Disable Android/data folder being created/used on sd card - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have inserted SD card to my Samsung Note 4 (rooted, 6.0.1) and noticed that it instantly created folders for apps "Android/data/...app..." .
I want to save only media files on SD card such as photos/videos/music, that's it. I have plenty of space for cache files on internal storage.
Is it possible to disable apps creating these "Android/data/...app..." cache files on SD card?
My device is rooted if that helps.

[Q] Internal SD & External SD Problem

Good day guys and hope you can help me with this. Im running Miui 2.1.6 with Siyah kernel 3.3.1, my problem is my internal sd and external sd cards being swapped or thats how the system views it. whenever i try to move apps from phone to sd card whether via app manager or apps 2 sd it moves my apps to my external sd card which is annoying. im only using my external sd card for media and not for my apps. after moving those apps it creates a .android_secure folder on my external sd with .asec files on it. im assuming that this is a problem with how the phone identifies my internal & external sd cards, i tried removing my external sd card and again tried to move apps to sd card and it says it doesnt have enough space which is crazy because my sd card has 6GB free space on it.

[Q] [GT-I9300] Can't install on SD card?

I just got this device. I can only move apps to SD card but what about those with huge data files? I tried putting data in SD card but it again redownloads files on phone storage? I am not rooted currently and I don't find any settings regarding installation storage settings.

Are external SD cards mostly unusable with Android 5.0.2?

Device: Moto E 2015
Android: 5.0.2
Coming from android 4.0 I could manage files on my external SD card using Windows Explorer, AirDroid, or any 3rd party file manager.
Now that I'm using 5.0.2 I cannot manage files on the external SD card using any of those methods. The SD card has over 14 gigs free. The card is formatted and works as Google pushed over my photos and music from the internal SD card fine.
Another problem is I can't move any apps to the SD card. With android 4.0 I could push an app like iBird Pro to the external SD card. Now when I try to push that app to the external SD card it claims there is not enough space. Android storage shows there is over 14 gb free and iBird Pro is under 1 gb.
It would appear that 5.0.2 is a total wreck when trying to make use of the external sd card. *sigh* I hear rumors that M may fix this... if the Moto E 2015 happens to get that update.
You can transfer media to your SD, transfer some apps to SD (if they allow it) But SD write permissions have been a PIA since 4.4.X, so hopefully M does sort it all out.
Sent from my XT1095
So basically useless right now. I manage my own media content in a structure I like. Sad. Hopefully M will fix this mess.
Still trying to write to the external sd card. Latest developments.
Moto E 2015
Android 5.0.2
Windows 8.1
Trying to transfer files or create folders on the external SD card in my Moto E 2nd Gen. causes the following error:
"The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected."
What I can do:
Delete folders
Read
Copy from sd card to Windows
What throws the error:
Creating a folder
Copying files to the sd card
On the device itself I cannot get any file manager to write to the external sd card. Apps that try to setup write permissions to the sd card fail. Android itself was able to move photos and music to the sd card when I inserted it into the phone. If I try to move any app to the SD card it says there is not enough space. It has 14gb free.
I finally tried using another computer. The other system is Windows 7 and I was able to created folders and copy files to the external sd card in the phone.
Back to my main system (Windows 8.1) I used USBDeview and cleared ALL usb drivers. Reconnected keyboard and mouse. Then plugged in the phone... same behavior. I have also tried installing Motorola's driver suite and have the same result. I have tried various USB ports on my motherboard both USB 2 and 3.
I'm at loss of what to try next, besides a blunt object to both devices repeatedly.
And I may have just fixed the problem of moving apps to the external SD card.
I erased the card while it was still in the phone. I did this the first time I put it in. I choose NOT to have Android copy over music and photos. Now I can move apps over to the SD card.
However, when trying to create a folder on the SD card from Windows Explorer it just hangs: SD card (Not Responding). It does show "New Folder" after terminating file explorer and looking at the SD card again. And now.... I can rename the folder, create folders, and copy files to the SD card... wtf.
Perhaps the SD card is bad, it is incredibility inconsistent.

I have a 2nd Gen Moto G with Android 5.0.2 and I'm trying to move apps to the SD card as well. I'm a bit confused as to what steps you followed. Are you saying that BECAUSE you erased the SD card and chose not to have Android copy music and photos that you can now move apps to the card? Or are you saying that since reversing your decision and allowing Android to copy over music and photos (and possibly reformatting your erased card?) that you can now move apps to the card? And can you transfer any apps or only certain apps? Are you doing this on your phone or on your computer?
I can transfer certain apps to my SD card on the phone. And using the computer and Windows Explorer I can create a new folder on the SD card. I'm just not sure what steps to take next to transfer the apps to the card, or what impact there might be on data or functionality.

Need a help of real Android system professional with the SD card connection

Hello everyone,
I am looking for the help of real expert on Android. I have an old phone Galaxy S II (I9100) and I said to myself that I will use it as an MP3 player, radio, handheld camera, in short, such a home device. I made a hard reset, installed CyanogenMod, that I updated, installed the necessary applications and because the phone has storage for applications only 2GB many I moved to internal storage for data that is marked as an SD card (in the storage manager) and it has 16 GB For MP3 I bought 64 gigabytes Samsung SD card. And then there was my problem. When I slid the SD card and run the system, it didn't see the application transferred to the internal data storage. The problem I think is that the system has changed the path of the internal data storage and the actual SD card. So it doesn't seek for apps in the internal data storage, but in the blank SD card. Is there any way to replace or modify the path to both memories so that the system will be looking for applications where before, ie only the internal data storage and not on an external SD card? Than I will be able to change SD card any time and it will not affect installed apps moved into internal storage for data. I have installed CM 12 with a root. All three storages can system see. Thank you very much.

Change SD card from Internal to Portable

For some time i have used an SD card on my P9000 as Internal storage.
The advantage of this should be the possibility to install apps on the SD card.
It has been a source of issues though:
*malfunction of apps,
*apps disappearing after restart of P9000,
just to name some.
Moving the apps to the internal memory seems to fix these issues.
So, i have decided to format the SD card as portable storage.
This can be done by Settings, Storage & USB, SD card, vertical ellipsis ⋮ menu (top-right)
Before formatting, I want to move all data from the SD card.
After moving apps, photos & other media there is still 3.73 GB used on the SD card.
What is the 3.73 GB on an empty SD card?
How about transferring data from internal to sd card on Elephone P7000?
