If I remember it should be. Last time I looked at mine it was 50 degrees.
Oh ok... Thanks.. I just hope the phone doesn't bulge up..

That doesn't seem right at all, while hosting a wireless hotspot for 3 devices my phone doesn't get above 80 F. How how (to the touch) does it feel?
I can feel the heat from the screen and also from the back when I just place my hand over the phone!! It happens when I play games on my phone (angry birds and so on).. And after sometime it goes back to normal..

Possibly random process
I have gotten my razr to 125 F, (52C) But that was charging, 4G, netflix, HDMI out, bluetooth on and docked. Have had it at 108F with only 3g, and some games or high power programs.
Also will shoot up to 102 randomly in my pocket (higher sometimes, it was uncomfortable) till I rooted and set a cpu governor for when screen is off.
Just registered here and posting from my tower. My device, droid razr, felt like it was getting too hot with average usage. It is my third replacement since February but that is a long story.
I called VZW tech support and they never heard of such a thing LOL. Anyway, I posted the issue on a couple of forums and learned about a great widget called BatteryLife. It is available at the market for free and happily is not one of those apps that requires you agree to let them have access to everything you own and your first born child.
After installing the widget today I find my device runs at a low of 85 Fahrinheit to a high of 105. At least so far. The widget displays battery usage and current temperature. So one thing I found out was that a device can feel hot compared to our body temperature but be within a safe range of operation. Hope this is helpful.
I took the phone to Motorola service centre and they said that the phone is getting unusually hot. So they took it for observation and said that they will get back to me tomorrow. They said that they will replace it if necessary!!! So hoping for the best!!
Mine has done this a few times as well. Yesterday I was reading with my bible app for about 10 minutes and it just got smoking hot. Wasn't using data wifi or anything. Its like it just shot up in temp. Over the weekend this happened while in my pocket. I rebooted it both times and the temp came back down. I did not notice any force closes or anything running weird. Is there a way we can see what the culprit is? Maybe a logcat or something?

I have to agree about this. Mine has gotten extremely hot atleast to me because of flashing etc..I stuck it in the fridge LOL just to cool before continuing with flashing. While it may feel hot it might not be in danger.
Having that widget is cool (no pun intended ) I've been charging my razr to 100% before I go to sleep.
It was @ 82 Fahrenheit when it began, starting @ 60% When I checked it after it reached the full charge it had gone up to 84°.
Off the charger overnight it had gone to 90% charge and the temperature of the device was 82°.
As an aside, if I use my car charger the temp goes up around 8° or so. I'd encourage anyone to get that BatteryLife widget. You'll know what is going on with your device and if there is a warranty issue you'll be on firm footing to prove it.
BTW, after about 15 minutes on tapatalk my device is @ 96.5° F.

I just played dead space for 20 min and it got to 41C
I just got the phone from the service center in the morning and it hadn't heated up so far.. Actually haven't crossed 37°c.. The service guy just formatted and flashed the ROM. I have been using the phone normally till now but haven't installed some of the apps I had previously.. So will do that and let you know.
Anyway the service guy said that he will replace the phone if it still has the same problem.

I have noticed that after a few days of using, the back of the phone esp. the lower part tends to get warm/hot to the touch after using it for internet via Mobile Data. I haven't noticed this with games or watching videos. My phone is already rooted with CWM installed but I haven't played with the settings of the CPU.
Can you consider this normal? I came from Galaxy S II and the overheating issue was well documented while playing HD Games like those from Gameloft and other intensive activities on the phone., even if the unit is on ICS.
No. They must have sent you a miniature nuclear reactor instead!
Seriously, there are LOADS of threads on this.

I am experiencing the same behaviour, but only if I use the handset for extended periods. It isn't too hot to hold though by no means but I can understand the concerns about battery.
Looking at this though, http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung-Galaxy-S-III-Teardown/9391/1#.T-AmIxeXSjP you can see that the Processor and all the other heat worthy chipsets are located in the lower portion of the handset.
Well that is completely normal in many cases. the lover part consist of the battery and most of the heating units. Mobile data consumes battery. try to play a big game like nova for 20 minutes and check if the heat is still there
I only experience this whenever I use data packet connection for internet. WiFi and other activities like playing HD Games and watching movies, the back portion is relatively cool if not just a little bit warm.
Here are the temps that Ive monitored:
1. WiFi: 29-32'C
2. HD Games: 29-31'C
3. Movies: 29-33'C
4. Data Packet Connection: 29-43'C. Please take note that if the Data Packet (Mobile Data) is on and I leave the phone unattended for almost an hour, the temp. reading slowly goes down to 30'C.
Would you consider these temperature readings normal?
I need expert advise from you guys.
Many thanks!

