Huge battery drain after unlocking bootloader - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

Hi there,
I purcharsed a Pocophone F1 two months ago and, after unlocking bootloader, I ran into serious battery issues with the phone only not lasting a day when in the same usage it used to last about three days before. So I came back to the shop and they exchanged me with another one after two months (because they first attempted to understand the issue but finally lost the phone).
So, when I got this new phone, like for the previous one, I found the battery life amazing. Then I unlocked the bootloader and flashed Magisk, and it suddenly dropped : I was losing about 1% of battery every 2 minutes.
So I re-flashed the stock ROM, without Magisk or anything, but the problem didn't disappear. I finally wiped everything, flashed the stock ROM, relocked bootloader (which wiped a second time the data), but the problem was still here.
Currently, I'm running the Havoc 2 ROM (Android Pie) flashed with Open Gapps and Magisk, usingSphinx Kernel. It worked great at the beginning of the day, but for no apparent reason my problem appeared again a few hours ago. I attached a few screenshots to illustrate it :
The first one is when going into a terminal and typing `su` then `top` while I was listening to music on Google Play Music (there was no other application opened, no WiFi, no Bluetooth, no GPS, brightness at, let's say, 50%). As you can see I was even in power save mode. I also tried to use other CPU governors like `blu_schedutil`or `powersave` but that didn't change anything (the default and current one is `schedutil` for both big and LITTLE cores).
NOTE: Don't mind about the usage percent and time, I used the "reset" button to check what was going on.
The second one is the result of Kernel Adiutor in the same context, and the last screenshot is when I have only this application opened (no terminal, no Google Play Music). Because of this, the Pocophone heats up, of course.
Also note this problem can happen randomly ; for instance I just re-launched Google Play Music and played some tracks, the big cores remained at near to zero usage percent (while the 8th core was still as its maximum).
To sum up what I tried:
* Changing ROM doesn't help ;
* Using a custom kernel doesn't help ;
* Re-locking the bootloader doesn't help ;
* Wiping everything in TWRP (internal storage, vendor, data, etc.) doesn't help ;
* Going in power save mode doesn't help ;
* Setting the CPU governor on "powersave" or other doesn't help ;
* Closing all other apps doesn't help
Does anyone have an idea of what's going on? The same problem happened with two different phones, which is very strange ; I don't have any background application running (I manually stopped them all, and the problem was here even after flashing the stock ROM alone, with no non-stock application installed).
Thanks in advance for your help

Try going back to full stock stable with stock recovery via fastboot method. Drain battery to 0 and full charge.
Are you having good cell reception all the time?

I already tried this and this changed nothing. And yes, I had good cell reception all the time.
Because of some posts I finally found when looking for my apps, I found Google Play Music was eating battery on some random devices (sometimes it can drain battery at an amazing rate on several different devices, but no one knows why). The battery life seems better know. Still, this doesn't explain why I was experiencing the same problem with the stock ROM with stock recovery, without this application or any other.

The phone is brand new? If not, have you checked the health status of the battery?
I got mine second hand from aguy at work and it seemed OK on stock MIUI, but I noticed much faster drain on Lineage OS although everybody saying is one of the best for battery life, finally has seemed to get better.
I am using Havoc with pico GApps, D8G kernel (no oc) and FDE.AI(paid). My idle times are much better, and overall use too, the performance in games is much better too, but I've opted for some over clocking to boost gaming so the drain on heavier loads is greater as expected.

Battery drains in cm11 + galaxy-s2 - tried all tips

I installed cm11 on my s2 a while ago using the installer and since then im trying to figure out the reason for the huge battery drain. Cm works great but it drains the battery in an average rate of 19% per hour (a special app did the math, and i can clearly see for myself ). I dont do anything more than music, surfing and whatsapp. Android stats usually say the screen is the no1 battery drainer. Android os second.
I searched the internet and tried every possible tip there was. IMO the only thing I hadn't tried is flashing different modem and different kernel (didn't find good guides for it and was afraid to brick the device)
What I have tried:
1. Flashed neatrom just to compare. A little improvement but still not like old days and of its not a good performance like cm.
2. Went back to cm through recovery backup and Used battery stats, taking permissions away from every app with a redundant wake/cpu lock.
3. Got new battery, assuming the problem may have to do with an old battery (bought the device 2yrs ago)
4. Calibrated battery both with the app and also using the manual trick (chrage while phone off, take batter out, wait five mins and put back in).
5. Tried different governors.
Might be forgetting other things. Nothing works!
What can I do? I really wanna use cm and not get lost flashing less good roms.
Thanks
This device uses an old Exynos SoC optimized for Android 4.1, In new versions is normal battery performance loss because there is more consumption of resources
It also warms up and all.... You recommend flashing older version of cm?

