Pie update - USB audio streaming not working - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

After updating to Pie, USB audio streaming is not working anymore. I am using an Grom audio, which seems to connect to the phone, but all the sound is routed only to the phone speakers. Until Pie everything was working OK.
Do you know if Samsung disabled this function? I contacted them and they told me that they didn't. They suggested to reset my phone, which I did, but no effect.
Is there any way to check this? I am on official CSA2 build, not rooted.

PIE UPDATE, no audio car radio!
Got the same issues on moto G6 (not rooted, 2 months old phone). After f*cking PIE it connects to my USB android car radio (pioneer), but plays music trough phone speakers. If anyone got a fix i'll gladly hear it because google/android ain't giving it.

There is no fix. Google removed completely the support for AOAv2 USB audio in android Pie, and screwed everyone without even noticing us prior to accept the update.
I already made an official complain to my country authorities and I suggest that everyone need to do this if he wasn't informed in the update changelog about functionality removal.
My complained was addressed to consumer rights department and I'm still waiting their answer(legit time).

Yeah tought so. Don't really know if a complaint like that is gonna help but still gonna file it.
For now i'm going to downgrade back to android 8 and see if that fixes the issue (and many, maaany more issues)

Still not working!
Galaxy A8 2018 here, updated to Pie OneUI, all I get is static through the USB audio. The usb audio device works fine from my computer, but all my phone plays through it is white noise whenever a sound is played. This is only since the Pie update, it worked fine before!

Issues with bluetooth via car/hands free

It's paired but it seems like the connection drops in and out, it won't let me make a call.
Hero was working perfectly....ideas?
mine works perfectly in my car, on my head set and my stereo headset
yes, that is a software issue mostly, should be fixed with the next firmware update..
try to play with the settings also.
I haven't done the ota update yet in fear it could prevent rooting. Hmmm, need this to work

i updated mine, maybe that's the fix you're looking for
Can anyone else verify that it didn't work before the update? I might just go a few days without hands free in the car and monitor the s-off thread in development.
Gonna go play with it some more too...will report

I can almost guarantee whoever is rooting this thing shifted their focus to the latest update.
Whatever version is settled upon w/o another OTA will be our rooted firmware. You're ok to update.
Sprint probably had the updates rollout like to throw the developers off anyway.
What kind of car? I have an Infiniti G37, and my Hero would not work after the 2.1 update. I'm hoping the E3D works fine.
hope this works ok in my new truck..ill be mad since my old phone im replacing restarts everytime i connect via bt
Chevy Cruze, the bluetooth wasn't working again this morning on my way to work. I haven't accepted the OTA updates yet. Also this is not a user error, its a connection issues with the phone itself. The phone is paired but will not keep a connection with the car.
Still debating OTA updates...
Edit: My hero worked in the Cruze with Aosp 2.2 and 2.3.4 - I didn't have the car before then.
@op, do you have WiFi on?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
No, WiFi was off.
I tried with WiFi on...no difference. Anyone else driving a cruze that can confirm this happened before but not after the OTA?
Thanks

Do your contacts sync over to your car?
I bought an Evo 3D and now my contacts won't sync over bluetooth to my car! This sucks, I need this essential feature to work or I'll have to return this phone. Dialing from my car is much easier than dialing from the phone. My contacts synced just fine over bluetooth to my car with my old Evo.
The Evo 3D will connect to my car over bluetooth and can act work in "phone audio" mode, but how come the contacts won't sync like before?
Does anyone know if this is an issue caused by the new OTA? Unfortunately, I updated my phone so I could watch Green Hornet.
First of all, could you guys please list as below to clarify the issue. Thanks
1.What is the Rom version or Model of the phone you have use?
2.Car model Brand/ Year / model
3.Which car kit model? Original from the Car or install from car shop?

AT&T HOX+ 1.19.502.1 Update... What's been your experience?

