Vibration pattern edit removed .168 - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Questions & Answers

Got 168 update in Australia and before this I could edit the vibration pattern for notifications to make shorter bursts etc (in the sounds menu. )I cannot find this setting anywhere now. Either i'm confused about the setting location or its gone. Can someone on 126 or 146 tell me if they still have that feature? I hate when updates remove features.

How to turn of vibrate on exchange mail

Hi
Love the S3
However, i cannot for the life of me figure out how to disable vibration when recieving a mail on my exchange account...
I have my phone set to vibrate only all the time, and i want it to vibrate only when recieving a call or a text...
However it always vibrates when recieving exchange mail! It does NOT vibrate when recieving gmail... If i switch off the exchange tray notification it does NOT vibrate. However i want the tray/led notification, but no vibration... Im 99% sure this is how it is on SGSII, Galaxy Nexus and so on...
Any ideas?
Under settings vibrate somewhere there is a setting for auto vibrate/auto haptic.
Check if it's active for the exchange app. You can either disable it for only exchange or disable the feature altogether.
I'm imagining it's not a small oversight by you about forgetting to untick vibrate alert in the exchange mail app itself.

No auto haptic is disabled, otherwise everthing will vibrate
Notifications are set to silent..
There are no option to select vibrate or not in the e-mail app...

I don't know if this will work, I only just flipped it myself:
In the file /data/data/com.android.email/shared_prefs/AndroidMail.Main.xml, I've set the line <boolean name="<UUID>.vibrate" value="false" />. Before it was true. The <UUID> is a (surprise) UUID, that I'm guessing identifies the account; a guess that other lines in the file seems to support.
Try it out. It might work. When I find out either way, I'll post back, but I wanted to share my findings ASAP.
EDIT: You need root for this to work, obviously. Those files are protected against fiddling from the regular user.
Hmm i think you have a point.. There are quite a bit of references to vibrate ,including one set to "always" in the files in that folder, which i set to "never"... I edited around a bit with root explorer, which creates a .bak file, but the changes seem to be reverted when rebooted, and the .bak files are deleted as well...
I hardly have time now, but over the weekend i will mess around with it a bit...

Hmm, no dice. The setting that seems to be the right one, which is in com.android.email_preferences.xml and called <string name="account_settings_vibrate_when">always</string> can be set to "never", but whenever I enter the settings screen from the phone, it reverts back to 'always'.
I have also fiddled around in the database files, thinking that maybe the xml got overridden from a database value, but no dice.
I have found a work around temporarily before they update the software with a more discrete management of vibration in different notifications.
Under settings - sounds - vibration intensity you can set the notification vibration to nil.
I primarily use this for it to only vibrate when phone call comes and all other notification i only want sound and no vibration.

Problem is that also turns off vibration for texts/SMS'es, and I don't want that (turns out BTW that the stock Samsung SMS-app also lacks a vibration option in its notification settings... a trend?). It sucks balls.

Yay! After the latest Samsung firmware update (I9300XXBLFB), a 'Vibrate' checkbox has appeared in the settings for the email app. Sadly, still nothing in the SMS app. But it's a start.

Hi all
I upgraded my S3 to Android 4.0.4 yesterday on Rogers in Canada and it's running even better.
The only issue I noticed is regarding the vibration notification form the native email app. I used to not get notified when I was on a call and an email comes through. Now, it vibrates every time i get an email while on a call. i did find the setting in the email app to remove the vibration notification but it removes it completely even when not on a call and also when it's in vibrate mode??
for Gmail it's working well, only get a silent status bar notification which is what I want.
does anyone experience the same? let me know what I should do. it's frustrating to get that vibrating noise while on a call. i did try the kill the duck app but it didn't work....
Thanks

Thanks... but already have tried that. It works for all apps except for the native email app. Seems that after the update to Android 4.0.4, after they've added the vibration notification option, it seems to override all other vibrate notifications.
So for instance if i tick off that option in the native email app settings... and my phone is on vibrate, i won't get the vibe notification. and if i have it on, it will always be on, even while on a call....
So I only need a solution to suppress it while on a call... tried some apps like kill the duck and it still didn't work....
Help!

Well, since that option didn't work, one solution is Tasker. It'll give you (among a sh*tload of other stuff) the ability to define a context, e.g. 'Call in progress' and then set 'Vibrate on Notify: Off' while that context is true.
It's got a GAZILLION more possibilities, and the learning curve may seem a bit steep. And it's a pay-app. But it's worth every last penny, if you ask me.
Check it out.

Apart from Tasker, is there anything else out there? 4.99$ for an app to simply disable the email vibrate notification on a call is not the ideal solution....

Well, there are other similar apps, like Locale or Settings Profile. Some of them have "Lite" or "Free" versions that may or may not work. All of them are general purpose context/setting apps, though. I don't know of any, except that Duck app you mentioned, which didn't work, that do just what you want. Sorry.
On a side note, Tasker has a 7-day trial version on their home page.

[Q] No Lockscreen Notifications in Lollipop?

