Background apps unresponsive and youtube weird behaviour - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

I'm using Kenzo with Global 10.1 Kernel 3.10.84-perf-ga89deb5
Apps that are in the background often dont give any notification. LINE for example only shows notifications when I open the app manually.
Google Translate only shows its popup-translation whenever it wants and is completely random.
Youtube disconnects from my chromecast everytime i go to the homemenu and switch back to the app.
Same with other apps. I've tried adding them to the Autostart permission but that didnt change anything.
Power Saving is off.
Why is the energy saving so aggressive? Am I missing some option?

you should check a few things, first in the settings menu under battery you have you have smart background managment, make sure whatsapp is on the list thats allowed to run in background.
next go to app settings and look at the permissions whatsapp has, maybe notification permissions were blocked for some reason.
I also having a same issue. my XBS Helo seem cannot push notification for WhatsApp and Message. After few hour turn off the notification cannot popup the notification. it only pupup after a few minute I turn off. But once a few hour the problem come again. Please solve this issue XBS developer. is not just me but more members that using XBS having the same issue.
I'm using the china rom also included having that issues.
For messaging apps i setup the following and never had a problem:
- in Phone Manager -> permissions -> autostart check your app to let it start at boot
- in Phone Manager -> Battery -> Smart Background Management check your app to leave it running in background instead of killing it
- in recent apps drag down the app you want to lock it and never kill it
Doing these i never miss a notification from my apps.

You're not going to want it for the global rom, trust me. It's annoying and can stop 3rd party sms apps to stop working because it constantly posts an alert warning if you try to send a text in the background. If you have the global and are rooted, get app ops. It's pretty much the phone manager, available on the play store, and soooo much better than phone manager itself.

China ROM Notification issues

(new here and to OPPO)
Got the china ROM and I have quickly realized that notifications were locked up very tightly. Even after turning everything off/allowing notifications, notifications still don't work on lock screen.
I have:
Turned off Power Smart Saver
Custom Power Saving > Allow Background Running
Manage Notifications > Allow Notifications > Display on Lock screen
Battery > App quick freeze > Turn auto freeze off
Anyone have a solution or do I have to put up with the fact that the china rom is inferior
Which notification are you having issue with?
Did you disabled anything using adb?
I disabled com.coloros.athena
And im getting my Gmail and calendar notification somewhat reliable.

What does disabling com.coloros.athena do?
Edit:just found what Athena supposedly does, removing this fixed it for you?
Edit2:
Crowbar Asdfghjkl said:
According to running processes in the developer options, it looks like com.coloros.athena is responsible for killing background processes. I will have to look into this further tomorrow.
EDIT: I deleted com.coloros.athena together with com.coloros.safecenter and com.coloros.oppoguardelf. Looks like Tasker is running in the background now (though it is using a suspiciously small amount of ram compared with previous phones I have).

Using this I have got some more notifications to behave more normally, but things like SoundCloud player will sometimes decide not to show up, is there anything more I can do?

I actually had the same problem with my Oppo Find X. I use the Android Version 8.1.0 with the ColorOS Version V5.2.1.
Step 1: Go to Settings --> Battery --> Turn Off "Smart Power Saver" --> go to Custom Power Consumption Protection --> Select WhatsApp --> Tick "Allow Background Running"
Step 2: Go to Settings --> Battery --> Select "App quick freeze" --> disable WhatsApp
Step 3: On your Phone you have 3 Buttons, the one where you can go back, the other to get to Home Screen and the other one, where we can check our opened windows we use right now.
We need to open WhatsApp once, just to see it as an opened window, now use the third button i told you and use you finger to push the WhatsApp window DOWN. There you have the option to "Lock" the
App. That means, the App will be opened all the time without getting freezed and you can get messages. Remember to Manage the Notifications of WhatsApp in the Settings, like "Display on Lockscreen" and
"Display at the Top of the Screen"
I hope i was able to help you or other Persons. If you have questions, message me on: [email protected]

Help! Background services getting killed.

