I took a gamble buying a Chinese phone redmi-note 2 but sadly! it hasn't worked out for me.
All I wanted from it, was for it to do what it is supposed to do.
Bluetooth
Bluetooth doesn't connect to any of my devices, car, Hi-fi and not even my nexus 7!
Miui updater
Totally useless on my phone. This app crashes every time I select "choose update package"
I have looked for help on YouTube but the majority of videos seem to be Indian, using Indian versions of software where the updater app seems to work perfectly.
I managed to root my nexus 7 with ease but the redmi-note 2 is a nightmare.
I could really do with some of you android guru's to point me in the right direction! in finding a good beginners guide to finding all the apps and suitable rom for my phone, Or better still.! A way to get Bluetooth to work.
First of all check if your device has official rom or custom (if you bought it from China it probably has custom rom so flash official one).
Mine is working very good...
I second what ibeqa said - you're probably running a crapware-loaded ROM. Crashing updater is a good hint. You could also look into "about phone" section for the MIUI version, if it's something like 9.99.99 then it's crapware. "Legit" ROMs have version 7.xx.yy or 6.xx.yy. The crapware ROMs are IMHO the main reason why Xiaomi decided to lock the bootloader on RN3 and other newer phones. Because obviously, those ROMs give them bad reputation even though it's not their fault.
Bluetooth works fine for me, but sometimes it hangs up forcing me to restart it - not optimal but doesn't happen too often.
As for rooting, rooting the Nexus 7 (2012) was the same as RN2 for me - connect to PC in fastboot mode, flash recovery.img, reboot to recovery and flash a custom ROM. There are enough guides out there. For the RN2, fastboot can be accessed by starting the phone with the volume down key pressed.
Agree with the above. Please re-flash using official ROM via fastboot method and then try again. See http://en.miui.com/a-234.html
Android version 5.02 LRX22G
MIUI Version 66.77.33.00(LHMCNCH) Stable

I Have downloaded Update supersu 2.4 and miui HMNote2Global v7.2.2.0LHMMIDA_DA_d71ff21b81_5.0.zip are these correct please?
I installed CWM but have read that TWRP is the one I should be using! is that correct?
The trouble with the redmi 2 ,is there is too much conflicting information out there, making it very difficult for a newbie.
Is there any other things that I need to download?
This whole thing has really put me off the Xiaomi brand. I just expected bluetooth to work ! it is supposed to be standardised worldwide.
To you Guys it is probably fun to mess about with different roms, all I wanted was a working phone.
"MIUI Version 66.77.33.00" <- that's your problem right there. You reseller installed a crapware loaded ROM and has modified the version so that you never get an update (= he can spy on you forever), had you bought from another one, you would have gotten a working phone. I know mine did.
Putting blame on Xiaomi for this is misplaced, unless you want to blame them for being dev-friendly and leaving the bootloader unlocked. They reconsidered by now, though, their newer phones are locked.
In any case, yes TWRP is the way to go personally. CWM has cut important features like backup/restore (at least the version shipped with cyanogen roms I tried), so it's basically useless.
For the ROM, if you have downloaded it from the xiaomi page, then yes. You could also get the rom from xiaomi.eu if you want to use an European language.
If you just want official MIUI then you don't need to install custom recovery (use fastboot method instead as per official instructions). In fact the custom recovery will get removed next time you receive an OTA update.
Personally I use TWRP from this link http://en.miui.com/thread-224679-1-1.html because I wanted to install root. But only do this AFTER you install a clean ROM at the first place.

