Something to manage nandroids on the PC? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'd like some kind of software for PC for managing nandroid backups. Pretty much a database of backups with some settings, similar to how you can automatically download podcasts in music players and automatically delete old ones.
So for example if I make a lot of nandroids I can have it setup to automatically delete older ones based on how many new backups I have and/or how much time has passed. I can see details about what's contained in the backup, etc... whatever else would be useful.
I want something that can easily set names on each of them (in the software for display to the user only, not necessarily on the files/folders) and display the date and time of each as well as any other relevant information possible to obtain from the nandroids.
Is there anything out there like this or do I need to stick to making notes and creative folder names?

[Q] Sync files between PC, Android and Cloud automatically

Hi guys,
that is a problem that has bothered me for a long time and I'd really like a solution to this.
I'll start with an example:
Say, I have a folder on my PC. It contains subfolders and mostly but not only pdf files. I want to have that data on my Tablet/Phone too. But I don't want to have to transfer it through a USB cable or something similar. I want to have a two-way sync, so when I edit something on my PC / tablet, I want to change the file on the other device too.
And, most importantly, I want it to work in the background. I don't want to open an app on my tablet and tell it to download a folder, I just want it to see, what has changed and download that content LOCALLY.
Sure, that eats up space but I don't have that many documents.
I hope, I made my point clear, so is there anyone who can help or has any advice on how to achieve that?
Thanks in advance!.
Don
You can use dropsync pro to do 2 way sync in the background, on a schedule, or auto-detect changes.

[Q] Encryption app for folders, preferably multi-platform as well

I'm looking for an app that will allow me to encrypt folders (preferably without having to go through a third-party file manager) on my Galaxy Note 2 and Nexus 7, while possibly being able to also decrypt and view the folder/files on a Windows or Mac machine.
BoxCryptor is one that I've looked into but I'm not sure if it will allow me to encrypt folders within folders.
A little bit of background for what I need this for... I'm a medical health professional and there are times when I have sensitive data about some of my patients that I need to access via my phone/tablet/home/work computer. I don't necessarily need the folder of patient data to sync across all devices but if that could be done (say via DropBox or WebDAV, encrypted), that would be a bonus.
There are some apps on Google Play that seem like they might work:
Encryption Manager
Safe+
DroidCrypt
If anyone has any feedback on any of the above, or can recommend an app that I've missed (or a link to another xda post that I missed in my searches), that would be much appreciated. I'd rather not have to pay for each one to see if it fits my criteria.
Thanks in advance!

@cdnmaplechick, did you have any luck with all this? EDS is another one you could try, but I'm not sure if it can do what you want without rooting your device. If you are comfortable rooting your device Cryptonite is an additional option.
If I understand you correctly I am also looking for something similar (which is how I ended up finding your post). I'd like an app that can encrypt specified folders such that other apps can interact with the contained encrypted files without any trouble (this would be very analogous to how TrueCrypt works for Windows computers). I know there is full device encryption available for Android, but that has its drawbacks. I think what you and I are both wanting is something like full device encryption, but being able to limit it to a few designated folders.
I'd love to hear anything you're willing to share about your experiences (positive or negative) with pursuing all this!
Edit: Forgot to mention a secure syncing service you might be interested in: SpiderOak. I have not yet used their Android app, but I use SpiderOak for Windows all the time to securely sync sensitive data between multiple Windows computers (the data is stored in TrueCrypt volumes on each computer).
Apparently this works with Truecrypt so it will work when you transfer it to a Mac or PC

Droidcrypt should do entire folders, but has a lot of neg reviews. Personally I wouldn't use any closed source encryption app you have no idea if they're actually generating true random numbers or if it's junk software.
LUKS is free and open source, if your phone is rooted
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nemesis2.luksmanager you can just copy folders into the virtual encrypted folder it creates.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mrpdaemon.android.encdroid is open source, free and works with dropbox
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup Carbon now uses encrypted backup
There's also APG http://thialfihar.org/projects/apg/
You can use PGP to encrypt/decrypt files (perhaps folders?) for transferring to another computer. Or if both your Nexus and your PC/Mac is using full disc encryption then you can just transfer the folders to each other in the clear with USB.

