Disable the GPS notification in the notification bar - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi,
as soon as I'm running any program like google maps, waze or other SW using the GPS I get an "icon" in the status-bar telling me the obvious (that positioning is on). The Mate 20 PRO's large screen Notch does not make room for taking up space with that kind of unnecessary "information".
I tried to turn this status indicator off but failed miserably.
Is there any way this can be done?

System UI Tuner is probably the easiest option - I have it hiding the Bluetooth, NFC, and alarm icons, but it can do GPS as well.
If you can't use ADB you can use this method to hide a few of the icons, but GPS isn't one of them. Nova launcher can also create the shortcut for you.

I'm running Nova, which shortcut is it I can create with it?

Thanks, have installed it now. Strangely enough I do not seem to be able to get it hiding my bluetooth icon.

Now i have 2.2, i really want to make the most of it
some things i cannot find?
- still no notifications of new sms/mms when streak is off. Streakled only flashes the icons on the right and then it's all black again. This is
the biggest problem off them all. I still cannot understand why this important one is not solved yet.
Possible solution : your streak has to be rooted...install ledstreak...some extra notes thanks to Bizzach
A couple of items on your first point.... I use Streak LED and it works perfectly for me, so that you're notified when SMS's come thru.
If you're rooted, you need to turn off notifications in Superuser Permissions. Then the Streak LED light will stay on after they come on for a second. Also, if you're using Handcent as your messaging client, uncheck the box in settings for 'disable screen on' (or something to that effect).
It's so nice being able to just glance at the phone with the screen off and tell if you have a message waiting that you didn't hear. And yes, I agree, this is the biggest thing that Dell missed putting nativly into the Streak.
more info: you still cannot see your missed calls, just your missed sms/mms.
- i want differend wallpapers in differend screens, love to scroll trough my sexy wife pics on every screen
Possible solution : but still not perfect : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824010
- on 1.6 i had a shortcut to view a red and green bar on top of the screen to view the processor working..cannot find it anymore now?
I downloaded SeePU from the market..it give 2 small bars in the top bar so you can see your network and cpu usage.
- i like as many icons on my screens as possible..launcher pro gives me 5 vertically but the spacing between the icons horizontally is way to much (landscape mode)..can i change it?
Solution : works with launcher pro plus
- the minimum brightness is still to bright to brows at night in bed..anyone an idea how to get it even darker?
possible solution but not ideal : adjbrightness ..but it has no widget to change it fast.
- in 1.6 i had perfect backgrounds, in 2.2 they all are croped and horrible resolution?
possible solution : wallstreak but still i have a grey vertical small band between the differend screen pages when scrolling.
- To many connections issue in stock webbrowser and others.
Fixed : latest update from dell
- google maps has problems showing the map..map on screen freezes.
No solutions yet ...maybe have to wait for updateUpdate : i deleted the last update and now ik works perfect again.
- My dell streak is getting really slow
Solution : install systempanel..so you can stop apps that are eating up resources. it also has a widget you can put on your desktop that kills all the background or
active running apps. You have to exclude some apps in systempanel itself so they don't stop working after you hit stop all...like any alarm apps or dedicated apps that have to be running all the time. So hit the kill all icon and it is all running smooth again.
- wifi is less strong in 2.2 then in 1.6.
No solution yet..maybe someone knows how to tweak this
- No dedicated fm radio app.
- still no dedicated dock for just charging.
- voice dialing crashes all the time
- can't lock orientation to portrait, even with other launchers
- temperature settings on screen seem to be set all skewed... after being in pocket, have to wait for screen to cool before I can slide or pattern unlock phone
- voice features don't work properly for google search or Swype if there is ANY noise nearby, even in near total quiet. seems Dell broke the voice function.
- swype behaves extremely poorly. very not impressed with its function. normally swype performs so much better. I will attribute this to Dell as they've done something to the functionality of the touch screen.
Possibel workaround : I'm running slide-it and it's running perfectly
- seemingly no ability to assign different notification sounds to the varied TYPES of notifications (i.e. SMS, Email, Gmail). they all have to use the same sound.
Solution thanks Rodjordan :can't you set them within each app. I changed the settings in gmail & handcent individually.
-No toggle app works fully for 3g. I always have to turn it on in the settings and after turned on, I can kill 3g for a few seconds with a toggle app, but it will come up by itself again.
- no exchange connection
solution : delete default policy on exchange, synch, create default policy again.
- i miss the icon in the top bar that shows when i'm toggle gps on and off.
- anyone know how to switch between keyboards? Settings just allows modifications to both keyboards; no way to select one.
Thanks to msgnyc :longpress into any textfield and choose input method. Choose your desired input method
- always going in portrait mode after working in landscape and viewing video on stock videoplayer of youtubeplayer?
please share your solutions I will update when i find them.

