How to customize Hiboard - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Questions & Answers

Can't find any option to customize Hiboard. Like I want to make it look like a Google feed.

Anyone?

Think it is regional locked. In EU you get news. However in other region, you only get alarms and calendars.

If you disable HiBoard with adb (package name is com.huawei.intelligent), you'll get the Google Feed option in the Huawei launcher. So rather than customising HiBoard to look like the Google Feed, why not use the actual Google Feed?

This would take a while if you have never used adb before.
Try this guide on using adb to disable/uninstall packages and this thread on uninstalling packages for the Mate 20 series for starters. The package name for HiBoard is com.huawei.intelligent.
The short version is that Huawei enables/disables a variety of features dynamically for different regions (in some cases based on the SIM card inserted), but keeps the core software the same, so forcibly disabling some features you don't like can enable other ones - e.g. disabling HiVision removes the icon from the camera app, disabling HiBoard enables the Google Feed. I was searching for a way to enable Google Feed integration as I'd discovered the same version of the Huawei launcher had the Feed instead of HiBoard on different devices/regions - turns out the system just checks whether HiBoard is present and offers the Google Feed instead if it's not. A very welcome discovery that folks in the thread linked above noticed when installing Google apps manually on a Chinese variant after disabling various Huawei apps.

UnInstalling HiBoard via ADB. Does it affect any other functions? I don't think reinstalling the HiBoard is available.

I have successfully done this to mate 20 pro and mate 10 pro. So far no negative impact. Just ADB uninstall com.huawei.intelligent and restart phone. Then go to your home screen settings and enable the Google Discover page.

I'll try this later, does that mean there is no way to customize Hiboard itself?

I don't even heard about "HiBoard". Mate 20 Pro, Romania.

[Q] Crappy IE10 Google Mobile Search

So, brand spanking new Lumia 920, gorgeous, easy to use etc.
One problem, is there any way to change the search options in the browser?
I'm talking about when you type a search directly into the browser address bar. There is the option to choose between google and bing but the search results are displayed in the mobile format despite having set the view option to Desktop.
I really can't be bothered to have to go to the google site every time I need to search something. Yes I know Bing is there, and I'm completely sold on every other aspect of it as well as windows, but this is the search engine I have been using for years and I don't want to change any time soon.
Has anybody found some hidden option or setting somewhere that could sort this out?
Go to google.com
Pin To Start.
Now just tap that tile to launch into google search every time. You'll need to set the settings on the google site for mobile or desktop view.

[GUIDE/ADB] OPPO FIND X System Apps Safe To Uninstall/Disable Without Root

THIS TUTORIAL IS GEARED TOWARDS THOSE THAT HAVE THE VERSION OF THE PHONE WITH CHINESE FIRMWARE,MAY BE USED AS A GENERAL GUIDE FOR OTHER VERSIONS.
The subject of app/bloatware removal/disabling has been mentioned in a few threads throughout the Oppo Find X forum,so,I thought I'd start a thread to centralize the topic.
As w/any mods go,this is one that's fairly harmless, worse case scenario,a factory reset will get you back on track, but, ultimately everyone is responsible for their own phone & what happens to it.
With that out of the way..............
1) Any app that can be easily uninstalled by the "uninstall" button is 100% safe,no harm whatsoever. If you want,d/l an apk extractor tool app to make a copy & store wherever, should you change your mind.
2) Now,most are interested in getting rid of as many of the OPPO system apps as possible w/o crippling wanted functionality. This will be an evolving list,& gradually adding to it,with input from anyone interested,I'll update the list right here.
3) OK,the How-To is right here https://www.xda-developers.com/uninstall-carrier-oem-bloatware-without-root-access/
4) Any input regarding adding to the list is encouraged.
If you have something to add to the list that you're tried out yourself, please include any effects on functionality that may have resulted, especially if it affected other apps & their functionality, good, bad,or otherwise.
5) Once again, tried & tested input is highly encouraged & welcome. I'm open to suggestions on trying out app removal that ventures into uncharted territory, however, depending on what it is & how/when I'm using my phone,it might be a few days before I'm free for Guinea Pig duty.....
6) Touching on point #5,if,for whatever reason, one is in no position to go into uncharted waters w/this,that's fine,I just recommend waiting a few days after the apps that you're interested in removing 1st,check the list & dates below. No one wants a borked phone that needs reset at an inoppportune time to get things restored to useability.
I myself won't be able to test every day,I get it,so,if you can't test things for yourself & share here, that is perfectly OK,JUST HANG IN THERE UNTIL THE SAFE LIST IS STABLE FOR A FEW DAYS BEFORE PROCEEDING.
The list will grow & evolve/be edited on a continuous basis until we all get it figured out. :good:
KUDOS to @justinswidebody for stepping up as a community leader & testing the apps that have risks/etc... that may warrant a reset/starting over, your efforts are to be commended by all who reap the rewards of your contributions,I can't thank you enough. :good:
A couple points worth repeating, from the link & instructions :
******** A factory reset will restore all uninstalled apps.
******** OTA's shouldn't be affected or affect the status of apps, whether they're installed or uninstalled (unless,of course, you've deleted something pertaining to updates, which won't be listed below)
FYI: The dates reflect the time of posting/removal,for ease of troubleshooting,in the event something noteworthy gets broken,it gives a good reference where to begin looking for the problem/solution.

