If just a widget is needed, Bluetooth Autoconnect (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.btautoconnect), which is a paid app - although Car Music Connector also has a widget so is probably a better (and free!) choice.
Edit: Scratch that.. Car Music Connector doesn't prompt for a device to connect to.. I only have 1 A2DP device paired, and it wont connect to it (just times out) - maybe someone else will have better luck.
Bluetooth Autoconnect seems like it should work, however it enables/disables bluetooth at the same time - so if you already have bluetooth turned on, it turns it off. <sigh>
I'm unable to get it to connect to the either of 2 A2DP devices though - emailed the Dev hoping that it's just something funky with my device (Galaxy S3) that can be worked around.
Interested in this as well.
Firstly sorry for the long delay in replying!
I have now added the ability in MacroDroid to connect to a specific Bluetooth audio device. I have it working on my 2.3 and 4.0.4 and 4.1 devices but I only have a single audio device to test against. Some users have reported that it's not working for them, so if anyone does try this I would appreciate any feedback if it works or doesn't. If it's not working for you could you please tell me the device, OS version and device you are trying to connect to. Feedback here is fine, or mail me at: [email protected]
Best Regards,
Jamie

Awesome to hear.. I'll give it a test run when I get a chance and get back to you with results.. Just a query - what's the system resource usage of MacroDroid? I currently use Tasker, and am more than happy to buy and use MacroDroid for this one single function if it works, but don't really want them both running in the background at the same time if they're using up resources.. Can MacroDroid be setup to only run when called (i.e. having a shortcut trigger it, or even better via a Locale plugin?) I know that this is probably wanting a little too much
For others, Bluetooth Auto Connect (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.myklos.btautoconnect) has had a recent update of "New: Tasker/Local plugin - new Profile action added - Connect / Disconnect actions supported" which sounds promising.
I never got the app to work previously (it just never connected), but others may have better luck. I haven't tried it since the update.

The resource usage of MacroDroid should be very low as it is effectively dormant in most cases. MacroDroid does run as a foreground service so it displays a persistent icon in the notification bar. If this annoys you there is an option in settings to turn off the foreground service. In most cases it will still work but YMMV. Anyway you can get the basic functionality for free, so you can give it a try and see how it works for you.

Jamie
I have just submitted an updated (V1.3.8) that will hopefully solve the issue some users were seeing with the Bluetooth audio connection. I appreciate any feedback if it works (or not) for you....
Car Music Connector
Hello,
In addition to A2DP profile Car Music Connector waits for Headset profile to be connected by default. This is more reliable for most car bluetooth enabled stereos. If you are using it with A2DP only device you need to disable "Wait for Headset Bluetooth connection" in settings.
Hope that helps.

An amazing One click - Connect 2 Specific Bluetooth device for A2DP and Phone app:
Bluetooth Pair
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gnssoftworks.bluetoothpair
found it very useful for swapping bluetooth headphones between devices WITHOUT turning off Bluetooth entirely or going into the settings menu.
Example Use Case:
I have one Stereo Bluetooth headset with mic (two profiles - phone and A2DP audio)
I have one Android Phone and one Android Tablet.
Phone Profile is always connected to the Android Phone, but the A2DP audio changes depending on which device you want to listen to music from.
Normally, if you want to listen to audio from the Tablet when your headset's A2DP profile is connected to the phone, you'd have to first go to the settings menu of the phone, and disconnect the A2DP, leaving Phone Profile connected. Then go to the settings menu on your tablet and connect the A2DP only.
Then you'd have to do the opposite if you want to listen to audio from the Phone again.
Takes a long time.
With Bluetooth Pair, you can specifically connect or disconnect to a specific device and specific profile (phone / a2dp) by widgets.
So you won't have to turn off the bluetooth completely on one device just to allow your headset to connect another device. Nor do you need to go into settings anymore.
1.) Just tap on the A2DP device specific widget on the phone to disconnect, the A2DP Profile from the phone
2.) go to the Tablet, and tap on the A2DP device specific widget to connect the A2DP profile of the headset to the Tablet
Two taps!

