German Pie on South Africa S9+?? - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

I'm a noob when it comes to certain parts of updating Android phones. I know the basics and can do the updates, but I have some concerns/questions. I see that Germany and a few countries have the stable version of Pie released. I'm from South Africa, so don't really want to wait too long for our ota updates. My questions, can I simply download the German Pie update and install via Odin or is there more I have to do first(change csc etc)? I use samsung pay as it's only been available for a month or two here, how will installing the German update affect samsung pay? I also use for streaming tv/sports DSTV now app and can use it only in SA, how will the German update affect this.? As for service providers, will I be able to use my current provider still without any issues?
Waiting to hear from you people....thanks

You can flash it mate as long as it's a SM-G965F and i've flashed successfully through ODIN on my SM-G965F/DS without wiping data as long as you will select HOME_CSC not CSC on the ODIN after you've downloaded the firmware to SamFirm or SamMobile

Thanks

Downloaded the file and unzipped..How do I make sure I get my home csc? I know I must add the various files to the various parts in Odin....If I'm not mistaken, the zip I downloaded the csc is from Germany....must I download firmware file for oreo for my home csc and then just add csc from that file location on my pc or must I leave csc blank in odin?

You can download using SamFirm even if it's depreciated, it works and make sure you have a stable internet connection

and just type SM-G965F and DBT after downloading SamFirm but before downloading it make sure you have Visual C++ 2008 installed

Hey mate. Don't suppose i could upgrade from Oreo to the new Pie release on a Telstra S9+? (assuming you went from Oreo to Pie?) Used to flash via odin many many years ago, but things seem to have changed a little since i last did this stuff on my S5 lol. Trying to play catch up at the moment of the differences/changes with flashing, and getting overwhelmed! Got the firmware downloaded and ready to go!

You can just flash straightaway, as long as after you've downloaded through SamFirm just flash everything and use HOME_CSC on the CSC field in ODIN if you want to preserve your files or just the CSC if you want a clean install

No mate, what i meant is this just the HOME_CSC if you want to preserve your files just like this on the attachment below

Thanks Allister.....Just one more noob question....when selecting the home csc in the Pie update as per attachment you added, how does the software/phone know what my home "info" is? Ain't I pulling in the German home csc? Not sure I phrased the question correctly, hopefully you will understand

Thanks Bud. Took a plunge not long after my question. Figured the Home-CSC was the way to go. Few days now on Pie and running smoothly!

HOME_CSC simply means that it will preserve your files as long as your CSC belongs to the OXM group like for example(BTU, DBT, PHN, XSA...) and so on. Also XFE(South Africa) is part of OXM group. So you can just flash the update and your CSC will retain

[Q] Change Firmware to another country

HI,
I live in Australia and bought an International version I9300 on line (French-XEF),
if I update my firmware to an Australian version will everything work like now, will it keep all current settings?
will KIES then recognise the AU version and prompt me when a new update is available?
Thanks

you can change to an Australian rom without problem, just make sure that the CSC is aligned as well as otherwise you won't get Australian OTA updates.

I think there should be some guide with more details somewhere, but basically the CSC contains provider/region specific things that are used during the OTA update process. Hence you have to make sure that, for instance if you select a UK ROM, BTU firmware, the CSC is aligned to BTU, otherwise OTA will not recognize it. Furthermore you need original status in about phone.
If you just want to use KIES, you can have root, whereas after upgrading with KIES it will be un-rooted. Hope it helps!

de-branding the S6 Edge

Hi folks!
Getting my S6 Edge on Monday the 13th.
My phone will be delivered with carrier branding - boot animations and added bloatware.
Since SammMobile released the official firmwares, i wanted to know if any of those firmwares can help me "de-brand" my phone (install stock Samsung rom)
Anyone know what does "Country/Carrier - Unknown" - means?
I cannot post any links yet
I would also be interested in this as my phone has come full of Three bloat ware and boot animations. I would much rather have a stock rom. Plus it does not have the A-Z option in the launcher for apps.

As far as I'm aware you can flash the BTU firmware (stock, no branding) using Odin
Firmware can be obtained from Sammobile
And I've been told this can be done without tripping Knox

This is also a concern - i don't want to trip Knox a this point. Can someone confirm?
Also as i have seen on Sam-mobile, there are a lot or ROMs with different carriers/countries, can someone please explain the difference between them?
Are they "Branded" and come with bloatware or just region-linked?
Because there is also "Unknown" version in that list. Does it means Stock international ROM?
Can confirm I have flashed the UK BTU firmware over three firmware with no issues what so ever. Knox hasn't been tripped and all bloatware has gone. Although still no A-Z sorting of menu.
I really hope we can do this on AT&T without tripping KNOX. I'm sure it would remove all that BS AT&T puts on the phone.
The ATT models have app drawer sorting? It's a stand alone A-Z toggle in the top right of the app drawer
T mobile does
EDIT: Nevermind my previous post at this place. Seems like Sammobile is having troubles and gave me the wrong firmware file (S6 instead of S6 edge). Or I was to tired, that's why Odin said "FAIL"
I just unbranded my s6 edge by flashing the german firmware from sammobile successfully. I accidentially didn't even unencrypt my phone before and it works.
All Data is still there and the apps did update on first start.
Knox not tripped.
has anyone found the USA t mobile firmware for the edge on sam mobile yet? (SM-G925T)
I've only seen it on junk sites like Rapidgator, and Upload.to
thanks

So it doesn't matter which firmware i would flash? (Germany, turkey etc'....)
I haven't seen t mobile edge firmware on sammobile yet; its on rapidgator and upload to, but it will take 8 hours to download..
and I would NOT risk trouble by flashing anything but t mobile usa firmware, but hey, its your phone to do what you want with..
How long do sammobiles downloads take
on a free account, probably 2 hours; less if you pay for a premium account I assume
but as of this am, the t mobile edge version isn't there yet

The firmware must be for your device and it should be made for your region. I can assume that if you flash another one you might have troubles with the mobile phone network.

