LS998 to US998 Questions? - LG V30 Questions & Answers

I currently have a Sprint LS998 which I've been using for almost a year, with the recent OTA update LTE calling is getting disable which is a real bummer and Sprint's VoLTE isn't available in my area. After looking on the forum pages I found out that it is possible to flash my Sprint LS998 to a US998 but had a couple of questions before I attempted it.
1. Will it work with on TMobile/AT&T/Verizon?
2. If i do decide to flash will I still retain VoLTE, HD Calling, Wifi Calling when switching to a new network?
3. Once I've flashed will I still be able to obtain OTA updates?
Sorry if these are noob questions, I am quite new to this. Thanks.

Yes to most of your questions.
I believe you can get T-Mobile VoLTE converting LS998 to US998 KDZ, just through Frankenstein. I know there's lots of US998 on T-mobile.
I KNOW you can get Verizon VoLTE/WiFi calling by converting LS998 to VS996 with KDZ, via Frankenstein. But you would need already-activated Verizon SIM card.
However, for AT&T features like that, you need bootloader unlock, TWRP and then flash AT&T stock firmware ROM. Which means you would Frankenstein to US998 to get fastboot flash commands. If you were bootloader unlocking and installing TWRP, you could also afterwards flash the latest Verizon stock firmware "ROM" (built from the latest Verizon KDZ), if you didn't want AT&T. However, I recommend AT&T just because I use them.
So, you have options with both stock firmware KDZ or options after bootloader unlock and TWRP -- whatever you prefer.
----
You may not receive OTA after converting from LS998 -- but you don't need it. We have all the latest firmware posted here (in both KDZ and TWRP flashable zip "ROM") in this forum. For reasons unexplained, my wife has not received any OTA for her totally stock US998 since January 2018, but she's still on the latest firmware. I flashed it via LGUP. For myself, I use TWRP-flashable zip (since I'm bootloader unlocked and have TWRP). Easy to flash newer firmware in less than 5 minutes, which is typically released every 2 or 3 months.

Just to confirm in order to get the phone working on AT&T I need to first Frankenstein it to US998, then unlock the bootloader, and finally flash an AT&T stock firmware ROM? From then I should be able to put an AT&T sim card and activate service?

We're getting into a lot of scenarios here. I don't want to tell you wrong, but there's lots of options. For ME, I care about bootloader unlock and root and my answers are going to be skewed that way.
1) If you do NOT want that, just buy an AT&T H931. Done.
2) My phone works on AT&T as US998 -- but I don't have Wi-Fi calling. I have AT&T Prepaid and I don't care.
3) If you buy another North America variant (say fantastic price) that can be Frankensteined, and you want all the options and privileges on AT&T you will need to flash it first to US998 -- bootloader unlock/install TWRP -- and then flash the AT&T zipped firmware file.
The only caveat is most people who do this already have activated AT&T SIM card. US998 and H931 will activate on AT&T just fine. BUT they may balk at "Sprint" LS998 IMEI even though it may have US998 or H931 firmware. Depends on the store you use. There are other North America variants you can buy but for some reason the LS998 V30+ (whether actual or already flashed to US998) is ridiculously inexpensive.

Hello guys, if I bought a Sprint lg v30 with a bad imei, can I Frankenstein to US998 and use it with T mobile and ATT?

Frankensteining doesn't change the IMEI.
Talk about changing the IMEI is not allowed on XDA, as I recall... you may have to look elsewhere.

I'm gonna hijack this thread to ask a couple questions about Frankenstein v30's. I'm a Canadian on Bell and want to pick up a v30. I found a bunch on ebay us998 for a good price, how can I tell if it's been done? Will it really affect me at all if it is? I do travel to the US sometimes does that mean anything for when I try to use it down there?

At worst you would need an already activated SIM card, if it's LS998 to US998. I've owned two and two friends have a couple -- all of us are on AT&T and just put in our SIM cards. A friend just went today with a converted LS998/US998 and AT&T ACTIVATED a new SIM card for her. She called me to tell me of the success. I was a little worried. For her other LS998/US998 phone (a few months ago) it was an already activated SIM card, but this "new" phone (today) was for her sister.
I can't tell you about Canadian carriers' views on that subject.

You would just need to find a carrier who doesn't care it was possibly a Sprint phone but is now a carrier unlocked US998. Shouldn't be an issue unless you are trying to use Verizon or Sprint.

sprint lg v30+ for tmobile user.

