Root/Unlock Development progress? - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

Any updates on development of root/bootloader unlock methods for the Verizon S9+ in the US? Are they even in development?

Don't waste your time, not going to happen

Carrier is not relevant in this particular matter as the hardware and software is all the same. The only difference is the carrier apps, carrier branding and carrier tweaks/configurations to the OS (band settings, etc).
There is no updates at all. It's a pure waiting game. If they have something they will tell us, if they don't it means they don't. It's a pure game of 100% patience on our part.

Nobody seem to have noticed that EPE54B is signed with test-keys and ERE36B with release keys...
Are the apk's also not throwing a lot of useless debug output ?
Not running it!
In my experience most of android throws out useless debug crap.

Won't happen on the devices released to the public because our radio isn't capable of using the ATT3G bands, but they may be releasing a flavor that's compatible with ATT.
Just a guess.

Couldn't this just be resolved with a radio update from Google. I mean GSM is GSM, it's about receiving the right bandwidth which is controlled by the radio. Unless I am missing something, I believe google could push out an update for the radio that supported both TMO and ATT's 3G bandwidth.
You need the right antennas. Hardware.

No, ATT and t-mobile run their 3G on complete different bands, so there's no compatibility between the two with existing hardware(that I know of).
Of course voice and EDGE will still function fine on the same phone between both carriers, but you'll need a phone that supports the specific bands for the carrier you're intending to use 3G on if you want it to work.

I'm sure he was just pulling your leg... no one's stupid enough to ask that question when it's been answered repeatedly, most recently two posts above his own.

What are the differences between the verizon and at&t note 2

Besides the obvious model number, what are the differences in hardware and firmware between the two.
They seem identical my cousin has the galaxy note 2 at&t and I have the i605 Verizon gn2 maybe the network receivers are different

A lot...Verizon (and Sprint) uses CDMA frequencies and radios and AT&T (and T-Mobile) uses GSM frequencies and radios

I understand the obvious here but I currently have the verizon 605 and I'm on at&t so it would seem that it can be on any carrier considering the n2 uses a lot of freqs. I'm talking about actual hardware differences. I might need to do some research on my own with this one. But if anyone else can help with this would be appreciated.

Verizon model doesn't have what it needs to be on AT&T LTE. I believe the way the memory is partitioned is different as well.
Just out of curiosity, why are you wanting to know?

I am a hardware guy. I'm also considering finding out how they tick and make my own custom rom to maybe figure this out and streamline a rom that will be custom only to the note 2 regardless of carrier. i mean its out there that the note 2 will work on any carrier regardless of model because I'm on my 605 running an att rom on att carrier.

The main differences are the included radios
Verizon: http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=3926
AT&T: http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=3918
Of course firmware will be very different because of interfacing with the radios

^ Thanks for this.
Thinking out loud here, not sure why Samsung wouldn't be able to have one radio that can handle all those different LTE bands. Perhaps this is intentional based on requests from US carriers?

Yes...that sounds like something they would request to try and keep you tied to their carrier or make you buy one of their phones when moving to them.

Hmm I am confused here.. doesn't the Verizon note 2 have both GSM and CDMA capabilities, that why is considered a World phone..
I'm pretty certain the main differences is firmare and not hardware. I'll have to check those links Kenny..
I know of people running t mobile on a Verizon note 2 that have everything working perfectly fine and t mobile is GSM. Pop the Sim in, switch mobile networks to GSM, maybe edit apns for lte..but I don't even thunk that is needed once the GSM Sim is in place. This unlocks the add apn feature under access points

Yes, look at the specs...it has GSM radio too with some frequencies. And no, you cannot flash AT&T firmware on a Verizon phone and have a perfectly working AT&T phone.

No I know that.. I am not saying flashing att firmware would work out of the box, so they say.. I am aware of what it takes to port different firmwares
I'm saying using a att or t mobile Sim is possible.. maybe I wondered off the op's topic here..sorry about that

This is possible.. but not without a pretty intense aroma installer..you'll need to separate different csc features, apps, frameworks, permissions, libs, build.props and vender folders. .but yea. Would be a pretty big task and knowledge of all the carriers

Thank you for this tidbit of info. I'm currently trying to figure a way to get my old VZW Note 2 working on Straight Talk for my Dad, who's currently using a 3" Samsung something-or-other P.O.S. I'm going to get the AT&T version of the Straight Talk SIM and try it out since some have reported success with it. If not that one, then maybe the T-Mobile one.
I'll post back with my results (5-10 business days for delivery--yikes!)
P.S. Anyone else out there have a recommendation for a ROM to use for this? I'm going to go with something 4.1.x because I've read that later versions won't work. Jedi X maybe?

LG G6 Unlocked (LGUS997) Discussion

Hi guys, anybody here using the unlocked version of LG G6? I preordered mine off BH Photo Video and it arrived yesterday.
Was browing the threads and forums and haven't seen any regarding the unlocked version. My carrier is AT&T but I hate carrier phones since my experience with AT&T LG G5.
I saw lots of threads about how to access the hidden menu and stuff and tried it myself but didn't work so I was hoping some of you here uses the unlocked version and knows how to do that stuff.
Thanks!

Nope. LG did something stupid again like they did with the G4. They made the us cellular version and us unlocked version the exact same model number. I thought they had learned because with the G5 they differentiated the model number for the us unlocked version, but they went back to old habits I guess. So there are two variants of the us997:
US997: US cellular
US997: USA unlocked variant

No sorry, don't have the device so can't test. Maybe try putting a 0 in front of behind the 997 though, not sure. I'm guessing they wanted to differentiate the access code for the two different software versions but not sure. The code should be what was posted just different would be the 997 part.

Looking into buying unlocked s9+

Looking into buying an unlocked s9+ to get activated on the sprint network. I have been doing a lot of reading and was wondering will there be any features I lose if i keep the unlocked firmware. I read that you can flash it to the sprint firmware, will that fix any issues with the features that are locked on the sprint network due to having an unlocked phone. thanks for the help y'all

So based on your post you can flash to carrier firmware and not lose any features for any service. This is good info should be sticky somewhere.

That wasn't really the point of my post I linked. And it isn't entirely true, especially with AT&T. I was describing what features will work on the basic U1/unlocked firmware on phones sold by Samsung directly as "Factory Unlocked".

You keep visual voicemail and Wi-Fi calling. I don't believe they offer any other services (yet) that you would lose on U1. If they do, they've got to be very minor. Given that Sprint has the worst bloat of all the carriers, I'd recommend you keep the device as-is.

Question U.S. Carrier Versions?

Pre-orders started today in the U.S., is the phone sold on a carrier specific basis? I haven't seen anything from T-Mobile or Verizon about this phone.

Yes, that's correct. I think tmobile provides the best option as far as 5g signal for this phone.