Hello.
I thinks it's normal...
But if you whant to compare, try that.
Download stability test app from google-play and run CPU/GPU test.
After 16 cpu passes it show me 42c.
Room temp is about 29c-30c
Also the phone is not in my hands τo avoid the temperature of my body and also without any case.
What's yours?
Thanks
I tried that app and tried that test. Mine passes and registered 41.5'C.
Is that ok?
But I think the primary culprit would be the modem, the one responsible for the 3G connection.
I dont think there are available modems flashable via CWM at the moment.

Hmm, maybe you're right.
Try to flash a diff modem from here and compare the result's.
As for flashing you can try MobileOdin. (I have the pro version)
I can't do that now cause i'm at work..
I change the modem as advise by ausdim. It improve my connectivity and I noticed that it went to a maximum of 41.3'C.
Just to be on the safe side, I placed it in room-temperature and put it o a flat surface, to be exact on my writing pad. After 30 minutes of browsing, most of the readings are from 38' and below.
Would you consider this to be a significant improvement?
Hrm, perhaps the US version will be a plus because of the lack of the overheating exynos. I'm ordering mine tomorrow from sprint
which modem did you use ?
Let it run the cpu+gpu test for 19 cpu passes and it was at 39.4°.

my first galaxy s3 model got extremely hot towards the bottom of the phone and temps around 49 celecius...i exchanged it through expansys....then my replacement phones back casing had cracks, so i sent it back for another exchange from expansys but that one didn't get as nearly as hot as the first one...hope my third replacement will be ok...sigh...if not i might just go the att route...
My experience
The first two days I had my phone, I was playing with it non stop for about 4 hours and mine got really warm too [bottom 1/3 of phone]
I was playing NOVA 3 with all radios on, and possible a few apps running in the background. The battery lasted less than 3 hours.
I just figured that it would have to as these powerful high performance electronics devices do tend to heat up.
Now, two weeks in, I have not noticed it since, so for me I'd put it down to new phone syndrome.

I did that test with my undervolted One X, after 20 cpu passes: 39,6°C

seems that the tegra 3 does not get noticably hotter than sgs3. nvidia just chose way too high voltages...

I had 3 HOXes before my SIII and they all became uncomfortable hot. Specially the ring around the camera was litterally burning hot, couldn't touch it.
But that was not the reason for returning it, they had other hardware faults.
I'm getting ready to pack in my M8, and I want to go the same size or smaller for under $450 (tops). The Z5c seems to be the only Android phone that really fits that bill while keeping respectable performance, but there are two issues that have me thinking twice: overheating and the "self-cracking glass".
I know nothing can be done about the screen (unless a tempered glass protector helps to keep it intact), but the overheating, if fixed, could sway me away from the Honor 8 or LG G5. I've read that the firmware update that came along with Marshmallow has largely fixed the problem, and combined with a patch available here that throttles the phone a little more aggressively, heat is no longer a big problem. That said, I'm concerned about gimping the performance of the phone in order to keep it from char-broiling my hands. How noticeable is the throttling and, if thermals are still an issue with the phone, how big of one are they?
If you wouldn't recommend the Z5c, the thermal issues remain or the throttling hurts performance in a noticeable way, I'd be curious if there are any other phones (with a micro SD slot) that you think are worth looking at.
Thanks!
Hey , i have my phone from March
this year, 3-4 updates still overheating..
battery top 46C, and cpu 60C MAX so far and stays there,
but! when battery reached 40C+ and CPU 60C+, device become 50% slow (i guess to prevent overheating)
on some games\apps you feel it, some not,
even on anutu cold device is about 90K hot device is about 50K score
after 5 -15 minutes of gaming already from 28 to 43, (depend room temp and game\app) sometimes i can shoot 4K videos for 10 minutes sometimes 1 hour
i think self cracked glass happening because two reasons
1 mainly reason: moving fast from cold when the glass is pretty hot by much (heat cause expanded)
2.sitting on device without notice
ps
sorry if my english is bad