Yes, only if you really need more battery life. I have a Galaxy S Advance, who died in the 4.1, Battery life in 4.4(CM) is 30% lower than the official 4.1.

[Q] Edge Android OS battery drain

My edge had decent to great battery life in the first 2 weeks of my ownership, however on the third week now, and suddenly the battery runs out much quicker (didn't download much new apps).
And after a few test, I found that Android OS is always the top or second most battery used application.
Seems like a lot of people have this problem across all android devices, however after a bit of research I still can't find the cause of the problem.
So what are the current solution for this problem, I have disable pretty much everything (everything google except map and play store + most samsung app + more)
1. If I root my device and run Stock kernel and Rom would be help with the android OS battery drain or do I need to install special program like greenify
2. Would factory resetting help without rooting?
Thanks guys
They are supposed to be releasing a new firmware that deals with this issue but it seems to be taking a very long time.
I too have the problem and am fed up with it.
I have the same problem..
Since having my edge for a few weeks now, I have had about three lockups and two occasions when the phone rebooted by itself.
I did a factory reset as soon as I got it and there have been no firmware updates since doing that.

Massive screen-off battery drain with all ROMs

Hello everybody,
about two months ago, I had an issue with my installed ROM on my Redmi Note 2 Prime (I think it was this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-2/orig-development/rom-cyanogenmod-12-1-t3288916 ). I decided to try out another ROM so I installled Bule's Mokee ROM ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/red...nt/rom-cm-12-1-mokee-bule-mokee-blue-t3328382 ). After a few days with this ROM I recognized a big battery drain while screen off so I installed BetterBatteryStats to get some more informations. It told me that about 50-75% of the time my CPU was running at 800mhz instead of deepsleep (at a normal day with about 1-2h of Screen-On-Time). It didn't look to me like something is creating a wakelock though (but maybe I am just unable to see this). I tried the next ROM: Daniel Pinto's CM12.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-2/development/rom-unofficial-t3310551) and again the same issue! I tried a full wipe of my internal storage, did not install xposed and did not install any titanium backup. The battery drain didn't go away. So i flashed another ROM: SlimMIUI V7.1.3.0 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-2/development/rom-slimmiui-dev-stable-t3296594 ) and suddenly there was no more screen off battery drain! This went well for about three weeks and now I am facing the old problem again! Please tell me what I am doing wrong since I don't believe it's a ROM-related issue.
I installed these apps (according to MIUI):
9gag
AdAway
Android System WebView
Antutu 3DBench
Antutu Benchmark
AquaMail
BetterBatteryStats
BikeComputer
Burning Series
Chrome
DB Navigator
Dropbox
ES Datei Explorer
Google Play Store
Google Play-Dienste
Google-Tastatur
Greenify (wasn't installed before SlimMIUI)
GuitarTuna
Hacker's Keyboard
Hearthstone
irplus
Maps
Messenger
MX Player
mydealz
No-Frills CPU Control
Nova Launcher
Open Camera
PaderSprinter
QuickPic
scondoo
SleepTimer
Spotify
SuperSU
Telegram
TeslaUnread
Titanium Backup
Twitch
Unified Remote Control
Wakelock Detector Free
WhatsApp
Youtube
What I have tried so far:
- changing ROM (clean flash)
- not installing xposed
- not using old backups
- changing the battery
- using airplane mode
Also, I wonder why there are these gaps in the battery history since I didn't reboot yesterday...but these gaps don't appear every day.
Please help me to fix this really annoying problem and make my RN2 great again!
Thanks,
Kooneybert
The biggest drain comes from all the Xiaomi bloat. Read this thread for details on how to reduce the bloat. In my experience, the second main culprit is WhatsApp. I've had to stop it from giving sound notifications (or even vibrating) when messages come in. Now, I have between 90%-95% deep sleep on idle. Basically, anything that turns on audio could be a problem, because sometimes audio doesn't go off afterwards.
You might want to try GSAM Battery Monitor for more information about what is eating up your battery.

