Hi,
I'd like to buy an Android set-top box for watching IPTV, using XBMC and use several others applications (browser/facebook/Twitter/Netflix...), but I have troubles figuring out what devices will be enough for me and what apps I will be able to use with a "classic" Android remote (not a keyboard or trackpad remote controller).
Is there a way to list in the Play Store the apps that are compatible with a remote ?
I'm also confused about the new Android TV platform and the Android TV Launcher. It seems the first will only be available on some partners new devices like Sony and requires Lollipop and the latter is available for every device running at least KitKat. Is this right ?
Is it better for me to buy now a 4.4 set-top box (the Bee-link UBox R89 seems nice), or wait for a 5.0 Android TV-certified device ?
(Sorry, no links allowed in my post, I'm a new user)
Thx
Hey, I'm currently working with an Android TV box T8-AML-V3 which has some drawbacks. The major drawbacks being the inability to cast to it (like you would with a chromecast) and the inability to use the Android TV Remote app which I believe is due to the rom identifying the device as a phone rather than an Android TV.
Any advice as to changing the rom status to Android TV?
Hi to all.
I've flashed my MDZ-16-AA with Android TV rom found somewhere on the Net.
Seems to work almost properly (netflix doesn't work but I don't care about it) except for the fact that i'm unable to use 4K resolution on my 4K TV.
Any advice ? Is possible to upgrade to Android TV 6 ? Currently I'm using Android TV 5.1
Can u share the rom and how to install it...i have the same mi box too and want to change to android tv
@admin : Hopefully this is the correct section I am posting to, else please move. Thank you
So, I had bought Onida 43" Smart TV back in 2016 as it was one of those first Android TVs in India. However looking at actual Android TV OS , you can make out that they literally ported phone OS (4.4.4) onto this TV and make it "Android TV". The ROM is also one of the developer ROMs that was ported without any end testing. Now with regular app updates TV has slowed down and apps crash often. TV in itself has never received any update from manufacturer and customer care has no idea what "update" for the TV is.
So can a clean wipe be performed and current ROM be replaced with pure Android TV ROM instead?
Thank you
Finally found a lag free ROM from a LCD/LED repair center. The lag and freeze issues have resolved after the update. TV is still on 4.4.4 but now a new list of problems have started, power button on TV has become inactive and TV now responds to Channel Down as Power On/Off. Remote control Power On/Off button no longer responds. Rest all works perfectly fine. Just my luck
Hello! I too have an onida 'live genius' android 4.4.4 tv.
my device says that it is an mstar android tv.
I'd like to upgrade it 5.0 but I couldn;t find any info on it.
does anyone have a custom recovery for this tv?
or a 5.0 ROM?
(noob here)
EDIT: How to enter recovery?
Hello!
I am wondering does someone here tried to use any touchscreen foil/screen to control his Android TV device. I read from official android docs that TV devices should be controlled via remote not touchscreen, however I feel touch control can ba as intuitive as remote for TVs or any other displays with Android TV interface.
There is instruction with kernel modules how to achieve that, but with older Android versions: https://www.dognmonkey.com/techs/how-to-add-touch-screen-to-android-tv-box.html
Does someone know anything how to grasp this topic? Any hints will be appreciated.

that is an intresting idea, and seems perfectley possible, not sure how android tv UI will respod to touch as seems to have issues with mouse pointer (which is a virtual touch) in some instances like the initial set up screen ui
