Eh. It's still in dev.
There are recovery flashable zips [update using updater app] available, if you flash them, you'll loose data.
I didn't updated mine too, I'm still with 6.0.1, it's the stable one for me.
I don't wanna update to Nougat based Miui as I got my device unlocked earlier today, I'll be flashing Custom Roms. Will ditch Miui. :silly:
I suggest you to just stick with 6.0.1 based Miui rom, it's the stable one, as far as I know, Nougat based Miui Roms are in dev, so once you flash em you'll loose data + it'll be difficult to revert to stable versions.
So stick with 6.0.1, otherwise get your phone unlocked, flash custom ROMs.
Or wait for stable Miui [Nougat based] release.

Thanks for your suggestions i will stick on it. I wanted it because on additional setting / Region there is not listed my Country nor United States. I thought update will solves that.

Update:
Miui 10 8.11.1 Android Pie: http://bigota.d.miui.com/8.11.1/miui_MI8Global_8.11.1_ed2903c393_9.0.zip
What's the changelog?
Sent from my MI 8 using Tapatalk
Maybe it has ARB, so keep eyes opens (on xiaomi.eu the new roms based on android 9 are marked with “Anti Roll Back” )
Looks like its still android 8.1 by the filename.
I flashed this. This is also global beta, but the closed nightly one. I am unsure of the changelog (no permission)
I've read some comments saying the number at the end of the ROM file represents the Android version (It's still 8.x Oreo).
miui_MI8Global_8.9.4_5162352d78_8.1.zip
According to the mi forums there are just some bug fixes. Nothing new at all. The software developers of Xiaomi are seriously a joke. There's still no official stable even after three months after release of their allegedly flagship that got unveiled with MIUI 10. The Chinese and global version differs in features (Chinese shows WhatsApp notifications in the Always On screen for example), the cheap ass Mi8se got miui10 already, but the flagship doesn't, ok Google never worked in any Rom so far and not to forget the whole discussion about bootloader's or GPS. It's a ridiculous failure so far in my opinion

I need tonwait 720 hours to unlock. Is it ok to flash it via updatet or better to wait for the fastboot/unlocked bl?
just flash via updater like me. just make sure u have a global version mi 8.
Is it really based on Android 9.0?
It's not, how do you get that idea? Funny thing is, that the roms get worse with every update IMHO. The best working so far was actually 8.8.7. With 8.8.21 some of the gestures stopped working and the AOD flashed white before activating, additionally it became slow and laggy after some time without reboot. The AOD is fixed now, gestures still doesn't fully work, same goes for "ok Google". Why the Chinese version supported WhatsApp notifications in the AOD and the global doesn't is another oddity. I'm not impressed.
Fastboot link: http://bigota.d.miui.com/8.9.6/dipper_global_images_8.9.6_20180906.0000.00_8.1_global_f75c6cea8d.tgz
Will data be erased if I update from updater? I am still on latest global stable.

Global 8.9.6 is still Oreo. To be exact: 8.1.0 OPM 171019.026 Tapping 8.1.0 shows Oreo cookie. Hope that answers.
Hi guys,
I think those questions are not new but i not find up to date and really complete thread for this.
I want to run with lineageOS on my S9+ like my old OnePlus One.
I read many threads about camera. It use a closed software but with GCam port what fonctions are break ? aperture OK ? Gcam can run without google play service ?
Others features are breaks ? (i know for samsung software like knox, i mean hardware features like VoLTE)
On Lineage, i can use full encryption and after update OS with TWRP (twrp have no problem for decrypt phone and apply update ?)
Thanks o/
The gcam port is working but the flash is still buggy.

Yes the camera works and the video recording..but definitely not as good and stable as the touchwiz stock camera...
Thanks for your response.
And for others features like VoLTE, you know if it's OK ?
I have Xiaomi Mi 8 with MIUI 10.2.1.0 Global Stable and I would like to downgrade to MIUI 8.12.20. so I have 2 questions :
* Where to download the MIUI 8.12.20 rom ?
* How to downgrade from MIUI Stable 10.2.1.0 to MIUI 10 8.12.20 ?
I'm a new user of Xiaomi phones, I have no idea from where to start. I google those questions and I read a lot of contradictory informations (some says that it's not possible to downgrade, others says that you just have to flash it, ...). I installed android device bridge and fastboot. Also applied to unlock the bootloader today so I have to wait a while to be able to unlock it for real.
Can you please help me ?
If you can unlock your bootloader you can use mi flash and fastboot to flash beta rom.

you can download recovery rom from en.miui.com and flash though updater app in system settings, backup your data first it will clean all device data
Thank you for your answer. I read that the rollback protection will brick the phone if I try to install a older version my rom. A beta version will skip that check ?
Why would going from android pie stable to android pie beta ever trigger arb?
Actually the entire premise makes no sense... 8.12.20? Stable? Wat?
Miui 8 on mi 8? Wat?

