SD Card killed? - LG V30 Questions & Answers

Hi,
yesterday i was flashing a new Pie Rom. Of course before that ive done a Full Backup via TWRP.
The Rom wasnt really satisfying, so i wanted to restore my backup but then i realized that i can´t move files bigger then 4GB´s (The TWRP Backup contained a 6GB File) from my pc to the sdcard.
I thought this must be because of the file system, so i changed my filesystem via TWRP to F2FS. Somehow ive done the restore then but my sd card was gone.
Then i went back to TWRP and tried to change the file system on my SD Card again but there was an error "Invalid Partition", so i had the idea to format the sdcard.
TWRP get stuck while formatting the SD-Card, after more then 30 Minutes i killed TWRP with holding Power and Volume down Button.
Back in TWRP i cant do anything with the card and of course in system it still wont be recognized.
I tried to wipe or format again but TWRP gives back just errors.
When i try to change Filesystem TWRP tells this facts:
Mount Point: /external_sd
File system: vfat
Present: No
Removable: Yes
Size: 0MB
Used: 0MB
Free: 0MB
Backup Size: 0MB
I cant believe the card is broken, i think i f**ked up the Partition(Table) of the card while powering off during formatting somehow.
Unfortunately i have no other possibility to check the card -> no card reader for pc or another phone.
Do somebody know this problem and is it maybe possible to fix it somehow with my phone?
Thx

Ive found a possibility to connect the micro sd to my pc via usb and even there it didnt get recognized from windows. It has found a new drive but no access and no possibility to check or repair it.
So ive tried a few 3rd party tools without success and finally with EaseUS Partition Manager i was able to format it to FAT. The card works now like a charm again. :good:

Recovery Not working

I am having problems with the recovery on my phone, it is currently Amon 1.6.2.
In recovery I cannot create nand backups or flash new roms. When trying to create a backup I get this error:
Error: run ‘nandroid-mobile.sh’ via adb!
When trying to flash new roms from SD card i get this:
E: Can’t mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
Invalid argument
E: Can’t mount SDCARD:
Any help would be extremely appreciated.
thanks very much.
Make sure your battery is charged past 25% I believe. Its a saftey feature so you won't brick your phone...
battery is fully charged.
first thing i'd try is backing up all data on SDCard... then, boot into whatever ROM you are currently using. go to Menu > Settings > SD Card & Phone Storage.
Unmount SDCard and then format card. then copy a rom.zip to your SD and boot into recovery and try again. if that doesn't work, try formatting the card in recovery, then see if it will mount as USB, copy rom.zip again and try again.
you weren't by any chance trying to resize the partitions on your phone, were you?

Titanium Backup, My Backup Pro or Sprite Backup (pay, on market).
Or search for QtADB here on XDA (not Eris specific) for telling it to backup apps and/or app settings from a Windows GUI, and it's free. Good luck.

[Q] Format EMMC by mistake - Please help!

I am a complete noob and got my lesson for messing up with my phone. I have an already rooted SGH i777 and was trying to flash OMNI Rom for 4.4. I wiped emmc by mistake. Although I did back my stuff up, they are no where to be found.I get cannot mount SD card error through CWM v6. I read somewhere that this is resultant of having no operating system in my phone anymore.
My phone is not recognised by computer. But I can access an external microSD card while booting recovery using CWM. Please help me as I am completely lost without my phone. You patience is deeply appreciated.

If that's the case, you should be able to put a rom on the micro SD card and simply flash it in recovery. You may have lost your backups, but if you can flash a rom via the SD card you ought to be fine.
Let us know if you need any more help,

I'm not clear what you mean by "I wiped EMMC." Can you please describe exactly what you did, and describe the options you used if it was through recovery, which I assume it would have been.
If you put the phone into download mode while Odin3 is open on the desktop, does Odin3 recognize the phone?
FYI: TWRP file browser sees internal memory as "emmc". From the advanced wipe menu of TWRP, exists the option to wipe internal memory.
edit: really annoyed that I am limited to eight thanks at a PC, which has a much more comfortable interface than the XDA app, where I have unlimited thanks to offer my peers.
This is what happened
Dear all,
Thank you for your help. This is what I did. I tried to install Omni ROM for 4.4. I I downloaded the .zip file for the ROM and Gapps package zip and SuperUser zip. I went to CWM based recovery mode and wiped data/factory reset and wipe cache partition and in advanced wipe dalvik cache.( I did not run any wipe script as mentioned in this forum. I would have avoided all this if i actually paid attention and read the correct way of flashing here.)
I then went on to mounts and storage and did format/cache , system, data and preload. But also format /emmc
After that no ROM could be flashed and I could not access any recoveries. I realised my error when I saw the log that No files are found and couldnt open directory.
Update :
My phone is not recognized by Odin v1.85 and I also put a SAMSUNG_UCLE5.zip for SGHi777 given by a friend on to a microSD card and tried flashing that ROM from external microSD.
The log says:
I:Can't partition unsafe device: /dev/block/mmcblk1p1
I tried to partition just to see if it works. This time the log says
I:Can't format unknown volume :/external_sd. I never had an external sd card, but I gather that the system was partitioned in such a way that one chunk is considered external_sd.
Odin doesnt recognise it in download mode. I tried every USB port, changed data cables, tried different drivers available on Samsung website.
Please tell me I didn't ruin my phone. Any help is deeply appreciated.

