How can I run old version of an app?? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I downloaded old version of an app and when i run the app it says that i need to update then I used Apkeditor to modify the app version number to the newest, it worked for few days but now it says that i have to update. knowing that there is no new updates to modify the app to. is there any other ways to run the old version?

you can use firewall for preventing an app to connect to his server for update, also can change date of your phone to old date

what do you mean with use firewall

You can block the server that the app uses to connect and fetch updates. That way, the app will not know that there is a new update since it cannot access the server to fetch a new version number, allowing you to keep your old version. However, eventually the app will become so old that it will not be able to access its API anymore, so just keep that in mind.

You can try using the cheatdroid app
If the app stores a file for 'app version' , you can modify the file to make the app believe it's on a different version
It's not as difficult as it seems you will get hold of it once you download the app
Note: Root is needed

I can download just fine on my phone, but it's easier to get on my computer and download from there. That's what isnt working.
Your ISP is probably using a new public IP address. Thus, your computer is recognized as out of the states.
Edit: if this is the case, it will go away by itself after a few days when the servers are updated.

Isp doesnt affect Android market, as if you go to market settings you will find your phone model and mobile service provider that you are using. Android market depends on that data. I can use russian proxies to download US apps and market wont block me till I am on US mobile network.

From the play store it saids "Only available to USA users and will be available to ALL Countries later".
So the server itself does not allow any device outside of USA to access its server database. So the only thing you can do is install the apk, and proxy your device to a US Proxy, and it might work.

Suspicious app called MtkCamera

Rooted my phone using the Vroot method and did some surveying with permission manager, xPrivacy and I stumbled upon a mysterious app called MtkCamera (com.example.cameraroot). I have no recollection of ever installing this app. I find this suspicious because I use permission manager on other phones running ICS and never have to deal with this app before. Considering all the apps listed are installed from Google Play Store, I decided to restrict all permission and uninstall the app. Check out the permissions list.

I removed it right after I found its existence.
If root fail then we see toast notifications that restore successful and this app we can see in multitask... I think it is for reverting back if root fails...

I'm not convinced. Looking at the network permissions, it doesn't make sense why it would need to control network access.

If you not sure if you want to remove it yet, put it behind a firewall
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jtschohl.androidfirewall
or freeze the app
appreciate the warning
Any devs here want to decompile it and see what it does?

I rooted with Vroot, installed english SU and then removed the Chinese SU using the vroot app and I don't have the app installed.
Removed it as soon as I saw it. Better not run it, and remove it does nothing to the root.

Sure, but what does it do? Does it steal your contacts? Send SMS'? Log your IMEI? Log your keystrokes? Or is it nothing out of the ordinary? Who knows!
I could decompile it myself, but I have no idea what to look for, so that's a complete waste of time.
We can make a game out of this. Post what you think it does, and we'll see who wins The winner gets an Xperia Z1 (image from the internetz).

A quick Google search reveals that "MTK" is MediaTek, a Taiwanese semiconductor company that's in the smartphone business, so I guess that's something? Still doesn't tell us why MediaTek's camera thingy is installed on some Ultras, though.

I vrooted too.
Is this thing only visible when using certain security apps?
I cannot find it in list of settings〉apps
I cannot see such process running either. I have not uninstalled anything since vroot

So the reason some people do not have can be simply because they do not have a TW firmware. Have a TW firmware and got it after vroot. But where would be the point for vroot to put a malicious apps on your phone when they can do anything they want while rooting your device? Maybe you should not take your phone with you on the bathroom, they may record you hahahaha.

So your theory about TW firmware might be valid.

So you don't find the following permissions suspicious?
Change network connectivity
Connect and disconnect wifi
Full network access
View network connection
View wi-fi connection
Pair with bluetooth devices
Allow wifi multicast reception
Call me paranoid, but I think this is a spying app...
this app with us from the beginning.
this is what I found -platform for the bottom and top of the camera for a detailed explanation of the process and the introduction of the frame code
that does seem suspicious.
Is the view that this root method is trustworthy?
Trying to weigh up if all is well before I root.
Cheers

[Q] Running a Server on Galaxy S4

I've installed and used server apps on multiple Android devices, without any trouble... including my Galaxy S4 (Verizon).
Now, I'm trying to use one again, but it doesn't allow remote connections... in this case a simple FTP app, one I've used several times before.
I have a regular FTP client on my phone, and it can connect to the server app using both the WiFi address and the localhost address.
But when I try to access my phone via FTP from another computer, it times out and fails.
I've tried a few other server apps, and they behave the same way. I can connect from a client app installed on the phone, but not from another device.
Ok.. so let's have some info...rooted? Build base? Rom?....too hard to guess what you have.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Sorry about that...
Yes, rooted.
Most bloatware frozen via Titanium. Stock ROM otherwise.
FTP client app is FolderSync.
I have used this specific FTP server app on this phone before without problem.
It's like a firewall has been turned on, except that I haven't installed one.

I'm on MJ7.
There have been no updates to the phone since the last time I used this FTPd app (that I am aware of).
I tried installing Android Firewall, and specifically allowing the FTPd app thru the firewall... with same results (client on phone works, client on PC doesn't).

Facebook badge notification missing

I remember at some point before some software updates the Facebook app used to be show notifications via the little round badge on the top-right of the app icon. It hasn't been working since I did an update (not sure what version it was). In the app permission info this function is still listed there. Do you guys have the same issue too?

Not sure how this is related to the xzu.... Are you using a stock ROM? If so get rid of the xperia social media bloat and download them manually from the play store.

Brah I think you're the only one who uses that on this site.
Anyways I'm not sure if you can downgrade an update, but what you can do is flash an earlier version of your ROM and then disable/ignore the updates
So knowing what version of Android you're using would help.

Thanks for the suggestion but I wont go as far to flashing/downgrading the rom to get a feature back. I am on the latest 5.1.1 build.