Sorry about creating a thread but wanted to make sure I can flash Sprint LG v30+ to T-Mobile without issue. Tried to read a few threads but from my understanding Oreo had messed things up at one point.
Does it have to be unlocked through Sprint first?
Simple flash T-Mobile or international rom makes it usable?

No, doesn't have to be unlocked through Sprint first. And Oreo didn't mess up anything.
Some of the T-Mobile guys are complaining about T-mobile Oreo. I own five US998 and don't see anything they are complaining about. Must be a T-Mobile H932 issue.
You will convert LS998 V30+ to official carrier unlocked model US998 V30+ with Oreo, and run on T-Mobile. Converting to US998 carrier unlocks the phone and gives it fastboot flash commands.
You can stop there, or you can bootloader unlock, install TWRP and root the phone.
Whatever you do after that (Install ROMs or whatever) is your choice.
You will NOT flash T-Mobile firmware onto the phone or you will brick the phone.
Many T-Mobile users are running rooted US998 (original or converted) on T-Mobile.

Thank you for clearing that up for me.
My Sprint V30+ is sim unlocked. If I flash it to carrier unlocked phone and toss a TMobile sim in it, will I get access to VoLTE?
Right now when I toss a TMobile sim in it, calls drop to 2G/3G.

If flashed to US998 Oreo you will definitely get T-Mobile Wi-Fi calling.
T-Mobile users can answer specifically about T-Mobile VoLTE on US998.
But since you can temporarily drop down to HSPA for phone calls and still get data, it's not critical. I don't have VoLTE on my AT&T Prepaid plan and I don't care.

Crossflashing H931 (AT&T) to H930 (Open EU)

Hi!
I would like to flash my unlocked AT&T (branded) H931 to an Open EU H930.
Is this possible? Anyone tried that?
Can I just update the phone in LGUP with the H930-KDZ?
Thanks in advance!

No. Don't do it.
You can only safely flash North America variant to other North America variant. Even then, T-Mobile H932 is off limits.

@TxanMoe who discovered the WTF method bricked his phone trying exactly that -- going from North America AT&T H931 to Europe H930. @runningnak3d had to help him recover back to US998.
North America variants should stay North America. There's plenty of North America variants you can flash on H931-- US998, AS998, H933, VS996.

You need to follow the Frankenstein instructions. There's a specific order to do the flashing and you use Dev Patched LGUP. To convert H931 to US998, you have to flash US998 Nougat first, do a Master Reset, then flash US998 Oreo. It's all in the instructions.

I flashed my H931 to US998 like in the Frankenstein instructions:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76510671&postcount=168
Everything worked perfect!
The US998 seems just right for me - all bands I need and all functions are now working as they should (with the branded H931 AT&T I had wifi-tethering problems)
Thanks for the help!

Hello!
Is unlocked H931 free to use on other operators without flashing?
What is the purpose of installing another rom if yes?

If truly carrier unlocked and still H931 firmware, you CAN use on other operators -- but you still won't get updates. AT&T only gives updates to customers on their network and they don't publicly release KDZ. They only give OTA updates.
Bottom line: only AT&T customers want H931 firmware... For everyone else, it's useless.
By using Frankenstein method, you convert H931 to a North America carrier unlocked model which WILL receive KDZ updates. There are several North America carrier unlocked variants, but US998 is most popular.
Also, H931 doesn't have fastboot flash commands, so can't be bootloader unlocked and rooted as "H931". (But you can convert back to H931 after bootloader unlock and root, if you wish -- using a TWRP-flashable H931 stock firmware ROM.) Of all the North America variants, US998 has fastboot flash commands.

I'm an att prepaid customer. Will it have adb after flash to us998 and bootloader unlock, and then flashing back?
Is it true that I want to flash back to h931 because there are two lte bands I need enables for full coverage?
I'm assuming there are no ways to enable those radios while on us998?
Will this work the same with the ls998 v30+? Ie., flash to us998, unlock, root, flash to h931 to get my bands?
Thanks

If you read the part you quoted... of the North American variants, only US998 has fastboot flash commands. But if your bootloader is unlocked on US998 and you have TWRP installed, then you can flash H931 stock ROM (aka TWRP-flashable zip) to convert back to H931. Then you will have all the H931 bands.
With TWRP installed, you don't need ADB any more. We are only using ADB to unlock bootloader and install TWRP.
I think it's fair to point out that once you convert H931 to US998 by flashing the US998 KDZ, you can never fully convert back to H931, as no KDZs are available from AT&T. You can flash the H931 ROM with TWRP, but not the full firmware.
For most people that's not a problem, as US998 is superior to H931 in almost every way.
Only concern would be that you'd never receive OTA updates again, even if you're an AT&T customer. All updates will have to be manual (which I prefer anyway, but some people may be different).