This is beyond my level of understanding. I'm not sure what block 1p1 is. All of the partitions are designated as 0px where x is a number 1-15~.
I assume you've tried all the variables to get Odin to recognize the phone in download mode. Since Odin doesn't recognize download mode, I don't know of anything else to do but send it to someone with jtag equipement. It'll cost you maybe 40 or 50 bucks, but at least you can get your phone back. The person most trusted in the forums here for this sort of repair is Josh at Mobile Tech Videos.

[Q] PIT Flash(repartition) failed,but its working!

Hey guys,
Today I did a repartition of my phone with the 1GB system 3 GB appstorage pit file.
I also used a PDA file with a apolo 4.x kernel(for neatrom 4.1)
Well... the flash failed...
I however could start the phone. I booted up and presente me with: type in password to access encrypted storage.
I then booted into the recovery and tried to flash a new ROM.
but emmc / the internal SD card could not be mounted.
I then formated the internal SD in windows and was able to access the card again.
But I still could not install a rom because /data could not be mounted. I formated the /data partition after "repair" under TWRP for the data partition didnt work.
I now could access all partitions and install th ROM.
I now have 1009 MB space in /system and 3GB in /data and I can also use the ROM
but why did I get an Error MSG in odin? Is everything OK with my mobile phone or should I try to repartition it again until I get a "sucessfull" MSG?
Thanks

TWRP accidentally format Internal Storage - Recovery??

Hi All,
Maybe a bit of a stupid question but accidentally change the format of my internal storage and have wiped my TWRP backup that I was trying to save.
Was meant to format my SD card so I could read it on my PC, as my phone was stuck on a boot loop from installing dorimanx kernel, was working for a little bit but the phone became extremely sluggish and then one one reboot would not get pasted the kernel splash page.
So decided to go backup the phone copy to pc them wipe and start clean. With the fun of this twrp was not showing mtp and could not read any mounted storage due to the format type decided to go a format my sd card to fat but accidentally done internal rather than external, I was falling asleep but want to try and fix this before going to bed.
Now that has happen I have mount the fat internal drive and trying to use some HDD recovery program but not sure how this will end up working, fingers cross I can get the TWRP backup.
But if anyone has any advised would greatly appreciate the help.
Dorimax kernel with twrp iso recovery, can't mount mtp or usb! flash iso rec disabler, then mount your usb partition with cwm recovery from dorimax! after that, try recuva! it will make a clone of your internal memory on hdd to access data faster! otherwise the deep scan will be very slow! try other programs! you will find your files with some programs and other files with another programs.

/system partition unmountable after flashing rom?

I have a ZTE Axon 7 (A2017U) and I'm trying to install a stock rom (A2017UV1.1.0B35). I currently have TWRP installed and an unlocked bootloader. I can access the device via fastboot and TWRP recovery mode, but otherwise it will not boot.
I'm stuck in a loop:
If I install my rom via TWRP, when I reboot the phone the /system partition is never mounted. I can see "Failed to mount '/system' (Invalid argument)" written in the log
If I view the /system partition details on TWRP's "Wipe->Advanced wipe->Repair or change file system" screen, the partition is listed as "Present: Yes, Removable: No, Size: 0MB, Used: 0MB, Free: 0MB, Backup size: 0MB
If I format the /system partition using "Wipe" function, the "Formatting system using make_ext4fs" operation succeeds and partition seems to be correctly formatted using ext4, and is listed as "Present: Yes, Removable: No, Size: 5455MB, Used: 10MB, Free: 5444MB, Backup size: 10MB
I'm able to access the partition via the terminal, and if I write a text file to it and reboot the device, I'm able to read it back... It seems the partition is working correctly.
I attempt to install the rom again using TWRP's "Install->Install zip" option, and after ~10 minutes it states that installation was completed successfully.
I reboot the device and the OS does not load. If I access TWRP, I see the /system partition is not mounted and the cycle continues
I've also tried installing other roms (e.g. Lineage OS), but they all fail assert checks, even thought I'm 100% positive they're for the correct device.
I'm tearing my hair out here. I'm a programmer by day and I'm fairly experienced with Unix, but admittedly I don't have much experience working with Android. There's a good chance I'm missing something.
Any idea what's going on, or what to try next? Is there any other information I can provide that might help me troubleshoot the problem?
I don't know of this will help, but I had a similar issue with a Samsung phone once. What had happened is when I flashed the new ROM the .dat or .img file was smaller than the original partition and it shrunk the system partition. I was lucky and I had previously dumped a copy of my system partition with terminal and was able to put it back.
When the partition was shrunk it wouldn't install any other ROM's either. If you could get another user with your same device to dump their system into an .img file we might be able to fix it with dd commands.
