i have Slim's latest on my I777. i am having constant shutdowns & SOD's, like every few minutes. the twist is that i have had the same release of Slim on the phone before, several times in fact, and i had the occasional SOD, but not constantly like now. i have installed Slim a number of times because i like to try new ROMs, and i keep coming back to Slim cus i like JB.
this must be diagnosed, because i believe now that something was messed up a bit along the way of flashing ROMs, mods, and kernels, but our awesome ROM supporters in their threads have their limits they have told me, and i should ask here since this is a general question about the phone & system. i am seeking help here relating to the rest of the phone and system that may become damaged somehow, and i want to clean up my system to end this problem. logcat & last_kmssg linked below.
to be clear: i am rooted correctly, am running the right software for the I777, always check my MD5's from the phone before flashing, clear my caches when needed, wipe dalvik before flashing kernels, etc etc.
interestingly, i fully wiped/factory reset, formatted system, dalvik, wiped batt stats, and fixed permissions, then reinstalled stock Slim last night because i thought maybe my settings were trouble, so i decided to run an out-of-the-box Slim, changing only the dpi and launcher. no change.
i've tried Siyah's latest after running Jkay's kernel cleaner as well. no change. something is making my phone shutdown/SOD constantly, and it may not be the ROM. others don't seem to be having this issue. i have little running on the phone. just accuweather, Date in Tray Pro, and Apex Pro. no overclocking/voltage changes... nothing fancy at all. so i'm just perplexed.

Nothing jumps out at me but you need to backup your data and SDCARD to a PC, flash back to stock..... when stock boots up perform a factory reset and test with the stock firmware... if it work fine.... root and install the ROM fresh and clean and test without installing anything else. If it again is fine then install every app from the Market. if you want to restore your recent data afterwards that is up to you but There are so many variables that could be causing your issue and you need to step back and try to find the cause one step at a time.

thanks shoman. much appreciated for the tips.
You wouldn't happen to be using an aftermarket phone charger would you? I was working on a phone behaving like that and it was the charger. If you lifted up on the plug a little while plugged in, it would wake the phone from sleep and constantly restart it. It also did something to the ROM or possibly the Kernel cause it started restarting while not plugged in and the power button quit working. I used a known good Samsung charger and installed AOKP JB with the kernel that came with and it fixed everything. I replicated this problem with two different chargers. It is possible that the USB port on the phone was worn. However, no matter how I moved the cable with a Samsung charger, nothing bad would happen.

no I've never used one.
but it appears this was all caused by the app Screen Off And Lock by Katecca. I had the donate version. its always worked for me on every ROM up through ICS, but it seems to wonk out JB. I changed to Lock Screen App by Kenneth Cheng and have had zero problems in days now, which is a first.

I have a Motorola Atrix on Bell (Canada), and for the past few months it's been running perfectly on a ICS version of Paranoid Android with no issues. I recieved a 32gb SD card for xmas, and I was reinstalling the ROM to move it to internal storage so that I can use my SD Card for music. I decided that since I was reinstalling the ROM I may as well get a new one, so I got the Paranoid Android JB ROM. I installed it to internal storage, with the tweaked body option, and it worked fine. Then I used the option chooser and installed some gapps like the play store, maps, youtube, as well as nova launcher and adobe flash, then rebooted. I first noticed that the wi-fi isn't working. It gets stuck at 'turning on wifi'. Also, none of the gapps were installed, just the launcher. The main issue, is that every couple minutes the phone will shut off. It also takes much longer than usual at the M screen (30-60 sec). It seems to turn off whenever I press the power button to wake it, whenever I plug in or unplug the device, and occasionally just randomly when the device is in use.
The phone is semi-operational right now besides having no Play store and the very frequent shut offs. Any help would be appreciated. I've tried a few different JB ROMs and they all have the shutting off issue, but Paranoid Android seems to be the only one with the Options chooser not working correctly.
Flashed back to the CM7 ROM Neutrino 2.9 . Works perfectly. Still though, is there any reason the JB Roms won't work for me? I know I've tried one in the past and it worked fine, but didn't want to keep is since is was still in Alpha at the time.

All ICS/JB ROMs are in early beta still. They're stable, just lacking hardware acceleration.
Did you do proper wipes and format /system partition before installing? Did you re-downloading the ROM and installing again? Did you try CM10 build from EPinter's? Sounds like your using Aroma installer, try flashing normal zip files for gapps, never had issues.
A lot of people are running CM10 as daily without issues, so retrace your steps to see if you overlooked anything.