I have set my Launcher Pro to landscape and set it to 8x6 (so that´s 46 icons if you dont use widgets).
It´s in Preferences - Homescreen Settings - Number of columns (and rows).
I´ve unchecked "Auto-fit Items" and "5 Icon rwos in homescreens".

it only works for the app drawer not for the homescreens.
I only have 3 options in homescreen settings and it's all about how many screens i want..nothing to choose for rows or colums.
like he says it is to be found in Launcher Pro.. try reading a bit.. it helps..

this reads more like a bug list so here are mine:
1. wifi has a weaker signal
2. voice dialing crashes all the time
3. can't lock orientation to portrait, even with other launchers
4. temperature settings on screen seem to be set all skewed... after being in pocket, have to wait for screen to cool before I can slide or pattern unlock phone

btw..pm me if you have found a solution for the above problems..i will add it.
Had two problems, just fixed one:
No Exchange connection: delete default policy on exchange, synch, create default policy again.
Found no solution for the following behavior:
No toggle app works fully for 3g. I always have to turn it on in the settings and after turned on, I can kill 3g for a few seconds with a toggle app, but it will come up by itself again..
Any ideas?

*with ADW you can get upto an 8x8 icon grid for the homescreen. ADW is free unlike LP+
*ADW you can lock the homescreen to portrait mode by selecting portrait orientation and system pesistant
*Official 2.2 came with an Radio app. "TuneIN Radio" but no actual manual tuning tho.

The tuneIn radio app just streams radio, like so many others...the streak has a fm radio module inside so it has to work without streaming. Or am i wrong
Nope, you´re right. With Android 2.1 and root there was an Streak-fm-radio-app on modaco which worked fine for me. It doesn´t work on 1.6 and I don´t know how about 2.2.

Ahh, i got you. Didnt even know the Streak had a built in FM module
I just took the dive and installed the stock 2.2 ROM. I'm not going back to 1.6 but this thing has some issues:
- Anyone know where I can get the numeric battery level?
- *#*#307#*#* fails with something about "PASSPORT on SD" error.
- I was hoping this ROM would fix my Parrot CK3300 pairing issue but it did not.
- anyone know how to switch between keyboards? Settings just allows modifications to both keyboards; no way to select one.
- In 1.6 there was a setting to keep the backlight on when plugged in. Can't find it here.
- I don't necessarily want my favorites in alphabetical order. Anyone know how to reorder the contacts in the contacts stage UI widget?

[Q] Hide notification bar

I am running my application on a Viewsonic G Tablet. The application is marked to run full screen in the manifest, and it does so. However the notification bar is still displayed and overlayed on my view (this is not the standard Android behavior). Unfortunately, if I have any controls that are underneath the controls on the notification bar, the user is not able to access them. How do I turn the bar off. I notice that some apps (e.g. Angry Birds) display full screen without the bar.
Thanks.
I've been able to do it using the Zeam Launcher. Under action bindings set double tap to toggle the fullscreen.
Pretty much every non-stock browser has the option to hide the status bar. I recommend VTL launcher for tablets and zeam for phones.