Thx for your reply! The problem is not MIUI-exclusive. CM 12.1 from Daniel Pinto is pretty slim but gave the same result (from the first day on).
Whatsapp can't be the only problem since all my friends use it and nobody have this problem (some of them also even have a RN2). Also, my phone is in silent mode almost all the time so no app is allowed to make noise or vibrate.
I just installed GSAM Battery Monitor but I don't know how to use the app/read the provided data. I could use some help there, too.

You can only be sure if you have a really skinny ROM whereby all the unnecessary Xiaomi stuff has been removed. There are all sorts of things going on in the background - including things embedded in the boot image.
There are also possibly optimisation issues with the kernel. All the ROMs seem to depend on the same binary kernels, since there is no GPL release of the kernel source code. You might want to try one of the skinny boot images by @jajk
As for GSAM, the best to learn is by trial and error (tip: tap on everything visible to see where it leads to, and what information it gives you).

...on all three ROMs? Only for me? With this effect? On some days, it reduces my battery by 50-80%! Hard to believe it is not a bug. Also, SlimMIUI has reduced Xiaomi-Stuff, Daniel Pinto's CM 12.1 looked even more clean to me.

Aren't there different kernels out there for the RN2? Bule's Mokee-ROM uses a modified kernel e.g. Does every ROM come with a certain kernel or may it be applied from the ROM before? So maybe I am still using the kernel from Bule's Rom with my MIUI?

This will help me to read the information but it won't help to understand them, too. What do you think about this:
Kernels: You can't compile a custom kernel without the Xiaomi kernel source code. All you are left with is tinkering with ramdisk in the boot image

...is this normal? The Kernel is the biggest battery sucker on my tablet aswell (which still has great battery). What do you think about the 8,5h of wakelock time produced by the kernel? If this is the problem, what can I do to solve it?

A "screen awake" of approximately 50% seems to me to be highly excessive (at least, if the phone was mostly idle). In nearly 12 hours, I have a screen awake of 55 minutes - so 8 hours in 15 hours seems strange. How exactly were you using your phone during this 15 hour period?
Perhaps the custom boot images by @jajk might help (see the first link in http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-2/general/roll-skinny-miui-t3309873). I am currently on v714-15 of the custom boot image.
Sounds like you may be having issues similar to what I was dealing with not too long ago, but my 'solution' was to install Bule's Mokee (still don't know why this ROM worked where so many others failed). Daniel's CM 12.1 and Xiaomi.eu were both giving me significant drain with and without the screen on to the point where I was sometimes finishing the day with an hour and a half of screen on time and ~20% battery. Now I'm getting up to double that.
One thing I can recommend is using MiFlash/Fastboot to do a total reset from scratch. Didn't really work for me, but you may be different.
Other than that, although it's tedious, you may have to install 1-3 apps per day after a fresh install to see if your battery holds at first and then dies sometime after installing certain culprits. It takes forever, but at least this helped me when I moved to Mokee to make sure that it wasn't any of my 'vital' apps that were causing me issues.
Best of luck!
Funny thing that the Mokee-Rom did SOLVE your problem. In my eyes this Rom was the beginning of my problems.

What is the difference to using TWRP?
I will try the Mokee-Rom tomorrow. Since I never used MiFlash/Fastboot before I won't use it until you tell me that there is a difference compared to doing a full wipe with TWRP.
I tried flashing the Mokee-Rom again but the problems go on. I installed very few apps and the battery is still very bad. Today I had 18 minutes of SOT and though I lost 14% in a few hours. This time it was caused by Whatsapp:
It always seems that some apps just don't like to stop doing something but it's random which app is the problem.
I am totally running out of ideas so please help me guys!
I'm on Mokee and satisfied with battery, this rom have less problems than other (for me). First of all i have installed MobileRadioActiveFix with xposed, then SmartNetwork to turn off wifi while my screen is off. I've got few other things but right now i've got over 4h SOT so it is not bad score.
i have the same problem! it happens with flashing severals ROMs (mokee by bule?) and starts battery drain with all ROM, it never goes... is not the battery, the cable or the rom..... i dont know im disperate... the sot changed from 4-4.5 h to 2-2.5 h... with all ROM, please help us and sorry for my bad english
Well i had situation that my SOT suddenly got down but i was still on march rom. After update to latest version without wipe it is ok right now.
Have you tried with wiping all with internal memory? Maybe something is there still and that is making a problem.
Another thing that came to my mind: have you changed build.prop and have copy of it? If so, delete it. I had some problems becuase of that.

