I think I'm going nuts. I've had a mate 9 and 10 over the years, so this is my third EMUI device... but it's got me stumped where I can find my own 3rd party live wallpapers to apply on the 20 Pro. All I get is the Huawei built in themes? Even when I choose "me" I get none of my own. I know I can go and apply a photo via the gallery but I love my Beautiful Widgets live weather wallpaper, but I have no idea how to apply it. Just won't show up....anywhere. Would anyone have an idea what I am doing wrong?
I chose settings->search themes->themes>me->my wallpapers->choose live wallpapers
That will show which love wallpapers have been installed. My KWLP is there too

Hi all, this is my first post on here (ever) so go easy!
After owning 3x Mate 9's (MHA-L09 & L29) over the course of the last year, I decided to treat myself and have just received my shiny new Mocha Brown Mate 10 (ALP-L29), imported to the UK from Singapore.
I've noticed one or two "teething" issues however, most niggling being the size of the icons/home screen grid and notifications on the pull down menu, they're all huge!
I have view mode and text size set to "small" in display settings though it doesn't help.
I think, could be wrong, that EMUI 5.0 on the Mate 9 had a "smallest" setting?
Anyway, I was able to shrink the icons, widgets etc to a much smaller size.
Can anyone help with this or am I going to have to hope (and pray) for a software update that addresses this?
It's such a big, beautiful display and is a shame filling it with giant icons....
Any suggestions appreciated!
Thanks.
When both view mode is set to small on mate 9 and Mate 10, yes the mate 9 icons are slightly smaller.

I thought so, must be a coming fix for this?
Just feels like the fantastic screen real estate is wasted.
There should really be a 6x6 grid option built in to stock Emui don't you think?
I know Nova can provide it, but really want to stay stock for now with phone being so new!
(I may even be first in UK with it, not sure!)

2nd then! What's your impressions so far?
Especially relating to launcher scale?
I've also noticed another issue where I can't delete Gmail emails from the notification shade.

Someone said Huawei Widgets and Nova launcher together has some problems. Maybe try another weather widget from play store?

With the last nova update, no crash anymore dude
I tried to persist with the stock launcher but it got the best of me. It just lacks so many features.
I've used alot of launchers but obviously Nova is a good starting point ( it didn't crash for me) and also evie is another one. My every day launcher is action launcher and it is excellent on the mate 10. Launchers come down to personal preference but in my opinion there are plenty out there that are better than the stock one.
Also pixel 2 launcher apk on this great forums is very good and smooth

I got the crash when I add the Huawei weather widget. I guess it is not compatible with Nova Launcher.

Same here. BLA-029 .119(C636). Latest version of Nova launcher. Can anyone confirm if they are NOT having this problem? Thanks all.
Same problem here. Seems like view mode doesn't affect the size of the icons on the home screen and the size of the notification toggles. I've had the phone for 2 hours and its been bugging me ever since. I hope someone can fix this. I really hate my icons looking so big.
For smaller icons in stock launcher you have to find an icon pack with smaller icons size. I did it in app Huawei Themes https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.deishelon.lab.thememanager You can install new theme from this app which is called "card", and then apply icons from this theme in the native Huawei's theme app. For me icons from card theme look nicely and are smaller than original ones. Give it a try.
Currently using Pixel Launcher and icons are smaller now but the notification toggles are still huge.
When choosing one of the launchers mentioned in this thread, can you still use the navigation dock?
Hi is it possible to use nova launcher on the mate 10 pro? Also is it possible to use google stock apps for dialler, messaging and photos? Basically replace Huawei apps with google apps?
Yes it is! I am doing just that on the Mate 10 (non-pro) so I am sure it will work the same for the pro version.
Settings -> Apps & notifications -> Default apps
I had read that there were some issues running Nova over the EMUI. I'm really tempted to get this phone but with the Nova Android experience I am afraid. Also hoping for a slight price drop
Not sure what you read...or where...but I have used Nova on this (and all my phones) for years and there are no issues for me???
Nova can crash when you're trying to add a emui widget to it. I had to replace the stock clock widget with a 3rd party widget because of that...