Right, but the AT&T customers (very few) are people who want unlocked bootloader and TWRP. They can get that, and with TWRP-flashable zip, can also get AT&T features and those two extra bands back, IF they are AT&T customers.
However, most of the people (like the person who started this thread) who buy these H931 are NOT AT&T customers. This person wanted an EU H930, but got an H931 because it was probably cheaper.
These 2017 H931 phones are being sold around the world on eBay or eBay type sites as "UNLOCKED" LG V30 H931. Yes, they are carrier unlocked by code -- but will not receive updates for these owners who live all over the world. The only way to do that is to convert to another North American variant and use LGUP to update. The best choice is US998 firmware. (And just converting to update has nothing to do with bootloader unlock and root -- which some people don't want to do, they just want updates.)
These people don't care they will never be able to return to unrooted, bootloader locked stock H931 AT&T firmware -- as they can just sell the phone as pure stock bootloader locked US998 on eBay or whatever. The same way converted LS998 V30+ are sold as US998 V30+.

I think you know I agree with all that. If I had an H931 myself, I would convert it in a heartbeat. If my H932 could be converted to US998 I would do so too (despite loosing band 71).
But not everybody is the same. For example, while I know it wasn't a concern to you, preserving my 2-year warranty was necessary for me in case of hardware issues, and held me back from rooting for almost a year. To others, downloading KDZs from a non-LG site and installing them with Dev Patched LGUP -- simple enough for you and me -- may seem rather involved compared to receiving an OTA update. And yet others may want to be able to sell their phones as complete stock to a user who has absolutely no idea what we are talking about on XDA, and who expects OTAs like if they'd bought the phone from AT&T.
So, everybody is different. Which is why I think it is fair to at least mention the consequences of procedures we advocate here. And I advocate them too, so I am in completely sync with you there

While what you say is correct, there are many reasons you cannot get an OTA on an LG phone...
* My wife can not get an OTA on her completely stock native B&H Photo US998, which has never been bootloader unlocked.. Others with B&H Photo (which is the OFFICIAL carrier unlocked US998) have come here complaining they are stuck on Nougat since 2018.
* Older India H930DS owners can not get an OTA update on their phones. (LG changed the supply chain for the newer India H930DS phones and older ones can no longer receive OTA updates.). These are people who bought India H930DS brand new, when first released in India and LG has abandoned them.
My point is: LG OTA updates are never guaranteed in any way whatsoever.
That does not prevent those people from selling those US998 or H930DS phones, just because it doesn't receive OTA updates. That's not important when selling the phone. It's a used phone, sold as is.
At some point I'm going to sell my wife's phone, and it's going to be sold as genuine carrier unlocked US998 -- and I'm never going to mention I had to MANUALLY update it to Oreo and probably to Pie (when it becomes available and is stable). I'm not going to mention it doesn't get OTA updates.. It's going to be sold as-is.
These H931 people come here looking for solutions because they cannot update their phone. So, I'm not going to talk about potential problems for potential future owners. I'm going to solve the current owner's problem right now. Future owners will probably be glad that it's a carrier unlocked US998.
Same with LS998. They HAVE to convert to another variant -- to not only carrier unlock, but to get updates. I'm NOT going to tell them they can't carrier unlock their phone because of FUTURE owners who may want stock LS998 on Sprint?
I'm not arguing with you, I'm just telling you why I will never ever talk about OTA updates for someone who doesn't own this phone right now.

All right, buddy. We'll just agree to disagree on that. And that's OK with me. Having seen all the good you do for the V30 community over the last couple years, you're the last person I want to pick a fight with. :good:

I have the US998 model, am I supposed to flash H930 ROMs or...?

Hi all, I recently just bought a V30 so I'm all very new to this. I have the US998 model and from what I've gathered so far in this forum is that the US998 model seems to play a very significant role here. Seems like owners of H931/H933 models have to convert their devices into the US998 model in order to install custom Oreo ROMs. But having said that, I haven't seen any ROMs with links to a US998 version, just the H930 and H932. I'm sort of confused, so does that mean owners of the US998 model can flash any ROM version they want?

