OK I know this issue has been seen before, let's figure out what's wrong.
I have an Honor 8X Max from China, model is ARE-AL00, was running 8.2. I unlocked the bootloader from https://global-unlocking-solutions.miiduu.com/bootloader-unlock-codes-choose-model-below, then installed TWRP from https://www.filehosting.org/file/details/764535/twrp-kirin.img according to THIS guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8x/how-to/guide-how-to-unlock-root-honor-8x-t3864348.
I AM AWARE that this version of TWRP was designed for Honor 8X and not 8X Max.
Phone worked fine but wouldn't flash Magisk or Supersu, gave me lots of red "Failed to mount" messages. Today the phone decided it was time for a firmware update and now it only boots into TWRP. If I go to Factory Reset from TWRP, I get the same "Failed to mount" errors.
I would like to get a global/English ROM, or even some kind of custom ROM working on here, if that is possible, but for the time being I am comfortable settling for just having the phone working again. Willing to wipe if necessary. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
It seems Huawei e-recovery came to the rescue and the device is working properly now... My data wasn't wiped, but I think TWRP is gone. Still, does anybody know what's going on with the "Failure to mount?" That seems to be the primary barrier for getting my phone rooted.
If you find out how to get this to work keep me posted I got the china 8x max with unlocked bootloader, did you try to manually mount system in settings? Also maybe it's pointing to the wrong mount route

I think if you install TWRP and try some of these diagnoses yourself you will probably make more progress than I, that being said, if and when I decide to install TWRP and try again I will let you know if I make any progress.
Nice to see someone else with the same model. I didn't have a clue what I was getting, I just wanted to a cheap phone with nice hardware.

I believe the problem is that the TWRP does not correspond to your device. Honor 8X uses Kirin chipset, whereas your Honor 8X max uses Snapdragon 636 (or 660 for the latest 6 GB RAM model). I understand that this is why it couldn't flash Magisk or Supersu. (I think it's lucky that you hadn't soft-bricked your device)

I took a gamble buying a Chinese phone redmi-note 2 but sadly! it hasn't worked out for me.
All I wanted from it, was for it to do what it is supposed to do.
Bluetooth
Bluetooth doesn't connect to any of my devices, car, Hi-fi and not even my nexus 7!
Miui updater
Totally useless on my phone. This app crashes every time I select "choose update package"
I have looked for help on YouTube but the majority of videos seem to be Indian, using Indian versions of software where the updater app seems to work perfectly.
I managed to root my nexus 7 with ease but the redmi-note 2 is a nightmare.
I could really do with some of you android guru's to point me in the right direction! in finding a good beginners guide to finding all the apps and suitable rom for my phone, Or better still.! A way to get Bluetooth to work.
First of all check if your device has official rom or custom (if you bought it from China it probably has custom rom so flash official one).
Mine is working very good...
I second what ibeqa said - you're probably running a crapware-loaded ROM. Crashing updater is a good hint. You could also look into "about phone" section for the MIUI version, if it's something like 9.99.99 then it's crapware. "Legit" ROMs have version 7.xx.yy or 6.xx.yy. The crapware ROMs are IMHO the main reason why Xiaomi decided to lock the bootloader on RN3 and other newer phones. Because obviously, those ROMs give them bad reputation even though it's not their fault.
Bluetooth works fine for me, but sometimes it hangs up forcing me to restart it - not optimal but doesn't happen too often.
As for rooting, rooting the Nexus 7 (2012) was the same as RN2 for me - connect to PC in fastboot mode, flash recovery.img, reboot to recovery and flash a custom ROM. There are enough guides out there. For the RN2, fastboot can be accessed by starting the phone with the volume down key pressed.
Agree with the above. Please re-flash using official ROM via fastboot method and then try again. See http://en.miui.com/a-234.html
Android version 5.02 LRX22G

I Have downloaded Update supersu 2.4 and miui HMNote2Global v7.2.2.0LHMMIDA_DA_d71ff21b81_5.0.zip are these correct please?
I installed CWM but have read that TWRP is the one I should be using! is that correct?
The trouble with the redmi 2 ,is there is too much conflicting information out there, making it very difficult for a newbie.
Is there any other things that I need to download?
This whole thing has really put me off the Xiaomi brand. I just expected bluetooth to work ! it is supposed to be standardised worldwide.
To you Guys it is probably fun to mess about with different roms, all I wanted was a working phone.
"MIUI Version 66.77.33.00" <- that's your problem right there. You reseller installed a crapware loaded ROM and has modified the version so that you never get an update (= he can spy on you forever), had you bought from another one, you would have gotten a working phone. I know mine did.
Putting blame on Xiaomi for this is misplaced, unless you want to blame them for being dev-friendly and leaving the bootloader unlocked. They reconsidered by now, though, their newer phones are locked.
In any case, yes TWRP is the way to go personally. CWM has cut important features like backup/restore (at least the version shipped with cyanogen roms I tried), so it's basically useless.
For the ROM, if you have downloaded it from the xiaomi page, then yes. You could also get the rom from xiaomi.eu if you want to use an European language.
If you just want official MIUI then you don't need to install custom recovery (use fastboot method instead as per official instructions). In fact the custom recovery will get removed next time you receive an OTA update.
Personally I use TWRP from this link http://en.miui.com/thread-224679-1-1.html because I wanted to install root. But only do this AFTER you install a clean ROM at the first place.