Guessing it has something to do with Phone Manager & Security apps, but,I'm not quite comfortable removing either ATM,until I can take a look around @ other Oppo Devices running a recent version of Color OS & get a better idea of the effects of removing either.
In the meantime,just another alternative:
You can side-load apps/.apks via Bluetooth sharing from another device without issue.
Thanks a lot for the Guide! I really wanna get rid of the launcher....
Therefore, beginner question:
If I run the adb devices command (inside the platform-tools folder) it shows no device in the list.
I enabled USB Debugging on the phone.
Is it necessary to manually install the driver for the phone to make adb work?
I found a driver here (mobileheadlines.net/) but I am not sure if this website is trustworthy.
Thanks for your help.
BTW: I think your link to the make adb run is not working properly. At least i get an 403 error message. Is this the how to you wanted to refer to?

THX for the heads-up on the link,it's fixed now. :good:
The drivers should install themselves, but, before you do that, you have to enable Developer Options & once there, you'll need to toggle-on USB Debugging.
This tutorial for Dev Options/USB De-Bugging is for other OPPO devices, but,is applicable here:
https://www.syncios.com/android/how-to-debug-oppo-f1.html
Once you do the above,plug-in to your PC & the drivers will automatically install.
Then pull down on the notification bar,tap on the USB Debugging notification, select Transfer files.
Also, the 1st time you connect/use USB Debugging, you'll see a pop-up window asking for permission, allow it. If you don't see it,disconnect from the PC,re-connect,select File Transfer & keep the phone unlocked, until you see the permission pop-up. I recommend selecting "Always" so,you don't have to bother w/it again.
Check this video out,it covers most of the steps:

I haven't noticed any undesirable effects.
Sent from my OPPO PAFM00 using XDA Labs
just to add correction if you dont mind..the package is com.oppo.oppopowermonitor
I've just removed
com.coloros.healthcheck
com.coloros.appmanager
com.mobiletools.systemhelper
Don't see anything bad happening from what I can tell.
Also removed
com.coloros.securitypermission
However this removed the ability to change any permissions.
One of these that I removed allowed me to use mobile data for Showbox. I wasn't able to watch any Showbox stuff on mobile data before removing these

Yes,I am,using Textra & removed the stock messaging app, still getting the pop-up,but,messaging does work.
I suspect the banner is tied to the Privacy Permissions app (com.coloros.securitypermission) Don't remove this, breaks permission management.
@justinswidebody
If you haven't performed a factory reset, can you test a 3rd party SMS/MMS app & see if the OPPO ID Prompt still pops-up?
THX again. :good:
EDIT: @yakuzlin
The Privacy Permissions app (com.coloros.securitypermission) is not tied to the banner pop-up,see the following post.......
I installed Textra, but I still have the default messaging app so I can't set it as default. But when I send a text it sent fine , when I receive a text it puts up a hint pop up message that the default messaging app is used for security reasons.

