Can't flash latest stable 10.0.4.0 - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

I have unlocked bootloader with TWRP 3.2.3 (the working decryption one). I was on latest global beta 8.10.30 before flashing the global stable release. but now on boot up it asks for password. What should i do?

Format your data using twrp then flash same happened with me , xiomi doesn't allow to rollback to previous version

Latest stable 10.0.4.0 based on Oreo.
Beta 8.10.30 based on Pie.
IMHO Pocophone has no rollback protection.

Try restoring via MI flash tool. It did worked for me but as u know it will lock the bootloader and erase everything to factory! But eventually you will end up the stable version!

So no other way except formatting internal? Also miflash has option of keep data, will it keep my bootloader unlocked? And the latest stable Oreo fastboot ROM hasn't come out yet right?

You can give it a try for keeping the internal data but i hardly think that will work.
Yeah the fastboot for MIUI 10 stable is not out yet but yeah for MIUI 9 is there! Here is the link:

You are jumping from beta to stable. Anytime you flash from beta to stable or vice versa, you'll need to format internal storage. That's how MIUI stupid policy works.
Even if you flash the fastboot rom via Miflash using option to keep data, it'll still ask for the password when you boot and eventually you'll have to format internal storage. It'll be a long process. Instead, use twrp now and format internal storage. Sorry for your loss.
Bootloader will remain unlocked when you use Mi flash. The latest stable is already out, wait for the fastboot links as they will be posted shortly which is 10.0.4.0 based on Oreo. The beta version is now based on Pie.

beta users here?
is the skip lockscreen option back?

try in Twrp > Wipe > factory reset when you move between rom. No guarantee though it will help not to format data (Wipe > Format data) for new rom to work.

Flashing MIUI 8 Global Beta MM from LL

Hi all. My RN3 is currently on global stable MIUI 8.0.6.0 which os LL based. I want to switch over to Global beta which is MM.
I dont want to use MiFlash as I bricked my device twice earlier flashing the MM file.
Can I flash the MM recovery zip through TWRP? Should I use Alka Twrp to flash and do I need to do anything else after that? Can anyone please help me with exact steps to get MM global beta through TWRP?
Go to xiaomi.eu and get a zip that Global MM modified (only remove bloatware I think) and flash it via TWRP.
MiFlash actually rescue me from a soft-brick one week ago. MiFlash shouldn't brick your device if you doing it right.
MiFlash works perfectly with Global Stable, I don't know about Global Dev, but I have a solution if you want a official way to go Global Dev.
I will assume you are not flash any custom recovery yet, and still at stock recovery. And no bootloader unlock needed.
Flash Global Stable via MiFlash and update Global Dev via stock recovery with recovery zip.
I do it once when I go from MIUI 7 Stable to MIUI 8 Beta few months ago, and it works very well.
dev roms should b flashed with custom recovery bro..
I have nothing against MiFlash but my PC USB ports seems to be having a problem when I flash using MiFlash and it stops midway with some read error..I had that problem twice..
So I am always using Alka TWRP for flashing CM 14.1 builds from LL directly. Wanted to check if I can do that with MIUI 8 Global Dev too using their recovery zip file. Heard it causes bootloops. Please detail the steps of flashing through TWRP. Thats the safest for me

When you go from miui lp to miui mm , your bootloader will be relocked and you have to unlock it again and flash twrp.
Actually, TWRP remains, you only need to unlock it with MiUnlock in fastboot mode. And then you can go to twrp or system. Because BL is locked it causes bootloop

I tried to unlock my bootloader via
Miunlock tool.. I got my device permission through sms on 19november
from unlock mi team,
After that I m trying to unlock my device, But it's stuck at 50% (Another
account ), It's already 8days over, Still I m not able to unlock my
bootloader officially,
So if I unlocked my bootloader by fastboot miflash unofficially method,
- My Mi protection and
- My device ll void warranty??
What would be the cons if I unlocked unofficially..
You need to boot in EDL mode and then flash with MiFlash china/global dev fastboot ROM. For that you dont need to unlock BL. Then you will be able to unlock it on dev ROM.
I had exact same problem

I dont want to install custom rom now urgently later i will see,
So now i want to Backup my MIUI 8.0.6.0 Stable rom for future.. i m satisified with my stable rom..
Now if i am going to install official twrp recovery, any problem to get future OTA updates, Can i upgraded to future MIUI stable roms after installed twrp??
No you cant upgrade OTA if you have official TWRP.
It only works with ZCX TWRP, I suggest flash zcx, backup all partitions to microSD and then happy flashing.

