Yes it sucks, but looking at LG's previous flagships, I'm not even surprised, and I did not have high expectations. Nevertheless I'm almost certain that we'll get pie somewhere in 2019. I bought my g6 because it was cheap, had a high quality build and a stellar camera. However, I do miss stock android on my nexus 5x, and if we won't get any news about pie until Q3, then I'll probably root my phone and install a custom rom.

i dont know what phone you came from before your G6 but saying G6 have "stellar camera", men, you are so wrong. i can say thats my old V10 have better camera quality in photo and video than my G6 from far far away, G6 have a better screen with HDR and thats what mask the quality of the photos...and they are OK, not stellar.
Video from G6 its the worst i ever see in a high end phone, ridiculous over sharpened imagedestroy all the quality on videos...its a gorgerous device but in cameras my V10 do better for sure.
Now, talking about Pie, we will get it, maybe mid-July or after July until December this year yeah, cause G7, V30, V40 are first to this update roadmap by device age thats make sense...but yes we gonna get it, sooner or later...
hope to see some UI/UX changes like volume slider on the side instead of top and so little changes like that will bring to this device another life.

I came from the nexus 5x, and I have not tried the camera om the LG V10, but it's hard for me to belive, that it's better than that of the g6. After I started using gcam, the photos began to look great. Although I do agree that the video sucks on the g6, however I don't use my phone to record videos. The only real complaints I have with the g6 are the slow updates and the terrible battery life.
Anyways back to the topic, I do agree with you, and I hope we'll see LG make some UI changes, because I'm quite frankly tired of how the UI looks. But knowing LG, they'll probably do a security patch, make the navbar icons more rounded and call it a day.

Seriously there would be good custom rom, and many here have stopped developing for the G6 custom roms
I concur the camera sucks unless you are outdoors.
My camera works fine indoors and I almost never use the flash. Having said that, I don't think we are getting Pie and I frankly don't care. The phone works fine as is and there is nothing in Pie that I really need. Updating just introduces other problems.

If the g6 gets android pie they'll update the UI to the lg g7 UI cause for lg every 2nd major update they update the UI to the latest. Like the g3 when it got android 6.0 the UI got updated to UX 4.0 (lg g4 UI) or the lg g5 getting updated to android 8.0 it got UX 6.0 (lg g6 Oreo UI)

Hello guys! I was thinking on buying a new device. Currently I have Galaxy S6, but before this device I always had LG phones(LG G2, G3). I didn't like G4 mostly because of lack of fingerprint sensor silly reason but I use it alot. So now I was thinking on buying LG G5 or LG V10. I don't think I will use the modulars in LG G5(except maybe I will get an extra battery). So which one do you suggest for me?(you can make other suggestions also) Thank you in advance

Honestly, if you like custom ROMs at all, I would vote no on both LG phones.
I would rather be running CM versus a stock ROM + Xposed. Xposed just seems to have too many issues where apps or tweaks stop working.
I previously had a V10, then via a warranty exchange, they gave me a G5. I accepted the G5 since I decided the V10 was just too big and bulky and the G5 was newer.
Comparing the two, I prefer my G5 over the V10 still. I do feel like the G5 is much more fragile. It is just more plastic-y versus my steel-railed V10. Additionally, the latest software on the G5 is much more feature-filled and polished versus the V10. Don't quite understand why the V10 doesn't have a very similar build of MM, but w/e.
Alternatives? Maybe wait until Oct 4th so we can get a look at Google's phone?
I am probably a bad person for suggestions as it seems like no phone can meet proper standards for me... Now if say the S7 was built by HTC, unlocked, water-resistant, nice 5.1" size... Maybe I would have a new phone myself!

Well, I guess I am a believer that all high-end device cameras are pretty darn good now; Isn't much of a noticeable difference between most of them.
Looking at some lengthy comparisons- http://www.androidcentral.com/camera-showdown-s7-vs-6s-vs-6p-vs-950, looks like it is kind of a toss-up.
What I can't speak for is how fast it is... When comparing my last few phones, Nexus 5 vs V10 vs G5; I would say the order is G5, N5, V10. For whatever reason, from launch to snap took FOREVER on my V10. I LOVE how fast the G5 is, I can take a photo in like 2 seconds, which is a big advantage to me.