Hi all,
Lately my tab is freezing at random moments. When opening gmail, youtube, browsing, settings, .. I can't use it longer than 5min or it will crash.
I'm running CM 10.1 nightly 20130118, Kernel 3.1.10-cyanogenmod (never upgraded this).
I have also tried older CM versions (CM 10, older CM10.1's, CM9) and AOKP -> same problem.
When I install a new rom I always wipe cache partition, wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik cache first.
I'm running CMW Recovery v6.0.2.7. Today I also installed a new bootloader (US_LPL_4.0.4_bootloader) but still the same issue.
Any ideas? Is it possible to do a harder reset than I already do? Should I maybe install a kernel update?
Thanks!
either you are overclocking and not stable, keep installing back the same bad app which is wreaking havoc, restoring from an old TB backup which is not playing nice on current stuff, installing some hack/mod which is wreaking havoc, or you have a hardware issue.
odin back to stock ics (this will completly wipe the whole tab out) and observe for a few days.

Never overclocked so I'm afraid it's a HW issue.
Just installed stock ics and it still freezes after a few minutes (without installing any apps).
Guess I'm gonna try to put everything default again (I still have those 0/0/0 folders from JB) and return it to the shop..

Jeps... Sounds like a hw issue if it is still causing the crashes on stock, how long do you use your tab now? maybe it has nothing to do with time, but just want to know..

I have it for about 9 months now but never really used it alot. I think in total maybe 40-50hours (watching movies on holidays etc).
I did leave it on the table once while the sun was shining through the window so that might have overheated the tab a bit.. Not sure if the issues started right after that. I could still watch a movie on it etc, now it crashes after 5min max.

I have the same setup as you and my tablet starts to crash this week. Gmail won't stay for 2 mins
Try this!
You need to wipe it clean and make sure your 16G is not getting full. You can use any file manager ap to start your clean up, which is all you need if the hardware is not damaged. Ok, so go to root and remove any excess file you might have, this will eliminate memory issues. Next, reboot into recovery, hope you are rooted, then wipe everything including delvic. Install your ROM [INFAMOUS_2.2], the best I have tested, and reboot your system. If you can't do this you need to reinstall CWM, I use 5.5.1.7, and then reflash your rom. If this doesn't get you back in the clouds contact me.
So, I install lineage os every one's and a while to test it and see if it is ok for me, I always revert to stock but that's not the point, one problem that I have is that the phone gets VERY HOT. One day I installed lineage and when I finished the setup process, the phone was so hot I couldn't hold it comfortably, while when I finish the setup on the stock rom the phone is just warm. Is there any way to make the phone run cooler? Is the phone getting hot because the software is too much for the processor? . I haven't installed lineage os for about two months now so I may try it again at some point. Is anyone else having the same problem?
No that's not normal, it's not supposed to heat up much.
Maybe you you didnt flash it properly, it's recommended to install it like this.
forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/development/rom-unofficial-lineageos-17-1-g5-t4039807/post81972297#post81972297
Also check before flashing if your camera works on the stock lg rom,
If it doesnt you have to downgrade to stock marshmellow, and then upgrade back to oreo to fix it.

Thanks for answering,
This is how I install it. The camera on stock oreo is working normally so I don't need to install stock Marshmallow. So, I firstly unlock the bootloader and then install lineage os 15.1 with no gapps. After that I upgrade to lineage os 16.1 again with no gapps. Now I uninstall lineage 16.1 and I am doing a clean install of official lineage os 17.1 WITH gapps. The reason I do this is because if I install lineage 17.1 instantly the cameras and sensors don't work. Unfortunately I don't remember the temperatures that I got but I remember that one day I woke up with 20 C and after 15 minutes of some web browsing and social media it went up to 40 C (there's a slight chance that I'm wrong since I don't remember the exact temperatures as I said)
Strange i didn't have those problems when flashing properly,
Do you also use nano/pico opengapps?
You could also give crDroid Android 5.12, a try maybe that will work well, but it's android 9 instead of 10.
I think you need to flash it in the same way as lineage.

I originally used nano opengapps but I started using stock because I use most of the gapps anyway but I will try crdroid 5.12 at some point to see what happens.
I don't know what's wrong with this phone, but once it's rooted it will eventually enter a boot loop after some restarts or power on/off cycles. You can boot to recovery or fastboot, but no matter what you do there, the only way to fix the bootloop is flashing the stock boot and recovery partitions and formating data from there. The phone will reset to factory and boot up normally, but you will loose all your config, apps, etc. It's a pain in the a** to setup everything all over again every few days. Every time you have to restart your phone is like playing russian roulette, you never know when the boot loop will happen, but it will come up sooner or later no matter what you do. I have performed a lot of tests just rooting and without touching a single thing in config or apps, after some restart cycles it boot loops.
I'm fed up with it because it's so unreliable, it may work fine if you use it stock but I personally need root. I have ended up being so afraid of restarts that I have not powered it off or restarted since a month.
By the way this is my first One Plus and I don't know if this issue happens with other models from the brand.
This is just my experience and my advise.