Thank you! Do you know if the X Compact will run any cooler? The lower power chipset can only help, but I'm concerned about paying $500 for a phone that might not be as powerful as its older brother, which now retails for $100+ less, especially if the overheating and cracked glass issues aren't solved.
If only the Honor 8 wasn't riddled with iOS disease...
you're welcome
As far as iknow for the X compact does not have 4K, slower GPU,(CPU speed is about the same) not water resistant \proof
but he run abit cooler and got more RAM 3 for multitasking
i own only Z5 Compact

you can check your temp history somehow? like C3 widget?
or real time small app (shows cpu and batt temp)
maybe you dont play heavy games?
try run antutu 3-4 times see how much score is changing each run ,mine is from 90K to 50K more annoying then overheating himself
I run a few time antutu and i comback with results

2nd antutu 62.831 Cpu temp 41 c Battery temp 38c
3rd antutu 62.148 Cpu temp 41c Battery temp 39c
anyway , your antutu score is much higher than mine in the first time (i think depends what rom, kernel do you use..) , but like u see, mine didn`t drop at 50.000 in 3 attempts .anyway my max cpu temp was 42c when i run for first time antutu,

Any S810 device will overheat, it's inherently badly designed. Sony's hardware thermal solution is probably the best any OEM have done with the S810. It's also possible that Sony has optimized under-the-hood settings to further reduce load on the SoC and keep the temperature down.
Other software tweaks are mostly just a balance game of performance and throttling threshold.
Stock Sony firmware goes the more conservative route, so usually you won't experience noticeable heat when using it lightly.
It will still get pretty hot if you use it for intensive tasks that utilizes the full capacity of the hardware, such as playing demanding games, record in 4K for a long period of time, or watch videos that need a lot of complex decoding... etc.
If you're looking for performance without "unnecessary" throttling, just avoid all S810 devices.
Personally, most of the time I had no problems with the temp and perf of my Z5C, but there has been a few cases where I did experience slowdowns due to the throttling.
Got mine from December 2015. After few weeks of usage, it really overheats a lot. After several updates through the months, Device still overheats until now, still uncomfortable to the touch when it overheats. Tried reformatting yesterday, performance seems better with less bloatware stuff and on regular usage. But when cpu is under heavy load, device heats up and performance is reduced a lot to the point that it lags. But overall, still love my Z5C~ <3
It overheats uncomfortably. I tried xpower 4.0 ROM, smarttemperaturex mod, etc although it does reduce heat but not enough to be comfortable and im not talking about heavy tasks I'm talking about Firefox browser, WhatsApp and tapatalk.
The phone is almost never room temperature when using its either warm or hot which gets annoying after some time, don't even let me mention how hot it can get with few minutes of phone calls.
Sent from my E5823 using Tapatalk
I'd say go for X Compact. Zero overheating issues. This heat actually gets on your nerves at one point. While the gpu of X Compact is inferior, in long periods of gaming there won't be any throttling on XC but Z5c will give half the performance so at the end of the day, the X Compact will feel a lot snappier
Sent from my E5803 using XDA-Developers mobile app
It overheats like crazy. I'm flashing 5.1 in hope that it will help.
When running Antutu i put my phone in refrigerator so that I can get a better score! :silly:
Any new cpu is hotter than quad-core of sd800/801 bcoz it's now much faster, even sd820 gets hot during heavy loading though better than sd810.
I've flashed SmartTemperatureX v1.61(no charging bug) and found temp is acceptable and battery life improved a bit.
Hi guys, this is something that keeps me up at night. The recent software update was supposed to make performance of the Moto Z better, and in actual daily usage I find nothing to complain about, but when it comes to benchmarks it's a whole different story, I have the uk version by the way. To be frank, I used to get about 129 000 in antutu, which is pretty low to start with, and now it's down to 126 000, geekbench is lower than you would expect from this phone too, at about 1350 single core and 3810 multicore. So basically I started this thread as a place where we could share our benchmark results and discuss them, because I have a feeling I just got an unlucky unit, because it also gets real hot real fast (up to 60 degrees celcium), and I can't make it last for more that 4 hours of screen on time, and I'm really not a heavy user. I just feel strange about this phone, because I love everything else about it, and it’s good that I do, because resale value on these things is beyond awful, tried to sell it for 500 bucks for months with no success.
Benchmarks mean abso-farking-lutly nothing. If they are keeping you up any night, you have a mental issue. I suggest you see a shrink.

