Since the Keyboard Dock is the major difference between the Prime and ALL other tablets (there are keyboards out there, and there are docks out there, but other than the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet (Nice! Still a Tegra 2 Device though) there's no other tablets offering the slick KB/Battery/Dock combination that looks and works like this.
Ahh, my first slip. The "works" comment needs to be examined. How many of you find navigating with the keyboard a bit inconsistent, sometimes difficult, and see the cursor move to the top left (to the first cursor position in the block) when typing in web text boxes - like when replying on XDA forums.
I know to turn off the touchpad using the hardware toggle top row 4th key from left. That does not change the cursor jump thing however. I have checked and tried to determine if I am inadvertently striking a key, or even touching the screen perhaps, but I do not see that being the case
Additionally selecting, cutting, copying, pasting are all inconsistent at best, and non functional in some scenarios. Example: I select some text by touching the screen on the text, then dragging slightly right or left. This will generally work, the text gets highlighted, and 2 drag points are provided. Using these, I define what the start and end points are, and select copy for example. Great, then I select an insertion point via tap and hold a second. A "Paste" button pops up by my finger, and tap that. GREAT! I just completed copy paste 101! Now, I go to do it again. Not so good. I try to select text, but all I can get is an insertion point for pasting, and no matter what I try, that's all I can do.
I realize this smacks of user error, and I am perfectly willing to admit I am possibly being a retard. If that's the case, can someone tell me how to clear the mode, and be able to select text again? I have tried what would make sense on a PC; hitting escape when it is trying to paste instead of selecting. NG.
What truly puzzles me (more than the right click = "back" bit of Android weirdness) is that I can select text like I am used to by holding shift, and using the cursor arrow keys to highlight any block of text, but once selected, STILL have to tap/hold to do anything with it. And even THAT seems limited to cut/copy or backspace to delete. Further, it is also subject to the "stuck in paste" mode I described above. I am not a touch typist, more of a "fast & furious" two finger guy, perhaps 50wpm, which is not bad but the limitation is I must look at the keyboard about 75% of the time. Then I look and see the errors, and fight with text select/cut/copy/paste all over again.
I am interested to see others take on the keyboard and these Asus/Android text issues. I would like to assemble a set of documentation that explains the behavior, the known issues and/or the workarounds or resolutions, a complete Keyboard Shortcut List (The one I attached is very good but far from perfect)
Finally here's a great tip: I am sure most have noticed the glaring absence of a true "Delete" key. All we have is a Backspace key, which is good HALF of the time, LOL. When you need to delete text to the RIGHT of the cursor you are SOL. TIP: Try this: SHIFT + BACKSPACE = DELETE
I just searched on this, knowing that I am not likely to be the first to discover this (I am not, Tips show up of OG Transformer.) Anyway, I am at least passing on the discovery for others to benefit. Also, don't forget to change the software keyboard to ASUS when using the dock KB.
I haven't used my dock much, but the other day while writing an email, the cursor jumped as you described. I thought I'd just brushed up against the touchpad, so I disabled it, finished writing my email and sent it.
I was assuming that was what the issue had been, and I haven't really used the dock since, so I haven't had a chance to see the problem happen again... I would suspect that if the cursor still jumps for you there's some sort of bug though (and I will still see the cursor jump as well.)
I'll play around with it and report my findings.
I have found as you mentioned if you do not disable the mouse pad you will be plagued with typing issues. I noticed that when the touchpad is on if my wrists hit the aluminum within a 1/8th of an inch of the touchpad it still caused the issues but with the touch screen I have 0 use for the mouse so its always disabled.

I was curious about this warning when I first plugged in my dock. What exactly is the difference? I've had my KB set to Thumb Keyboard the whole time and haven't noticed any problems. What's to be gained from using ASUS?
I'm curious too... to be honest I'm not sure what mine is set to, but it's whatever it defaulted to (I haven't checked it or changed it.)
By the way, I tested my dock with the touchpad disabled, and experienced no jumping cursors. I wrote quite a lenthgy, babbling test email to myself, and everything went totally as it should.