TLDR:
ALL AOSP/Lineage ROMs (unless specifically H932-only) are compatible with ALL V30/V30+/V30S.
Complete answer:
You've asked a complicated question.
* For the discussion below we are mostly talking about North America variants only.
* Some of this below does not apply to H930/H930DS/H930D/H930G (the 930's).
* Some of this below is also not just to answer this question but for other people who want to buy this fantastic phone.
1) For any V30/V30+/V30S, you have to have fastboot flash commands and have a specific date range of stock Oreo firmware to use the WTF exploit to unlock the bootloader and root. (This does not apply to the T-mobile H932. It has its own root method, has different RSA encryption and is an island to itself. My opinion is to stay away from H932, unless you are a T-mobile customer and specifically want H932 for the T-mobile LTE band 71. I welcome all H932 development, of course and am thankful we finally have root, etc for it. But no need to go out and buy it if you're not a T-mobile customer who wants LTE band 71. Other T-mobile customers have US998 -- original or converted from like LS998 -- and use it on T-mobile.)
Of the North American variants, only the US998 has fastboot flash commands AND has firmware which is totally compatible with all other North America variants, EXCEPT for H932. So, you at least temporarily convert to US998 to unlock bootloader, root. You can stay on US998 if you like, or you can flash back to another North America variant firmware at that point and still retain unlocked bootloader and TWRP (with ability to root). US998 is the official carrier unlocked North American variant, so works with most North American carries. However, some carriers only give some service options on their own firmware; Wi-Fi calling, etc. Your choice whether to stay on US998 firmware or flash to another carrier firmware. I'm on AT&T, but I am still running US998 rooted stock firmware.
2) Once bootloader unlocked and rooted, you can also install custom AOSP ROMs -- but some are easier than others. Former VS998, LS9998, AS998 and original US998 have no problems. AT&T H931 and Canada H933 have issues getting ASOP ROMs to boot up; however there's a complicated workaround was developed where you re-flash different firmware a few times for it to work. You can now run AOSP ROMs on H931/H933, but unless you already have those, there's no reason to specifically buy them if your desire is to run AOSP ROMs. T-mobile H932 has different RSA encryption and needs separate ROMs for that model.
3) The first dev to make several AOSP/Lineage ROMs registered his H930 on AFH server website (which a lot of XDA devs use, and which I use as they give free server space for development), and now AFH thinks ALL V30 are "H930". Even VS996, H933, US998 V30 KDZ which I upload to H930 are categorized by AFH as "H930" when it's not. Confuses people when they click on a link, goes to AFH website and says "H930". ALL AOSP/Lineage ROMs (unless specifically H932-only) are compatible with ALL V30/V30+/V30S.
4) For North American variants, you cannot cross flash H930 or H930DS full stock firmware "ROMs". Stock firmware ROMs are just stock KDZ in TWRP-flashable format. Do NOT try to flash a North American variant to a stock firmware H930/H930DS ROM. You can only flash other North American stock firmware (except for H932) and AOSP/Lineage ROMs. The ONE exception to that is the Boombox ROM -- which is BASED on H930 stock firmware, but IS compatible with all V30/V30+/V30S (except for T-mobile H932).
CONCLUSION
Anyway, that's why you see "H930" AOSP ROMS (they are not really just for H930) as well as H932 ROMs (and they ARE only for H932). The best North America variant phones to buy for AOSP/Lineage ROMS are LS998, VS996, AS998, and original US998. H931 and H933 can flash AOSP/Lineage ROMs but after bootloader unlock and root, you have to then go through another flashing procedure to make it work. T-mobile H932 has different RSA encryption and devs have to release separate ROMs for them.
After you bootloader unlock and root, I suggest trying out rooted stock firmware for awhile. Everything works, and on US998 20F we even now have DTS 3D stereo. There are Magisk mods you can flash which give even more capabilities. The only reason I suggest that is because it helps to have a baseline comparison. Then try the AOSP/Linage ROMs. That way if something doesn't work right, you know whether it's the ROM or the phone.

