Could anybody advise me if the following is possible?
I use my S3 in my car, plugged into a powered Brodit cradle.
From here, I play music (and sometimes use Co-Pilot).
The issue I have is that the screen keeps switching off (when SatNav isn't on), after a set period.
I want the screen to be permanently on, when I'm driving, so if I glance at the handset, I can see what's playing/coming next etc.
The maximum timeout I can see in the settings is 30 mins, which isn't even remotely long enough for me.
The developer option of keeping the screen awake doesn't seem to be available on the S3.
I've tried Tasker, and setting up a profile to keep the screen awake when plugged in, but it doesn't seem to work. (also the screen still dims, even before switching off).
I've also tried Widgetsoid and having a switcher set up to keep screen permanently on, but that still dims too.
Is there an app available, that would do what I'm looking for maybe?
Many thanks.
I had wondered about this too.

I hope you realize you will most likely damage you display with burn-in , one of the few example i have heard of burn-in happening is with car-navigation.
You can keep your brightness low as possible, also using a product like "display tester" run the burn-in recovery regulary.
Though it would be recommended you buy a dedicated gps-sat nav.
John.
If that's what you want, install extended controls from market and add "screen always on"] toggle to your desktop

Hmm, thanks for the advice on buying SatNav. That won't help much with the music player, which is my main issue. (The handset stays on when using SatNav, which is obviously required when using it).
I've used all my previous phones (iPhones, HTC's etc in this way, and not suffered any burn-in. I'd be suprised if I get burn in after an hour's drive home, but I'll take the risk.).
You may tap the screen every 29 minutes actually lol.

I think I may have found a solution.

Seems to allow me to select an app which, when active, will keep the screen alive, but when not active, will shut off like normal.
If this works, it's great.
Thanks again guys.
Try Keepscreen from the play store. I use navigation approximately 6 hours weekly previously on my S2 and now my S3, no need for a dedicated GPS.
For anyone else who stumbles across this page, and wants to keep their screen on playing music in the car, I solved my issue in the end by using Power Amp, which has a built in option to keep the screen alive.
I use PowerAMP too, so have that option already also.
However, I do still want the basic option which was present on my previous Android phone to make the screen stay alive whenever the device is operating on external power (it was in the Developer section before, but seems to have disappeared).
I don't mind if the screen dims a little, but I don't want it to turn itself off while the power cable is attached (although I could always do it myself, using the power button, if I want).
Otherwise, when running on batteries, I DO want it to timeout and turn off as usual after 30 seconds. Including when I'm playing music in PowerAMP on battery power.
Is this an ICS issue, or a Samsung vs. HTC one?
Andre
"Keepscreen" and "screen on" does the same, keeps the screen on .
It's just what u prefer
I've installed Screen On which seems to do the trick, just wondering where the Android system option went to?
Andre
Stay Awake
1. Open the settings
2. Click on 'About device'
3. Click on 'Build number' 7 times
4. Go back to settings screen and you will see 'Developer options'. From here you can access the 'Stay Awake' function again.

Really? The Developer Options menu is already there on mine, but there is no "stay awake while on power" option. Which version of Android are you running to see the Stay Awake feature on a Galaxy S3?
Andre
thank you

I just wanted to say that worked wonders for me, while the previously mentioned program did not. (most likely because they probably haven't been updated for my device yet.)
Thank you for that one.

What this is:
It is a little trick to change the slot cycle index in the phone programming menu from default value 2 to value 1 .
What this Does:
It changes the frequency the phone checks the towers for incoming calls. If you are like me, you have probably had times where you will have phone calls that only ring for like 5 secs and then the person hangs up. When you call them back they say they were on there till your voicemail. That, to me, was very annoying. So i came across this little trick and it works as follows
The default Value 2=3.015434secs
The value we are changing to is 1=1.507717secs
You can change this to how you see fit, I have tested and noticed there is no considerable drain on the battery at "1" and theoritcally speaking, putting it higher will conserve battery as your phone isn't constantly pinging the towers for calls but i have never tried that...
0= Don't know what it does as I have never tried zero
1= 1.507717secs
2= 3.015434secs(Default)
3= 4.523151secs
etc....
How to do it
1.Get MSL Reader from Google play if you are rooted
Or
Call sprint and ask them your MSL number.
2.Dial ##3282# » Click "Edit Mode" » enter your MSL Number and tap ok.
3.Go to "Advanced" menu » tap "Slot Cycle Index" and change its value to "1".
4.Hit Menu » Commit Modifications.
A Window will appear asking for reboot. Hit ok and you are done. Let the phone reboot for changes to take effect.
Hi guys,
Sometime you got blur picture when using Camera even you took it with steady hand.
This is happen because gyro sensor in G2 is not working/calibrate
Here is how to check it whether is working or not
1) Go to hidden menu by dial 3845#*80X#, replace X with your phone model. This is only for models 800/801/802, etc, for other models search this forum how to enter Hidden Menu
2) Choose Device test -> Individual item -> camera OIS, put your phone and flat surface, don't move it and then click Start
3) The result should be Gyro : PASS, Hall : PASS, Driver : PASS
If you get Gyro : FAIL, then you should calibrate your sensor. Go to Settings -> General -> Gestures -> Motion sensor calibration.
After calibration, check again your camera OIS, now it should be pass all test.

See for yourself! Any solution for this? Seller (which is a famous one) says there is no warranty!

The screen sensitivity or the constant audio feedback? From what I saw the plastic film was still on the front screen. That can be a factor but try to set it to home screen. This seems like a defect screen and you should definately fight your seller.

i would flash the phone with a stock firmware or soft reset ( holding down buttons )
It appears to me that the phone is in Talkback mode. It's a mode so partially sighted people can use the phone, you'll need to double tap to make selections (the idea is that in this mode, you single tap to explore the screen and the phone reads out what you tapped so you then tap what you need to use), when you get though the setup, go to settings, accessibility and then turn talkback off.
Anyway like I said, you'll need to double tap to make your selections.

Hi,
Is there a way to deactivate the fade in animation when waking up the screen, i find it very annoying . I like it to be instantaneous.
I know is possible to reduce the speed animation in developer options but it does mess with other animations not only the screen wake up.
This annoys me, too. There is a slow fade in when hitting the power button to go to the lock screen and using the fingerprint sensor to go straight to the home screen.
I believe this is my only gripe with the device. My Mate 9 was instantaneous on both fronts.
you must ctivate "developer options" menu (it is hidden under "about phone", you can easily find instructions for activation)
and there you shall find the settings for all parts of animation (transition, etc); if you set them on zero, then everything will become instant-quick, no fade-in etc

As I said in my previous post, the problem when reducing speed animation is that other system transitions like multitasking and dropping notifications panel are also affected and look horrible.
I dont know why samsung dont offer the option of deactivating this annoying fade in

As far as I know sammy are the only ones to implement this "feature" in their smartphones ....
I would have switched to another phone juste because of that "feauture" but there are many good things in the s9+ that make me keep it.
