Just install magisk manager https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases/download/manager-v6.0.1/MagiskManager-v6.0.1.apk
Magisk manager doesn't show up on app list. The problem is particular to Pie based roms (although I didn't face it on miui eu pie. But faced it on all other custom roms). Just install the magisk manager apk manually and you are good to go.

[Noob] Need help to confirm/correct basic understanding of root/custom ROM process involving the latest apks/roms etc.
Device (RN4SD) bootloader unlocked, running MIUI 8.5.8 Stable ROM
Root access only, stock ROM:
1. Only Magisk v.14, No TWRP
- Place stock recovery.img (extracted from mido ROM folder) into phone internal storage
- Install Magisk Manager v.5.4.0 apk on Phone
- Q. Whether to install Magisk v14 zip from Magisk Manager or from MiFlash on PC?
- Q. If from MiFlash on PC, whether to unzip Magisk v.14 into a folder?
- Q. How to patch with stock recovery?
- Q. Whether to select dm-verity option in Manager?
- Q. Will lazyflasher still be needed? If yes, when and how to be flashed?
- Q. Will reboot to system boot into stock ROM, now with root access?
2. Root Access and Custom ROM (e.g. xiaomi.eu)
- Flash install TWRP 3.1.1.0.img (from MiFlash through PC)
- Flash install lazyflasher zip (from TWRP on phone)
- Flash install Magisk v.14 zip (from TWRP) on phone
- Q. Now Reboot? Will this boot into existing MIUI ROM?
Or
- Q. Flash/install custom rom (e.g. xiaomi.eu) (from TWRP on phone) and then reboot to system?

Thanks much

Well, I guess, I've no idea about MIUI, but fact that currently I'm running on Xiaomi.eu ROM. I just flashed latest magisk via TWRP, that's it. There's no need to extract it and install apk, as I already said, just flashing magisk zip via TWRP is enough on eu, not sure about other miui Roms.
Custom ROMs and magisk? Ezz easy bruh, all you've to do is to get the latest Magisk zip from magisk thread and flash it via TWRP. There's no need to extract it and install it separately on custom Roms. That's it.
Edit : nah, I didn't flash lazyflasher.zip on either eu or custom Roms. Just flash magisk and boot into system.
if you using official miui rom and using official twrp, you must flash lazyflasher, otherwise you cannot boot into system.

Thank you very much for you quick response :good:, I will do what you suggest , and i will report results.
The method would be the same as flashing Havoc OS.
- Boot into TWRP (hold power + volume up)
- Wipe Data, Cache and Dalvik (I also wipe system, but it's not always mentionned to do so)
- Flash the latest firmware https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/#stable (optionnal, you should already have a good enough firmware since you had Miui 10 before)
- Flash the ZIP file of the Nougat ROM of your choice
- Flash GApps
- Reboot phone
After that if you wish you can flash Magisk for root and other Kernels.

This post is an experiment to compare the work on top of MIUI 12 instead of 12.5. In theory, this should improve encryption work and fix troubles with recovery later installing FBEv2 or dynamic parts.
1. Flash Ofox FBEv1. link
2. Format data. Wipes System, Vendor, Cache, Data. Reboot to recovery.
If stuck on fastboot, need flash vbmeta
fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
3. Open Ofox -> Settings -> Install addon reset to defaults
Open OTA & ROM, off Aggresive stock recovery deactivation
4. Flash MIUI 12.0.2.0 CN. link
5. Flash Ofox FBEv1.
6. Install MiRoom 12. link
Format Data and reboot
If all work can continue, reboot to Ofox
7. Instal LOS 19 by Abhishek. link
8. Now can install ur ROM without firmware A11