Then you've read Root Sticky Guide part about custom ROMs? It's linked in the WTF INSTRUCTIONS. (See attached screenshot.)
See post #2 of that thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/root-v30-t3927154
What US998 firmware are you on? For LOS-16 PIE ROMS, your need to update to most recent Oreo. Or it won't boot/work right.
Was your phone always USS98 or is it former H931/H933? If you read the guide, you know why I'm asking. There's more stuff you would need to do. Or it won't boot.

Yes i followed that guide word for word, and then updated to the latest rooted oreo firmware which is 20h after unlocking bootloader, by flashing from 20e to 20h back to back and then flashed magisk aftewards just as the guide said.
I honestly can't tell if this has always been a US998 model but then looking up the IMEI online shows its a V30 instead of a V30+

Good that you updated to the latest Oreo.
Does your V30 have 128GB of memory or 64GB of internal memory? IF 128GB of internal memory then it's a V30+. It never could have been an AT&T H931 or Canada H933 as they don't natively have the 30+. It could have been a Sprint LS998 V30+ at one point in time, but there's no issues with former LS998 running custom roms.
It's just the we get people in here who go through the bootloader unlock -- but don't bother update to latest Oreo or don't read the part about h931 and h933, and then wonder why they can't boot to custom ROMs. I apologize, I thought you were one of those people.

LG H931 AT&T Stock firmware

I followed the Frankenstein method to convert from H931 to US998. But now I want to revert. Does anyone know where I could download the firmware for the V30 AT&T model h931? If not, is there a way to revert it back to H931 without downloading the firmware?
I'm facing the same situation, so far, no joy.
It's unfortunate, but AT&T and I think Sprint also, make a point of NOT allowing someone to download the firmware. Spent most of yesterday searching for possible solutions... it's not looking good.
Maybe others might comment with more hope?

Are you an AT&T customer?
The ONLY reason you would want AT&T firmware on a V30 is if you're an AT&T customer. Even then, if you want root, you have to temporarily convert to US998 to unlock bootloader, install TWRP and root.
Then ONLY ONLY ONLY if you're an AT&T customer, if you wish you can re-install AT&T firmware via the TWRP flashable zip above.
Otherwise, for H931 best to stay on US998 firmware if you don't want AOSP/Lineage custom ROMs.
(I'm on AT&T, and I'm still on US998 firmware. But I could flash that AT&T firmware zip above, if I wanted.)
For people who are NOT AT&T customers, then you NEVER want the V30 AT&T H931 firmware. US998 is better.

Not really. Carrier unlocked US998 will sell much faster than H931.
Same reason most LS998 are already converted to US998 by eBay dealers.
US998 is the golden child of the North American V30 phones. Even has CDMA and fastboot flash commands.
If it's US998 it's guaranteed carrier unlocked, whereas H931 you have to take the seller's word for it. I'm an AT&T customer and I would never buy an H931... Whereas I've bought several US998 or LS998 and converted them to US998.

On eBay it might be sellable as you describe. But not on swappa, I don't think they even have a listing for that. If you put it in the u.s. 998 category, they want it to be a us998.

Then don't worry about Swappa. Just sell it on eBay...
No one is going to convert back to stock H931 firmware and re-lock bootloader without something like Octopus box (which dealers have).
You also can't convert former Sprint LS998 back to LS998 with just LGUP. No one cares.
Whereas people NEED to convert H931 to US998 to
get updates for non-AT&T people buying the H931 and/or
to unlock bootloader and root.
And with bootloader unlock and root, while you CAN convert former H931 back to H931 firmware, you cannot relock bootloader on H931 firmware (no fastboot flash commands).
If you sell on Swappa that way, then you have to tell them the while it has H931 firmware, the bootloader is unlocked, TWRP installed, and you'll have to disclose that. Buyers may actually WANT it that way! Saves them time and trouble. (Swappa is affiliated with XDA.) I've never re-locked bootloader to sell my phones (even on eBay), and my stuff always sells.
Or relock bootloader, sell as US998 on eBay with no problem.
I bought the V30 H931 off eBay and cross flashed it to US998. Within hours after flashing, I started to notice that my screen had bad LED uniformity issues (even though the seller listed it as near mint). So now I want to return it and I am worried the flashing voided the seller warranty.

