I have this problem when I game that if I leave the game to check a message or something and go back to it(without closing the app I'm playing on) I start to get really low fps even though I'd have 2gb of ram free.

My handset (stock Vodafone) will hang/freeze when gaming. Sort of. If I enable in-game sounds, it's almost guaranteed that within a few minutes, the display will freeze. Game music continues to play.
The handset is still somewhat responsive, though if I hold the home button to bring up task manager, it can take between a couple of seconds and 10+ seconds for the window to display.
When I manage to get through to task manager, the game task shows 80%+ CPU usage. I'm able to kill the task and the handset is usable again.
This happens in every game and I've seen comments against certain games on the app store mentioning hangs/freezing/crashing on the SGS2.
If I disable sounds, the problem never occurs. I can even enable in-game music, just not sound effects.
I'm left wondering if there is a common handset fault, a software/OS fault, if maybe I just have a singularly faulty unit or if it's a whole lot of game developers using some common sound handling code that doesn't play well with the SGS2.
Has anyone else experience of this? I've tried Googling and I have tried searching this forum, to no avail.
Thanks.
You should post the names of the games you are playing. I didn't encounter any game that should freeze or hang because of sound.
Yes i too have been having this problem, and like you said, if you turn off sound in game, the game works fine. I have google'd it and a game developer has said that it may have something to do with the S2 sound system causing instabilities.
Some games which are notorious for me is robo defence and guns n glory, cut the rope also freezes when i turn the taps in the game.
Again turning off sound does allow game to be playable, but who wants to play games with no sounds. Trying to get on the phone with samsung if they know anything about it. Is anybody else having these problems 2? or can someone test playing these games.
I'm also having the same problem.. Coincidentally I also bought my handset from Vodafone.
Could this be related to Vodafone only firmware? :/
SGS II Freezing
My Galaxy S2 freezes when i play the game Cut the rope. the music remains playing. when i checked the RAM usage the game was using upto 55% ram.
This seems to be an issue with SoundPool on dual-core devices. Google is aware of the issue : http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=17623
As the offending API has been identified, I believe we can expect to see a patch soon. Vote on the issue to help prioritize it.
galaxy s2 freeze
I've been havin the same problem with a game called fly boy and sometimes on google earth. google maps navigation and lattitude are fine and all other games are fine so far. I've noticed my cpu jumps about a lot even in stand by/idle mode. any ideas?

and i dont know what is the main problem every game lagging too much trail extreme 3 , subway surfer little lag.
task manager showing high usage of memory but cant find the app which using it because there is no app running
It ran smooth on my phone (p-765 v10d non-roooted). Played couple of games online too, lag free. Go to app settings and try to find out which process is taking more ram. Make sure unnecessary apps don b running in background. If u wan more free ram u better get rooted, after rooting i have nearly 450mb ram free. This device can handle most hd games i have tried most, u can see videos on youtube too!! SO WHY DON U TRY RE-INSTALLING THE GAME?

alright now i have factory reset it and installed trial extreme 3 still lags in game when showing all map and in gameplay sudden lag while driver is moving if anyone facing this problem in this game pls tell
When this device can run high end games like modern combat 4, nfs mw smoothly, its highly unbelievable to see that u are getting lags, try to free ram then try running the games. If the problem still persists then its better u get it checked by LG care. 1gb ram, powervr sgx540, i read these specs are better than s2
ok now i have checked some other games but still games lag. before i was having galaxy R(tegra 2) device in that some games are not supported but still what i play it play so smoothly but now in l9 it seems like games are supported but not playable. do i have to root it to get some more free ram ? will it help me to play games more smoother ?
bro plz post a screenshot of running apps...... if u have any antivirus, thn tat may be a problem (anyway i have rooted my device)
Odp: urgent help
Try changing governor to hotplug. But it doesn't sound good.
Edit: I played Deadzone on ultra high and it was smooth.

Is this device not capable of multi-tasking graphics intense games due to only having 1gb of ram? I'm playing dead trigger with no other apps open in background, an incoming call comes in so I answer it, end call, now dead trigger restarts itself so all gameplay before the incoming call is never saved so basically wasted all that time playing the game due to an incoming call.
Seems to be this way with graphics intense games. Sad too since this device was advertised as a GAMING DEVICE with the tegra 3 chip and all. I mean my dang iPhone 4 could multi-task dead trigger and incoming calls with half the ram, why not this device?
Sad if I have to play games with airplane mode on to not get any incoming calls to interfere with my gaming. Just really disappointed on this device overall with this lack of multi-tasking. Almost makes the device useless in terms of mobile gaming. What's the use if all it takes is an incoming call to ruin your gaming progress???

Well, I haven't played that game, but on asphalt 7 and 8, which are fairly cpu/gpu intense games(and not particularly optimized for the tegra). When I get a call it pauses the game and switches to the call, so when I hang up I just have to unpause the game and continue. Also works on the other games I have played, so maybe it's just something weird with dead trigger?
Only time I've seen what you describe is when I've been on the call for a very long time and the default timeout to kill a background app kicks in.
I haved same problems on my galaxy s2, s3, and now same problem with laging on xperia z.
Then i go to developer options and tick force gpu rendering. App is now flying and there is no any lag.
Please can developers fix this bug and make the game smooth ?
Regarding the lags
I guess its not the problem with the app.
At normal usage, there is very less work for graphics and so it never comes into play but when you are playing a graphic intensive game, it needs a lot of graphics and the phone cannot render the gpu.
So when you enable force gpu rendering, it allocates more graphics support and also reduces the lags.
You can try clearing RAM and Used applications before playing games and also switch off internet.
Switching off internet reduces the advertisements on apps by which you can reduce some lagging.
Hope it helps and it works.
So, i rrecently received my Tab S7 Plus. Mainly for watching anime and playing games. Watching anime is perfect, but when i play games the fps doesn't get higher than
40-48 fps.
This happens while playing Genshin Impact, Cod Mobile and Pubg Mobile. Haven't played any other games.
This is annoying as feck.
So my question is, does anyone else have this problem too? Of so have you fixed it?
You may have enabled 48hz mode in game booster. Game booster plus also have fps limit settings. And Genshin Impact just runs at 40-45 fps most of the time because of bad optimization.

Can you tell me where that option may be? Cus I can't find it
Go to Settings > Apps, touch three dots > Show System Apps, enter search Game Booster, touch a gear icon.
