Weird Problem with USB 3.0 drives - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

Yesterday I tried to connect a USB 3.0 drive (both a pen drive and an external 1 TB HDD) to my poco via otg. It took some time to detect (hard drive took much longer than pen drive, USB 2.0 drives were detected instantly). When I tried to copy data from my pen drive or my hard drive to my phone the transfer speed was stuck around only 1MB/s. Both are formatted with NTFS format and I have used them with my previous Redmi Note 3 and Redmi Note 5 Pro, they used to work fine in both of those phones. I tried to copy data in MIUI using Paragon and even a custom rom like Havoc, Nitrogen etc. I don't know why transfer speed is so slow on POCO? Could it be due to type-c port? I even tried using different file explorers but same result. Any solution?

Portable Harddisk to Tab

i connected a WD Essential SE portable hdd (1TB) to the Tab 10.1 via the usb adaptor and a powered usb hub. The drive is formatted to FAT32.
When powered up, the Tab shows usb storage connected but after awhile it becomes usb device unexpectedly removed. I am not able to access the portable drive at all.
Anyone can advise if there is anything I can do to make it work?
My Tab is 3G version with Android 3.1 with baseband P7500UBKG6.
Thanks.
me too...
any solution guys?
I presume you need to have a seperate power supply since the tab seems to refuse to use high-power usb devices all together.
I tried connecting my disk dock and that worked fine(uses a normal power supply on the side)
got it to work by using Broodcomb ROM and using [email protected] manager to format the harddisk to FAT32, not sure which one cause it to work. The setup is the same as before.

[Q] Nikon dslr USB OTG (DslrDashboard) problem

Thanks for reading....
Has anyone been able to connect a Nikon DSLR (I have tried D7000) via USB OTG to their Desire X running Jelly Bean on a non-rooted phone? I have been able to connect an 8GB thumbdrive and mouse successfully but when the dslr is connected the drives are not available via ES file explorer or the images via the gallery, there are no error message the device is just not detected.
I have confirmed the cameras USB port by connecting to a standard PC successfully and I have tried the dslr with 1 and 2 SDcards in each slot in case the dual cards were causing an issue. Upon connecting the camera the access light flashes so I know some kind of connection is attempted.
USB Host Diagnostics shows the OS has support for USB OTG.
Should this work on a non rooted setup or do I need to root and install a custom ROM for full USB OTG support? Hopefully I can find a way to connect the device and use DSLR Dashboard.
Phone:: Desire X
Android:: 4.1.1
Sense:: 4+
Software Num :: 2.22.206.3
HTC SDK API level :: 4.65
Kernel :: 3.4.0-g162d501
Carrier : O2 (UK)
Thanks Again.
It depends on the filesystem used on the flash card of the camera. If it is using ntfs, you'll need root to mount the partition.
Sent from my HTC Desire X using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Thanks for your response, the 16GB cards are SDHC and are natively formatted to FAT32. I have also tried a FAT16 256MB card and with no card inserted. Same result as before the device isn't detected.
I will try to root the phone over the w/e and see it this helps.
Are you sure the camera gets enough power? Alternatively, get yourself a USB SD card reader and put the card in there.
ybrHous cannot
It may be a power issue, I know with portable hard drives an additional powered connection is sometimes needed. However I think the camera connection is purely used for data and the camera is operating from its own battery.
I should have said in the original post the connection will be used with the DSLR Dashboard app to control the camera remotely.
Thanks again