Yeah, I think that's a serious issue. I don't know if they'll accept it, but guess it's worth a try to return...
The lg v30, as @ChazzMatt is pointing out, does have some idiosyncrasies. Most, I know for me anyway, always set it back to 'stock' before selling. It's just too much hassle otherwise.
But, (most of) the v30 versions (I'm learning) that's not possible. Which is good and bad. Bad in that many (most I'd say) buyers just don't understand technical stuff well enough to deal with anything but stock. And also bad in your situation macdav.
In my situation, I re checked swappa (have sold phones on ebay also, just more luck on swappa), and they do have some h931 listed and indicated 'unlocked' (which I think has to be 998). So I've relocked and lgup to 20H - and will describe as they do on ebay: 'works with any carrier that requires a sim, but for sprint it has to already be provisioned'.
It's a great device, tremendous value for money, etc. So no one is being ripped off or anything.
Good luck macdav, let us know how it works out.
Cheers

The only two V30 phones you can't return to stock -- with locked bootloader -- are the only two which don't have public KDZ: Sprint LS998 and AT&T H931. Every other V30/V30+/V30S on the planet you can relock bootloader and flash back to stock with LGUP.
For those two -- H931 and LS998 -- best to leave on US998 after relocking the bootloader. And it's not an issue to sell them them on eBay, as most time that is what people want in the the first place (debloated, carrier unlocked firmware).

No, those are carrier unlocked H931, not bootloader unlocked. Because normally AT&T H931 is SIM card locked to AT&T. Those "unlocked" H931 have had codes inputted so they are no longer carrier locked to AT&T.
HOWEVER, what they don't tell you on Swappa or eBay is you STILL have to convert to US998 if you want updates for that "carrier unlocked" H931 phone, unless you're an AT&T customer. And most people buying a carrier unlocked H931 are probably NOT AT&T customers.
Thus those buyers then come here to find out why they can't get updates. Because they bought a carrier unlocked H931 and you can't get updates without an AT&T SIM card. So, they have to convert to US998 -- so they can get KDZ updates via LGUP. Plus, since they are not AT&T customers they don't need all the AT&T bloatware either.
I've answered that question half a dozen times in the past week: "Why isn't my H931 getting updates?" Because you have to convert to US998, and update via LGUP...

This paragraph is a little confusing.
1) You relocked what and used what KDZ? What 20H? US998 20H? If so, that's fine.
2) Wait, Sprint? You have an LS998? I thought you had H931? Sprint users have to have native LS998. Sprint users can NEVER use an H931. Their phone has to be native LS998. While they also convert to US998, once bootloader unlocked and rooted, they can return to LS998 via TWRP flashable zip. But Sprint users can NEVER active a V30/V30+ that was not first an LS998. Sprint checks IMEI.
Then, to sell the phone, they have to convert back to US998 to re-lock bootloader and they would sell as US998. I wouldn't mention Sprint in the listing whatsoever.
3) Also why are you selling your phone?

The only two V30 phones you can't return to stock, with locked bootloader are the two which don't have public KDZ -- LS998 and H931. Every other one to can relock bootloader and flash back to stock with LGUP.
For those two, you have to leave on US998. And it's not an issue to sell them them on eBay as most time that is what people want in the the first place.

No, those are carrier unlocked H931. Because normally H931 is SIM card locked to AT&T.
What they don't tell you on Swappa is you STILL have to convert to US998 if you want updates for that "carrier unlocked" H931 phone unless you're an AT&T customer.
You relocked what and used what KDZ? What 20H? Are you saying you used your LGUP dump to go back to H931 20H?
Wait, Sprint? You have an LS998? I thought you had H931? Sprint users have to have native LS998.
This paragraph is very confusing. Also why are you selling your phone?

" you STILL have to convert to US998 if you want updates"... well I see that as being up to the buyer, I'd prefer to sell it as stock if I could, and avoid any issues they may have. alas.
"those are carrier unlocked H931", I was wondering if that was the case. It seems on ebay they don't specify and some of them are 'unlocked' because they have been converted to us998? It's confusing. I've seen at&t and t-mo devices listed as 'at&t only' and 't-mo' only. Well I'll have to be sure to specify it's been converted to us998.
"You relocked what and used what KDZ?" Oy Vey I guess that wasn't clear, I went to us998 20H (10a - relocked bootloader, then did numerous upgrades and eventually to 20H).
"Are you saying you used your LGUP dump to go back to H931 20H", no, but is that possible? I have "factory" 931 in a zip, they are all img format, can lgup use those to go to h931? That would be good.
"Wait, Sprint? You have an LS998? I thought you had H931? Sprint users have to have native LS998. This paragraph is very confusing. Also why are you selling your phone?" It's complicated... no! it's not! I'm kidding I have **3** V30 2 are ls998 (originally) and the other is the H931. I initially got the h931 but decided to go with an ls998 because of possible issues with aosp roms. And because I liked the ls998 ease with aosp roms (the 3 diff ones I tried all booted even when they'd last had 20g on them). Then I liked that ls998 so much I found one on ebay that was described as 'exactly what you'd get from the Sprint store'. Got it and was mfg'd 6 mo ago. Brand new. OEM box. Serial numbers matched
it's complicated - but fun Cheers