every rom i have flashed was a clean install (full wipe of internal) after latest miui update, when the phone shut down at 0%, i put off the battery for 10 min, after i put back and the phone was at 19%!! now is on charge... maybe the problem is solved.. i will post if it is solved (sorry for my bad english)
I had that problem with earlier phone and it drived me crazy. I was not able to find what was the cause unfortunatelly. Phone was given to service point to install branded rom (it was not available for public). Right now i do not have problems like that, if i have some i'm able to find solution somehow. Although what i wrote helped me when i saw SOT problem.

Not that I know of. I`m facing the same issues like you here.
You can try:
-discharging until the phone shuts off
-charge it in OFF mode until its full
-disconnect charger, put battery out and in again
-connect charger, charge it to 100% again...
repeat until it shows 100% when connecting the charger.
For some ppl this seems to work.
Please let me know if you find out something!
There are lots of ppl out there with exact the same issue!
BR
EDIT: Installed PSYROM V3 for testing purpose right now. Lets see how it does with skynet and a freshly calibrated Battery with the internal calibration tool of the rom. I`ll give feedback on monday.
Update to my issue:
-I did a full wipe (including internal memory)
-Installed PSY ROM V3.0 and Skynet
-Wiped cache/dalvic
-Startet the phone, installed my apps etc
-Charged it to 100%, waited 20 more minutes
-Did the Battery calibration with the internal calibration tool (everything is described in psy mans thread)
-Did a reboot
So far there is no Battery Drain, after the (long) reboot, wich took around 5-10min because miui is optimizing apps etc the phone came up with 97% and stayed there for almost an hour now.
I´ll give you guys feedback next week. Hopefully we get this sorted out.
You can try Angels & demons ROM v8.0 it is providing me with great battery life, so much better than stock or stable version of MIUI. I use Gsam battery monitor, and I have not faced that issue so far.

battery drain in idle / no deep sleep / 30% of battery gone overnight

I greet you all in the name of peace my fellow comrades.
4 days ago i joined you in the xiaomi smartphone race by buying xiaomi redmi note 3 pro. Everything was fine and nice till I found out the very first day that my phone suffers from huge battery drain overnight. I did my research about this matter already but was unable to find any clear and soul-soothing answer unfortunately, so I'd like to ask you if you could help me by sharing your experience and opinions with me.
I'm not going to pretend I'm not a hardcore noob in miui as it is my first xiaomi phone and generally flashing/rooting too since the last time i was flashing anything was like 4 years ago on my galaxy s1 i9000
So to make this post as short as possible:
I'm on stock OS - exactly as it came from the store - android v.: 5.1.1 LMY47V , security patch level 1.8.2016, miui v.:MIUI Global 8.0 | Stable 8.0.2.0(LHOMIDG) , CPU: hexa-core max 1,8GHz , no mi account yet, no unlocked bootloader, no root.
observation:
I downloaded cpu spy from google store. thanks to this app i came to know:
1- the phone never goes to deep sleep but stays on 691MHz or higher all the time.
2- after turning it off and on again, it can enter deep sleep for several hours. then I browse a little on wifi, check gmail and so on or whatever.. after some time, the phone usually doesn't get to deep sleep anymore.
- in battery use, android system and android are shown as the two major culprits (high percentage). When i click on the "android" process, high "keep awake" time is only present here. not in "android system"
cause?
D) Google Services? http://en.miui.com/thread-356299-5-1.html according to another guy, "they are working on a fix" -?
E) fingerprint wakelock? http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/development/kernel-t3414884 fix by flashing older modem - doesn't seem like my problem,. but what do i know right?
F) something else?
fix?
A) should i try to upgrade to 8.0.6.0.LHOMIDG | stable ? not sure, because miui forums are filled by users complaining about bad battery drain in this version.
B) Do i need to unlock it and get another ROM to solve this problem? According to this guy, changing ROM didn't help him https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/5af17d/battery_drain_on_xrn3_pro/ i try to avoid flashing as long as possible
C) is there even a fix?
I already went through this guide, but it didn't solve the problem http://en.miui.com/thread-339815-1-1.html
I bought a new phone and expected it to be working right out of the box, instead I've been just googling and googling for the past 4 days to no avail. I'm really confused and desperate in this matter and don't think I'd be able to continue looking and find a fix to this problem just by myself.
What should i do? I have time till next week's Wednesday to return it back to the store for full refund... or should I return it right away without any hesitation?
Thank you in advance for your reaction.
I've had this phone for some months now, and with normal daily usage and a custom rom, I can make it 4-5 days with 1 charge which is nearly impossible with MIUI ROMs; from personal experience at least. If you do not want to upgrade/change your rom, I would suggest you unlock your bootloader and root your phone. After that you could try installing "Greenify" from Play Store which really helps hibernate apps. I've been using it for over a year and it makes my battery life last at least 2-3 days more with normal everyday use. If that doesn't help either, you could try installing a custom rom which generally is "lighter" compared to MIUI roms. Hope I helped, good luck.

