For the sake of this question I have a locked bootloader on a wt19i. The phone is rooted. (It's my friend's phone but I'm voicing a theory). It can't enter fastboot mode and the bootloader unlock status is: not allowed.
Armed with the IMEI number,
If I did a TA backup via Octopus Suite 1.0.3,
Then, (following methods seen in this thread: http://goo.gl/QNKxS Third post down.) to force the phone into fastboot, start a firmware (re)install in PC Companion. During that process the phone will enter fastboot mode. If I stop the process there [in Windows Task Manger], then the phone will get stuck booting only into fastboot mode (until I finish putting firmware .tft back on it).
THEN I use SE Bootloader Unlocking v1.6 {Found here: http://goo.gl/JxDmY }. I give it my IMEI, it gets an unlock code and I connect the phone - in fastboot - and select "Unlock BL" to unlock the bootloader.
Then restore TA, followed by a restore of firmware.
Would this unlock the bootloader or brick the phone?
Corrections and answers welcome.

I checked the thread you were referring to,
the process they are doing there is to access flash mode...
fastboot is completely different, can only be accessed if bootloader is unlocked.
based also on the bootloader unlock status: not allowed, this means phone is network locked, unlocking of bootloader would not work thru available methods in xda.
you would to pay in order to remove the network lock and then unlock bootloader

This would not unlock the bootloader,
Brick the phone, not sure, but it would probably wont, good thing you have a backup.
You can always do a flashing of stock firmware thru flashtool or wotanserver.

your bootloader is unlocked.
You can check the state if you boot phone up, open dialer, type *#*#7378423#*#* -> Service Info -> Configuration
Please tell us what it says there, then we can help you

The problem is you tried to use that tool and the moment you have typed your IMEI and pressed get unlock code, you lost your warranty. So you have no warranty anymore!!
Now you will have to desimlock and after that you can just hope fasboot is enabled.
Install flashtool, open the installation folder > drivers and install all drivers for all devices. Install the android sdk (please better look in my signature to see how to set up android sdk and flashtool and replace the usb drivers). Then try to enter fastboot mode like explained in the threads
Hey,
I'm currently trying to root my Sony Xperia Z2 but I can't get past the unlockbootloader stage.
I use the instructions given at Sony Developer World after entering my IMEI and all that, but one step don't work for me:
"3. On your Xperia™ Z2, press the Volume up button at the same time as you connect the other end of the USB-cable. For Windows users, when asked for a driver, point to the usb_driver folder where you placed the android_winusb.inf-file, and select the Android Boot loader Interface-file."
I connect the phone and it lights up blue as it should but computer is not asking me for any drivers. And seem I have to do this step as the next step is:
"4. When your device is connected, open a command window on your computer and go to the platform-tools folder within the Android SDK folder and type in ">fastboot devices" "
And if I type "fastboot devices" after the ">" nothing happens. If I try it with ">fastboot devices" the cmd.exe goes "The system cannot find message text for message number in the message file for Application."
Thanks for any help!
Andreas
I recomend using flashtool instead, also backup your TA partition because your warrent is voided by your bootloader being unlocked
Flashtool.net < it has a drivers.exe run in the drivers folder, run that first
I was never able to unlock my bootloader via sonys instructions across few devices, flashtool alwaus has worked for me
Thanks!
Gonna try it out but wondering if I should backup the TA Partition before or after the fastboot?
For example at this thread it states first step as "root" which feels more like the last step.

Before!
Unlocking the bootloader deletes your DRM keys so backing up your TA after you have unlocked the bootloader would be pointless.
The order you need to do things is...
Root (this allows you to backup your TA)
Backup your TA
Unlock your bootloader
Flash a flash a custom recovery
Flash ROMs to your heart's content
If you want to go back to stock (including restoring your DRM keys)...
Flash a stock FTF using flashtool
Lock the bootloader
Root
Restore your backed up TA
Flash the same FTF using flashtool (to remove root)
Hey!
I have the same problem here, nothing happens when i write fastboot devices while trying to unlock my device (but adb is working, in fact, i got into bootloader mode using adb).
I tried also using flashtool, but it says my device isn't able to be unlocked (but checking it in my z2 following Sony 's website steps it says: UNLOCK BOOTLOADER:YES).
Thanks!

If you aren't getting device ID on fastboot devices then either your device isn't in fastboot mode or your pc isn't detecting it, check that you have the correct drivers installed, flashtool can do it for you, and try again.

That was the first i though, but if i can use adb, drivers should be okay, or at least that's what it should be.
And about not being in fastboot mode, i got into it through adb, and my notification led was blue, as it should be when the device is in fastboot mode.
Thanks again!
If I'm not mistaken fastboot and adb drivers are different, at least they are on htc devices. If fastboot devices returns no results it's because the pc can't communicate with any fastboot devices connected to it, end of.
First of all im legit user of this phone, im aquire this device though legal purcase (i can provide you with my purcase notice).
I have problem with pin locked device, i suddenly forget my pin and now am stuck at locked home screen. Unfortunely this device is soo brand new, im not yet integrating my mi account to this device thus setup pin to this device. So i can not do the normal way of unlocking bootloader by miunlock procedure. Since i not yet link my device to my mi account i cannot unlock it via mi unlock.
I already try few ways of flash include using linux: sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb, but when i send "adb devices" command it show no device. I think it caused by locked bootloader.
Any help or suggest will be helpful. Thanks
What device MTK or SD?
Thanks for responding.. Its MTK
So first of all you need to use SP flash tools to flash a new ROM & you can do that without unlocking your bootloader but you will lose all your data using the following method:
http://en.miui.com/thread-371349-1-1.html
As for your adb commands ie (adb devices) they will work regardless of bootloader state.
I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve by using (sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb)? but anyway there is a way to remove the pin but that requires root & USB debugging enabled.
Thanks for the link, i'll let you know if its working. About the (sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb) command, its debian/ubuntu command to install adb tools

No problems, your welcome.
Hello there. I have a Nokia 6.1 with android 9.0 and i tried to root it. I enabled the developer mode, then enabled usb debugging.
But when i tried to unlock the bootloader, i couldn't because the OEM unlocking option stays greyed out on off. So when i installed adb and fastboot, i tried to boot by adb reboot bootloader but the fastboot can't do anything because it says device is locked.
I even factory reset the device, nothing. Same thing.
What should i do? Preferably not the paid unlock...
Thanks in advance.
Try this (It will wipe the phone, so create a backup of all important files before proceeding):
1. Connect your phone to your PC with an USB cable (make sure you have activated USB debugging in developer options)
2. Run adb
3. Type in adb reboot bootloader
4. Once your phone has rebooted type in fastboot flashing unlock or fastboot oem unlock
You should have unlocked your bootloader and you should be good to go, if it doesn't work then you'll need an unlock key, which unfortunately you'll have to pay for
If you think that you have misunderstood some steps then feel free to reply