I think I understand what you are explaining and what our frustrations are. And most of them are with the select/copy/paste function. Please be aware that this function changes depending on where you are/what program/app you are using. It is not always the dock's "fault". It's the same way if you were just using the tablet. I think the best example is if you are trying to cut/paste/select in an email (gmail, whatever) versus doing the same thing typing in a text or a polaris document or a google search item. Some apps and programs give you different functions (if I understand it correctly) - I say this because I see this difference on my phone, not just with the Prime and dock. Not with everything, but with many things.
Does that make sense? I get frustrated with it too because it is inconsistent.
One thing that HAS driven me mad is caps lock!! ever notice it get stuck on? Shift, caps lock, shift, escape....I can't get it unlocked until I just randomly peck away at each and it stops
I don't have any of these issues and I never disable the track pad, I love this keyboard its perfect for note taking in class and emails. As for the copy/paste I haven't tried that too much yet, its easy enough to select text.

I originally would leave the keyboard set to the swift keyboard with the dock attached thinking it just worked the same but I eventually noticed errors. Seems to be program specific in that these errors could be repeated in certain programs and not others. Been a while now since I gave up using swift with the dock so I don't remember specifics but it was something like it worked just fine for most programs but in one program the T button would produce the wrong letter but everything else was fine or in another program the I button would not produce any letter but the rest of the keyboard would work. When using splashtop on for my desktop it was even more erratic where individual programs on the computer would react differently to the keyboard input and some in a very severe way. I thought it was an issue with splashtop until I switched to Asus keyboard with the dock and all the aforementioned problems went away... and then I learned that many keyboard shortcuts work with Asus keyboard like a regular computer so I just make sure and make the switch when I connect to the dock.
Oh, and I have to disable the touchpad. Mouse pointer and input jumps all over the place if I type with a that enabled.

That jumping to the first line is the only thing that annoys me sometimes. Everything else is perfect. We are all used to operate a windows machine with our keyboards. So this is a slightly different experience.
I found it works best if embrace the touchscreen even with dock attached. We are all still learning how to use our primes the most efficient way.
I have the Backspace key stop working quite often. Sometimes it starts working again after i press "Shift" (regardless of caps lock being on or off). Does this happen to anyone else?
If your having problems copying, tap where you want to begin a copy, hold shift and press a cursor key in the direction you want to copy, then ctrl + c, ctrl + v.
You can also use home and end to copy large amounts of text.
Well, I use my Prime at the uni, at mostly with the dock (much much much faster to write stuff). I find it perfect, honestly! Very useful and comfortable (ok, the first day is was kind of strange, but with training everything is alright).
The standard ctrl-c (copy), ctrl-x (cut), and ctrl-v (paste) shortcuts work on highlighted text. So, that avoids the need to long-press the selected text to act on it.

This ^^^
I never use the screen for copy/paste, I've always hated trying to select very specific text with touchscreens.
And I have not noticed this fail to work in any of my apps.
Now if only we could get some ctrl+z and ctrl+y (undo/redo) in Android altogether. Especially because I also do notice the cursor jump at times when my track-pad is most definitely off, and I get tired of actually having to remember what the hell was flowing from my head to my fingers a couple of seconds ago
Didn't want to start a new thread or anything, and this is the first one on keyboards I've seen for 4 pages so here it is lol
A screw has promptly left its place in the dock. I haven't noticed the dock itself start to pull apart or anything, I generally still hold it by the screen or right underneath the hinge, but this sucks haha I Don't know how I could tighten it back in myself (don't have any drivers that're going to work that angle) and certainly don't want to go shipping it off.
But just so it's out there, so people know to watch out and not lose the screw. I was having trouble docking, so I looked and there it was

There have been many questions about setting up Google Voice properly since Sprint and Google attempted to merge the Google Voice settings for phone numbers/voicemail. Even if you have already merged your numbers, you can separate them and use them as different lines when calling people. Follow these instructions.
Note: For those that have already merged your number, (By accident or you just want to change it back) you need to complete steps 1 & 2 before proceeding at all.
Uninstall Google Voice from your phone.
Login to Google Voice and go to settings.