Indeed that's what I tried first because I usually solved boot loops with that method in other phones in the past. But with this one that trick does not work, I tried with several magisk versions before trying other things that didn't work either such as restoring a nandroid backup with TWRP or wiping everything and formatting data on TWRP. The only thing that worked was the method I described in OP, which I found in other thread in this forum. I have read reports about other people suffering the same problems, so I know I'm not alone.
By the way it seems to happen only with stock ROM. Which custom ROM are you using?

Hi,
I can confirm that I had the same problem as you to root 3 One Plus Nord 2 (DN2103) from different friends wishing to stay on OxygenOS.
The root works fine and then totally randomly the OnePlus animation keeps looping after a reboot.
By doing a "fastboot -w" it starts again correctly but obviously with a loss of data.
Recently I got a Nord 2 from a friend for testing and it turns out that using the latest version of Magisk Canary, the root seems to remain after several reboots but to be tested over several months.
I've also seen here owners of European Nord 2 who confirm that root works well with Magisk Canary.
Edit : After about 10 reboots, the phone went back to bootloop.
Yes it's really exhausting root this phone. I tried custom roms without any problems with Magisk but stock is broken somehow. I need to use stock because of video recording quality. I have now Magisk 24.3 but didn't really restart it yet because of this. You shoud backup all data before restart . You can use data format in twrp, that works too.

Thank you very much. Next time I will try switching to magisk canary channel. I'm on stable and sticking to 24.1 because the last time I updated from that version to 24.3 I got into a boot loop.

Thanks for your answer. In my case the first thing I tried was flashing magisk again, then restoring a full nandroid backup with twrp, and then formatting data in twrp, but none of these steps worked.
I also heard about this problem being solved in custom ROMs but I haven't found any that fit my needs or any that has everything working, so I prefer to keep on rooted stock.
#metoo . We need devs to look into this problem. Been using rooted Android phone for years but now it s***s without root on Nord 2.
As long as you use an untouched stock rom (or after modding re-flashed by OnePlus servicepoint, rebooted into stock recovery, wipe all and re-flash stock, in a OnePlus store), root works fine on stock rom. Every attempt different than above will fail one day or another. I decided not to take OTAs because too many things can go wrong / turn unstable.
The phone is my daily driver, also for work. But I am rooted with Magism 24.3 (stable) and have various modules running including LSPosed, Shamiko, USNF, and in LSPosed GravityBox, XprivacyLua pro and a few more.
Works awesomely. Just don't touch things afterwords. In that case, yes, the phone sucks. Big time.

TWRP and custom roms works without issue. Even root is working with custom.
NANDroid does NOT work on stock rom! TWRP does, but no NANDroids possible.
Unfortunately I agree...
I spent so much time because of manipulations that I am used to doing, and which leads to a boot loop and a brick of the phone immediately afterwards.
The only solution I had was to flash the rom, which of course leads to a total reset each time and a considerable waste of time.
This is my 3rd and last OnePlus phone that I buy, I'm sick of all my lost data and hours spent just getting it started.
Oh my oneplus nord 2 is now in final bootloop. Cant make anything work, just keeps rebooting when plugging in power so $350 down the drain. Would not recommend..
Why down the drain? It's not 1 year old, so Oneplus will renew firmware under warrantee.

U r wrong
I'm not sure if it's just a coincidence, but for me, it always happens after about a week or two of ignoreing "you have an update available" popup. I thought maybe it modified the boot image, like magisk, to run at the next startup.
I agree that this is very annoying. If I didn't need Google Pay, I'd just install another rom.
Like said. Have your device Factory-flashed by OnePlus, REBOOT to stock recovery, do a FULL WIPE and FACTORY FLASH stock AGAIN! Only with the official OnePlus tool and software.
Only this way all your old fiddling around is erased. If you ROOT then, all will be fine. Of course, neglect further updates, but the device will work fine. Mine is in this state, heavily tweaked (Magisk, Zygisk, USNF, GravityBox, etc. etc. and it runs stable for over 10 weeks without any hickup.