Flashing official firmwares via ODIN will not trip KNOX. Use SAMMOBILE to download the one you want.
Use also the latest ODIN software version.
Some official firmwares come with some bloat apps but they can be easily uninstalled.

change csc from UAE to MXO

Hi all
I have some doubts about changing the csc, I've been looking on the web and here but still have massive doubts
I have a n950F/DS with OXM csc, currently pointing to UAE, cannot make samsung pay work, my cards are mexican.
so far I've understood this about the process
1.- downloaded odin and the bellow firmware from sammobile
Product code MXO
PDA N950FXXS3CRF1
CSC N950FUWB3CRE3
2.- Install MXO firmware by adding all four files, using csc file instead of home_csc
3,- let it boot and set up device, with out sim
4.- flash OXM firmware, all 4 files
5.- let it boot up with sim inserted and set it up.
I think those are the steps to make samsung pay work for my region but still not sure
Please let me know if I'm wrong, I really want to use the full potential of this phone.
Do you think is better to stay with MXO insteam or OXM?
thanks
I've changed mine twice now, once to o2 firmware and then to three firmware both for the UK on a 950f without any bother I flashed all 4 each time and used the home csc and all works well here

thanks for replying,
let me see if I understand, I need to flash the whole 4 files so I can change csc? when to use home csc?
could you help me with the steps?
thanks!
I downloaded the firmware I wanted from updato and used Odin to flash each of the 4 files so I would have a phone as if I'd bought it from 3 network so I could use wifi calling and 4g calling
This is what I have now after changing to it

home_csc file, what does it do? is that the main one to force the csc to change? or do I always have to use csc_ file only?

Android P Beta for Samsung Galaxy S9+ outside USA/GER/UK

Hi. I can't wait for another 3 months to get Android 9 together with One UI. I hoped that I can get beta version, but unfortunately it's available in selected countries only.
I thought that I will be able to bypass that block with VPN, I did it once for Good Lock 2018 using this post from Reddit. But I didn't succeed with the Android P beta.
The thing is, you need to use Samsung Members app to participate in testing, but looks like it detects your country using CSC. I have no other idea because I pulled out a SIM card from the smartphone, activated VPN, disabled GPS. But I still couldn't trick it.
So my question is, do you have any other ideas how I can install beta version of Android P? Should I wait for the ROM here at the forum? Or maybe I can change CSC someone without root (yes, I checked the forum but there's still no clear answer if I can do it or not as of 14th of November, 2018)? Appreciate any ideas

BTU should be fine, that's the one that I want to try as well. As for the SIM card, don't think that it's actually needed.
I flashed BTU firmware, but for some reasons, it didn't apply.. I still have the same CSC and my regional apps are still there. Does anyone have any idea why it could have happened?
UPD. Looks like I was able to install BTU. At first, I flashed AP, but I had to flash CSC as well. So I did it in 2 steps. After flashing CSC my smartphone reloaded into recovery menu. I made factory reset from there and that's it!

I suggest you to read the old beta threads from last year. As far as i remember you need a SIM-Card, for example Lyca, wich can be changed to different countries via SIM-Tool App. but lets see if the beta arrives today after all.

Not sure now.. When I was setting up the phone after clean install, everything looked like it was BTU. But I didn't find beta invitation in Samsung Members. But it could work though, as I have Bixby voice now (it wasn't available before). I'll post here once I have any updates.

Now you can not change CSC code with firmware + SIM-card

I could easily change the CSC code on my Note9: just installed OXM firmware + factory reset with needed code SIM-card (Thailand for example). But this method does not work anymore. How to change a CSC code on S10?
At least on S8(without the sim card), I would flash a firmware of my choice and and then entered bootloader one time and restarted the phone. I don't know if the procedure has changed with S9 or higher model
This method works for S9/S9+/Note9 but with S10 not ;(
Any news on this issue? Trying to change the region from CAC to SER, with Russian SIM in roaming, and get CAU CSC.
I Will keep an eye on this as I just received a Duos 973F and i cannt switch CSC.

I suppose you flashed a whole new firmware? I did the same. It was branded as DBT but now I have BTU, same as you. I.e., I seem to have the same multi-CSC. I cannot set it to DBT, though. I think this is what the OP asked.
The CSC will change depending on what SIM card you have in the device when you flash. ?
I think you need root if you want to manually change CSC.

Flash the phone with the firmware for your region with the SIM card in the device using the wipe CSC package, i.e. the one that doesn't start with "HOME" in it's name, and then when the phone restarts it should detect the SIM card region and load a CSC for that country.

My carrier ROM is not multi CSC though.
Click to collapse
Maybe flashing a multi CSC you can change it. Have you tried?
