best rom would be stock one but u can go for pe or lineage with franco.....
Stock as it performs almost 30 percent higher than custom
For kernels sphinx and Franco are the most stable
Extreme kernel crashes way too much

So you say Stock + extreme would be the best ? Or if not, Franco ?
I bought the phone, still not here, and I want the best gaming experience possible

Extreme kernel has a history of crashing during benchmarks not just a small amount like 50 percent of the time it is unstable. I did benchmarks on it the scores are exactly the same as stock kernel and sphinx and Franco same exact scores all.
Some people on the forums are cheaters on benchmarks and will disable zram and fsync to reach 300000. It will mess up your internal storage longterm don't recommend it.
Use Franco or Sphinx kernel and use official MIUI because the performance is weaker on custom roms.
210000 - 230000 lineage
260000 - 280000 miui
For games use the chrysalis thermal module to disable thermal throttling, the throttling is pretty aggressive for the pocophone. There seems to be no problem when charging and normal stuff. Some people in the forums just delete the thermal files from the vendor folder.
You can set everything HDR and extreme 60 fps in pubg but just make sure the game is rendered in 720p giving about 46*c or else there will be overheating in 1080p gaming or 1440p.

I was looking for chrysalis thermal module, thanks.I guess i'll try the xtreme, and disable zram and fsync too(always did that). If crashing, then franco (never used his kernel, seems only hyped tbh but idk)
I use Xiaomi EU 8.12.27 + franco kernel, and set the maximum freq of GPU on 596 Mhz or 520Mhz, big clusters of CPU in 2.1 Ghz like maximum with the tool Pub Gfx paid version i set Zero Lag Mode ON, Graphics profile in HDR with Max FPS(60fps) + potato graphics, Render OpenGL 3.1, optimization GPU all, memory boost, safe mode and "save the configuration" experimental option enables. With all this settings i got on 25 min of gameplay 62°C of CPU and 44°C of battery.
i just noticed that the GPU works on pubg max settings on the lowest freqs usually, sometime it's on 414 or 520 Mhz but the major of the time is in the lower freq, the cpu its almost the same of the little clusters but for big cluster they are in 1.5/1.8 Ghz and the game run very smoothly, for me without fps drops and nothing.

MIUI has a custom thermal protection for some games like pubg and benchmarks like antutu, so if you consider this, miui is a good option for games than custom rom, if you install any module to disable the thermal protection on any custom rom it be the same than miui, but the problem is if you disable the thermal engine how you can control the temps of battery. In my opinion the best way for this is with a script that disable the thermal engine when you will be playing some games, and when you finished the game, run another script that enable the thermal protection, like this mod (click me c: )

Stock MIUI stable 10.3.5 with Shadow kernel and smartpack kernel manager. Use gaming mode in the manager when gaming. I play PUBG in HDR extreme fps with all settings maxed out using GFX tools. There is no dropped frame even at 1%. It's smooth until it dies. The battery drains like hell though. About 1% per minute. No use plugging and playing. The device gets warm and it will discharge even though it's charging. I guess thermal limitation prevents fast charging then. Well, saw this thread now only so.. very late reply.
the rom have bug well you will hardly notice if does then they're insignificant one . well try RELOADED CAF dnt know about kernels am still confused about them . but this rom in itself so smooth and the thermals are so well maintained . i have been a fan of it .