I have a problem where background services getting killed when recent are cleared.
Apps on question run at boot without visible windows eg. KinScreen, lux, fluid gesture
I have disable miui optimization in developer options, selected no restriction on battery saver and set apps to autostart.
problem still persist if recent are cleared all these services get killed.
Any way to prevent background services being killed??
I have root and open to suggestion but prefer to stay on miui.
i have same question,,
I have this issue too. What I did was lock my apps in recents. Not a clean way to do it, but it works.
NOTE: I posted this same issue in MIUI forums and seems that we're not alone and the issue is MIUI RAM management itself. I hope it gets fixed in future MIUI versions but for now the workaround I gave is our best shot. Hope this helps and enjoy your Poco, I know I am
First, in app info sections, you turn on autostart for each required app.
Secondly, in battery settings, give each required app >no restrictions policy.
Thirdly, lock them in recent menu.
Done.
You need to do these steps for apps such as alarm, email clients and the ones you mentioned. I had to do this with Google photos as well so that it could sync on its own.

yes ive done all this but the problem with this is
1. my recent mennu is filled with locked apps
2. some apps start as purely service no visible window
i have to launch it manually so the window appears in recents. eg lux and kinscreen.
any solution to make miui to treat apps and services like stock android. No other OS does this. This is ridiculous
I'm out of ideas now.
Check if disabling cleaning of cache memory in battery settings changes anything for you.
Same here. Tried this all, but apps still getting killed. I can't use my gear fit 2 pro app in background. Everytime I clear the recent menu gear got disconnected. Someone please help!
POCO F1 - No root - Locked bootloader - Fully stock
This is the most annoying thing about MIUI. I use Blokada and I need to keep it locked on recents which I hate the most. If I don't lock it and clear recets, Blokada gets killed and VPN gets turned OFF. Can't use live wallpaper for the same reason. On AOSP based ROMs, this problem doesn't exist. It smartly understands which apps need to run in the background and which apps can be killed. Hence, no need to keep an app on the recents. I don't understand what's the necessity of being so aggressive about RAM management when we have 6/8 GB of RAM. Due to this pathetic RAM management, I always see almost 3.9/4 GB free RAM out of 6 GB. And as we know, free RAM is wasted RAM.

Issue with Viber / Whatsapp notification when they are closed

Hello,
I have OPPO Find X Automobili Lamborghini Edition and i have the following problem:
When Viber / WhatsApp are open, even in background i'm getting all notifications.
But if I close the apps - no notification. So i must keep these apps always open and I think that this is not normal behavior.
I have allowed all notifications from App>App Info>Notifications, from the apps' settings and in App info> Power settings.
Any ideas what else to do?

U have to go to the app management in settings, and look for the ws app or other app, enter to power save and allow in the background.
then go to batery, also in settings, enter there look for the quick freeze option, enter there and turn off the quick freeze for the app.
And the last movement, go to recents look for the app u want to recieve notification and then lock it, pull down the window and u will see the options to lock it or unlock it.

Hello, thanks for the answer. I think I have tried all these steps but no succsess. Are you sure that this really helps?
you have to lock the app by swipe down in Taskfunktion (long swipe up in the middle), you have to do it after every restart of the phone, but it works by me

Question Easy High Performance Mode Toggle?

There doesn't seem to be a way to turn on high performance mode outside of navigating to battery in the settings and then advanced battery settings. Does anyone know of a way to add a notification switch or even a widget on the home screen to quickly turn it on and off?
Also I have tried my best to eliminate the OS's ability to kill apps running in the background. The one I have issues with the most is PokemonGo. I will switch from one app to another and when going back to PokemonGO it will have killed it and it restarts when going back to it. Loading like I just opened the app for the first time.
Things I have done so far. Disabled battery optimization for the app in the battery settings and turned on "Allow background activity" in the app settings under app management.
I have no task killers installed and the OS is basically stock after a factory reset.
I'm rooted and on DE2118_11_C.16
Have you tried locking the PokemonGo app to prevent it from being suspended?
Also you should check setting under developer mode in APPS section: Susspend execution for cached apps.
I would lower the background process limit from 5 to 3 due to the limited amount of ram on this device and lock any app you want to continue to run if it falls into 4th place.
Also, I would tur off RAM Boost as it does not improve app selection based on my use.
I have it locked yes, still gets closed in the background at random it seems.
RAM Boost was off as well.
The Suspend execution for cashed apps can you explain a bit on how this works? Do I have to cache the app or something in addition for it to work?
I keep the VPN Hotspot, AD Guard, and Pokemon GO locked.

This will "freeze" apps that are cached (past the open app limit) and they will not take any resources. This also will cause them to stop responding like your Pokemon app.
