Hello,
I was hoping to get some help with installing Google Apps and rooting ZTE Geek V975. It's an Intel Medfield device powered by Intel Atom Z2580. The device works great, but it's all in Chinese and I couldn't find any information about rooting and installing Google Play services.
I tried several rooting kits I found here, but they all failed to gain root privileges. I guess there is a x86 specific su binary, but I don't know where to get it from.
I was also able to install a Google Services framework and the Google Play apk, but it says it has no connection, same goes with Google+ and Google Drive. Other Google apps such as Google Maps and Google Translate worked well. I tried flashing a Google apps zip file from recovery, but it errored out. So far all zip files except from vendor firmware are failing from ZTE Geek's recovery. I couldn't find any custom recovery or ROM for the device.
Any idea how to make this excellent device usable outside of China? Thanks for your time.

One idea would be to look at solution used for Lenovo K900 (same processor). I hope you will find, and share the solution.

Yes of course, but today at 18:30.
Its very easy, just flash a Rom via the onboard update Programm, than put the Google files into system/APP.
I need to upload all files, got them from chineese forum
instruction:
put update zip to root folder of external sd card, go to "settings/updates/upgrade using package on sd card" an hit "OK"
put g apps to system/app
install hacked playstore and other g apps
have fun!

Where can I find the custom rom of my ZTE V975??
is it compatible to p89 mini
I have p89 mini.
my tablet also use z2580.
Can I use this method to root my device?
No this method works only with the zte.
Or you try to flash a rom from a Smartphone into your tablet and get a nice toy for you kidds
The custom, preerooted Rom is the linked update.zip.
To copy the gapps, just extract the files, copy them via root explorer to the system folder i write before. You can use the chinese Version of rootexplorer thats integrated in the Rom, or install an other..

GPs working fine in france with Waze, an runstatic pro. Wifi ok 3G also running fine but I can be sure tha WCDMA is running in 900/2100 like dispayed in zte data (I've not finding the item in the engineer part). Due to intel processor somes apps not working. I've not tested with game.
The price is now below 200 € with store like antelife, pandawill and to2c.

Hy.
I've change the way I add goole market (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513824) and now all apps run fine.
According to zdevice compass is ok.
Many chineses app's that i've removed.
No bug until now
Battery endurance is weaker than with my former Jiayu G3S (max 1day and half).
No data about SAR I will check in the box

I spent a few days trying to install Google Play the cyanogenmod way, following instruction on a spanish site similar to what other's have posted here. The idea is to mount the readonly systemfolder using the bootloader and insert/write systemapps into system/apps
I succeeded but for some reason launching google play was killed instantly by some resident app on the phone.
On the MIUI forum somebody called Eric Xiang built a google play apk that kills the resident blocker and installs googleplay !
xttp://en.miui.com/thread-3998-1-1.html
I now have a fully operational V975 (4.2.2) with the latest official build B06 and google play.
Out of the box the phone is unlocked but not rooted.
To root it, install xttps://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/15286951/update.zip using the bootloader (vol+ and power on, when v975 wakes up release power but keep vol+ pressed for a few seconds more, then browse to update.zip. Obviously you preloaded the zip on a sdcard.
If ZTE release firmware B08, you'll have to root it again.
Battery life is excellent, as well as speed, camera, GPS fix is instant. I had a iocean X7 that i killed trying to get the gps working, but v975 feels a lot faster vs the X7's MTK 6589 quadcore 1.5ghz. Granted there's less pixels to move around.
One caveat : iCoyote does not install because of binary incompatibility ? This is an x86 device.
I also discovered the existence of AmazonMarket. Not as complete as GAPPS, but a nice fallback market. And most of the google stuff is installable by apk anyway, so living without GAPPS was not as bad as it looked.
Thx to Eric Xiang, his app prolly opens up all androidphones to googleplay, chinese phones can flood the rest of the world now
the above was two days of research guys, enjoy it !
Thank u for the review, the camera is good? Don u believe that is worth buying? Have u checked any custom roms?