Ok thanks. So I'm on a stable miui 10 build 2.1.0 and I need to install developer build from 3 weeks ago (probably miui 10 but not sure).
I'm trying to install the required version of miui to install havoc ROM. It is written in the ROM requirement that I need to install 8.12.20 and then flash the ROM on top of it.
So if I got it, I need to wait for the unlocking of the bootloader and then install the developer build.
Does it change something if I download the MIUI 8.12.20 from xiaomi.eu ? I don't find that rom on en.miui.com. Do you know any trusted source to download ROM ?

Good to know. Thanks for the information.
Can someone confirm that there is no risk to flash miui Dev 8.12.20 on top on miui global stable 10.2.1.0 ? No risk for arb ?
And is it possible to reinstall an official version of miui in the future after flashing developer build then custom ROM ?
Yes you'll need to unlock bootloader to install custom rom.
No you dont have to wait to install global beta, you can do that straight from the miui updater on your phone (three dots \ choose update package)
It'll factory reset your phone.
I don't know if you can go from 10.2.x.x stable straight to 8.12.20 beta but the updater will tell you.
Worst case you'll have to downgrade to an earlier stable release first.
The miui updater will never allow you two trigger arb and arb will only ever get triggered when trying to downgrade the ANDROID version.
Google to find out how to check the current status of arb via adb

To move from stable to beta I need to unlock the bootloader and this operation takes a while if I understood coreectly. I just applied to unlock my bootloader so I presume I have to wait around 15 days to be able to start, is it correct ?
I did not get why I would have to pass by an earlier stable release first, can you give me more informations please?
Thank you, really appreciate. Was completely lost regarding all those things.

Another question to install my new rom, which version of TWRP should I install ? There are many version for xiaomi (wzsx, FireDance-Edition, and many others). Is there any difference ? I just want TWRP, but I don't understand why there are so many different versions of the same recovery for the same phone... Someone understood that ?
EDIT: a user from xiaomi.eu told me to take TWRP FireDance-Edition for the many languages included. Is it a good choice ?

Well, 8.12.20 it's based on MIUI10. If you want to go Beta, just flash 9.1.10 Global Beta, that it's the latest build.
There's a ton of guide on official en.miui.com, just follow them!

9.1.10 is better than 8.12.20, and as I said on Havoc thread the 8.12.20 is the minimum base firmware required, not the only one.
Feel free to try what you want
Other than that, use latest PitchBlack Recovery (based on 3.2.3 TWRP) as recovery.

Interesting. Which miui version would be better to take? Is there one more stable than the other? Is it better to install the latest beta and flash havoc on top of it?
Thank you for pitch-black recommandation. Seems to be a fork of twrp, what your motivation to go with that one instead of twrp?
Your help is yeally appreciate Thanks you for taking the time to answer those questions.
I would stick with whatever the ROM maintainer recommends for firmware. See link got -perfect example of why:

If it can be reversed, at least I did it from Android 11 (miui 12.1.1), I was in global miui 12.0.3 and also tried miui eu, however I ended up going back to the factory ROM.
The best ROM for the mi note 10 Lite is miui 11.0.8 in performance and battery.

This can be concluded as 'Do not update.'
The main concern now is about the old security patch, which may risk the data in the device from hacking. An alternative attempt to fix security problems is to install trusty ( I mean famous and good rated) antimalware app(s), which may take a little bit of storage and use a little bit of battery.
AOSP or debloated roms can be also nice battery-wise and speed-wise, but there are stability concerns, bugs and can also affect security.

The issue of security is relative in the devices because it will depend on the type of use you give it, personally I still do not think there is a stable and secure ROM better than Miui 11.0.8 (at the moment).
As I discussed earlier, I have tested all the official ROMs on this device and none will be better in fluidity and battery management than the factory ROM.
We'll see what happens to miui 12.5, but for now I'm staying where I am.

It may be worth mentioning that it is rumored that MIUI 12.5 is fluid but battery is still kind of, bad. The MIUI 12.5 is still in alpha state (China devloper version) though, hope that the battery drain is fixed in the final stable build.
We might need to wait for MIUI 13 and probably battery life will get better...

Hello friend ..
I found the performance and battery problems in the global versions 12.0.3 and 12.1.1, in the same way in the custom ROM of miui.eu 12.0.3.
I understand that Xiaomi does not remove the warranty for unlocking the bootloader, but still, I think you can try updating to the version of miui 11.0.8 because it runs very smoothly for me and is the best.