[Q] OTG problems with 64 gb flash drive

I have a problem with detection of my ADATA S102 PRO 64 gb usb 3.0 flash drive formatted in NTFS. Device detects it very, very randomly and most often after a long period of time, or for the most of the time, never at all (5-10 minutes of being plugged in over OTG cable, but still nothing). The funny thing is, that s3 detects 4 gb flash drive (in fat32) and 320 gb hard drive (in NTFS) just fine. I wait 1 to 5 seconds and "Easy OTG Checker" program detects it (show its name) and "Nexus Photo Viewer" starts automatically as well. But my 64 gb flash drive almost never boots. I followed some troubleshoot guides, to insert OTG and USB into the device, and than re-boot it, while cable was still plugged in. Well, I tried this and USB was found. I though to myself "Thats it. I just have to reboot it when I want to use USB", but after second time, USB never mounted again. Even when there is no cable connected, "Easy OTG Checker" program still shows green check mark. It should show red cross, but it doesn't. It shows green check mark, and under it, it says: "Detected USB device: (Unknown), or "Detected USB device: Comneon HSIC Device".
You must be thinking now that this USB is not compatible with OTG standards. But you are wrong. My nexus 7 2013 detects this drive in less than 1 second. The moment I insert OTG cable into my nexus, "Easy OTG Checker" detects my USB drive as: "Detected USB device: ADATA ADATA USB Flash Drive", and when I remove it, it shows red cross as it should.
Now you must be thinking that my s3 can detect 4 gb drive and 320 gb drive, but for some bizarre reason, it cannot detect my 64 gb usb flash drive.
You are now 100 % confident to know what's wrong with my s3. It is USB 3.0 right? Both other drives are usb 2.0 so it is logical that my 64 gb drive wont work because it is 3.0 drive, and nexus 7 detects it because it is newer and better and stronger and bigger. Right? Right? But what if I told you that my friend has the same s3 as me, and when I tried the same OTG cable and the same flash drive, it detects my usb in a second. "Easy OTG Checker" detects it in a heartbeat.
I have read every possible thing related to this, every google post, every forum thread, every youtube video and I still didn't find anything related to this problem or even close to it. When I was on original samsung 4.1.2 rom, when I inserted my 64 gb usb flash drive, it showed red cross (not for 4 gb or 320 gb drive, only for 64 gb one). But when I installed cyanogenmod 4.4.2, SlimBean 4.3, and now stock samsung 4.3, it started this "Detected USB device: (Unknown)" or "Detected USB device: Comneon HSIC Device", even when no OTG cable was detected. But this message doesn't really mean anything, because it changes the moment I connect 4 gb or 320 gb drive (because it actually detects those USB's).
If anyone has any idea what could be wrong, please share it. Anything.
Thanks
tldr: My s3 detects 4 gb usb stick and 320 gb hard drive, but does not detect my 64 gb usb stick even though my nexus 7 2013 and my friends s3 detects it just fine.
update:
Today I tested this 64 gb stick on Sony Ericsson Live (yes, a phone from 2011), and "Easy OTG Checker" detected it. It said: "Detected USB device: ADATA ADATA USB Flash Drive" just like on my nexus 7. Device was on original sony rom 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich.
I also tested it on nexus 5 with latest 4.4.2 kitkat and "Easy OTG Checker" said the same. It recognized the stick and mounted it perfectly.
Come on guys. No clue what could be wrong ? I know that it is a very strange case, but is there really nothing I can do to fix this? I don't know what to do anymore.

Need help in getting USB drive to work on the LG G5

Based on the compatibility list from Sandisk's website, the LG G5 supports Sandisk Ultra Dual USB Drive Type-C.
The link can be found here: kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/17189
I will try to describe my problem clearly below.
I just bought a Sandisk Ultra Dual USB Drive Type-C 128GB. It work fine with my laptop when I use the usb A connector. My phone have the camplus module connected and I tried to connect the type c connector of the Ultra Dual USB Drive to my LG G5 and I realise the phone was unable to recognize it or even detect it. So after sometime I figure out that the problem is most likely the CamPlus so i swapped the module with the original phone connector (the components with speaker only). Now the LG G5 is able to detect the USB drive but it is quite intermittent and the USB Drive can get ejected randomly. I also downloaded the Sandisk Memory Zone App and the application was not able to detect the USB drive. I tried es file manager too but it is also unable to detect the flash drive. The only file manager that works is the build-in LG's file manager and as I mention previously the USB drive can get ejected randomly the build-in LG's file manager is only able to detect the USB drive when it is successfully mounted. On some lucky occasion when the USB drive is mounted successfully, I am able to see the thumbnail of the content inside the USB drive but I am unable to play any video from the USB drive.
I tried the Sandisk Ultra Dual USB Drive Type-C on my Zenfone 3 which also have a USB type c connector port. Initially, when I plugged in the USB drive into my Zenfone 3 said something about unrecognized format and suggest me to format it on the phone. I followed the onscreen instruction and format the USB drive, now the USB drive works flawlessly on my Zenfone 3.
Next, I tried to used the formatted USB drive on my LG G5 but the same issue that I encounter previously on the LG G5 still persist.
Does anyone have any idea is LG phone only able to recognize sd card instead of USB drive? Had anyone encountered my problem before and know the work around or perhaps anyone have some idea how to fix it? I am also not really sure why is the LG G5 only able to view the content the build-in LG's file manager. Thanks for reading this long post. Cheers!
P.S.The USB drive is formatted in exFAT format. The phone is also not root.

EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE (USB) as otg

Hi
I just want to connect my external hard drive (usb) to my poco f1 but the android system or MIUI doesn't recognize the hard as suitable DISK and asks me to format it before i can use it on my phone.
Can anyone help?
Quite likely that the HDD is formatted as NTFS which AFAIK isn't supported by MIUI. You can format the HDD as FAT32( max. file size limited to 4GB) or flash a custom kernel which could enable NTFS support.

The USB Type C port is limited to USB 2.0 only. Plus for handling larger capacity(3/4TB or higher) drives a powerbank is needed.

Ok, thanks i got it, that's why it's very slow with me,
It's usb type c issue, right
I was thinking that the problem is with the MIUI version or the OS support to this, especially that i try the same HDD and same OTG connector on REDMI NOTE 8 PRO based on Android 10 and it was working normally without 3rd party apps or any external apps... Am I right? ?

How slow is it exactly? USB 2 is good enough for 35MB/s.
Type C can be USB 3. 1 as well like in Oneplus 7 series. And in Redmi Note 8 Pro its USB 2.0.
Poco F1 isn't very good when it comes to self-powering high capacity ext. HDDs. Anything over 2TB likely needs a powered USB hub. In my old Redmi Note 3 and Redmi 3s I can easily power 4TB drives even.

I don't know the exact speed (kb/s) is, because the app i used doesn't show the speed indicator i attached to u its pic.
And i tried another app (ex/fat ntfs paragon software with total commander app) and it was the same speed, it's very slow.
For example, video (2gb) takes more than 10 or 20 min to completely transferred from HDD TO my POCO F1
MY EXT. HDD IS 1TB ONLY?
Pls can u tell what can i do more?

Were these issues also present on MIUI based on Android 9 or only arose after upgrading to Android 10? I have been using custom ROMs right from day one. In crDroid 5.9 based on Android 9 there was no issue but in crDroid 6.4 based on Android 10 from what I can see USB 3 devices suffer from very low transfer speeds 0.5MB/s whereas in USB 2 devices transfer speeds are as expected(8-18MB/s). I checked in my PC as well and USB 3 devices are in the range 30-140MB/s.
Could you check with a USB 2 drive?

No, but I didn't update my device. am still on Android 9 MIUI V 11.0.5
and their is no issues with my device when i transfer data from pc with the original USB CABLE, the speed is very good ranging between (7-20MB/s)..
The problem only when i use HDD as OTG USB.
hint"i told u that i try the same HDD with same OTG connector on my friend device (redmi note pro, global stable ROM based on Android 10) and it was working normally with good transfer speed".
that's it.
I don't know. On crDroid Pie I had no issue. Maybe try a custom kernel or just bulk transfer stuff from the HDD via PC over MTP.

Is your issue solved?I updated to crDroid 6.7 today and transfer speeds over USB OTG are as expected. For USB 3.0 ext. HDDs. But in one USB3 pen drive speeds are still abysmally low. Just an exception as I tested multiple HDDs and it was fine. Copying to HDDs fluctuated between 15-25MB/s(avg. ~20MB/s) but copying to internal storage from HDDs was better at ~32MB/s.
