File Managers - Grant system access [ROOT] - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

Does anyone know if you can root the 'My Files' samsung default file manager to have system root access ? I assume not... If not, then does anyone know if androids DocumentsUI file manager can ?
I'm Magisk 17.3 rooted.
Or if not to both, does anyone have a good suggestion for a rooted file manager that can backup and restore apps/apk's but has NO AD's! (I'm happy to pay $1-2 to remove ADs also)
Just want a clean file manager that i can backup/uninstall/reinstall apps with no ad's, essentially.

[Request] Root explorer

What's the best file manager with root enabled? (possibly free )
Sent from my MB525
for me is file expert
File Expert does the job for me
I like Astro. It has all the usual tools of any file manager, and it remembers the settings of each folder like windows explorer in PC.
No root mode for both of them or do I need glasses?

Ooops sorry FE doesn't have root access as yet.
You can probably manually give Astro root permissions, but it does not ask for them by itself. Instead, it just states 'insufficient permissions'.
I myself prefer Root Explorer. It's basic, but because of that, not cluttered with features I do not need in a file manager.
I've been using Super Manager.
The free version gives you root explorer capabilities, including R/W.
Some features are locked down unless you pay, such as the ability to directly open/edit files in the root explorer function but a quick'n'dirty workaround is to copy the file in question to the SD card, edit it to your hearts content and paste it back over the original.
Same as above - super manager seems ok

I've just started using super manager as i needed to instal apps to the system/app file and couldn't do it with File Expert. Quite like SM now and it does what i need.
Root explorer is great! I use the paid version for all my tasks, but I will try super manager as it seems to have many followers!
i also use root explorer, try the free version, i went for the paid one. it's very easy too use
I have tried out a couple(ES, FE Astro) but I really like Super Manager after having used it.
The amount of options and tweaks and the free root access combined with a solid ui makes it an easy choice for me.
For those that dont know.
ES File Explorer (free) works just fine with root. Here is a trick. I just stumbled upon it while trying to mess with it.
Settings -> Home Directory
change home directory to be "\" instead of "\sdcard\"...
waaalaa, it's there....i was able to edit a file, didnt try saving it.
give it a shot and let us know..

If you tried saving it, you'd have seen ESFE pop up an error message. Its root capabilities only work on a couple of custom ROMs.
the best file manager is the ADB shell
but super manager is OK too.

[Q] Use file explorer to delete system apps?

I'm using AndExplorer right now. I'm wondering if deleting the .apk and .odex files in "/system/app" will free more internal memories. Is deleting them the same as uninstalling system apps?
I'm looking for alternatives in removing system apps or any way to free more internal memory without rooting the device. If anyone have any suggestion, please help.
For what I know: uninstalling the app removes it from /system/app and you dont need root access to do this. Deleting an app from /system/app needs root access (write access to system partition).
I tried deleting the files directly from the file explorer app but it was denied. Other people said that you need to root the phone first in order to grant superuser access, then the files in the /system/app can be modify.
So there is no other way to get rid of the system apps?
No, there ist no other way. No root access means no superuser access. With the superuser-app you can grant root access to single applications. But only if you previously rooted your phone. No root = you cannot delete something from system partition.

[Q] looking for the apk files that was downloaded from playstore

Hi
I'm getting the new s 3 and I want to install all the same software I currently have on my s 2. Some of the software is no longer available in the play store so I'm trying to find out where the apk files that you download from the play store are downloaded to. So does anybody know the file path... Oh i'm running OS 4 ice cream
If you phone is rooted then you can go into root\data\app and find the apks. And again, if you're rooted then a better way is to just use Titanium Backup. If not rooted then redownload the apps.
Play store will display all the apps you have downloaded, if u r going to use the same Google id. This has helped a lot while changing roms.
Go backup is available in the market, it doesn't require root for backing up apks.
I can't see them in this directory

The folder is actually /data/app. Not root/data/app.
And if you don't have root, I don't think you'll be able to see anything in the folder. (or in the data folder at all, for that matter)
Under /data/app you'll find a few hundred folders, one for each app you have installed. They also may have been moved to the external sdcard if you chose to do so.
The best option, IMO, to have the APK files readily available is to install ES Explorer (free, available at the Play Store), and use to backup all the applications to the external sdcard. This way you can simply get all the ready-to-be-installed APK files from a single location, instead of having to iterate through each of the directories in /data/app (which is a PITA).
I use ES Explorer not only to backup all the APKs to a single location, but also to backup different versions of the same app, because ES Explorer suffixes the name of the APK with its version number.
A lot easier and quite more practical.
BTW, you don't need root to use that feature of ES Explorer.

There shouldn't be any folders in /data/app

Try this: Install "Wondershare MobileGo" to PC,after you have installed, connect your SGS2 with WiFi or USB cable to PC and export app. to PC. Then Connect SGS3 with WiFi or USB cable to PC and install the same app from PC to your phone...It is easy to do...

Android 7.1.2 and Magisk: Can't install an app as system app - permissions

Hello, folks,
I have a problem with my Nexus 5X (Android 7.1.2). I had rooted it with TWRP and Magisk, until last no problems. After an update to Magisk v18 two days ago, I found the problems.
I had an app that I installed as a system map. It was deleted after the update. If I now want to reinstall it (as in this manual), it won't work. I can create a folder in "system/app" and "system/priv-app" (or copy the APK there), but I can't do anything else. No renaming, no changing of permissions. Also it often happens that I cannot copy the file there because of missing permissions. This only works once after a restart. After a restart the copied file or folder will be deleted again and again.
I tried Solid Explorer, Root Explorer and ES File Manager. Link2SD also fails and cannot create the system app. SU permissions are on for all tested apps.
Does anyone have an idea what I should do? :-/

This is a normal problem for Magisk. To fix it do the following. Open Magisk manager's settings and turn on core only mode then reboot. Do your system stuff add/remove apps, set permissions, etc. Then turn off core only mode (or modules won't work) and reboot once more.

Question Why can't Samsung's file manager access "data"?

If 3rd party file managers can access the /Android/data/ folder, why can't Samsung's file manager app?
It has not enough permission. Samsung think it is for your security. You can use third party app but if you mess something it is your fault.
Google made that change for "our security"
Try FVL File explorer which utilises a workaround
I suggest using MiXplorer.
Total Commander or Root explorer
Also Solid-Explorer or X-plore File Manager will do the job.

Funfact is that Android's native file manager app - com.google.android.documentsui, which I open through Shortcut Manager Light-app - this folder and content still displays without any issue ...