i want to use cm roms and miui roms without going back to pc to flash stock miui again then unlock bootloader again blalalala
how to use miui UN official ROMS rom twrp directly withou going back to pc to flash stock miui ?

how can we swich from cm13 or cm14 roms directly from twrp to any MIUI rom (not stock) ( like i was doing in my old lenovo or LG ) all from TWRP NOOOOO PCCCC?????
thanks in advance
You can flash latest miui EU weekly to go back to miui (it doesnt lock the BL), you can flash almost anything (Lineage OS, RR,...) and flash eu weekly to go back to miui. BL will get locked upgrading/downgrading android LP to MM or MM to LP will lock BL and some roms also lock BL (like multirom stable 8.1.0.0, some custom roms, firmwares)
I always ended with brick if flashed official miui tbrough twrp and have tried cofface twrp,zcx,..

OK ... what you say is i can use twrp to flash CM 13 OR CM 14 Or AOSP ROMS or MIUI EU ROMS all from twrp any time and every thing will be OK as long as i will not flash OFFICIAL MIUI
and here i will not need any PC even when i am on CM 14 OR CM 13 then flashing any MIUI EU from TWRP ZCX
AND what about if i restored my STOCK OFFICIAL TWRP BACKUP ??? will it be OK ??
Thanks in advance
Yeah you can flash CM13,CM14,Lineage OS...
But some custom roms also locks BL(it would say so usually)
Also multirom 8.1.0.0 locked BL and official ROMs...
I do that: Use ZCX twrp, clean flash always (have all partitions backed on sd and all files for flashing on sd)
Wipe all except sd, flash CM13/14 or any other rom that doesnt relocks BL. Then if I want to go back to MiUi, just wipe all again and flash EU ROM (it does not lock).
So that way you can switch ROMs without PC...
If it flashes and turn off after flashing it means BL got locked, you must go in fastboot and unlock it with MiUnlock.
I think restoring official will also relock BL...
Just be sure to have backup of all 44partitions (EFS,Modem,radio..) in case you lose radios or imei...

How to do that i did full backup from zcx from my first stock miui once i flashed it ... is this what you mean or zcx can't make this special backup?
and can i make this backup from any rom that is working with me or i should return to stock again ?
AND If it flashes and turn off after flashing it means BL got locked, you must go in fastboot and unlock it with MiUnlock.
can i do this once i put the phone in fastboot and use miunlock and open twrp then flash another rom - or i have to first go back to stock miui then RE unlock bbotloader then flash new recovery ...... bla bla bla
Yeah I use zcx to backup all partitions also Alka can do this too. So if you did full backup with Zcx you are good to go
If it blinks and turns off, BL got locked. You must only go in fastboot, connect with PC, log in to MiUnlock, click unlock and reboot. No need to flash stock miui with MiFlash...
When i try to restore the backup, on rebooting, it shows wrong password. Same problem with both CM and MIUI roms.
Try without restoring data
Error "Couldn't check device security info miui.eu ..... how can i get over that
and i can't enter twrp again
You must be connected to internet while loging in on initial boot up...sometimes server is offline, try multiple times, reboot... Or try flashing miui eu weekly 6.11.3 first
How are you booting to twrp?
You must turn off device
,hold power and volume up, when mi logo appears, release power and keep holding volume up until you see twrp.

i think my bootloader is locked and i did restor flash from the beginning edl mode and i am booting now from stock again ... nice to do that and thank you for your concern
i will unlock again and flash twrp again
the question is why is that happened i was in rr 6 then i wipped and flash miui.eu ( i flashed the same version before and it worked fine )
any way thanks a lot you are my teacher here >>>>
edit its OK now i am on stock MIUI 8 .
So what now
What should I do to flash cm 13 and cm 14 Roms and flash miui.eu Roms without mistakes I will go and try again
my problem was i forgot to reset factory settings after each change from cm to miui
but i think there is another solution instead of wipping all internal data every time i change cm to miui and miui to cm romsss

best non-root backup before unlocking bootloader?