It's much more likely to get fully working CM on a Qualcomm device like the G5 than on an Exynos device like the SGS6 or SGS7.
The Nexus 6p is outdated, I wouldn't buy a Snapdragon 810 device now.
The G5 is lightning-fast and has a very good camera. Also the battery runtime is good IMO. With CM or AOSP it would be a tremendous smartphone, let's see if the camera issue will be solved.
But however you decide, you have to buy what you like most.

Sorry for asking all these questions : but is there any development going on on AOSP ROMS for G5? If so what variant should I get?
Depends on you. If you like stock. G5 is a great buy. I don't mind if the H860 has no custom ROM for now as long as the stock official ROM is stable and usable and runs great. To be honest the stock ROM is great. Battery is good, performance is good and everything else. I'm happy that I bought G5. A big leap from my LG G2. Camera, gaming, video and the like are great. Custom ROM's are optional and depends on the user. I do like custom ROM but I'm satisfied with my current state of my G5. :victory:
If it's not too expensive I would go for the LG V20. I am happy with my G5, but I have an european H850 with unlocked bootloader and for a great price
Look into the V20 if you don't mind a larger phone
The phone hardware is amazing but it doesn't have many roms on the software side. I would still get it if I were you. I've had big problems with the Cam+ module I got as a preorder. 3rd one works fine though.
Honestly if you are going to get the LG G5. Get the V20 instead.

I really like it. It took some time getting used to it but I got it on prime day really cheap, so cheap in fact that once I sell it in 2 years I probably will not have lost any money
Battery life is good the cameras are awesome and it is really fast. If you can get a good deal on it, go for it
Heres a bit of an update for you guys!
> When Nougat is released it will be the Android 7.1.1 version.
-- It will take some time to finish, they are perfecting it as the USA version released too early and was found to have many bugs after release, the beta test was too short.
> Root is still in the process - Am unsure if this is for Nougat/Marshmallow and how this is going to work, but internally the process has sped up now, so we will see it after Nougat release.
Hope this helps.

Haha just kidding, its true what rikin93 said zte said that in the beta tester group.
good to hear
This is such good news!! Made my day
But 7.1 will take a bit longer. They actually testing it intern before we test it in the beta.
I sure hope that proper device encryption (including password at bootup that is used for encrypting the internal storage) will be supported for A2017G soon. They promised it for B10 but it didn't seem to have it made into that release. I still have hope that it will show up in Nougat. Is it actually present in the A2017U Nougat release?
There will be official method to unlock phone as you said few weeks ago ?

A2017U has a password ta bootup in Nougat. Wasn't present in MM.
Good to hear that but personally I have my doubts will get directly 7.1.1.
But ZTE should had focus from beginning to that version since have been delay the upgrade to 7.
Since we will get it within March so they are having plenty of time for preparation and no excuse of getting 7 instead of 7.1.1.

There's a similar topic on the official german forum about this. It was commented by ZTE staff yesterday:
"Hello Axon 7 friends!
It seems to be false statement about the update. I want to correct it:
ZTE Germany will publish Android 7.0 at least at the end of the first quarter of the year.
The confusion might have been occurred since the developers are already working on 7.1.

Excellent. I will have moved to a better phone by then.
The signal on this phone is so poor compared to other phones. The sound is great but the software is slow and buggy. The camera is awful compared to many mid range phones. And the support is just rubbish. I'm afraid it was cheap for a reason.
It is only the sound which keeps me using this phone. The new LG will have a quad DAC and that will remove that need. It's a shame but when you compare this phone to my main daily driver - an iPhone 7 Plus (I always carry two phones for various reasons), this is a poor relative, way way behind in 2nd place. If my Note 5 (my other alternative for my second phone) had half decent sound, this phone would have been sold ages ago....

Well with quality control issue with several LG flagship latest years I wish you really good good luck.
You will need 100%.
Also with 3200 battery at 5.7 inches with battery hungry and horrible quality LCD screen LG provide men you will be the best wall charging friends.
With the exception of low light camera performance everywhere else it's at top level and 6 months having the device not had any issue mention.
Before Axon 7 had S7 Edge so you can count that if wasn't pleased I would have returned back to Samsung very easy to me.

