Micro SD card - A2 vs U3? - Huawei MediaPad M5 Questions & Answers

I'd like to buy an micro sd card for my Mediapad m5 10, but can't decide between class A2 (suited for apps) or U3 (suited to media).
As the m5 can't store apps on the sd card (just media), is there any benefit of going for a a2 card considering the media performance is lower than a u3 card?

Good question.
I just bought SanDisk Extreme Pro, it is A2 and U3 card. I plan to have a linux file system on the card, so I tried to get the fastest I could.
Also in my previous card when forwarding 10 second in a download tv show on Netflix I could notice a delay (of 1 or 2 seconds), I hope with this card I don't have any delay at all.

Cool... Didn't know you could get cards that are both a2 and u3. I suppose that means cards rated as u3 only don't have the high IOPs speed as A2 cards.

have a look here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07G3H5RBT
I had before a sdcard from from samsung evo plus U1, and I will change today to this new one. If you want I can post a benchmark between the two.
I hope to be much faster then the previous

SanDisk Ultra 32 GB MicroSDHC Class 10 UHS-1 Memory Card?

Amazon and Best Buy currently have the "SanDisk Ultra 32 GB MicroSDHC Class 10 UHS-1 Memory Card" for $20 and was wondering if this would a good card for rooting and running JB on the Nook Tablet (16GB)?

According to the user submitted CrystalDisk Mark benchmark scores, that card should be excellent. And that's a really good value as well. Myself, I'm waiting for cheaper price on the 64GB MicroSD.

Class 10 SD cards don't work as well as class 4 or 6 with custom ROMs for Nook. Depends if you want to internally flash or use an SDC version.

The newer SanDisk UH1 cards are an exception to rule. They have excellent small-block random write speeds. (A link to CrystalDiskMark scores may be found at iamafanof.wordpress.com) My son's been running CM10.1 from an external SanDisk 64GB microSD card for over a month and hasn't had any problem with racing-car games from the PlayStore.
I've been using that card for the last 4 months. Haven't had a problem yet, it's blazing fast for media I put on it. Despite having over 5,000 epubs and pdfs, over 5,000 pictures and over 100 videos sent from phones. I install apps onto the internal though. So haven't tested any of that.

How many are using a 64 GB micro SD card?

I know that the HAM2 officially only supports 32 GB micro SD cards; however the PC Mag reviewer successfully used a 64 GB micro SD card and I believe at least 1 Amazon reviewer was using a 64 GB micro SD card. I ordered a class 4 SanDisk 32 GB when I placed my phone order on Amazon. (I, like many others, had bad luck trying to use a class 10 card with a tablet so I'm steering clear of using class 10 cards in anything other than cameras.) If any one on this forum is successfully using a 64 GB card, could you indicate the brand and class of the card. As the holidays approach and sales start, I may keep my eyes open if others are having luck using a 64 GB card on a daily basis. TIA,
I've been using a lexar 64gb class 10 from walmart, works in my Mate and Mate2.

Good to know. I was doing some searching and found that SanDisk has compatibility info out on the HAM2 indicating that it's compatible not just with it's 64 GB micro SD cards but with it's new 128 GB micro SD card.

There's a member on another forum testing the SanDisk 128 GB card in his Galaxy S5, since so many people have had data losses with high capacity cards. He loaded his new 128 GB card til it was almost full is and working it hard to see if it gets corrupted. I will probably keep reading his updates. The 128 GB card is expensive, but Amazon had it on sale for almost 50 per cent off.

Ive has bad luck with cheap cards corrupting data on me. I've learnt you get what you pay for. I got it from Walmart, if it didn't work or got corrupted I could always return it.
Honestly, although device manufacturers might recommend up to a 32GB MicroSD card, if the device is running Android 4.2 or higher it should support 64GB and beyond with no issues.
I'm using a Transcend Class 10 32GB card in my HAM2 at the moment, but I think I might get a 64GB or 128GB card. Although I love Google Music's online storage a lot, my T-Mobile signal isn't good enough when I'm out in the country to reliably stream music. Having a huge SD card to keep it all on is sooo nice.
And the fact that the build of Jelly Bean on the HAM2 allows apps and games to be moved to the SD card makes it even sweeter.....

Until we can root, stock jelly bean limits external SD storage to data, not the apps themselves. Once rooted, there are some options to move apps to external SD cards, but they can be problematic; however, many people use them.

Ummm... Google re-added the ability for lots of devices in 4.3, and it doesn't require root. You can, in fact, move many apps to the SD card with the stock Jelly Bean on your HAM2.

Good to know. That makes me more inclined to consider getting a larger micro SD card during the upcoming holiday sales. I'm waiting for my phone to arrive and hope it get's here by Tuesday, as Amazon has promised.
I'm using an AU 64GB Class 6 microsd manufactured by SanDisk, works great in the HAM2, but seemingly only when formatted to FAT32?

I'm using a Sandisk 64GB card myself and have had no problems with it. My old Galaxy S2X used to hate the higher capacity card, but it's been flawless with my Mate 2.
me using sandisk 64gb without issues gr8 device I want root and cyanogen
without the screen protector touch feels like baby skin ...it has at least twice the screen on time than my nexus 5 which I retired forcefully after my mate 2

[Q] Maximum support size 64 or 128gb micro sd?

Hello,
As the title asks. Does anyone know if a 128 gb micro SD card will work in the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact? I ask because I know that usually, the limit these machines can handle is 64gb. And if so, does anyone use a 128GB card, and which one would you suggest? Many thanks for your time in reading this post and answering.