Click "Disable Google Voice on your Sprint phone"
Note: Mine says "Enable Google Voice on your Sprint phone." If yours does not say "Disable Google Voice on your Sprint phone" then skip this step and continue on.
Install Google Voice on your phone.
Open Google Voice, but do not tap or touch any buttons. You will see the main screen. If need be, scroll to the bottom if you do not see the "Skip" button immediately.
Sign into Google Voice with your Gmail account.
Give Google Voice Access and tap "Next"
Select the option that best suits you. Then tap "Next" twice.
I choose, "Only use Google Voice for international calls" because I can use my unlimited Mobile to Mobile minutes.
Tap the number beginning in *28 and after the call, press the back button, then tap "Configure" to continue.
Note: Dialing the number does not result in a voice call to anyone. It just dials a system to update.
Select "Google Voice" then press back.
Note: If you get a notice, just select "OK" and then hit the back button to get back to Google Voice setup.
Press "Skip" then "Finish"
Note: Now we are done with the phone.
Go back to settings.
Note: If you get any additional popups here just click OK/Done to dismiss them.
Click on "Activate Google voicemail on this phone."
Note: Mine says "Deactivate Google voicemail on this phone" because I have already activated it.
All Done!

And doesn't everyone need to complete Step 1 anyway, and step 2 to check whether they've merged their number or not?

After the call completes, I automatically return back to the screen where I tapped the *28 number without needing to press anything. There is a "Configure" button on this screen. If I tap the onscreen back button, I go back to the "Set up voicemail" screen, which doesn't seem right.
If I ignore the instruction to press the back button, this seems to work OK.

Did you leave out a step, or does the fact that I got that popup mean something went wrong? Or is it the popup you said to ignore?

Mine says that, too, but I'm not so sure I'm done.
After doing all this, when I call my Sprint number, I get my usual Sprint voicemail box. When I call my Google Voice number, I get my usual Google Voice voicemail box. I can't see that doing all this has actually accomplished anything at all.
Is there any app that syncs with google calendar and automatically shuts off your ringer, or sets your phone to vibrate while you're in the meeting or something along the lines of that?
I used Buzy on my OG Evo and it worked great, but I tried installing it on my evo lte, and for some reason it just force closed every time I tried to run it... I believe that it's not compatible with ICS, or sense 4.0, or both
I tried busy me, but either my settings were a tad wonky or it just doesn't work