Awesome! Gonna download it now and try it in the morning... but ya still get the thanks regardless of how it works for breathing life into this thread
Sorry if this is not the right category, I have been looking to find one better suited to post this subject but couldn't find one.
As stated above, I'm having issues with controlling music from my Bluetooth headset. I've already done some troubleshooting but am currently at a loss and hope to find some help here.
Let me first describe the problem first:
When I connect my Bluetooth headset (Philips SHB7150) to my Xperia Z3 tablet compact I can not control my music. If I start playing music from the app, it plays fine through the headset but I don't have control. This used to work before, unfortunately I can't pinpoint when the issue started but it's possible it happened after upgrading from Lollipop 5.0.2 to 5.1.1.
Now on to my troubleshooting results:
- When I turn off the BT headset and turn it back on, it connects to the tablet without hassle but I have no music controls.
- When I turn off the tablet and turn it back on, it connects to the BT headset without hassle but I have no music controls.
- When I pair the headset again using NFC, it connects to the tablet and I have music control :good:
- When I turn off BT on the tablet and turn it back on it connects to the BT headset and I have music control :good:
- When I connect the BT headset to the tablet and go into BT settings, open the settings for the BT headset + uncheck 'media' + confirm + check 'media' + confirm and I have music control :good:
- When the tablet connects to BT in my car, it starts playing after the play command from the receiver. :good:
- In these last 4 cases, the solution is only good until next time the BT headset is turned off and connects again. Then there is no music control until I repeat one of those 4 steps.
Things I have tried:
- Use another application to play my music (stock Xperia music app, Google music, Rocket Player, Shuttle+, ... are all experiencing the same issue. So I don't think it is due to the music playing software
- Tried an application (headset button controller) to try and change the button behaviour but it does not receive the command from the headset (no beep)
- Connect my BT headset to another device (Sony Xperia S, MacBook Air) and it works fine (both after pairing and after turning BT headset off and on again)
- Factory reset my tablet using Sony Bridge for Mac -included wipe of internal data-, still the same issue.
- I tried to find some ADB command to reset everything BT, but all I could accomplish was using the command to start BT (due to lack of knowledge on ADB commands)
- I deleted all app data and cache for 'Bluetooth sharing' in application manager + restarted and connected again (no success)
- I re-paired the headset once more but this time without adding it as a smart-lock unlocking device but had no luck controlling music when I connected it again
To conclude:
The headset is working fine with other devices, I can't pinpoint if this is a software/hardware issue because it appears to be only for this BT headset/laptop combination and with all music software AND continues after factory reset...
Other BT devices (=car stereo, I don't have another BT headset to test with) are working fine to control music on my tablet
Restarting BT on the tablet or re-autoring the use of media in BT settings on the tablet permanently resolves the issue until the next time the headset is connected.
So it looks like either something hijacks my device as soon as it connects to the tablet OR the media-authorization gets revoked in the BT settings for that device. Perhaps I'm saying stupid things, but I'm really hoping that you, the more knowledgeable Android developer/enthousiast/... would be able to make more sense and to give me a hand in order to fix this issue.
I currently am dependent on my tablet for playing music during my daily train commutes since my beloved Xperia Z1 Compact is in for warranty repairs
ANY help would be appreciated !
i have problem with bluetooth when display is off
on my mate 20 pro i have connect ford sync and galaxy watch and everything works perfekt
but if display is off a i get out of range of bluetooth for 10-15 sec after i come back to phone they want sync until i power on display of phone and then after few second
everything is fine
also with my car system if i live car with radio on and move away out of range connection between car and phone can't not sync after i get back in car
i must turn off radio in car and turn it on after everthing work fine
please help
how can i put my mate 20 pro to sync all pair device when display is off
I'm not having that problem with my Bluetooth car stereo (which is a Sony) but it does take about 1 minute to sync every time. I usually play a song or start maps navigation and after about a minute sound comes through my car speakers instead of the phone speakers.
Are you giving your phone time to sync?
You might also want to check if there are firmware updates for your car system. For my car stereo firmware updates need to be downloaded with a computer and installed via USB drive--there are no automatic OTA updates.
Other Bluetooth devices do sync immediately. The car stereo is the only device that requires a little time to sync but it was the same with my P20 Pro and Mix 2S so I don't think it's anything specific to this phone.
If you delve into the settings for your car Bluetooth you might also find a Bluetooth autosync setting that can be switched on and off.
Bluetooth must always be visible & try "Bluetooth Auto Connect" app.. works for me!
I made a bixby routine as follows: when my phone connects to my car bluetooth (VW Passat), it should do several things. But the problem is that the routine almost never starts working by itself? It only works after I manually turn off bluetooth and turn it back on after im already connected to my car. Anyone else have this problem? With tasker there's no such problem when connecting to my car bluetooth, but i'd like to use bixby routines instead of tasker...
Even though I have another routine which does several things after connecting to my BudsLive, and that one always works by itself without problems.
When you get in the car do you activate "media" on car, or just get in and let the phone connect to car? I have noticed on a lot of devices if you don't "fully" connect to media on car, such as playing streaming music many phones don't see the connection unless Media connected (you can pause music). I'll get phone calls fine, but no messages or Maps audio at all unless Media connected. As I said, same with all my older phones, started I think around Android 9. Think part is car manufacturers don't want to support phone options anymore, they want you to use Android Auto or Car Play and leave the software to Google and Apple.

The thing is, my car bluetooth doesnt want to activate "media" lol. It only connects for phone calls. When i try to activate media the button always returns back to off. Seems to be a samsung/volkswagen problem since i see alot of posts with the same problem when googling
I had Bixby Routines set up on my S21 to do some things automatically when connected with a car Bluetooth kit. Everything was working fine until the last update of One UI 4.0. After the update, nothing happens when I connect to the Bluetooth kit in the car. I deleted the Bixby routine, reset the app data, deleted the Bluetooth partnership, and reconnected to the car's Bluetooth kit - nothing helped.
When I create Bixby routines using regular Bluetooth headphones, everything works fine. The problem only occurs with the car's Bluetooth kit. While searching the Internet, I found out that there was a similar problem with Bixby procedures before. Back then, Bixby routines would not work if the bluetooth device did not have an audio profile. My BT car kit does not have such a profile, only a hands-free profile is available. Has the old malfunction returned?