I bought the phone from Gearbest.EU and expected it to be direct from Xiaomi, as I have never had a problem with this company before.
I have had another go at installing a new rom with the Mi suite and also with the miui flash tool and am not getting anywhere with it. I can't even root the damned thing as it boots into Mi when pressing vol up and start. This happened with CWM and TWRP.
I have said before, that I have little experience with android and perhaps I am going wrong somewhere! or the tutorial posters are using phones that have totally different roms to mine. ,It is very difficult when you have Indian,Chinese and global versions with many variations of each, the same seems to apply to CWM and TWRP.
Is there a way to install this via windows, ie formatting the phone and running an installer direct from pc?
I had a dabble with Linux mint and Artist in the past and found them quite user friendly, I can't believe that android is Linux based! I could have done a fresh install of windows, several times by now,the amount of time I have spent on this. Of course windows truly is global with only a couple of variations . Format disk, run and your away. Then hours installing software.
I am fast getting to the stage where I shall give it a bounce test, from a great height. :crying:
Hello from Australia,
I recently purchased the Redmi Note 4 (Global) and absolutely love it! After owning iPhone for the last 8 yrs I am finding it very refreshing. I am looking forward to being part of this Android community
My questions is this - I am very keen on rooting the device but have also found that there is a pending update to 8.5.4.0 (Miui) and 7.0 (Nougat). Will I still be able to root it after I update and if so where is the best guide for me to do this?
Many thanks

yes, you can root it after updating to 7.0. First unlock bootloder. Install twrp recovery. and then flash SuperSu zip.
Note-Dont forget to flash lazyflasher-no-verify-opt zip after flashing twrp or you would go into bootloop.

Hello, and many thanks for your quick reply. Good, I had this guide that I was going to follow but then found out about my pending update:
EDIT - sorry, had to edit the url link as I'm a new user. h t t p ://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=667496
Do you think this is the right steps for me to follow? also, I have never flashed or tweaked an Android phone so don't know how to do the flashing of lazyflasher-no-verify-opt zip. I don't see that in the steps. How exactly do I do that? Do you have a link?
Thank you.

steps given in the guide are almost correct.First unlock bootloader which is the biggest hassle in whole process. Probably you wont be able unlock bootloader in first few tries as mi unlock tool will probably stuck at 99% and show error "account not binded to device".You can wait a few days and try again but i dont think that will work. To solve this problem what i did was-
download miui developer rom version 7.2.16 link-http://bigota.d.miui.com/7.2.16/miui_HMNote4XGlobal_7.2.16_e6eed016d8_6.0.zip
Now go to updater app choose downloaded zip as update package. Now updater would start decrypting it and your phone will be updated to developer rom. Now when on developer rom go to updater app and there will be an ota for latest version, update. Now when on latest developer version try to unlock again using mi unlock tool. I dont know if it will work for you but it worked for me.
Now your bootloader is unlocked, go to mido section in xda forums and download twrp for redmi note 4. To flash twrp recovery, there are many ways. process given in your guide may also work. But what I did was downloaded "mini flasher" link-"https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=25193&task=get" install mini flasher.choose install twrp, browse to the recovery image you downloaded and it will automatically flash it and reboot your phone to recovery.
Now when your phone is in recovery mode coose 'install'
choose the lazyflasher zip file you earlier downloaded. now reboot. again go to recovery install SuperSu zip file(link given your guide) reboot. your phone will probably bootloop one time but dont worry it is fine. now when your phone reboots it is rooted.
Well I sucessfully updated the phone to Nougat and it was very easy.
Now I have tried to unlock the bootloader but keep getting this message:
您所在的IP申请次数超标
I have googled it and it says I have tried too many times from my IP address. But I haven't - this was the first time. I have tried 3 times, with the same result.
Does anyone know how to get around this problem?
Thanks
The nougat update eats to much ram I got only 1.3 GB free ram
You could try Miui 9 beta channel after miui 8.5 update without unlocking or rooting. Just had to download the miui 9 recovery rom package. Place it in folder named downloaded-rom. Backup your imp data before proceeding. Goto the updater app or settings about, tap three dot menu. Choose update and select the downloaded file. It will erase all your data and update to miui 9.
They release updates weekly. And battery backup is outstanding.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73086754&postcount=124
Anyone able to help with this? I have read it is a common issue for it to incorrectly say you have had too many attempts but not really any conclusive answer as to how to get around the problem.
I am really keen on unlocking my bootloader. Thanks in advance.
Hi all,
Feels good to be back.
let's cut to the chase, Im looking for a new Custom ROM for my RN3 Kate Device(as I always used MIUI Stable ROMs, currently MIUI10); I kept looking at all those ROMs/versions ( and some kernels ) and it's stupidly overwhelming, I can't even count them anymore; dont get me wrong tho, its a good thing.
Since Q3 2018 I've been using my RN3 Kate mostly for gaming, but also, browsing / Mail / Youtube. My RN3 It's no longer my daily driver.
So, I should be looking at performance/gaming ROMs (/Kernels), not customization centered ROMs, right ? The problem is, how can I distinguish between them ?
I mean, back in day almost every ROM/Kernel had, like, 7 or 8 lines explaining what the project was all about, not only that but also "101" Screenshots, performance numbers, all that jazz; Im not seeing that anymore, not for the most part, that is.
Other thing that grinds my gears, is the bootloader, in most threads it says that I need to unlock in MM (MIUI Dev ROM), I have already unlocked my RN3 in the same month I got it or something like that; The official unlocking way. Up to this very day (MM MIUI10 Global Stable), in the phone, it still says that is unlocked.
Even if I flash that latest Dev ROM, how can I unlock it again, how is that possible ? how does that even work ?
I would like to have some knowledge members to help me out on this, to give me some advices, if possible, It would be much appreciated.