OK, I see a few threads with similar questions (but no answers) on the boards of XDA, so going to ask this question.
My Xperia Z2 (BL locked, no root, running the stock Nordic Lollipop rom) doesn't show any notifications on the lock screen. My phone is PIN protected as that's a security requirement for my work Exchange e-mail account. But, even after removing my account (I thought some security setting was overriding the Android settings), I'm still not seeing any notifications on my lockscreen when I get an e-mail or text.
Is this just the way the ROM is? Or is there something wrong? I've gone through and double checked the notification settings after watching the Google help videos, but everything looks ok.
Thx,
Praz
UPDATE 4/7/15:
I just did a full reset and a fresh install of the U.S. 5.02 firmware. And from what I can tell, I'm still not getting lockscreen notifications on my Z2. I have my work e-mail on the phone; could it be that the corp security is disabling lockscreen notifications?
Anyone else having any issues w/ this?
I have just the same problem, have not been able to find any solution for this yet.
Someone else that have a solution?

Not sure - will mess w/ it some more later this week. Worst case, will do a reset to factory settings and see if the notifications show up. It's a little annoying right now to have neither status bar or the new style lockscreen notifications. But there aren't too many settings to screw it up, so I thought I'd check w/ you guys.

Lock Screen Notifications.

Hey all,
Has Hauwei fixed the way that their lock screen shows notification? Can you still only view new notifications on the lock screen? Does it still not play well with 3rd music app widgets?

I got mate 10 pro, dont have any problems with music apps, but notifications has a bug, which kills apps and notifications are delayed or not showed at all untill you unlock your phone..
Darn, that is super unfortunate. I think I may have to pick something else up. Ty for the feedback.
I'm also disappointed.. could stay with mate 9 pro, i see no difference, mate 9pro even felt smoother.
I had the same problems with the notifications with my Mate 10 pro but i just figured out why.
It can be weird and not user-friendly but if you don't choose Magazine Unlock from the LockScreen -> LockScreenStyle, you won't be able to have notifications (or only messages notifications). Check also the top right corner menu in the Notifications Management and set it to Always or Don't diplay notification content.
I hope this will help you.

How can a phone not notify you when it is locked ? seems like a pretty major flaw.

No problem with notifications too
But problem with expanding notifications in lockscreen with magazine locks.
My mate 10 don't show the message / wechat / whatsapp / email notification anymore when screen is locked. I remember it used to show, and I think I have accidentally changed something to disable this feature. I already went to Setting/ Apps & Notifications/ Notifications management/ and enable EVERYTHING.
In addition, at the upper right top corner I clicked the 3 dots, selected "Lock Screen Notifications" and choose "Display all notifications", still no hope.
Can anyone help me on this?
Thanks!!

Notification not going through on lock screen

Hi guys,
Not sure if this is another common bug, but it is getting a bit frustrating.
Whenever there are new messages coming through (say whatsapp, wechat, facebook messenger), there's no notification showing up under a lock screen.
I have already enabled ALL my apps for notification, even the right hand corner under notifications management -> Lock screen notifications -> display all notifications.
I have also tried to change a few themes already and it's still the same....
Is this a common bug for everyone? If not, is there any other ways i can fix this? Just scratching my head on this....
Thanks for the help!
Cheers!

If you mean the black AOD screen the answer is yes. Nothing shows up there expect the battery and music from the Huawei player.
If you mean the screen after that which allows you to use quick toggles the answer is no. That one works just fine.
My lock screen is set to magazine. Maybe that helps.

Huawei disabled that feature from the last couple of updates for all devices citing privacy issues.
Do you know if there is any way of getting around that, is there any third party software that could re-enable expanding notifications on the lock screen - it's one thing I really miss having just upgraded from a Nexus 5X!

Yea i have novalauncher but it doesn't affect lock screen. i think you need lockscreen launcher but I don't want to change. Huawei should give the option in lockscreen settings
If you have face unlock enabled, go to settings - security - face unlock and disable smart lock screen notifications
Honor\huawei has indeed screwed this up. faceunlock or pin or etc is not the problem.
The problem is at lock screen, you can see a notification for whatsapp
If it is just a single message, you're fine. You can read it.
But if it is multiple messages or multi line, you can't, as it only shows amount of messages notifications, and the FIRST line of the message.
You can't expand the notification to read the rest. You end up having to unlock and go into whatsapp to read it.
*Sometimes you just want to read the messages, without ending up showing yourself last online in WhatsApp........
Ifyou have enabled face unlock and swipe to get to the launcher you can press the power button, the phone will recognize your face and then you can pull down the notifications.
Same if you want to skip a song at spotify etc.

Can't. It doesn't work.
Steps.
1. Press power button or lift phone to start face unlock
2. U can see whatsapp notifications on the lock screen, but they are grouped up. Meaning, can't expand to see contents
3. Face unlock recognizes your face. You can now able to slide to unlock
4. Still, the notifications can't be accessed or expanded to read full content

Hello. Notifications currently aren't working with custom lockscreen themes. Devs from honor said it was for higher security. I hate to say that the only way to see notifications on lockscreen is to change lockscreen theme to default, just lockscreen is enough though, you can keep other things like icons etc in whatever theme you want. I personally hate the clock being at the bottom of screen but there is no other way for notifications to show up properly atm. I also tried custom lockscreen 'launchers' but they're bugged. Hope this helps.
Tested working on Huawei View10, You can enable full message content on lock screen by going to phone settings > security & Privacy > Face Unlock > and disable "smart lock screen notification". These seem to be a bad description on Huawei part because you would think this turns off notifications on lock screen but it only limits the content on lock screen for security purposes. The only time i need to expand my messages on lock screen is when phone is sitting on desk and i don't want to lift the phone to unlock it in order to read my notification. Lock screen notification can be set for apps separately. Hope this helps.
