Hi,
I've recently tested user profiles on android devices (samsung galaxy tab a android 8.1 and xiaomi mi a1 android 9) and they seem very hard walled from each other, yet the switching between them is surprisingly fast and easy. Now my question, could they be useful to isolate untrusted apps from the main profile that's linked to my online accounts? With untrusted I mean generally harmless but nosy apps from the play store (with a blank google account ofc).
Thanks in advance for your answers!

I'm using a Nexus 4 and trying to get rid of all the Google tracking services and their built-in Android background communications with Google servers. I have already searched the internet and found a few articles about this, however most of them were outdated or didn't answer my questions.
I do like the look and feel of stock Android, which is why I would probably go for CyanogenMod for this. In an optimal world, it would retain its current look and feel, but without communicating with Google.
My questions that I currently have pretty much are as follows (when using CyanogenMod):
- is it possible to keep using SOME Play store / stock apps but taking their permission to send information to Google? For example, I still want to use whatsapp and I doubt I can find it in the F-Droid store, or perhaps i like the Google camera app, and so on
- is it possible to turn off all Google tracking services (obvious things such as Google Now, but also the less obvious, like the constant hidden communications with Google servers) using CyanogenMod?
Hello everybody,
i just got an acer liquid e700.
unfortunately, there's no cyanogenmod available for it, and scanning this and other android forums i soon realised that, if i use some inoffical rom, i will most probably loose the triple sim functionality.
so, how can i make sure my acer liquid e700 with stock android 4.4.2 kitkat does not call home to google?
it is rooted already.
i do not have a google account, so there's already quite a lot of stuff that wouldn't work anyway and can be disabled/uninstalled: drive, gmail, google (search?), google settings, google+, hangouts, maps, google photos, "play movies & tv", play newsstand, play store.
(that in itself is an impressive list. phew)
however, is that enough? there's still some questionable apps. most of all, acer's own apps.
...before i go into much more detail, maybe some guide is already out there?
bonus if it's for acer devices that ship with their very own brand of spyware.
in the end, i'm not a cryptofreak, but i'd like my phone to be as safe as my linux desktop:
i want to decide who and when uses the network, and i want to make sure that apps don't spy on other apps.
i want to listen to my local (on my desktop computer) music collection without google & the world knowing about it. just an example.
ps:
i'm planning on using f-droid as much as possible.
i read an article on a german android forum that said: things to do BEFORE your android phone goes into the internet for the first time:
http://www.android-hilfe.de/thema/c...es-das-1-mal-ins-internet-geht-afwall.611866/
it comes down to having a working firewall and block everything, before you put data cards in or use wifi.
there's an older article here:

and these were also helpful:

here's a similar thread on that german forum:

Hi,
I'm looking to get a secured space where I can launch some android apps with my personal data.
That a way I can separate personal data of work data.
I know samsung provide "knox" which is the best solution, but it's not working in others brand device.
Earlier, I had on my Nexus tab, the possibility to use an owner account and to swype to an "guess" account which can also a solution,
but it seems to not be available on recent release of android.
So anyone can give me some solution availabe ?
Cheers?

Which version of Android are you using? I have android n stock and there is the user option if you go to the settings app, there you can find the guest option and other options as well.
Well, I didn't find it on android 6 on my Xperia M4 Aqua.
On my Samsung S6, there're android 7, after many research I dind't find it. This phone is a very good device with knox but after a falling ugrade
the knox count rise to 1, so knox saw that as a security issue and it can't still running on.
So are are you sure it's always remains on android 6 and 7 ?
I have searched internet for below mentioned queries but could not find a solution. Hope someone can help out here.
(1) How to remove the unnecessary Google apps?
I read somewhere (and on this forum as well) that this can be done through Google Playstore but I dont see the options in Google Playstore account. (Maybe it doesnt work anymore)
(2) How do I remove Mi App Store and other Mi apps?
Can it be uninstalled... or atleast disabled?
(3) What is authenticity of Security app?... remove Cheetah, Tencent?
I am not sure how reliable this pre-installed Security app is or whether it is authentic as I dont see it in Google Playstore (I dont feel comfortable to have any app in my mobile which is not on Google Playstore).
New Android devices actually dont need app/memory cleaner, etc. There are numerous negative reviews about Cheetah, etc. I saw that Security app uses engine of Cheetah, Tencent, etc. Better to remove it?
(4) I dont see many settings in Camera. Is there guide to actually understand the settings, how to use, etc?
(5) I see that there are guides thread in bit and pieces, but is there any complete PDF, user maual or user guide for Redmi 4A or MIUI 8?
Thanks!
First off, I hope I'm posting this in the correct area
This may be a fantasy, but I will state my idea, and if you know any way of making it a reality, OR if it already exists, I would really appreciate your advice & help!
The idea is basically a super lightweight custom ROM that would work (be able to be flashed on) on a lot of different devices. (multiple android phones & tablets)
Preferably, I want it to run on the most stable version of Android
No play store, only a predetermined set of apps to be installed along with the ROM
No stock browser or any native apps that have a browser built-in
Basically, there are a few applications for this product, 2 that come to mind.
The most obvious, Kid friendly - I know about the parental controls available, I want something 'bulletproof'.
To ensure productivity and reduce distractions among employees.
I would also want a browser that is whitelist-based that can have the whitelist updated remotely, every time the browser connects to the internet, (either on startup of the app or in the background) it would check the whitelist and update itself with the new definitions. Ideally, I would want a Chrome-based browser with a built-in adblocker.
I know the lines are blurred from custom ROM to custom apps. I hope I'm not dreaming of a unicorn
(The native apps preferred would be The Camera, Messages and phone apps)
I think what you looking for is "Kids Space" from oxygenOs and colorOs 13. Now even I'm looking for the same for older oneplus devices.
You had any luck with it?