Hello folks!
This thread is intended for sharing, please be kind. Any suggestions would be appreciated
A few days ago I was tired of having my Mi3 running on stock global dev MIUI 8, it was inefficient system with really bad memory management. On my experience, the MIUI tend to run out of memory. In some case, after a few hours of usage the system cannot reclaim the occupied RAM, thus making the system lags a lot and generate excessive heat!
Yes, MIUI is a feature-rich ROM, and the Mi ecosystem is a pretty mature ecosystem. However, those all greatness needs a lot of power to run on our 3 year old device. After a few research I decided to switch to CM13 ROM.
With efficiency in mind, I do my research and tinkering with my device to get the best setup possible without losing performance. The results are AMAZING! I can use my phone for a whole day without recharge in the mid day. All of this with huge improvement on performance, Real Racing 3 highest graphic setting without any noticeable lag! CPU and battery temperature are now significantly lower (43-47C idle / light tasks, 55-57C heavy gaming). Now that I've found the best setup, I want to share it with you folks! Here we go:
Mi3W 64GB
CM13 ROM snapshot build
CM kernel (automatically flashed while flashing CM13 zip through TWRP)
Screen resolution changed to 720x1280 use this guide
Modded interactive CPU governor (see screenshot below)
Undervolt (see screenshot below, this one really helps reduce CPU working temperature)
Noop I/O scheduler
Reduce aggresiveness of LMK (see screenshot below)
Thats all folks, hope this guide will get our Mi3 having another year of flagship-grade experience! Cheers! :highfive:

It depends on the kernel used. Cm kernel that he used supports undervolt. Careful when undervolting though as too much of it can cause cpu instability and reboots.

Yes, it depends on the kernel used. Some kernel support undervolting while others don't. You need to flash kernel that support undervolt.

While testing CPU voltage value, don't tick "apply on boot" option until you find the most stable voltage without causing system reboot or crashes. Every CPU has different limit on how far you can undervolt, but you can use the values on my screenshot as guidance (Snapdragon 801 / MSM8974-AB only)
Wow!! Thanks a lot bro. I'll fiddle now with my phone.

Undervolting (and clock adjustment, in general) pretty much is a case-per-case basis, so different handsets (even if it's the same type of device) may have different setup. Try lowering it first incrementally and test it, until you have it stable enough.

Inside MIUI there's a hidden performance mode, you can enable with root, but it scales the cpu high and drains much battery.
so I figured that replacing the Thermalconf8996-high.conf to Thermalconf8996.conf makes the phone get a better performance while scaling only when necessary(it allow heating 5ºC more)
Q&A
It is safe?
Yes it is safe, I didnt modified the file, its a profile of the thermalconf for high performance mode, xiaomi wrote that file so it will not make your phone overheat.
It allows heating the cpu and battery to 42ºC maximium instead of the standard 37ºC(37ºC Thermalconf 130K antutu, 42ºC Thermalconf 150k antutu).
Basically it allows the gpu to work more, thats why it get 150k antutu(See pic below in attachments) it reduces alot the lag by reducing the throttling so you can play ultra 30fps shadow legends...
Tutorial:
Download the file in attachments, use root explorer app and navigate to system/vendor/etc and replace your thermalconf8990
Tested only in MIUI 10 OREO Weekly for Xiaomi EU

yeah but the way that performance mode handle the clock is not nice... they don't lower the cpu clock, they just put a thermal limit, thats insane..

I followed this guide on miui.eu 10 stable rom and it worked great and Antutu v8 score was 209032, then I flashed miui.eu 11 stable rom and followed this guide again, but this time it doesn't behave like it used to on miui 10.
With high thermal profile, Antutu v8 score is 166244 and with normal thermal profile Antutu v8 score is 160259, any idea why ?
Antutu v8 score :
- miui.eu 10 HIGH thermal profile : 209032 (CPU 69516, GPU 84709, MEM 29908 UX 24899)
- miui.eu 11 HIGH thermal profile : 166244 (CPU 58874, GPU 54096, MEM 32791, UX 20483)
- miui.eu 11 NORMAL thermal profile : 160259 (CPU 63254, GPU 40233, MEM 30304, UX 26468)
Why does every kermal I flash slow the CPU down I've tried at least six with miui and linegae all of them do the same thing. The geekbench scores are rediculous on all of them. I'd their anyway to set them to maximum clock speeds on the GPU and CPU. I don't care about battery draining etc.
I've also tried kermal auditor and fk manager both dot he same thing slower clock speeds.
Hm... I guess its because most users wanted a stable usage.. optimal performance, with a bit more longer usage..
And according to sir Francisco Franco.. with his franco kernel.. he explained that underclocking to some specific points.. doesnt affect performance.. only the app starting.. he mentioned apps dont really need to run at max speed..
Anyways.. if you want more power.
Try using MALAKAS KERNEL, INSTALL all of the tweaks mentioned together, in his post..
Or download EXTREME KERNEL..
BUT I GUESS.. MALAKAS KERNEL WILL suite you..
It even got me a wooping above 300k in antutu.. on par with my kirin 980 mate 20 x..??
And dont forget to install
Unthermal, lkt and force gpu render magisk modules.. and build prop VULKAN tweaks .. all present in MALAKAS KERNEL THREAD