According to Sony spec. it supports up to 128 GB SDXC. Unfortunately I did not double check on my device.
Yes 128 works good on this baby
do you know if it supports uha-1 speeds?
Yes, i have 128gb class 10 and it works a charm.
I think your question is UHS1 OR 3 etc...
Mine is class 10 UHS1 and it is ok.
Any class 10 should be good enough, and if it has UHS rating, it is faster than those without UHS classification.
FYI, mine is Sandisk ultra.
Guys don't ever get sandisk ultra 64gb. I had 3 of their cards which was purchased at the same time and unfortunately it failed. The issue is rampant on their 64gb ultra (google Sandisk ultra cannot delete files). My micro sd suddenly became a read only device. Files are intact but i cant modify contents which means i cannot do format erase and anything. Practically it became a useless card. Already did windows low level format, tried to check drive permissions and it was not set in read only, no virus. The writting controller chip just broke down. for those who are planning to buy a card and have their cameras and their 4K vids automatically save in the sd card, then don't buy sandisk (at least The 64gb ultra). It seems their cards can't take much writing before it breaks

It's a shame you can't move any apps to the SD card, I have the LTE version and 16GB isn't enough space when you have a few games installed.

Need help with SD cards

I want to buy a Micro SD card for my Z2. I know that the Z2 supports Micro SD cards up to 128 gb. But Sandisk has a 200 gb Micro SD card, and will it work with Z2? And does Z2 support UHS? I want the largest storage place and the fastest speed.

I have a UHS 1, 64GB SD card by SanDisk (I know it isn't the 200 like you asked) and that works quite well.
I'm sure you have looked into SD card speeds (or have knowledge about them), but if you don't the UHS class 3 is the fastest.
I'm guessing to be able to use the 200GB one you would have to partition it, however I aren't entirely sure.

My SD card works perfectly at UHS 1, no random unmounting problems or anything. I've attached a quick benchmark of the read/write speeds on it.

I have a Samsung 128GB EVO SD Card, which is UHS Class 1 and it works very well indeed, I will also attach a benchmark for your reading pleasure :good:
P.S: I should add that my Xperia Z2 still thinks that using the SDCard (Internal) is better for 4K camera than the external SDCard1 (Samsung EVO), assuming the internal is much faster as it is on-board chip.
UHS-1 or Class 10, are very similar with write speeds on Z2. I have tested UHS-1 and UHS-3 cards, the difference is about 12mb/s in write speeds on Z2!!!!
I have UHS-3 and I record 4K video directly on SD without any delay in saving, reading or writing! The inbuilt 16GB as well as my Sony UHS-3 card have same speeds in writing.

As previously stated 128GB
I am using a Sony branded 64gb. I had a PNY 64gb and it had problems in this phone and two others. So I am staying away from PNY from now on.
I saw that there are 256gb micro sd cards. Is it fake or it can be real?
Yep and they only have up to 200GB
http://www.sandisk.com/products/memory-cards/microsd/ultra-premium-edition/
I have a sandisk 128 gb cx class 10 in my z2 and all works flawless
I'm looking at a Samsung SD card from Amazon Canada. Most likely 128gb. The only reason I'm leaning toward Samsung is because they're water, dust, xray, magnet, shock, everything proof. And they have great reviews.
Every card of UHS-3 category is fine. Sony or Samsung or Strontium, all work well. Maximum writing speed on Z2 won't be more then 20mbps in any condition.

Meanwhile they're planing on releasing 512GB

So does the phone really support UHS - Class 3?
I have this sd card on xperia z2 but for some odd reason its causing the phone to reboot. I don't know if its the sd card issue or the the phone. The phone wasn't able to write some of the data on it during my last tour during photographing. A lot of the stuff was corrupted. I came home and wrote stuff on it and everything is being written without a problem via those sd card usb adapters. Anyone know what might be going on?
Any card above UHS-1 is useless as Z2 won't be able to get read/write speeds on UHS-2 or higher.
However they will be useful if you frequently copy data from PC to card with a card reader.
Anyone tried 200/256 GB card?
GSMArena states that Z2 can support up to 256GB (info by them or Sony), but here You wrote that officially it's max 128.
Thinking about buying one, but it will be in a week or two, so maybe someone tried and can say it works or not before I will test it by myself?

MicroSD support

Hey all.
Just ordered Huawei Mate 10 (non pro) and I want to put an 128 GB SD card in as internal storage from start. Now I would like to have fastest memory supported, tried Googleing around, but I can't find any answer...
Does the Mate 10 support MicroSD UHS-II cards?
Hope somebody knows, it has double the price over UHS-I cards, so would really like to know before ordering
Kind regards from Thomas

Maybe a bit out of the topic, but if you're speaking about adoptable storage, the most important factor is IOPS. And here more important can be the A1 rating of the microsd card, than the UHS-II interface. The A1 kind of guarantees 500 random write ops/s and 1500 random read ops/s. Anyway, these numbers are very far away from the Mate 10's internal storage speed, where random write is up to 40000 ops/s and random read is up to 50000 ops/s. Thus, if not absolutely necessary, maybe its not a good idea to "merge" the memory card with the internal storage
Speaking of the UFS-II, sorry, idk if Mate 10 trully supports it.
No, it does not support UHS II bus cards. only UHS I. use A2 microsd cards for faster speeds...