Hmm, I'm looking for something more automatic..
I need this in case I forget to silence my phone before work or classes, and the synchronization is nice because since I already use google calendar for everything, no extra steps are necessary on my part (like timing the ringer for each day)
also when adding an impromptu meeting, I just need to add it to my calendar and it silences my ringer when it's time
Automatic? Nothing will beat Tasker IF you set all your appointments in your calendar with a certain title. For example, I put 'Work' in my calendar entries and set up a tasker profile to detect if there's a calendar entry by that name, if there is, it will automagically set my phone to vibrate (and also set one to automatically reply to texts with 'at work, I'll get back to you later' if anyone tried to text me.
If you're interested I will post the profile I have =D
EDIT: I figured I will post the profile for those who want this anyway, you will need Tasker, get it from Google Play here -- or the author allows for a 7 day APK trial from his website here. Installed the app? Good, launch it and follow these instructions:
New > Profile Name > OK > State > Calendar Entry
Under title put what title it will match, for example putting in "Work *" will trigger this profile if you have a calendar entry that starts with Work (Work SDFHOH will also trigger it), use * as a wildcard. Other parameters can also be set if you wish, hit the ? button to see what each does, but the only necessary one is the title. Hit done.
A task selection should automatically pop up. This is what tasker will set your phone to do when it detects the title we set in the previous step. Hit new task, name it if you wish. Hit the + button.
Audio> Silent mode> Chose mode (Vibrate or On (completely silent))> Done
Next step is optional but I like to add a visual queue telling me that the profile activated. Hit the + button again:
Alert> Flash> Enter text you wish to display i.e. "Vibrate mode on".> Done
Hit test if you want to make sure it works, afterward, hit Done. Now tap on the action we just created, it should have a green > arrow saying something like "Silent Mode On/Vibrate/Off" and tap "Add Exit Task" (this will automatically take the phone off of vibrate when meeting/work/school is over.
Hit New Task and name if you want. Hit the + button.
Audio> Silent Mode> Off (or Vibrate, if you always keep your phone on vibrate)> Done
Again the following is if you want to add a visual queue showing that the phone is no longer silenced:
Alert> Flash> Enter text you wish to display i.e. "Vibrate mode off".> Done
Hit done and apply. You're done
Basically what we did is create a Profile that detects if the calendar has a certain title, if so, it will enter the start task and once tasker detects that the calendar no longer has that event active, it will automatically apply the end task.
It should look something like this:
{

This app is very powerful, you can create literally endless tasks (I have one set to go silent upon arrival at my favorite movie theater, go into silent mode if the phone is getting power from the AC between certain times EXCEPT if I receive a call from certain people, turn my media sound down when I plug in my headphones and pull up a menu letting me chose from all my music apps, say the name of the caller) I recommend you experiment around. There's a site that has a bunch of profiles if you want any ideas located here. Enjoy!
Thanks! I'll check it out.
Is there any way for tasker to silence the phone for all meetings in a certain calendar for google? or during all meetings described as busy?
Yes it's possible. Instead of setting a title, leave that blank and under availiable select No go activate when you're busy OR under calendar hit the little search icon and select your calendar.
Sent from my Evo3D Shooter.
Search the market for "smart silencer". I've been using it for almost a year now.
I actually use Tasker for this. This works fine on my Evo 4GLTE (did a backup and restore from my EVO 4G).
However, the application does have a learning curve. Look the application up online as it's paid for.

I highly recommend Shush (free from the market). It's not "automatic", but what it does do, is when you turn your ringer down, a pop-up lets you quickly pick how long the phone should stay silent and lets it turn back on after that time period.
It's super fast to use (less than 3 seconds to mute and set a time) due to a smart and clean interface. A very nice app, in my opinion.
Don't mean to resurrect a somewhat old thread, but I use Silent Time to automate silent mode for my classes. It doesn't do it initially automatically, but you just set up the event once, what time and days you want it to be silent, and it will do it endlessly until you delete the event or uninstall.
I know its not as automatic as you'd like, but I thought I'd suggest it anyway.
Thanks for the suggestion, I'm going to try to use busy me again, and if that doesn't work I'll just use this
Latest Update: Here we go! The Alpha_5.0 version of the App now supports the latest Samsung update. For those who haven't got the Samsung update yet, you will be pleased to know that BixBye will continue to work.
Latest Update: Tasker Plugin is now added - you can now BixBye to any complicated task.
Major Update: BixBye is now the only App to perform actions without launching Bixby itself (invisible to your slow, naked eyes!)