Not exactly. Luncher Nova crashes and system suggests uninstall it.
Some of you are saying it crashes and others are saying emui works fine. Now whicb is correct
I use Nova everyday with no issue and have been for three weeks on the Mate 10 pro. I am not sure about the EUMI widgets causing issues because I don't use them on Nova. My friend has an honor 8 and runs Nova everyday for a year with no major issues. Sometimes if nova updates you may have to reset it as your default launcher. I would say you shouldn't have any major issues with Nova but your mileage may vary.
Well, since the EUMI widgets are causing the crashes then I would lay the blame directly on EUMI. Nova works great on all phones so....YMMV. I don't use widgets at all. My Mate 10 runs great without issue using Nova Prime as the launcher.
Nova works fine on the Mate 10 Pro as long as you don't use the stock EMUI widgets. If concerned about widgets and not bothered about paying then get KWLP or/and KWGT - you can get some good screens and widgets for free if you look around

I heard that the Mate 10 pro crashes running other launchers. Causes the device to restart and resets to default launcher. I want to get the next Hauwei P series but worried about EMUI causing unwanted problems. I would like to use Nov launcher but won't put up.with the bugs that come with it. Not if I'm paying a premium price for a flagship handset

Read posts, its Huawei stock widgets causing problems and happens with all other launchers. Don't use Huawei widgets and you be fine. The problem is not Nova Launcher, it is Huawei widgets.

Another problem is that EMUI running on the Mate 10 pro has notification problems. You don't receive notifications most of the time. Also app crashes are frequent on this device. This is really disappointing as it is a beautiful device. I want to upgrade to the new P20 pro but worried about software problems

Same, been using the Mate 10 Pro for a month with nova launcher. Never had a single crash or reboot.
Never had issues with notifications, messages or calls. No complaints here.

I was speaking about using Nova Launcher on mate 10 (non-pro) without issue. I use the default dialer now with a dark theme, but for a while I was using the Asus ZenUI Dialer and Contacts app which worked just fine for me. I do not use widgets at all.

Thanks, I am using the same dialer, but, I want the google's... Don't know why I can not use it, maybe an Emui limitation.
Hi,
I have set my wallpaper to a static wallpaper, have also changed lockscreen so not running magazine lock, but my wallpaper still changes
Anyone know how to properly stop this from changing on stock rom without using a root fix or changing the rom
this is on the mate 10 pro
thanks

i left lockscreen to magazine, went in
security and privacy, screen lock and password, magazine unlock and removed all subscriptions and autoupdates, and deleted all magazine photos from gallery. you can add your choice for lockscreen photo there, apply one from theme app or apply from gallery.

cheers for that, will see how it goes, i had previously disabled the subscriptions, but not deleted the images from the folder - must be a bug or a setting somewhere that overrides the user settings as everything was disabled, it hadn't changed the picture for a few days so thought I had originally fixed it, hopefully this step has done that
thanks
It changed again, even though everything disabled and no images in magazine unlock folder

have no idea. i just did thise 2 things and applied wallpaper form gallery. didnt change for 10 days. i would use differnt lockscreen style but magazine one is the only that gives me notifications. maybe its firmware bug. and change back to magazine style if you didnt.
Hahaha and i wanna know how to get it back
I have a rooted Mate 10 pro (Magisk root) and the magazine won't be downloaded. I only get the information that there is an update when I go to the menu. I'm not sure whether the root is the reason for that. Could anybody confirm that?
Hello everyone,
I'm DasMalzbier. I'm new here, so please be gentle
But as for my problem:
Since September my Live-Wallpapers are not working
To give you some information:
I'm using a rooted Samsung Galaxy S8+. It was rooted using Odin/Magisk/RMM state bypass (hxxps://galaxys8root.com/galaxy-s8-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s8-or-s8-plus-on-android-8-0-oreo)
I have customized and been using it since months now. Before the live wallpaper stopped working, I used the "Stalker Kitten Live Wallpaper" and it worked.
I have the alternative launcher Nova installed.
Interestingly, I can still set Videos and Gif as animated backgrounds. But not as live wallpapers (Via Live Wallpaper Picker). I am not able to pick any kind of live wallpaper as a background.
What happens if I try is that the app simply closes (as normal) and I am stuck with my old, unmoving background.
I do have frozen some apps via package disabler, but all wallpaper related to wallpapers should be working.
Infinity wallpaper do work.
Any ideas what to do? Or a way to get around the problem (i.e. make a wallpaper an infinity wallpaper). I don't want to do a hard reset because I already customized so much... And if I were to do it with Titanium Backup, wouldn't the cache also get saved?
Thanks in advance!
Malzbier
Hi All,
Just recently got the Mate 20 Pro and I am really enjoying it!
One disappointment is that my previous phone (P20 Pro) had an option to randomly change the wallpaper, like from my camera gallery pictures. This is was my favourite feature! This option does not seem to be available in the Mate 20 pro, except for a "Magazine" feature for the lock screen. This is, obviously, not the same.
Does any one know if this is a bug or if it is hidden in a different menu?
Thanks
Chris
Can't find it too on my phone shipped with a French ROM.
I started to use "Wallpaper Changer" application from the store instead.