That Antutu Score actually bothers me. I just installed a custom pixel rom. When I tried going for Antutu score like 2 days ago, it was at 334,485 (CPU 98.2K, GPU 138.5K, MEM 54K, UX 43.6K). Does it mean my rig is being 'overclocked'? Or rooting the device means tampering with the score result?
No gravity kernal overclocks 3.03ghz cpu
Recently found out that the prime core shuts off or throttles heavily at >~43C which often led to stutters & lags in heavy games like PUBG.
So was trying to search a solution for this problem & think may have got it finally!
1) On any custom kernel for MiUI go to your preferred kernel tuner app which has the options to change thermal profiles. I prefer Franco Kernel Manager.
2) Out of the 12 or 13 available profiles first select "PUBG"
3) Then again open the menu and select "Not Set"
*often the profile is not getting automatically set by the OS during gaming*
Here's a screenshot of 3DMark Api Overhead benchmark, note the drastic increase in the Opengl score.
Similar findings in all other benchmarks!
EDIT: It's more applicable in the situations when chip temperature is 38C+ and even a 5-10 min of moderate to heavy load makes it throttle or even shut down cores via Xiaomi's thermal policies.
So profiles like Dynamic/Not Set/PUBG help increase the threshold and allow high sustained performance for a long time..
Help even more in conjunction with the Game Turbo app as in my benchmarks like CPU throttling test it gives a better result with it on than off..
IMO more important than just high scores, this allows for less throttling & jank = sustained performance = unlocking the true performance of the SD855 just like in the OP7t.
Do try this if you've experience lags & throttling too & post your results!
Tbh I think it must be something else that is affecting your score. I just did the test 2 times and i get
OpenGL: 175 850
Vulkan: 571 914
but when I check at the bottom the CPU Clock and Temperature, I see that my CPU never went above 30C.

What you're saying - not getting above 30C is not the same as not being throttled in fact that's the point I'm making. The default profile is quite conservative & doesn't let the cpu run at its max potential. Thermal throttling does not necessarily have to happen at like 50C+.... but can be whatever the minimum threshold set in the default profile. So I've noticed that at 34-35C too the Prime Core will downclock from 2.8Ghz to 2.6Ghz & later on to 2.0Ghz/1.6Ghz & then just shut off at ~40-43C.
My scores are higher thus indicating more performance because of the cpu being allowed to run to it's original potential without the usual aggressive throttling.
You're getting 150k+ = throttled scores., I'm getting 350-400k+ because of using a different thermal profile... which again is just one of the many other inbuilt ones supplied by Xiaomi themselves.
So getting superb performance + Temps remain like 53C in games on the cpu, but the phone itself feels just mildly warm like usual.

These scores are off the charts!
When I was on immensity could get only 445k-454k in Antutu & apioverhead (Opengl=250k, vulkan 500k) , 3dmark=5900
Btw You said 35C but the temps in 3DMark are showing even more low for you in ~23C something...and in the antutu graph too it starts from 29C ..so was it a typo, the 35C?
This is amazing dude!
& No, not on custom but I'm on MiUI 11.0.3IN version.
Overall I believe that due to the low temps in your case the cpu isn't throttled at all & able to sustain max speeds for a very long time.. A very temperature sensitive chip, low threshold levels set by Xiaomi

Hmm I think it might be due to the fact that I underclocked the CPU to a maximum of 2.2ghz maybe. And no, 35 degrees Celsius is my environment temperature, not the phone chipset or battery's temperature haha. I only ran those test once and uploaded the result, who knows if I might be able to get higher scores?
Actually if you looked around, someone posted a snapshot of 510k on Antutu before. I recalled it's in the Quad kernel telegram group.