If u r flashing miui fastboot rom using PC then u need to select "Clean all" option.
If u select "clean all and lock" option then ur bootloader will get relocked. So select clean all.
If your bootloader status is unlocked then good.
To check bootloader status using fastboot command.
fasboot oem device-info
If unlock= true then ur phone is jail free.
u can install latest twrp 3.2.3 img and flash custom roms.

Hi, thx for your help !
Views run fast, replies, not so much.
I see, so we no longer need to use 3th party software, thats nice…
its sure better than Sony's lack of support back in the day…
I did it, Lattest Dev ROM "kate_global_images_9.1.10_20190110.0000.00_6.0_global_a354395fdc" got flashed, and I still get the same result, its unlocked, like it should be.
Im pretty sure that Im missing some intel here, but its ok.

Based on my description, can you provide any ROM/Kernel recommendations ?

In this version Im no longer able to root; Im pretty sure I was running some moded version with SuperSU.
For those new custom ROMs the rooting method should be diferent anyway...

I see,
AEX 9.0, I like it, the gaming performance its also good, a bit better than MIUI10; nothing major, but still noticible. I cant notice any change in batery department, but it's holding up nicely (so far), I guess.
There's a major issue, Magisk (v18) was a "no go".
Some people are reporting a Error on flashing, in my case, I did NOT got any error, but it seems that it doesnt work anyway. Is there a workaround to this ?
Or maybe you could tell me any other ROM, root capable. Im willing to try it.
2014... 2019, Root its still not trivial, I guess some things doesn't change.
Edit: Nevermind, after some diging I found some people saying to keep flashing until the app show up. It doesnt make any sense, but it does work, after flashing the third time the app is now showing up. Rooted successfully.
Thx for your help, really appreciated.

U dont need to flash 3 times.
Magisk takes time to appear in first reboot. Its a bug . if it does not appear even after 5 min. Then restart phone. It will appear next reboot. I did it and it shows up in next reboot.

I understand, although, I can confirm this was not the case.
To be more precise, the phone was actually rebooted twice, before those re-flashes. The app was nowhere to be seen.
Some people are getting a error when flashing (maybe due to older versions), there's probably something wrong on their end too, in some way;
thanks for looking into that and finding that bug, I'm pretty sure other people will see this thread, just like I saw others.

Flash 17.3 magisk.
Magisk 18 is buggy.
I just received my OnePlus 7T Pro which I bought from a Chinese site. Asked for a Global ROM and it came with a flashed Oxygen 10.3.
I heard people saying it's best to flash again a rom downloaded by yourself in these cases just to be safe. Did some search and read about a lot of ways to do this: through the system updater, through recovery mode, through tools like TWRP...
My question is: what would be the better/simpler way to do this? I just want to re-flash a clean Oxygen rom before starting using my new device.
Thanks in advance to anyone who could give me some help.

