I recently got this problem, in addition to random reboots, boot loops, and random freezes.
I have tried multiple types of fixes, like:
-Wiping cache
-Wiping from factory(multiple times)
-Trying different configurations(MAC addresses, routers, etc)
-Even a Custom ROM(installed in desperation)
Does anyone know how to fix this? Because I am pretty sure it's software, but I can still send it to a store if it is the only way.
The phone heats up quite a bit when trying to do anything related to WIFI, and when I click on it the phone simply freezes and starts a boot loop shortly after.

My X8 is continuously crashing *randomly*. I clocked it a few times and it ran from one hour to four or less than five minutes and restarts. I have FroyoBread on my X8.
Things I already did-
1.I thought it was a virus so uninstalled most apps and removed SD card. Using xRecovery I even deleted cache and local files (includeing data reset).
2.Got rid of FroyoBread and flashed X8 ROM back onto the device. Same problem.
3.Got rid of Memory Card.
4.Reflashed. Installed FroyoBread again. Checked settings. This time, it started crashing once I tried to connect to the Internet.
5.Checked the forums already, people have similar problems, but no solutions.
Note: My phone ISN'T getting stuck at the load screen.
My phone IS ROOTED.
I DID try UNROOTING. The problem still persists.
This IS ALL the info I can provide.
Please help!!!!
try to get back to 2.1 eclair and connect phone to pc companion and then try to renew your system(either upgrade or fixing)
I got exactly the same problem. Here is what I experienced:
For the last 6 month I was running Floyo and Froyobread without any problems.
I changed to GingerDX for 2.3 also without any problems until about two weeks ago.
First I got random reboots when I switched on Mobile Data Connection. This seemed to be somehow connected to low signal strength when switching on Mobile Data Connection. Sometimes it would work without any problems, sometimes it would reboot.
When I got a random reboot, I got stuck a kind of loop. The phone would reboot normaly but as soon as it reestablishes a Data Connection crash again. So the only way to stop it was to shut down Data Connection immediately after boot.
This got gradually worse so I changed to KuyaDROID. To try and fix a posssibly ROM based problem.
But it got even worse. Now the phone would crash every time Radio Signal was established (a couple of seconds after boot), rendering the phone totally useless.
I unrooted, reflashed Stock 2.1 with SEUS, formated SD-card. Rerooted. Now, it's actually more stable than with Custom ROMs but I still get random reboots. In the last 2h my phone rebooted 3 times while I had Mobile Data Connection switched on, however, not instantly but after a couple of minutes. And once while on standby.
I tried to get some kind of error log, but sofar I only found the catlog and was not able to retrieve any information from before a random reboot.
The only other thing I noticed was that the battery level drops massively after each random reboot. Usually between 8-15%.
So I'm guessing either something related to Radio Signal / Data Conenction is broke, or there is a problem with my battery. Only I dont know if battery problems could lead to random reboots.
And just to clarify. With Random Reboots I mean the screen goes black instantly followed by an automatic reboot.
I will unrooted and reflashed Stock 2.1 with SEUS again to see if w/o root/superuser the problem still persists and if yes, try and return my phone.
If anyone got any other suggestions I would be happy to hear them..
Any news about this particular issue? I've seen many X8 "random reboots" posts and threads, but this one describes my particular problem pretty accurately. It only happens on low signal strength when the Mobile Data Connection is running.
I'm on stock kernel and this happened with the Stock ROM, FroyoBread, GingerDX and now FroyoPro. I've been hesitant to use a custom kernel since I've also read about complains of "random reboots" on custom kernels.
As stated above the reboots are random and if they happen it's only on a low signal mobile data connection. Any hints? TIA!
Same Problem..!
Same case with me...
+Random Reboot when enabeling data connection especially 2G connection (automaticly swiched when signal strength is LOW) But not on STANDBY:
when browsing pages full of pic's , downloading pic's or browsing normaly and listning to music at the same time. The phenomenon is more frequent
I deduced that it was a RAM overload as if it has no RAM space to run normaly..
And so, before browsing using data connection on 2G Mode I try to to free the most possible the RAM, and there the problem is less frequent but still exist.
On data connection 3G mod (HSDPA) Problem is less frequent alsow.
When I bot the phone it has Eclair the problem started after 2 mounths from its first START, later on I installed tow versions of Gingerbred, on the first, the problem got wors and the second was as good as Eclair but I didn't like it (However it is so so so stabel),so I am back to the Stock one !
The problem is Stabeled but not fixed.
So, COSTUME ROM isn't the cause but they are more or less involved
My experience:
+Choose a Stabel ROM (point of veiw Data Con.) I choosed Eclair but there is some good COSTUME ROM's
+Free the most possible RAM space before starting 2G/3G data Con.
+Use needed WEB app('s) only to lower the load on the RAM and the Connection
+Try to avoid 2G (EDGE or GPRS) or low Signal on 3G(HSDPA) Connections espacialy pic's and videos..
SOLVED!!!
I had the same random reboots in my x8, even using different ROMS, even different kernels. :S
Take a look at THIS THREAD to solve this issue
NOTE: some CUSTOM KERNELS may cause reboots/crashing.
Thanks mate, it works.:good:
My SGS2 (original AT&T version) has started rebooting randomly once every 3 or so days. It doesn't appear to be triggered by any single thing or event. The last time it happened was when I was opening the Market. The device rebooted back to the Samsung Galaxy S II boot screen.
I've been pretty careful with the phone (only installed trustworthy looking apps, etc). The phone never rebooted in the first 30 days of ownership. Sometime after that it started rebooting with increasing frequency.
Has anyone else run into this problem?
I also had this issue. I returned my phone for another one. I havent had the issue on the new phone but I am crossing my fingers that it doesnt start doing it again on this new device.
Thanks for the input. I had an Atrix that also exhibited this problem after 3 weeks of use. Based on the similarities, I figured it must be something in common on both devices.
At first I tried removing the microSD card I had installed (same one I used in both devices). I still had reboot issues after removing the microSD so it probably wasn't the source of the problems.
I finally realized it was the Dolphin HD browser that was always 'involved' in the reboots. I noticed that I could sometimes trigger a reboot by exiting the browser. The device would stop responding and then reboot after a small timeout. Sometimes the reboots would happen after opening another app, but it was always preceded by exiting Dolphin HD.
I found a thread in the international SGS2 forums that talks about this issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321612. It seems that it doesn't affect everyone, so it may be just be some combination of settings / installed apps that triggers the reboots.
For now I've uninstalled Dolphin HD and am using the stock browser. I'm going to use the stock browser for a while and see if removing Dolphin HD fixes the issues.
EDIT: To clarify, this only appears to happen if I 'Exit' the browser. Leaving it running in the background doesn't appear to cause reboot issues, which may be why I didn't run into this issue until now.
That looks really strange, dolphin never gave me any issues. However you can try using opera browser that is my main browser and supports all the features.
Soft reboot (back to bootanimation/homescreen) or hard reboot (back to Samsung screen)?