What utter nonsense. The modular G5 was plainly a stupid idea. The G4, V10 and V20 were much better. I suspect Samsung will also start adopting decent DACs as well.
Battery life? Also nonsense. My Note 5 has a 5.7" screen and a 3200 battery and lasts as long as, if not longer than, the Axon.
As to signal, I have tested the two side by side and the Axon always loses signal much more quickly. I am not alone in this - loads of reports of it. Bluetooth? Pathetic.

Low light performance ? What about average or high light performance. By modern standards, the camera really is appalling.
And top level performance? Really? Mine (and many others) has never upgraded itself. I have always had to download the updates and apply them. Each upgrade has brought major bugs and the OS skin is appalling (let's not even discuss the notification bell) and buggy. I am not being subjective here - put it next to a Note 5 (which has a much older processor and awful, slow touchwiz) and you will see how the axon is so much less smooth and really struggles when you put it through its paces.
I am not trolling - I have just been around for a long time and seen what is possible in the evolution of phones. Other than the sound quality (which is phenomenal, even if the Bluetooth strength is absolutely crap compared to other phones) the Axon 7 just does not stack up. It wouldn't be an issue if it had been a really cheap phone....
Yes, it is ahead of the OP3 (but probably not the 3T) but that is hardly a good benchmark, not least given the prices
Just my two cents. Not expecting agreement in an Axon 7 forum!!!
Recently I dropped my S5 and cracked the screen. I was running LineageOS and I thought about getting a new phone. I'm currently looking at the Galaxy S7 Edge from last year, and the LG G6 from this year. The S7 is pre-owned, while the G6 is brand new. They cost about the same per month. Which one should I go with? Which is one better supported by LineageOS? One thing I'm really worried about is the camera quality. Will the quality decrease as it did on my S5? I would like to keep the 120fps and 240 recording haha.
Well, i definitely would recommend the G6.
First of all i must say i hate samsung for there touchwiz OS but this can be solved by installing a rom.
But i feel Samsung devices get really slow after a while. In my opinion they are just made to survive 2 years.
I recently own the LG G6 but i must say i really like this phone . It's really fast, has a nice camera and i love the looks of it. For me it's a 100% clear go on the G6.
Good luck with your journey to buying a new phone!

You can always get your screen replaced if you want to keep your S5.
The LG G6 smokes the S5 in all categories, it's not even close.
I'd definitely recommend a brand new LG G6 all day over a used S7.
The camera is great and the phone itself is in competition with the S8 not the S7.
If I'm not mistaken, only the h870 and us997 versions of the G6 can have their bootloaders unlocked for Custom Roms. I don't think any of the S7s are unlockable.

Ah, I see. I'm gonna go with the LG G6 anyway. I was on the fence about flashing LineageOS or any other stock rom for the moment, as the camera quality usually goes down a lot haha. I don't think the LineageOS build for the G6 has OIS or 60/120 fps recording?
Go for G6
Purchased G6 a week ago only.
In love with the phone. The camera and the display is what will make u fall in love even more.
In hardware side it's a bit outdated compared to 2017 standards but it won't let u feel OUTDATED.
So go for a G6 :fingers-crossed: :victory:

