Hello friends,
I was using the latest MIUI 9 (9.5.6.0 I think). Yesterday I got an update to 10.1.1.0 OTA.
I had unlocked bootloader, rooted device using Magisk and custom recovery(PitchBlack).
When I downloaded the update and clicked to reboot, it went to recovery and when it completed some process I clicked to reboot to system and I am now stuck with only MI.com logo with nothing else.
I read this thread - https://en.miui.com/thread-274589-1-1.html but I'm confused now since many threads are regarding with locked bootloader. I'm unsure if my bootloader is locked again or is still unlocked. I am afraid of anti-rollback feature if it has anything to do with my device because I don't want to hard brick it.
Also can someone link from where I can download the latest fastboot ROM, since from this link - http://en.miui.com/a-234.html I cannot download and also what is the extension of fastboot ROM (zip/tar)?
Can anyone please help me with a simple guide ?
EDIT : Got the fastboot ROM - https://in.c.mi.com/thread-1703429-1-0.html

Dont flash miui global using twrp.
Ur bootloader is relocked.
Download fastboot tgz extension rom. Extract the folder. And flash it in EDL mode using miflash.
How to put in edl mode. Follow this thread.

Thanks for clarifying that bootloader is relocked.
Can I follow this procedure to flash in MiFlash - https://en.miui.com/a-234.html ?
Also can I choose "save user data" radio button instead of "clean all" to save my apps and data ?

Did u officially unlocked ur bootloader?
If u officially unlocked ur phone then check bootloader status using below fastboot command using pc.
fastboot oem device-info
If Unlock = false then its relocked.
Yes u can use userdata save option. But if device doesnt boot after mi flash then u must use clean all option.

Alright. So without EDL mode, I should follow this guide https://en.miui.com/a-234.html
Also which recovery do you use to have MIUI OTA updates ?
Do you recommend RedWolf or any other since zcx recovery is too old.

Thats correct. U can download fastboot tgz rom and follow those instruction fron official site.
If u want to stay on miui global rom then why u want twrp? U can update miui OTA using miui updater.
TWRP are for flashing custom roms. If u use twrp for flashing miui ota then u might put phone in bootloop again.

If u like miui and twrp both . then flash miui Eu ( europe) rom.
It is custom rom version of miui.
It is best and lightest. No unnecessary heavy bloated gapps. Only playstore.
Its certified by xiaomi. It is battery optimised and kernel tweaks and performance.
U can flash it using latest twrp 3.2.3. No relock of bootloader.
But first u recover ur device.

Hey Guys
I recently flashed the dev rom from here http://en.miui.com/download-301.html
Now I want to go back to the global stable rom which is also on the same site.. I tried downloading it and flashing it through the updater app but it says "Couldn't verify package". I tried using the MiFlash guide from here http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=235865 but it gives an error saying "Cast is not valid".. How do I go back to global stable?
Thanks in advance
If you have unlocked bootloader than you can download the fastboot rom and flash in custom recovery.
else flashing the fastboot rom with miflash tool is the only way.

Hi, frendz pls help me
I have unlocked my bootloader unofficial way without permission from xiaomi, with emmc_appsboot.mbn file replacing in fastboot ROM, now my question is, if i mistakenly flash official xiaomi fastboot ROM without removing emmc_apsboot.mbn file from ROM folder what will happen, will my redmi note 3 brick by this.
Flashing fastboot rom won't brick but flashing miui recovery roms without removing emmc_apsboot.mbn will brick your phone.

You are not supposed to flash in fastboot mode!!!! For MiFlash to work, you need to get your phone into EDL (Emergency Download) Mode, the one in which the screen shows nothing and only the LED blinks in RED.
Connect your phone to PC in that EDL mode, and then open MiFlash. And as far as I remember, you need to have a 64-bit windows to run the latest MiFlash.
If u connected successfully, click on the Refresh button, and it will show something like COM1/COM2... etc. Then CLICK on Flash.
Have u tried with latest version of miflash tool..try it properly...?or u can flash it through cmd...just google it for the commands.. Try at ur own risk...I am happy with edl on miflash 15.something

I don't think there is any other way other than the EDL method for flashing official ROMs.
I just wanted to know that is there any method that helps flashing roms using unlocked bootloader because there are lot of guides on internet saying flash rom with locked bootloader so i wanted to know is there a plus point in flashing roms with unlocked bootloader
If you have unlocked BL you can flash via twrp or fastboot or EDL, so three options...
EDL if others two dont work
Look fastboot & recovery both are there for a reason,
What i feel the priority of recovery is 1st for flashing almost anything
(If Modem/Firmware or anything else seems to have causing the problem)
USE fastboot & if you are hardbricked or can't figure out what you are missing only then head over for EDL.
But don't EDL>>Fastboot>>Recovery
Now to address your questions more specifically
Loked Bootloaders are good for Security but not friendly when you are a TWRP addict on the other hand Un-Loked Bootloaders puts the responsibility of security on your hands allowing you to modify whatever partitions or files you want to change on system.
With a loked bootloader you may flash a rom but sooner or later you will realize its better to have it unloked if u love to be a tinker.

Hi,
I just got this Redmi Note 3 because I wanted a device with good support for LineageOS (I'm tired of Samsung...)
I have the PRO version (with dual SIM) and MIUI Global 8.0 stable (so the codename is KENZO).
I'm following this guide https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/kenzo/install to get LineageOS up and running.
For my understanding (because I have the "global" MI rom), my bootloader is not locked (but how I can be sure?).
Following the LineageOS installation guide I have installed TWRP and flashed LineageOS + Open GApps ARM64 + LineageOS su addon.
The phone is booting with LineageOS, but I can see nothing apart the boot animation (waited 1 hour, but no luck).
I have tried installing only LineageOS without GApps or su, but with no luck.
I have tried 3 different snapshot of LineageOS with no luck.
Before flashing I clean system/data/cache/dalvik.
What I'm missing?
Thanks for any help or idea :fingers-crossed:
Take a look at this article to find out whether your bootloader is locked or unlocked. If it's locked, I would suggest you unlock it officially, then try installing the ROM from the beginning. Good luck.

Any other ideas?

if your bootloader is unlocked, you're good to go.
(you are getting bootloops because of outdated twrp/firmware)
1. flash official twrp or zcx twrp ( search in the forum)
2. download latest stable firmware+ rom+ gapps
3. if you are using miui, backup your internal storage to pc or otg drive.
4. go to twrp, wipe dalvik+data+system+internal storage
5. after that click "format data"
6. then install firmware+rom+gapps
7. reboot
note: as u format internal storage, u'll need a otg drive to flash rom+gapps. u can also use adb push commands. official unlock is mandatory. if you're not sure your device is unlocked officially or unofficially, u might have to flash miui fastboot rom, then get the permission