It automatically reboots back to the Samsung Galaxy S II screen. It then proceeds to go through the AT&T boot animation and finally ends up at the home screen. I assume this would mean it's a hard reboot?
I haven't had any reboot issues since I uninstalled Dolphin HD. I'm not sure if it's truly caused by Dolphin so I'm going to try a few more days without Dolphin before reinstalling it.
As a side note, I noticed some other issues which may or may not be related. These occur even with Dolphin uninstalled.
- Menu button sometimes not responding on the homescreen unless I go to 'Applications' and go back to the homescreen. Once I enter / exit the Applications screen the homescreen menu button will work again. Issue seems to be related to enabling/disabling the GPS from the notification bar, but I haven't reliably reproduced the issue.
- GPS not locking for long periods of time, even though it shows 6+ satellites in view. Sometimes it will lock within 10 seconds. My guess is some sort of AGPS download problem (maybe related to how supl is set to use wap.cingular?). A quick search on Google reveals a number of people suffering the same issue on the AT&T SGS2. All posts also indicate that it worked fine for 5+ weeks before GPS issues started to show up.
I'm trying to hold off on resetting my device back to factory defaults. I want to track down the problem instead of just assuming it was some bug that won't happen again. Based on the international forum posts, the Dolphin HD issue will come back eventually even with a reset.
Thanks again for all the input and help!
Yup that's a hard reboot. An app shouldn't be able to cause a hard reboot like this, but it is not possible to debug. Stock kernels don't have ramconsole for crash debugging.
So after playing with voltages for awhile, I went a little too far down and got crash, no big deal it's happened before, but now my wifi is extremely broken. Tried about three different roms, did a full internal sd wipe, tried flashing radios, nothing works. Any ideas?
Oh and I can still see the available networks, it just loops on obtaining ip address.
Hi,
I'm looking for some general advice and troubleshooting for my phone's issues. My phone started crashing very often, sometimes at complete random, as well as when I was using it fairly heavily (any app that froze my phone for a second before loading before the crashing would now crash my phone). Sometimes it would reboot fine, other times it would bootloop once or twice before reloading fine. I previously tried doing a factory reset, removing my external microSD card, and updating everything via Kies and nothing worked.
I got bored and rooted my phone, did a full wipe, and flashed the latest Infamous update. The problem was still there but it wouldn't crash as often while using it because my phone could handle higher app activity but it's still there. Oddly enough, after flashing Infamous, it often fails to reboot and so I have to do a battery pull before turning it back on, otherwise it won't even vibrate after holding the power button.
I'm just wondering if you guys have any idea what the issue could be. Is it likely still something I can fix? Is this potentially a battery issue or is it a hardware issue?
Thanks so much!

So when your phone have become unstable , in what condition it was ? did you ever flash it before ... so my s2x did the same thing afer a update with odin on 4.2 ... so i have reflashed it and evrything was working good after
I rooted my phone a month or two ago using odin and TWRP recovery, and I also flashed a new rom (Resurrection Remix 6.0.1). I have since had constant issues with my bluetooth headphones, which are the only bluetooth device i use with this phone. I have searched online and looked at many forums but I couldn't find very much information to help me. My issue is that there are random times where the audio from my headphones gets very choppy and unintelligible, kind of like static. It only occurs for a few seconds though, then everything resumes perfectly fine. Another big issue I have is that when I wake the screen, the same audio choppyness will occur and it will usually stay like that on the lockscreen, and when I unlock my phone, it goes away after a bit. My phone will also randomly show the message "Bluetooth messenger has stopped working" sometimes, usually after my phone is unlocked after a while of not using it. I have turned off my phone's doze function, cleared the cache many times, and factory reset it to no avail. Hope you guys can help.