I bought the phone from Gearbest.EU and expected it to be direct from Xiaomi, as I have never had a problem with this company before.
I have had another go at installing a new rom with the Mi suite and also with the miui flash tool and am not getting anywhere with it. I can't even root the damned thing as it boots into Mi when pressing vol up and start. This happened with CWM and TWRP.
I have said before, that I have little experience with android and perhaps I am going wrong somewhere! or the tutorial posters are using phones that have totally different roms to mine. ,It is very difficult when you have Indian,Chinese and global versions with many variations of each, the same seems to apply to CWM and TWRP.
Is there a way to install this via windows, ie formatting the phone and running an installer direct from pc?
I had a dabble with Linux mint and Artist in the past and found them quite user friendly, I can't believe that android is Linux based! I could have done a fresh install of windows, several times by now,the amount of time I have spent on this. Of course windows truly is global with only a couple of variations . Format disk, run and your away. Then hours installing software.
I am fast getting to the stage where I shall give it a bounce test, from a great height. :crying:
Hi guys, so my new Redmi Note 3 Pro (3GB Ram/ 32Gb rom) came in the mail today. I was excited because I want to give this phone to my father and I know its a good phone since I have one myself, running CM13. However, my problem is that I am unable to access EDL mode . I did adb command to run "adb reboot edl" and it just restarted the phone. I even did the volume combination keys and I am still unable to access EDL mode. I went the extra mile to even unlock the bootloader officially so it should be at a good start right now as it is. I suddenly realized that I might have a vendor rom running on my new Redmi Note 3 Pro. I looked up everywhere on google and none of the tutorials help me get rid of the vendor rom to flash back to official rom. Many of the threads from MIUI havent helped me. I was hoping if anyone could help me revert back to stock MIUI, doesn't matter which (developer, stable, china developer, etc.) I have took some screenshots from the phone to show you what vendor rom I am currently running and plus some of the errors I have came across while trying to go back to stock MIUI. I have done the whole flashing and unlocking bootloader before so i know the process and im not afraid to take instructions. Any help guys, I would really appreciate it!
Edit: Yes, i have also disabled my signature drivers while doing all of this.

I have. It is like as if the phone came with no EDL partition or something. I don't think that's possible. But yes I have tried that method, it was fastboot v2. Not sure what version that one is but I believe they operated the same way.
I'm open to the idea of rooting the phone with this pre-installed Vendor Rom and from there I can wipe it and flash CM13 since my bootloader is already unlocked. However I'm not sure if there a case for rooting and installing TWRP on vendor roms for Redmi note 3
Transfer latest global rom on the phone and use updater to flash?

Yeah I've tried that /: apparently those who have a fake Rom (Vendor Rom) cannot update via OTA by the updater app
Its not adb reboot edl.
Search n download fastboot reboot edl zip in miui forum.
Reboot edl will work from fastboot.
You do not have the Snapdragon Redmi Note 3. You have the Mediatek version as evident from your screenshot saying the processor type as "Octa-Core". The EDL mode does not work on Mediatek devices, as far as I know. You can follow this guide for MediaTek devices.
It's the non-pro version with mediatek chipset
You have been fooled

Ok, so i'm stuck at an impass and am hoping someone can help me.
I have two types of Q-Box (S905). The 2/8 and the 2/16.
The 2/16 seems like a better version of the two, has 5Ghz wifi, etc. It boots to TWRP from an sdcard without issue.
The 2/8 is giving me nothing.
I'm thinking its something to do with the bootloader, but I'm just guessing as I've never had this issue before.
Any ideas guys?

I don't think there is a TWRP version for the 2/8gb version
So maybe you flashed the 2/16Gb recovery, however you able to.fix this with USB burning tool
I should rephrase.
The box works fine, but I can't get twrp.
So you may have answered my question ?
They'll have to stay as is then ?
Fix this with USB Burning Tool??? I don't get it.
Recovery is recovery as long as it is compatible. It isn't very big - 12mb-ish. It should be fine on 10GB or 1GB RAM model. I used 2GB x96 version on 1GB model I bought just to test before spending more on a better model - Txx or something.
I didn't like the look of those HDMI Android stick's when looking around... Looked too dodgy.

Just to be clear, I have both a stock box and I have one that I tried loading TWRP onto.
What exactly do you need?