MIUI doesn't need Greenify because it kills apps automatically by default. I use it on all my devices except my RN3P.
My suggestion would be to go into the permission manager first and disable everything but the non-essential functions. Next go to background permissions in Additional Settings and do the same. It took me a few weeks to get things working properly and now I average about 6-7 hours of sot.
I still have some apps that keep occasionally have long keep awakes but force stopping them brings them back to normal. For example a 30 minute keep awake from bbm will show as only 5% on the stats but will account for a full 10% per hour on it's own. I've now removed it from the whitelist and allowed miui to control it. Hope this helps.

Freaky situation, any clues people ??

Hi All knowledgeable folks / @linusdan
Ok, so I've tried to re-build my dad's S2 (i9100P) which he has had for a couple of years. All appeared ok at first, although suffering battery drain recently... He tried a couple of batteries, as he has about 2 or 3 batteries lying around (as they are so cheap). Neither seemed to make much difference, so I said I would wipe the phone and start again. Whilst switching in and out of Recoveries, I noticed the battery go from like 93% to 80% to 60% to 20% to 13% in a very very short time. Equally strange when it was at its lowest, 13% and leaving it charging for a few minutes... say around 15 minutes, it then jumps up to like 70%.
So I switch the battery over for another one. I have a little play around with the phone, thought I'd try a new Android 9 / PIE rom and use Emulated Storage. However I thought this rom, as amazing as it is... would not be for my dad. I tried a couple of others out, and dropped him down to a Android 6 / Marshmallow rom. Purely based on speed, lean and fairly decent battery usage. I took the phone to the pub, played around and all seemed good. Stable, no crashing, but due to playing around... Thought I'd flash it again, and start a fresh.
However now...
Straight after flashing the rom, it will constantly reboot at the login screen. If I unlock the phone, then things like the default Launcher will crash, as will Google Music, Settings and File Manager. So I tried another rom, Nougat and Lollipop, and they both randomly crash too...
So I hooked it up to Odin, and used the STOCK partition (PIT) file and STOCK rom (Orange UK 4.1.2) and returned it back to FACTORY settings. Now all seems good again, battery seems to last a long time and had ZERO crashing since back to stock. However, so that he can use a Smartwatch I got him, he needs a minimum of KitKat on the phone....
However, why do you think the phone will be constantly crashing now ?? Has something died inside, and what could of died?? Why is it stable on stock and not on custom roms?? It used to be fine on customs before hand...?? Any idea's??
Model: i9100P
ROM: Resurrection Remix LP, MM, N, O... and Pixel PIE. Currently back to Resurrection Remix MM.
Partition: RePit, 2GB System, 6GB Data, rest to SDCard
Batteries: Tried a couple of batteries, still got a couple more could tried... all supposedly genuine...
Cheers, Lister