Yeah, I've felt ambivalent about Droidcrypt. It should do what I want but they feel like such an unknown; they don't even have a website (not that that would make them automatically safer, but I'd at least be able to get a little more of sense of who I'm trusting my data to).

Thanks for those additional links, and especially for Encdroid! I'm a fan of open source, and it looks like the author's on the XDA forums:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1917665
I definitely want to check that one out further.
How about Cryptonite? https://code.google.com/p/cryptonite/ It says it uses TrueCrypt.
Yes cryptonite seems to be a good solution.

Hello friends
Is an application for Android that folders can be encrypted and password-access to that folder wherever necessary, same encryption on the kms 9(Kaspersky Mobile Security 9 v9.4.96 – S60v3)

[Q] How do you change a configuartion of apps?

There are various ways to change to a new configuration of apps, of which some I know and, undoubtedly, some I don't. As I don't have the full overview of the possibilities I want to ask your opinion on your favorite way to change the configuration of apps, and the associated pro's and con's.
What do you mean by 'changing the configuration of apps', you may ask...
Well, I would like to be able to quickly change a set of installed/available apps to another set.
Why?
Because out of all apps installed I use 10-20% on regular days, but on holidays/at work/on the beach/late in the evening/... I use another set. I now have all available, slowing down my phone and limiting battery life considerably.
What if you could quickly switch from one set to another depending on your needs?
I've learned about the following ways to do just that:
- Using nandroid backups, with each a different configuration
- Titanium backup (pro)
Do you know of an easier way?
Please let me know.

Copying current months images to a dedicated folder?

Folks;
unsure whether this is the best forum for my question - apologies if this is completely off here. I want to get photo management on my device a bit improved (thousands of images, several different camera and processing apps each of them storing to different folders). I am looking for an automatism, app, ... that does more or less the following:
* Run either on demand (which is ok for me) or periodically at the end of each month.
* Create a monthly image folder <YEAR>_<MONTH> in some configurable place, if not already existing. external SD would be best for this, but is not strictly required.
* Find all images taken (or processed) in the current month in a bunch of configurable folders (DCIM, Pictures, ...).
* Move all these findings over to the <YEAR>_<MONTH> backup folder.
I placed a similar question (http://forum.xda-developers.com/u/t...ate-monthly-image-folder-external-sd-t3420418) in the Tasker forum but actually I am completely unsure whether I want/need Tasker, Automate or something like this to get this job done. Maybe some sync application, a "better" file manager, an image gallery, ... also can do that job. Important, however, would be for me that manual effort to get this done is pretty limited - I do not want to manually select and move a bunch of files but essentially an "icon", an app, ... that can be launched and does just that.
TIA and all the best,
Kristian
For whatever it's worth, just to close this: After playing around with various solutions, the most comfortable approach I found was creating an Automate (http://llamalab.com/automate/community/) flow that manages to do exactly this. Ask me if interested.

Is there a Pocket like app, but just for bits of text, not the whole pages?

Does anyone know of an app that would behave like Pocket, but instead of saving the whole page it would allow you just to save bits of text from pages?
Its for learning purposes mostly. I spend a lot of times on FB groups or similiar places, and in like 90% of cases I need to save just one post in a thread, or just a short bit of text. Saving the whole page is counter productive cause either I forget why exactly I saved it, or I have to spend a lot of times looking for the exact info I wanted.
Pocket works great for what it's intended, and I would need something similar. Right now copy and paste seems to be the best solution, but when I send it to OneNote it adds it to new page, and what's worse it won't let me choose which workbook.
So, I need to be able to save part of text (saving images too would be a plus) and be able to quickly find it (via tags or something else). And of course, the ability to export it all. Can anyone recommend something?
I use Google Keep in exactly the manner you describe.
Take a screenshot, crop the image to only the important stuff. Move the images to a special folder perhaps, using any file manager. That's how I do it