"port a recovery", someone can explain it? mean custom recovery?
After unlocking bootloader and rooting, i tried installing xposed. App installed fine but after installing framework it just bootlooped on the huawei logo. Did factory reset via twrp, it booted fine, but not on the first try.
Then i did something even dumber: flashed custom rom. To be exact it was openkirin rom.
Worked without problem but i didn't like some things. Now comes the worst part: couldn't boot back to stock.
Flashed system, ramdisk and recovery but no dice.
Tried sdcard update with + - power combo. Says software install failed after 5%.
Even bought the bloody dc phoenix, flashed update but it just throws me in recovery. If i do factory reset, it stays at 0% for a long time. Last option would be to leave it overnight on factory resetting.
Any further insight in this problem would be helpful coz i'm running out of ideas.
I'm not an expert but if no one has any suggestions for you then Funky Huawei can fix this but it's quite an expensive solution.

ok, so a little update. seems like the site i tried to download firmware from had messed up the versions. flashed 121 version, got 161, and that one got me up and running but wifi is dead. doing looong factory reset. will update further.
site's name is huawei - firmware dot com, for anybody looking into downloading from them

those guys are expensive as heck! dc phoenix is much more decent with prices and you get better deal for your money if you find yourself go that route ofc
Two things:
Xposed v90 beta 4 is compatible with EMUI and a download link / discussion can be found here. Beta 3, which might still be the latest official version, will cause a bootloop. This should be stickied somewhere.
Getting back to stock can be a ****. I don't know if stock eRecovery might work now that official updates are available? Funky Huawei's eRecovery method works - but yeah, it's expensive. Their unbrick method does not work (or did not work for me), and I'm not sure if DC will work either.

in the end i managed to return to stock. and no swear words can describe the feeling of the whole process. i would rather have kidney stones again then restore my tablet again to stock.
and yeah, DC worked. flashed b121 version. it booted but no wifi or bluetooth. connected to hisuite and then updated to b181, latest version. now is the time to try xposed again when i still have some time with DC phoenix
Is your bootloader unlocked and OEM Unlocked via Device Settings? If so, I might be able to help you. PM me in this case.
I flashed by accident a Chinese Rom and messed up my system, was able to recover and flash stock.

So, about like a week ago, I made a post on XDA developers named "Well, I f**ked up. Badly.." and basically, this is what it contained.
Alright, here goes.
So one day I was interested in flashing a new custom ROM (Preferably LineageOS) to my Huawei Mate 10 Lite. Long story short, it's now soft bricked. Only TWRP is working.
But, that's not enough information. Here's the fully story.
After realizing I could not get the Bootloader unlock code using the official method, I've tried DCUnlocker. I paid, and got my code.
I've installed HiSuite, 274829 drivers and finally unlocked the Bootloader. Now, the phone said "This device is unlocked and can't be trusted", but it booted fine. YES!
After that, I downloaded LineageOS 15.1 and flashed it. Before flashing it, I formatted everything, wiped cashe, davlick ect... And.. made my biggest mistake.
Not making a nandroid backup (dammit).
Don't ask me why, I thought it would go well (ugh).
Anyways, I flashed it, error 7. Alright, removed the assert lines. Flashed it again, and it worked, but right at the end, another error? It was error 7, again, but a little different.
This time, it said "failed to mount /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/vendor at /vendor: device or resource busy"
Okay, now I'm starting to get worried. Like, REALLY WORRIED.
It also said it failed to execute a line in the updater script, one of the last lines. But I would not delete it, just in case.
When I tried to boot, nothing. Went back to Google.
At this point, I learned that any Treble ROM will NOT work with Android version of 7.1. shhhiiii
I was on EMUI 5.1 aka 7.0, and this was worrying. At this point, I tried to return to EMUI 5.1, but since there was no backup, well...... To Google we go!
I did not find any stock room that running EMUI 5.1, but only found EMUI 8.0. I did find a stock room on 7.1, but I'm not paying 15 dollars for it. Not about that life.
I tried the dload method, but apparently my sdcard is on FAT32, and because of that I cannot upload the UPDATE.APP to it.
I've also tried eRecovery, but to no avail. "Failed to get package".
So now I'm stuck on a couple of options, and I need help from you, the XDA community.
1) Remove the line that's causing the issue but at the cost of it maybe not working
2) Somehow format the sdcard and somehow upload the update.app to it
3) Somehow update Android's system to Project Treble, although not sure it's possible since there is no OS.
4) ?????????????????
Please, help me. I'm in hell right now.
Anyways, I've tried restoring the phone for 3 days straight to EMUI stock rom, so I could update it manually to Oreo 8.0 and THEN install LineageOS 15.1. However, I literally could not find ANY SINGLE ROM on planet earth for Huawei Mate 10 Lite, on EMUI 5.1. I was so desperate to fix the phone that I just gave up and installed Elemental which was based on EMUI 5.1. Sure, phone working great, but not what I wanted.
I wanted LineageOS 15.1, not a rom based on EMUI. So, my question is, how do I update it to 8.0?
In the post, people suggested to manually flash the stock rom (8.0), but I couldn't find the stock rom. Also, yes, I tried TeamMT's site, xml tree not working blah blah blah site's dead.
So, what do I do?
Here's the link to the post, if anybody wants to read the replies