I'll try it today.
But guessing that it'll be more or less the same as there's no CPU OC possible on the 855 atm & geekbench usually doesn't throttle in the first run enough to make this tweak help it any more.
It's more applicable in the situations when chip temperature is 38C+ and even a 5-10 min of moderate to heavy load makes it throttle or even shut down cores via Xiaomi's thermal policies.

alucard hotplug
What's fixed compared to the original kernel?
none, if you don't need the features here just use the original kernel which is better.
Which build should I use?
General build if you don't play heavy games. Likely more stable.
Gaming build if you play heavy games. Likely less stable. Based on gamma but still uses LOS 17.1 sources.
Gaming-OC build if you play heavy games and have good thermals. Likely less stable. 2.34ghz big, 1.88ghz little, 710mhz gpu. Note that default voltages might be too high, use Gaming build first, take notes of the voltages, flash Gaming-OC then fix it up when some frequencies are too high.
Is it plug and play?
Certain new features will be disabled by default.
Pre-configured settings on the new features are not optimized, you should configure it yourself.
You can use smartpack to change adrenoboost, undervolt/overvolt, etc.
If you are throttled by thermal-engine, you will likely to never reach the OC cpu frequencies.
IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING, DO NOT TOUCH ESPECIALLY ANYTHING RELATED TO VOLTAGES.

I flashed general build and what I have noticed.
Battery life improved.
Games runs smooth.
Phone runs cooler now.
Overall very stable kernel.
Ir blaster is not working kindly fix it in another build.
Thanks for your great work. ?
Is it possible to add ttl support in the next build?
So happy to see someone still willing to spend time developer kernel for v20, so I just want to see if it's possible
No general build
Hello.. Thanks for the work you are doing. But i can't find general build. Thanks

I believe its in the beta 1 folder
Does PD charging work?
I was tried on h990ds I run antutu benchmark and I get score just 94.860
How it can be?

What are your thermals like? If ur cpu is getting too hot, it`ll lower it`s clockspeed

cpu thermal is throttling, i will try run antutu 5 times with 1,5 Ghz Cpu Speed and 5 time with 2,1 Ghz CPU Speed

I'd recomend removing the crap thermal pad and replacing it with thermal paste like arctic mx-4. I did it and my thermals are very good, the cpu barely goes over 55 degrees celsius under heavy load. Before the mod i was hitting 70-80 degrees

My device using LOS 17 and this kernel always loch CPU clockspeed @ 1,19 Ghz and it can't be modified
I don't know, this bug from kernel or the ROM??
could be battery
here's few things you can try :
using the thermal engine I put on the drive link.
This can be dangerous since it is tuned for my phone or you can use gamma's thermal engine flashable.
Disable BCL, this is dangeorus and may shorten your battery lifespan. ONLY USE THIS FOR TESTING.
Code:
echo -n disable > /sys/class/power_supply/bcl/device/mode
if BCL fixed it then you need a new battery and be sure to restart so bcl enables again.

So the battery cause the clock speed lock at 1,19 Ghz??
This is a nice update to Gamma, but unfortunately anything beyond the camera-fixed-but-otherwise Gamma kernel in the `MAGISK-TWEAKS` directory doesn't have a functioning IR sensor - even in the supposed 'General' build. If this project is still in development, would it be possible to add the feature back in? It's a lot to ask for, but for those who use a V20 as a secondary device specifically for some of these (now) niche hardware features, it's almost the final decision between using this kernel, or not.
...I'd say 'other kernels' but, there really isn't anything else for new AOSP-based ROMs beyond, uh, Gamma.
What is the difference in between this kernel and last gamma kernel 20.0? Thanks