We stay in India and My brother just bought Huawei G730 phone from china.
The phone has hell lot of restrictions and I am not able to open up play store in that and configure my gmail account.
Is there any way I can install some custom ROM on this phone and where to find this custom ROM etc. I have a very less information about this.
If there is any post describing this whole process, it will be great help.
Huawei G730 is good phone i love the ROM they have.
You did not found Google play because of it rights issue.
Huawei have given There market place with phone, just go there and install all the things which you want... Search goole play in that and install it. I works like a charm.
You can install all the products of google from there app store like Gmail , Google Play , Youtube etc.
I am using this phone since 2 month and its working damm good. I am looking for the Kernel of the phone just to customize for my knowledge.

Hello......please can some one make me a kitkat custom Rom for huawei G730-U10...?
I have a Redmi Note 4 Snapdragon with MIUI Global 8.2.10.0 (MCFMIDL) and Google Play Services 9.8.79 (448-137224771).
I want to download an .apk of the latest version of Google Play Services because I don't want to register a Google account for privacy reasons and there's a program that won't run without it.
However, even after reading two tutorials I'm not sure what version will work on my phone, especially since there may be a version specifically made for Xiaomi phones.
Can someone help me out and tell me what version I should download?

Hi Everyone,
I am looking to buy an 8 inch tablet in the cheaper price range of +- $ 200.00.
When comparing, I am still choosing between:
- Xiaomi Mi Tab 4
- Lenovo Tab4 plus 8
After some searching I have found a lot of info, but I have too many questions. Can someone help me decide?
1. I am looking for a tablet, mainly to use on Holiday to watch video's, stock camera pictures and use it as a basic computer for mail and browsing. English language is fine.
2. I have found 3 ROMs: Global - China - Vendor
Which one should I go for? I want a stable tablet with a lot of apps. Maybe install Android instead of the basic OS, but not sure yet as I haven't tried it yet
3. locked/unlocked bootloader: what is this for and how can I recognize it?
Hope you can help me which version to buy
Thanks!
Tom
mi pad 4 doesnt have official global version. so if anyone is selling one with global rom, its fake. buy one with china rom, than unlock bootloader and flash xiaomi.eu rom. you should be good to go after that. this is what i did, and i use my tab mostly for internet use and media consumption, and its working fine after doing those steps.
Mi Pad 4 has better specs (i.e. CPU and battery) than Lenovo.
See #2 reply.
You need unlocked bootloader to install custom ROM, including the xiaomi.eu ROM. Most Mi Pads are sold with locked bootloader and you need to wait for a month to unlock (you can use the device as usual while waiting). Some Mi Pads are sold pre-unlocked, seller would highlight it. Do note locked bootloader is totally different from carrier-locked. All Mi Pad are carrier-unlocked.
China ROM has English language, but doesn't include GApps (e.g. Google Play Store/Services). While you can easily install it through the MIUI App Store (or directly download the APK), but it doesn't always work.
That's why some users install xiaomi.eu ROM because it includes GApps and supports more languages. But again, you need unlocked bootloader.
Here's what you can do once you got a Mi Pad:
Install the apps you want through Mi App Store or Yalp Store. Yalp Store allows you to install apps from the Play Store without using the Play Store app. If you depend on Google Account, then those apps probably won't work, so you need GApps.
If you need GApps, try the Google Installer from Mi App Store or its APK.
If that doesn't work, you need to unlock bootloader and flash xiaomi.eu ROM.

Thank you so much for this reply, it's exactly what I was looking for.
So I will go for the China ROM, which will be fine to start. If needed, I can unlock the bootloader and set up the Xiaomi.eu ROM, thank you very much! Will this cause the tablet to slow down or will it work just fine?
EU ROM should have similar performance.
Hi everyone,
After reading and checking alot of threads here and in 10 pro threads of how to install OxygenOS on chinese varinet devices, i found out that alot of people bricked their devices, and there is no clear reason for that, sometime due to ignoring the unknown partitons, may be after relocking the bootloader .. etc.
so as long as there is no MSM tool i think i will stick to ColorOS.
i will receive the device (Ace Pro) this week.
Just i want to ask, how can i install google services on the phone (get sync, contacts, autofill password, having all apps ..etc) ..
and what is the overall experince of the colorOs
if you could help to test the Google Pay. I had a OPPO FindX3 pro Chinese version run native ColorOS, although i manage to get install GMS and all Google service, however Google Pay will failed after few days, but ok in the first few days of adding credit card. I had no solution on this for a year. Wanna know if Oneplus running on ColorOS would have the same probelm.