OK, I understand. You are merely culling your V30 collection, not getting rid of it. Yeah, I'm down to three, whereas I had 5 at one point. One was a former LS998 and suddenly the Qi wireless charging stopped working -- which we use every day. So, gave it to a friend who couldn't care less about Qi wireless charging. Otherwise was mint, converted US998 V30+. I wasn't going to sell it, so better to just give it to a friend who I know will never use that feature.
As for using the LGUP dump to restore back to stock, I think it's possible but I've never done it.
Hey, I live in Canada and bought a refurbished H931 that I've been using for a few years. In an attempt to remove AT&T bloat and install firmware updates, I followed the instructions here and I now have a working "US998".
The only problem is, I seem to have a lot of trouble connecting to 4G/LTE now. I think it may be related to the US998 missing some bands that the H931 supported like 3G 1700 that my carrier uses (Fizz) (reference here) although I might be wrong (in which case if someone has any idea how to fix it, any help would be greatly appreciated).
Does anyone know if I could flash H933 firmware (found here) instead to fix that problem? Or should I follow the instructions to root in order to flash back the TWRP flashable H931 ROM?
I know this thread is kind of old but any help is welcome. @ChazzMatt maybe? You seem to be pretty knowledgeable about this phone.
You can flash to H933 using KDZ, but you have to do a reverse Frankenstein. Flash to H933 Nougat first, Master Reset, and then flash H933 Pie. Use Dev Patched LGUP with Partition DL mode (all partitions).
I have Oreo and Pie H933 KDZ threads but you'll have to find the H933 Nougat KDZ. I can't remember where it is right now. The LG Firmwares site has all that (it's not an LG official site, but a fan site that collects most of the firmware.)
Thank you so much! I already found the KDZs, just wanted to check if that process was feasible. Going to try this as soon as I can and post back here if it works.

I Need Help Wirt My LG V30

I bought an LG V30, but is the model VS996 and i having issues with the Verizon customization, coz for example i cant enable 4g calling due i dont have Verizon SIM.
Other issue am having is that i cant conect 4g data even when i put the apn, if i switch to 2g and the come back to 4g i can activate 4g data but later the problema comes back, and is very weird and annoying.
I think my problems can be solved if i change my firmware, so i have 2 questions:
Whats the best oficial unlocked firmware (with no phone company) for the lg v30?
And my device is unlocked
If i change the firmware my phone locks again? Coz in the country where i live theres no Verizon so i wont be able to unlock it again.
Thaks if someone responds

You need to convert your Verzion VS996 to "open market" carrier unlocked US998 firmware. US998 is the official carrier unlocked firmware for North America and works well on the (North America) Verizon VS996.
See the Frankenstein thread instructions.
IF you're not a Verizon customer, then yes you do not need or want U.S. carrier Verizon firmware. Instead you need the official carrier unlocked US998 firmware. You can convert the VS996 to US998, which will solve your problems.
After conversion you will have carrier unlocked US998 with these bands:
http://www.lg.com/us/cell-phones/lg-US998-Unlocked-v30
US998
CDMA: 800 MHz CDMA
2G GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G UMTS (HSPA):850/900/1900/2100 MHz
4G LTE Bands: 1/2/3/4/5/7/12(17)/13/20/25/66

No he didn't. No one has bricked their phone flashing VS996 to US998. You're probably quoting some person who didn't follow the directions. Even then his phone wasn't bricked he just needed to do a Master Reset, which is the next step after flashing Nougat. Some people don't like to follow directions.
Just read the directions. No need to ask any more questions here. Ask in that thread if you don't understand the instructions. They tell you exactly what to flash. There's only five steps.
Many thousands of people have converted to us998 and no one has bricked their phone, unless it's someone who tried to flash U.S. T-Mobile H932 against all warnings...