BixBye, lets you remap the Bixby button even after the Samsung patch, I have noticed more such Apps popping up. However, I have got some feedback that this one is a bit snappy. Let me know how is your experience.
As it goes without saying, the App is highly experimental and is in Alpha Stage, things may not work as you expect to. However, your feedback will definitely help me improve the App.
For this initial release there is some limited amount of options available, more will be added if the App works well for you guys.
Download from Google Play Store. (Please don't forget to leave a review at Google Play Store!)
BixBye in action:
UPDATE/NOTE: From the reports I have received so far, what I understand is that, Bixby itself is a bit inconsistent in its behaviour when the physical Bixby button is pressed. Sometimes it takes a single press to launch and at other times a double press or long press.
BixBye relies on Bixby to function. Once Bixby is in memory, you will notice that BixBye functions quite fast.
It's very likely that Samsung will issue more updates to improve the snappiness of Bixby itself, as a side effect BixBye will become even more snappy. So, updates from here on will be win-win for us.
Thank you @bstapley, @yaddam205 and @xPr0metheus for helping me test the App.
Thank you @theherkman, @xPr0metheus and @apoapostolov who have especially helped me do countless tests to optimize BixBye for Lockscreen! A lot of patience and time, much appreciated!

Everything is better than bixby...

I've installed it, remapped the Bixby-button to launch the camera app. and so far noticed two things.
1. When pressed Bixby is launched first, the the camera app starts right after.
2. When in camera app, I press the return key but the camera app keeps opening no matter how often I press return.
I'll keep testing and providing my findings
Just gave it a try. The inconsistency was still there with Bixby in that you'd sometimes have to long press or press it twice for it to pop up. Bixby then popped up for half a second so on the third press the Camera app finally opened and every time past that it worked as intended. Great job Jagan, keep up the good work. I'll keep reporting any inconsistencies (if any).
Edit: Just tried rebooting the phone and it reset back to the state explained above i.e had to press the button a couple of times for the camera to consistently appear.
Edit 2: Appears very inconsistent at times where nothing happens even after 5-6 presses. I wonder why that is.
Edit3: New glitch where it will launch the camera but if i use the back button to attempt and close it or return to a previous app, it will display bixby behind it for half a second and then swap back to the camera - leaving it in the loop unless I go back to the home screen and close all the apps manually.
The one thing thats stops me from using the remaps are that when Bixby is disabled it won't work. So I just have a unused button on the phone. IN other words it would be nice if it would somehow work with Bixby disabled.

Regarding launch of Bixby, it's because of the Samsung's implementation itself. I have heard from many others that, sometimes it requires one press, double press etc, inconsistent. But from many users I heard it works fine, probably depends on the OS update etc.
@zakariae @zone23, @lmanlo. Thank you all for the feedback, please try the latest version, I got reports from Galaxy S8 that it has the back button fixed and also no more Bixby show up. Let me know how it performs on S8+
Just re-downloaded the version from the play store and while it took three or so presses for the Camera to pop up, there is no sign of bixby popping up and backing out of an app seems to be working as intended. Nicely done.
Edit: This was on a s8+
Im on the S8+ btw. I'll try the latest version. Thanks!
S8+, works fine for me. Now button dumps me back at home which is improvement Wonder if we can remap this button to nothing so press does nothing?
Cheers

Use Package Disabler Pro from the GooglePlayStore to disable all the Bixby .apks.................

The one thing thats stops me from using the remaps are that when Bixby is disabled it won't work. So I just have a unused button on the phone. IN other words it would be nice if it would somehow work with Bixby disabled.

Same. When you can use this button while Bixby bloatware is disabled I'll use it

That won't be possible without root I assume.

I'm using an AT&T S8+, build ending in AQD9. And on Alpha 2, BixBye works like a charm.
Like OP says, Bixby itself is surprisingly unreliable in launching when its button is pressed. So I'd definitely point to Sammy as the root cause of inconsistency of launches.
Damn this works like a charm (latest version), much appreciated.
One thing I notice with the app installed, there's a bit of a stutter/"lag" noticable. For example pulling down the notification bar and slowly dragging it back up, it's not as smooth. Same with scrolling through some other apps like Instagram there's a slight tiny lag. Tbh it's barely noticeable, but it's my OCD kicking in probably.
Now that we have root
Is there a more efficient way of grabbing the key press?
My wife loves her dedicate camera button. I just disabled all of it. As I think it's dumb to add the extra button

Awesome! Works on my Verizon S8+ after update to launch Google Now. Launches even with AOD on!