Go to play store. Download oxygen updater. In settings pick full rom and the global variet or one not labeld by country. Next download full rom. After go to settings/system/update on phone. Press the setting button then pick local update. Select the file you just downloaded. Let it do its thing. Reboot at promt. Let it go till it boots back up. Go through initial setup skipping everything. Then go to settings/system/reset options and wipe everything.
You will now be on global firmware clean.
Also keep in mind the system update will not work if the rom you are flashing isn't later than the current one you are running. And if that is the case and this doesn't work. Look for the msm tool in the op7tpro thread

Actually, with the app:
MIUI Downloader - Apps on Google Play
MIUI upgrade app for Mi users.
play.google.com
searching through Xiaomi Firmware Updater is easier. The app checks your phone model, your current firmware and points you directly to download your OTA from Xiaomi Firmware Updater.
If you don't want the offered OTA, you can search for the other suitable firmwares for your phone
Even more, it shows you Xiaomi.eu Weekly and Stable ROMs, and TWRP (if applicable)
You can also manually change the phone model and search for another Xiaomi phone
Anyway, it makes searching easier and error-free (newbie, by looking at Xiaomi Firmware Updater, may easily pick a wrong firmware, resulting by bricking his phone)

It does look very useful. However if I wasn't reading a recommendation on XDA and only saw it in the Play Store I might not trust an app with this from the look of it. If it's trustworthy then great.

Actually, they have a useful TG news. Too many things, not everything for everybody but eg, useful info about roadmaps which phones will receive further updates to newer MIUI and Android versions, new phones, new ear buds, etc
If using Xiaomi.eu ROMs, you will usually see a (correct!) changelog for the upcoming weekly an hour or more earlier than posted to Xiaomi.eu forum

Good luck and enjoy your mi11 lite
P.S. my battery went ****ty on the V12.5.5.0, idk about you but I had to recharge it often...hopefully it's not a hardware problem...

What exactly do you mean by "Updater app on the phone"? I am stuck on 12.5.5.0 as well and idk what to do with it. I assume the rom you've downloaded was from MIUI Updates Tracker topic on this board? If so, which one, the Fastboot or the Recovery?
Nevermind, figured it out. Downloaded "MIUI Downloader" app from Google Play, downloaded 1 version higher than ive had. Then, I went to settings -> About phone, clicked version, clicked a few times version logo and additional settings have been enabled. Then Ive clicked the button in top right corner and selected downloaded package. The phone accepted it and installed it. Then I've proceeded with other higher versions.

Sorry for the late reply. My solution was slightly different.
I downloaded the recovery rom (so you can install it from the phone) from a website with original miui roms, placed it in the internal storage, created a folder "downloaded_rom" and then I did exactly like you (settings>about phone>clicked the 3 dots>choose update package).
After that I downloaded the latest rom from c.mi.com and that was it.
I noticed that my problem with the battery was caused by the 12.5.5 rom. Now it's good as new.
I'm glad my post helped you and hopefully will help others as well. Take care!
My phone (bought in germany, EEA-rom) was stuck at "V12.5.6.0.RKIEUXM Enhanced" since the only update I received shortly after bying in December 2021. I could resolve the issue as follows:
In the update tracker thread I verified my build version which was EEA (European) in my case. First I tried to download and install v13.0.4 directly which failed (cannot verify stable update bla bla bla). Then I tried to download and install the version that was closest to mine -> V12.5.7.0.RKIEUXM which I successfully could flash. Directly after booting into 12.5.7 I was offered another update to v13.0.4.
Did anyone have similar issues: phone would not update to latest available version? What could be the reason? Regions and Update schedules? But were now in april 2022 and my phone was still not showing any updates.
I am in Australia and have downloaded the latest firmware for the phone, Renoir, but I can't update it because the option to "choose update package" isn't available on my phone...
I downloaded the update as I am getting the problem of not being able to download the package via my phone...keep getting the error that "something went wrong. Wait a minute or two and try again". This is frustrating
I discovered the fix to my problem... If you can't see the option of selecting a package to update under the 3 dots, click on MIUI logo in the updater several times till you see a message that tells you more features have been enabled.
cheers

Didn't read the whole discussion but noticed fastboot and xiaomi.eu options...those are the best IMHO.
xiaomi.eu updates renoir (weekly or stable) with fastboot option / scripts.
There are also fastboot recoveries (not the same as xiaomi.eu fastboot ROMs, but in case something goes wrong this can help out of bad situation) and regular update ROMs on MIUI tracker just make sure to pick the correct phone/ROM version: https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/miui/