Hi,
I can finally unlock the bootloader - which AFAIK wipes user data. Now, since I've used the phone heavily over the waiting period, there's a lot to backup and reintegrate later on.
What's the quickest way to do so?
MTP-copy all of Internal Storage to PC -> unlock -> copy back?
(I am experienced with unlocking, rooting, flashing Roms and recoveries, but haven't had a non-rooted phone for about 8 years, so I am a bit out of the loop on non-root backup procedures)
TIA!
Using adb pull, you could probably get your internal storage.
Iirc the canonical dirs are:
/storage/emulated/0
/storage/emulated/legacyHelium should be sufficient for apps.
For me unlocking didn't wipe data.
Only wipe was when I installed developer rom to be able to unlock.
So the process should be unlock, flash twrp and then flash magisk to maintain twrp and avoid the bootloop. Then you can backup with root and clean flash if you want.
Twrp can't decrypt data but it's not needed to flash magisk. Anyway you can flash orangefox (latest version, beta 6) from twrp and it can decrypt data to access it from recovery.

Any advantage of using adb vs. just mounting the device via mtp? Last I've used adb for file transfer it was slower than even mtp...

Thanks. This is gonna sound very noob, but since I'm new to MIUI - is data already encrypted in stock MIUI? Otherwise I'll need orangefox only for switching between future custom ROMs, right?

I mean to unlock because I can't bind my mi account in stable and had to install developer rom to bind account.
Yes data is already encrypted on stock rom. If you need to access data partition in recovery you need orangefox. But it's not needed to flash magisk.
To use custom roms you don't need orangefox because you can format data from twrp and then flash the rom. I started using orangefox since I tried miui 10 oreo beta because I was unable to avoid encryption on that rom.

I plan on just unlocking bootloader, enabling cam2 and installing a current gcam today - I'll wait with flashing until miui10 stable is released in the next week or so, so I can do a "fair" comparison between Lineage and Miui (and possibly some others)

A quick heads-up, just in case anyone stumbles upon this thread:
As of MIUI 9.5.17 global stable, using official MIUI unlock 3.3.525.23, unlocking the bootloader DOES WIPE user data & factory-resets the phone (to be more precise - it wipes the complete internal storage).
SD is, as expected, left alone.

Yes, and I thank you for it.
I was not accusing you of anything - things may well have changed with different versions of MIUI or different versions of the unlock tool, or between chinese/global versions. Just a warning for others that, at least with the versions I posted, having a backup is reaaaaally nice :good:

You guys will need an authorized beta account unless you want to flash the ROM via TWRP Recovery
So, I updated without an authorized account though TWRP. As soon as I tried to reboot to system, it brought me back to TWRP.
I suppose I had to disable encryption all over again so I formatted Data, installed the update again and started to move the required zip for Magisk and encryption disabling back in the internal memory. During the installation the system rebooted (I didn't ask to, the first time it didn't reboot til I asked) and something crashed on the first screen pf MIUI 10. Then it decided to reboot again to recovery... and the TWRP was gone, I have the MIUI stock recovery again. Anyway, I formatted the data once more and the system is running without problems now.
tldr: Updated, data was deleted, TWRP is gone, system seems good

Question Can i downgrade from miui 13 to 12 without loosing data?

I should have been more careful before updating coz after the update i realized that twrp won't work on miui 13. I can fastboot recovery but the internal storage is encrypted and it shows 0 MB. I need root, so i am thinking of downgrading to 12.5 again. Can i do that without loosing data? Also how can i downgrade? Should i just download fastboot version of the rom and update it?

you can't update from 13 to 12.5 you need to erase all your data , it's mandatory...
Just flash the fastboot rom with Mi Flash and tick "Clean All" so after MIUI boot you can flash twrp and other ROM again
Already messed it up :-( Can you please tell me which fastboot rom i should flash... I was using eu rom but even after flashing it phone boots to mi recovery.
Hey, yesterday I flashed xiaomi eu stable MIUI 13.0.3 by their script.
To do it,
1) put the phone in fastboot mode
2) just run the script by double clicking on it, however you need the file with data_format on the end.
If your phone does bootloop and go back to MIUI Recovery 5.0 like mine did yesterday, you can fix it by wiping all data in this recovery it boots up to and then restarting the phone. It worked for me and my friend.

I didnt know this.. I won't go to MIUI 13 again coz there are no recoveries for it and it cant be decrypted for now but its good to know that i dont need recovery for root. Thank you!
I installed today CherishOS A12. Tbh cool rom, doesn't work that bad. A lot better than miui though. Animations are nice and long, plus the phone is fast.