A bug I just noticed fiddling around with it:
When you set it to Notification Drawer, when you click the button once, it works, but then click it a second time when the drawer is open, it brings up Bixby and leaves the Notification Drawer open.
Then I went to try and change it back to Google, it got stuck pulling the Notification Drawer. I had to switch it to Voice Assistant then back to launch app and selecting Google app from there.
Thanks now I have 0 reason to root good job
I experienced the Mate 20 full screen gestures recently, which is really good to use, I think I should always use it. If you still don't know how to use full screen gestures, please see the instructions below for a quick experience.

Back:Swipe in from the left or right side of the screen
Home:Slide up from the bottom of the screen
Recent tasks:Slide up and pause from the bottom of the screen
The actual operation interface is like this:
Small screen mode
The full screen looks really cool, but sometimes it is inconvenient to operate the big screen phone with one hand. At this time, we can turn on the small screen mode to solve this problem. How to use the small screen mode, please see the instructions below.
We only need to slide in from the bottom left or bottom right corner to open the small screen mode, if you want to exit the small screen mode, click anywhere in the offscreen area.

nice!
In my experience for recent apps it works fastest if you swipe up and instead of holding you just swipe back down again a little bit. This opens the recent apps tab almost immediately and multitasking feels much smoother

Just tried this, works really well! Great tip, thanks.
Gestures with 3rd party launchers are iffy. Swiping up on Nova brings up recent apps before going home.
Yes with nova it's annoying. Try the ms launcher... The same issue but recent apps are only visible very short and then switches instant to the home screen... So better than nova

I'm currently using action launcher with the xda gestures. When setting up the gestures, there's an option to hide the navigation bar so it looks clean. The animations aren't as slick as the factory gestures but it works very well with a launcher and is quick.

Great,thanks for your sharing.
Too bad there is no switch between the 2 most recent apps and launching of Google Assistant gestures that's why I'll nvr use gestures. OP6 at least offered a gesture for switching and launching Assistant

Thanks this helped me a lot, I only got the phone yesterday and still trying to get used to the gestures, now we just need one to switch to the last app quickly!

Where to get that version of launcher?
You can use the Fluid Navigation Gestures app (in beta at the moment) with the 3rd party launchers
Is it normal that when you're on the home screen, you can't access the recent apps with gesture ?
If I want to access to that screen from home, I need to open an application first, and then to make the gesture to open the multi-tasking view... It's really annoying !
Very good, thank you for sharing

Is there any way to change what gesture does what ?
I deactivated the Google Assistant one, and I'd love to be able to put the "back" gesture in its place instead of swiping from the sides of the screen, which conflicts with a lot of apps that have side menus that you can bring up with this gesture.
For example with Discord or Gmail, trying to pull the side menu will often send me back to the home screen because it was detected as the "back" gesture. And as the phone is so tall, I dont really want to have to reach all the way at the top left corner just to click on a button when I can just swipe.
I still prefer this navigation mode over buttons, it looks much cleaner imo. But sometimes this "back" gesture just isnt convenient, despite being more intuitive than swipping from the bottom imo.
At least if we could edit the portion of the screen that was registering it, it would be cool.
This annoyed me to no end. Thanks to the app fluid gesture navigation it's all fixed AND for some reason fluid makes the return home transition smooth when using the stock launcher. It was so jittery before .

You still can but it seems to take longer than with an app.
I recommend you do what was advised in first page. It works especialy well when trying to access multitask from the home screen : swipe up from tje bottom of the screen, then once your finger is between half and 3/4 of the way up, slide it back down to 1/2. It should immediately trigger multitask.