Kyocera KY-01L Android-based e-paper smartphone

This device caught my eye recently (Kyocera KY-01L):
https://uncrate.com/kyocera-ky-01l-card-phone/
Points of interest:
* Android-based
* e-paper display
* ultra compact
Personally I feel Kyocera made a huge mistake by not including the Play Store, or at least including an e-Reader application. A pocket-sized e-Reader that is also my phone just sounds awesome in theory (although the 380mAh battery might prove otherwise in reality...)
Since I use Hangouts and Hangouts Dialer for all my communications, I can't really use this unless I can get gApps installed.
Does anyone have experience hacking Kyocera phones? How difficult would it be to get root, TWRP, and gApps working on this thing?
I googled that phone and found your post. Most intriguing idea, but overpriced imho. I would like to test my developer skills on that but without adb or at least apk installer its useless
Android is not fully compatible (out-of-the-box) with e-ink and screen sizes under 3", unless it's heavily modified. Which is not worth the investmet, considering the target market. And even if Android were adapted, many apps wouldn't run anyway. They wrapped a layer around it to run essentials services. Note that there is a real browser though.
KY-01L Information
So i bought one of these myself out of curiosity and here's what i've found:
ADB can be enabled from the phones settings (the option is called "switch usb debugging") once it's enabled you can sideload APK's
APK's cannot be installed on the phone itself, when doing so you get the message than unknown sources are not enabled however as kyocera have modified the security settings there is no way to enable this afaik
The apps use AOSP icons and have some normal screens present which can be accessed with an activity launcher
When using installed apps the E-ink screen switches to a high refresh rate mode at random and the only way to get it back to normal is to launch cardphonehome (the default launcher)
The phone won't connect to any UK networks (i've only tried vodaphone and EE sims in it)
Bluetooth media audio seems to be removed entirely, even when sideloading a music player
The stock keyboard uses a 9 key input for text, you can sideload something like gboard but i haven't found the option to set it as the default input method
If you intend to buy one then i would suggest looking on YAJ proxy sites like buyee as they tend to go for ~£160.
Apps i'd recommend sideloading:
Activity launcher - lets you get into hidden menus and back into the stock launcher
Stealth music player - Plays music through the phones earpiece, can also enable the earpiece for use with audio from other apps
i'd also suggest lowering the DPI as some apps may be cramped
Dialer codes
*#*#4636#*#* - Android Testing menu
*#*#3878#*#* - Qualcomm FTM menu
*#*#225#*#* - Calendar info
Update: i've noticed the soc that CPUZ is reporting conflicts what others have said, ADB's CPU info command reports it as a wear 2100
I'm really curious if/how an ebook reading app would work on this. Did you try that out?
I'm considering buying a used one to try out as an ultra portable ebook reader.

Hi
First of all, I appreciate the above information where I could find customizing about KY-01L. I was able to install Gmail, Chrome, Line lite, Gboard, and other utilities into my KY-01L!
To be honest, it was quite a stressful process to load apk`s and configure them a number of times.
The first step, I installed the Square Home launcher (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.squarehome2&hl=en&gl=us) and the Quickshortcut maker (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sika524.android.quickshortcut&hl=en&gl=us) that I am able to configure 10 times easier (Maybe some similar types of the app should work). the default setting of KY-01L is not able to configure app by the screen that is how it is designed by Kyocera.
After setting those 2 apps, I can configure launcher/shortcut in the home menu.
My KY-01L is not stable yet... still need to minor adjustments of configuration but it works what I was expected.

Hi
I am using NTT Docomo carrier (in Japan) which is the preferred carrier for the KY-01L. KY-01L has limited bandwidth using LTE bands of 2.0GHz and 800MHz only. You would better check with your SIM carrier that uses those bandwidths or not.

Well, it seems that my carrier doesn't offer the exact same frequencies. 3G is at 2100 MHz (B1) and LTE is at 2100 MHz (B1) and 1800 MHz (B3).
Too limited, indeed. I've been using Docomo and SoftBank and AU phones for over fifteen years now and they all worked but not this one

Hi I just ordered my KY-01L off ebay, and looking forward to doing what you're doing!
My question is - after you installed all these things (Square Home Launcher, Quick shortcut maker, Gmail, Chrome, Line lite, Gboard and other utilities), does the battery drain faster even when idle? If so, how much faster vs the vanilla version.
And what other utilities were you able to install on the KY-01L? Music player? Kindle? Youtube? Just curious to see what works...
Lastly, was the Square Home Launcher the only launcher that works? Or there were others that work but this is your preference.
Thanks!

Soul Browser - A litte gem you've probably never heard of

I posted this on the Kiwi Browser thread more in mourning at the lack of support and updates Kiwi has received in the last year or so.
So I stumbled on Soul Browser and it's been excellent so far. Extremely fast and lite. Unfortunately it doesn't have extensions but it's got virtually every function and customization you can think of. Digging into it's background it seems to be from a developer out of the UK so should be safe. It's on the Play Store but not open source unfortunately.
Everything is good and all but i couldn't find the toggle to turn video overlays on fullscreen. i watch something on youtube in portrait mode, when i make it fullscreen, video pauses, sometimes starts from the beginning and i don't like that overlay with full of buttons. How do i turn that of and have smooth transition?

Everything is good and all but i couldn't find the toggle to turn video overlays on fullscreen. i watch something on youtube in portrait mode, when i make it fullscreen, video pauses, sometimes starts from the beginning and i don't like that overlay with full of buttons. How do i turn that of and have smooth transition?

I have no idea. Comment on the Playstore and the developer usually responds quite quickly. There's so much customization I haven't even touched yet.

Read the last 5 or so pages of the Kiwi thread on here and most of your concerns are answered. I, and several others, had the same worries but it seems Adguard DNS takes care of most issues. Trackers etc are all Google stuff anyway according to ClassyShark.