I guess I am a little confused. You both talk about launchers, but I am not sure what you are referring to. Is this something the user can do to remove the status bar by using a particular launcher? If so, that is not what I am asking. I am the developer of the app in question, and I want to set it up so that it automatically runs full screen without a status bar. This seems to be possible, because there are apps which do that (e.g. Angry Birds).
Thanks
Ah, I see. Maybe another app developer could chime in because this is way above my knowledge.

Are you by chance running CM7 or Vegan Ginger?
These have an option (part of the Mad-Murdock Tablet Tweaks) to override the 'full screen' request by apps and keep the status bar available. This is due to some tablets not having hardware buttons (and on the G-tab, they are hard to see in the dark, etc).
If this is the case, you will not be able to over-ride that. It's specifically a user-option.
If you are not on one of those ROMs, then I can't help

[Q] Mystery Icon in notification bar

I've turned off all of the location services in settings, but my notification bar still has an icon that looks like the GPS is still on. It's a circle with a cross in it and arrows at the cardinal directions. I've even turned GPS off using the power control widget, but it's still there. Anyone know what this and how to get rid of it?

XDA Navigation Gestures App

Hi, has anyone tried a new application by XDA? What are your thoughts?
Google Play link - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xda.nobar
my navigation bar does not hide...
I'm trying it right now. And it's not too bad. Only complaint is you can't change the transparency so that small bar will always be there. But you can change the size and make it really small so it won't be that noticeable.
So far, it seems like a good alternative to All in One Gestures. Will update on battery life later.

It works pretty well for the most part, though on apps where they are black you can see a white line on the very bottom of the screen. Which is kinda annoying.

If you want hide the stock navigation bar, I find a workaround using immersive mode. You can enable it in nogaut too using an app called "SystemUI Tuner" and giving to it adb permission through a pc (so without root).
I don't like too much this gesture so i return to stock, but if you want this work.

Don't know why but it doesn't ask for root permission (needed in order to hide the navbar), so you need the adb commands, for the rest it works pretty well.

For hide the navbar you can switch the app proportion for the 18: 9 and set the permissions again. After this, turn off the gestures and turn on. If this not work, restart the phone. For me it works.

Can't find the scale option under lg g6 with 8.0.
There are some apps there but no navigation gestures.
I think with Android 7 I had the option. Now I can't find it any more. Can someone assist?
Or is it obsolete with Android 8 ?

Hello, when i'm trying to grant permission i only get :"Operation not allowed: java.lang.SecurityException: grantRuntimePermission: Neither user 2000 nor current process has android.permission.GRANT_RUNTIME_PERMISSIONS." what can i do pls ?
I have the porblem that if I open an app lets say, Instagram or Armorfly Browser, the white line at the bottom just dissapears. Then I was swiping up from the bottom to try and get it back or at least the nav bar, after a few tries, the nav bar and the white line for the gestures were showing and dissapearing all the time, it was like they were having a fight for who will stay at the bottom of my screen haha
Does anybody know a fix for that?

Missing icons?

After android 9 update from T-Mobile my s9+ no longer shows the clock icon over in the right side group of icons to tell me the clock is running in the background. This is kind of annoying because the clock was always very unreliable and I used to check that to make sure the clock was still going (I'm using the stock google clock app, not samsung's clock app). Is there some setting to make this come back? Is there any other way to tell the clock is still running?
Also I no longer get the icon telling me I'm on wifi calling from the phone app (though the setting for wifi preferred is still turned on in the app). I presume it is doing wifi calling anyway.
The clock icon is apparently the system alarm icon that says alarms are set. I found the UI tuner launcher app, and it shows the system alarm icon as being active, but no such icon appears in the status bar. Does the alarm clock app use some feature now that doesn't look like a system alarm any longer? Or is the system alarm icon just gone forever in android pie regardless of the UI tuner setting?

If you pull down on the notification panel, it shows at the bottom the wifi calling is active. Weird place to put it, but I guess they just want one software for all and are taking things away from good phones for the stupid pin/pill hole on the next worst thing.