(Not sure whether this belongs here or in the "real life review" section somewhere; mods, please move it if you think best.)
Ten days ago my wife and I moved from our venerable Nexus 5 phones to new G6 US997 carrier-unlocked phones. After living with them for a while, here are my impressions.
Things that are better on the G6:
- The display. Blacker black, more saturated color. The tall display ratio doesn't bother me, and the benefit is that we're getting a 5.7" screen in a phone only 2mm wider than the 5" Nexus 5.
- Battery life. My train ride to work would routinely take my battery down below 65% from a full charge; the G6 is usually comfortably above 90% after the same ride.
- Audio. Wasn't even expecting this, but the G6's audio sounds better.
- Build quality. The N5 is utilitarian compared to the slick G6.
- Camera. Much, MUCH better, and the camera app is better too.
- Fingerprint sensor.
Things I miss about the Nexus 5:
- A notification LED. I never realized how much I had come to rely on it.
- The developer community. There were about six times as many ROMs available for the N5 as there are for the G6. Right now a lot of ROMs seem to be in a holding pattern waiting for Oreo to drop. I realize the G6 is a relatively new phone, and the N5 community was old and well established. But I think that's affected by the next point:
- Unified hardware platform across carriers. The N5 had just two versions, an international and a US version, and they differed only in the radio bands. The G6 has all sorts of different versions, most not unlockable unless you get a carrier-unlocked US997 or an H870. I think this is going to curtail the developer community from attaining the N5's level.
- Relative ease of developer modes. Compared to the N5, it's a lot harder to get to the point where you can flash things on the G6.
I've already tried a few different configurations to see what I like best. I flashed Fulmics ROM for a while to try it out, but switched back to rooted stock rom today because it just seemed faster and more stable. Gave the LG stock launcher a fair try, but I'm back to using Nova now. I'll probably stay with this configuration until I see a stable Oreo ROM with LG camera support emerge.
I like the phone, I just wish it were a little bit more developer-friendly.
I absolutely agree with you. The g6 has amazing hardware but everything else does not follow. I'm coming from a op3t and a nexus 6p before that so I do know what SILKY SMOOTH fast performance is, and the g6 is just isnt as smooth. I'm personally waiting till november for the oreo update hoping it will very much improve the g6, otherwise I will never ever even entertain the idea of getting another non google (stock-ish) phone again !
Both the wife and I also came directly from Nexus 5s. The Nexus 5s started to slow down and mine would not charge on the wireless pads anymore. We got Unlocked T-Mobile phones, which came with an unlocking app. We are both on T-mobile so it doesn't really matter anyway. Very happy with the phones and T-mobile is pretty much keeping up with the security patches.

I'm considering making this jump too (Nexus 5 to G6). I really appreciate this review!
Is there any reason you didn't go with the pixel 2? I'm currently trying to decide between the G6 and the Pixel 2-- especially due to that missing headphone jack on the new pixel!

Wireless charging. That's a must-have for me. The headphone jack would probably have been a deal-breaker too, but the real reason was that the G6 has wireless charging.
You're going to chafe a little bit coming from the N5. I haven't installed any AOSP-based G6 ROMs yet, only the stock-based ones, and they're a little bit limiting compared to the wide range of choices you had available on the N5. But the G6 hardware is really, really nice, and the ROM support is coming along. It'll be interesting to see what happens when Oreo drops.

I'm considering making this jump too (Nexus 5 to G6). I really appreciate this review!
Is there any reason you didn't go with the pixel 2? I'm currently trying to decide between the G6 and the Pixel 2-- especially due to that missing headphone jack on the new pixel!

for me pixel 2 is a get go if u want all rounder better experience in android. my previous phone is nexus 6p and oneplus 3, now I using g6 with some sacrifice laggy software.
why I still prefer g6:
1. wide angle camera
2. flat screen!! curved screen hard to find a perfect tg glass
3. my version is dual sim, because I often travel. my primary sim number used for many security access. so I need a convenient phone that can disable enable my primary sim.
4. the overall design so elegant

My previous phone was a Nexus 6P.
I sold it about six weeks ago and bought the LG G6.
I had to pay an extra $25 (sold the 6P for $425) I also bought the extended warranty through SquareTrade for $99.
The warranty was a wash since the 6P was going out of warranty and I would have had to buy SquareTrade for it.
I got the unlocked US997 from B&H.
Anyway. It smokes the 6P on all fronts except stereo speakers.
I never listened to the speakers anyway.
The flat screen is awesome. I will never buy a phone with a curved screen.
Hello,
can you tell me please which phone is better ?
Im deciding about this two phones.
I love this notch display, but the LG G6 has IP68 and i think better support with android and custom roms.
Personaly i dont see any big reason for you to go for g6, ip68 and roms are not a deal breaker for me.
What you do with your phone, swim? every phone can last with some splash water on it.
And roms, yea, if you are in for that, but still i wont go.
G6 its an old phone already, sd821 its ok but its still under k970, if you are „lucky” you get it with the bad wide camera lens and its almoast useless with that feature.
Better support?i dont think so. I bet with you that only lg g7 and v30 have the last security patch available from google, and the rest are way behind.