Thanks, yes I've just come from there! I use nextdns so nothing gets through to Google any way. It looks more a Samsung Internet base than Kiwi/plain Chrome. I just wish there was more info. And I'm so tired of being unable to migrate bookmarks, logins, cookies, etc between browsers!

I understand it's Chromium based but so is Samsung so all the same.
I'm having issues using it with NextDNS. It works but I get constant SSL errors on Soul which I don't get on Samsung or Kiwi, so there's something NextDNS doesn't like in there but I can't find it in the NextDNS logs. However it works fine with Adguard DNS and all trackers etc are blocked. I added Energized Ultimate to the adblock host list in Soul as an extra measure.
I imported my chrome bookmarks with ease using the html file. So no issues there.
A very good browser and can be greatly configured
(bars on top or bottom in custom size, long press settings, swipe settings, back/forward gestures, double finger gestures, no reload when back/forth, skip to page beginning, floating scrollbar, own blocklists, full auto dark mode, video downloader and much much more). I've never seen a better mobile browser, it's crazy.
But my problem with it is that it doesn't launch native apps from links:
Youtube is launched only if you google for youtube, but not from embedded videos; reddit is launched only if you use native reddit app and not third party one; ebay app doesn't launch and so on. Dealbreaker for me - I feel like on iOS.
Another thing is adblocker isn't consistent. If you jump through tabs and apps and then go back to prev opened website, sometimes there is suddenly an ad running, which was blocked before.
So overall it feels kinda buggy and you can say it's made by one person and on top of that - by a completly unknown entity (no mail, website) originate in Asia.
So I'm back on Samsung Browser beta which is still missing few nice to have things, but is fully baked.

I use Vanced and it launches directly. Check settings and enable the toggle to allow YouTube launch. I don't know about the ebay app but complaining about a 3rd party reddit app isn't the browsers fault.
I've switched off the built-in adblocker and use 1Hosts Pro and Energized Ultimate in the user field and never had that problem even with the built-in one active. Maybe because I also use a private dns adblocker on my devices.
I think the developer is from Korea as there are references to Korean legalities if you dig a little. I use this browser for daily casual surfing and it's fantastic but my main browser is also Samsung for secure and private stuff. Best of both worlds.
Well I use YouTube app and not vanced and it's not working. Toggle is set correctly and as I said some apps are starting, example "eBay Kleinanzeigen".
Ofcourse it's browsers fault if 3rd party reddit client is not starting IF it's registered in system as default reddit client.
Well written browsers always open apps properly: Samsung Browser, Firefox, Yandex and so on, because they respect those flags.
I don't want to need use vpn for adblocking.

I stopped using Energized Ultimate as it was overkill and heavy. I'm using 1Hosts Pro, OISD and Easylist now.

I think it was for donations but doesn't seem to work anyway.
Thanks for letting other people know about this browser.
I am not a advanced user. I only want a browser with adblocker and simple interface. I don't know about hosts, dns, etc.,
I have used Via, OH, Berry, Fulguris, Stargon, Onbibi browsers. Soul mixes all these into one.
Thanks
One thing missing is reader mode. Some old websites won't "work" mobile without it, example:
Infinite-baffle
Honestly! I'm just loving it! Perfect title and Perfect Browser name! Soul Browser

I totally agree about how nice this browser is but I'm also VERY MUCH concerned about the risk of privacy violation. Anyone has additional info about this ?
To the author if he's reading us: why don't you show up and talk about this important aspect of your (fantastic) app ?
Cool browser. But there's no option to import passwords
This was my daily browser for a while but now things are getting out of control. So much customisations as I like but not working flawlessly. Sad that no developer communication exist and bugs are not getting fixed.
Really like this browser but I have one really annoying issue : when watching a video in full screen landscape mode and would like to adjust something and tap the screen, the navigation bar do not disappear automatically...
Anybody faced this issue?

General How to disable Google feed on home screen.

There are colleagues who have asked me how to deactivate the Google feed window that we have on the left of the home screen, for those who want to deactivate it, they must follow the following steps.
We get into the application drawer, we go to the Google application. Click on the application and a window opens, click on application information and click on disable the application.
Now we will no longer have the Google feed window on the left of the home screen.
Any downsides on this? Just noticed Google assistant doesn't work anymore

As you say, the google assistant will not work for you.
Podcasts and Lens won't work either.
Thank you. This is the only reasonable answer, and it appears to be easy in fact. Unfortunately, the regular method is hidden/eliminated by the developers, i.e. there is no item to control it in the Home Screen settings. I have seen so many opinions, from "impossible" to sophisticated ways using Android Debug Bridge.
Good tip, works like a charm. I'm not a fan of Assistant or most other bloatware either, so good riddance. I just wish these products gave more control to the user, or even retained the same options to enable/disable things as the older versions.