Well, there is no reason to be so toxic my friend, my main concern is that I may be the only one here with such a low score, and since the score got even lower after some time that could mean I may have a defective device, and that would be a real problem to keep me up at night.
I don't think there's a problem with your unit, 4 hours screen on time sounds normal without the battery mod on. That drop in benchmark score isn't very significant unless it continues to drop dramatically. I have the UK model too, and it is underclocked by default to 1.8GHz. You could try the Turbo Z kernel to improve it
Also mine gets really hot fast when using Daydream VR or anything intensive but 60 °C isn't dangerous for the SD820. (You could check battery use in settings incase something is keeping your phone awake.)
Geekbench 4:
Single core 1369
Multi core 3779
Seems benchmarks are pretty similar. I'm on rooted Android N but stock kernel so same as yours.

Thank you for your comforting and friendly reply, in battery settings Android OS, Android system, and phone idle are on top when I'm not using the phone actively, I've had laughable results sometimes, like yesterday I had 30 percent battery left with only about an hour of screen on time, again no gaming involved, but this usually happens when I'm moving around, if I stay at home and nothing happens to the phone it usually won't drain battery like that. I think the reason the phone gets hot easily is obviously because of how thin it is, for example, when I keep it in the pocket it's just as hot as my body tempreture, since it just absorbs heat that easily, but has a hard time getting rid of it.

You're welcome. If you click on the graph you can see the awake time too, lately something has been keeping mine awake and draining the battery too. Not sure what it is yet, but if yours is getting really bad screen on time it could be similar. Likely an app running in the background keeping the phone awake which would heat it up more and drain the battery. There are wake lock detection apps that claim to be able to tell you which is causing this.
As you can see it's awake for long periods of time when the screen is off, and it really shouldn't be. Hope this helps :good:
Not sure if you guys experienced this, but I was playing around with the Google Assistant in Akinator and my device temperature went sky high up to the point where the phone notified me that it has to dim the screen and take action against that.
I set my phone to the max resolution and framerate, and I also keep it in the silicone bumper they shipped.
Did you guys ever see this happen too?
P.s. it wasn't charging.

No issues here, in fact I've been impressed with how cool it stays. Hammered some benchmarks and it barely went over 45c
This is obviously just sat idling now but I've been using the phone for over an hour on max resolution, 90hz and no power saving.
I faced the same in two instances. One, when I was transferring files through Xender. Second, when my Google Photos were syncing with cloud.
Received the same notification as well. The phone was untouchably hot and battery drained a lot faster.
My assumption is whenever there's a big load of data transfer, the phone turns unbearably hot.
I really don't know why you're experiencing this, I have barely put my phone down today and it's been ambient temperature at best including when playing COD. I've got a fair sized file transfer going here and temperatures are absolutely fine
I should also point out before my first screenshot at 10am I had 17 hours standby. I've used my phone on and off all day for web browsing, music and some gaming and in the second screenshot 10 hours later I still have 30% battery remaining and it's not once gotten hot at all. Running 10.0.3 since yesterday afternoon.

Great to know that, I have no clue why we are facing this then. I was hoping it will get better with the future software updates.
Also, there's so much less to read about OnePlus 7T Pro compared to OnePlus 7 Pro. Seems a lot of people did not go for it hence the development is really less, I hope it catches up soon. Waited for so long to get a OnePlus device.
I am facing the same issue, sometimes I'll be doing literally nothing but messaging and the phone will become uncomfortably warm like in the 60's - 70°c also my battery life is quite lower than expected around 4 hours SOT I'm going to try a factory reset and hope for the best
Having exactly the same issue, brand new unit. Delivered today, CPU temps reaching 85 Celsius ! (updated to latest Android 10, not charging, not playing games or doing any intense tasks).
I own a OP6 and OP2 and never felt such uncomfortable heat while holding the phone, hoping its just a deficient unit and not a general problem with the OP7T Pro.