Alright, so I recently decided to upgrade my AT&T HTC ONE X+'s firmware to the latest 1.19.502.1 update. Ever since I got this phone, I've never really been 100% happy with it, so as soon as I saw an official update being rolled out I jumped at the chance! I re-flashed the original recovery, re-locked the bootloader and ran the HTC RUU pc executable, effectively putting my phone in a 100% stock state and fully updated.
So far I can say that the phone experiences less general app crashes than before. The Bluetooth Call audio quality issue is 100% fixed. It would also seem like the Google contacts syncing issue is gone too. AT&T Address Book app now works (I don't like it, I don't actively use it, but at least now it's a functioning app). And Power management & Battery life seemed to have improved ever so slightly.
On the other hand, the phone does seem a bit slower (apps take longer to load, some phone functions take a little bit longer to react, stuff like that). The distorted streaming via Bluetooth (A2DP) bug (not the same issue as the call audio) is still un-addressed. I've always experienced random Bluetooth connection interruptions, and with the update this hasn't changed. Another thing I was hopeful they would fix with the update and they didn't is the Automatic Time Zone option in the Date & Time settings menu (It will often not recognize my time zone - GMT -4:00 - forcing me to set it manually... no big deal, but still a bug none the less). There were no GUI/UI changes or improvements whatsoever. Also, I like to use Nova Launcher Prime, and for whatever reason I've found myself pressing the "back" button to exit some apps and it would return me to the Sense home instead of the Nova Launcher home (which is set as my default launcher). That last one is no big deal, but thought I should mention it just in case.
What about you guys? What has been your experience with it? Did you update OTA or through the RUU? Share your experiences here!
the only thing i needed from the update was fixing BT A2DP audio. Like you said, it is still broken. Highly disappointed. Hopefully a ROM will fix it soon.
The update broke a bunch of apps for me. Chrome, Google Search, and Google Drive no longer work, they crash on startup.
Other people have similar complaints, here: forums.att.com/t5/Android-Discussion-and-Support/HTC-One-X-update/td-p/3469653
This is a stock phone. So far the phone is pretty unusable without those apps.
Really annoying. AT&T hasn't said anything about it yet. Maybe I should contact HTC directly?

You can try to contact HTC directly, but from what I've read around in the forums, they aren't much help. Allow me to suggest you try running the RUU on your phone (you can download it from http://www.htc.com/us/support/news.aspx?p_id=529&p_name=htc-one-x-plus-att ). It'll fully wipe it, so make a backup of all your important stuff (contacts if they aren't cloud synced, pictures, Angry Birds scores, etc) and then run the RUU. After the initial setup, re-download/install all your main apps and see how that goes. If you do get to do this, please post here if there was a difference in your phone's behavior. (Hope that helps)
I really honestly haven't had any issues with my phone since the OTA update... I still lag on playing a simple 2D game Drag Racing" but runs butter smooth when playing 3D games.. WTH?.. Really annoying to me... but then again, it lags even when I'm using my Nexus 7, yet runs lag-free and smooth on my Pantech Burst? Explain that one.. lol..
But all in all I've noticed a lot of small enhancements with the update. Now if they can just fix the game play of Drag Racing app.. lol..
I haven't noticed anything significant either way. If I didn't do the update myself, I don't think I would know there had been one. I do have to say that I never experienced problems playing music over BT, and I use it in my car, at home, and with BT earbuds. Maybe it's because I'm using PowerAmp.

The problem is still there with poweramp. It is a bitpool setting for connection between the phone and BT speaker devices. Some people just don't hear it even though it is there. I have a few friends who are now on JB thanks to recent updates and they have the same issues but they don't seem to hear it. I can hear it plainly though. One of them I could get to hear it but he doesn't care and thinks it sounds good enough for him.

Well, I haven't tried that particular game, but try this and let me know if it works for you. Go to Settings\Developer Options\Advanced\Force GPU Rendering, and turn it on.
Disappointing feedback. I work from home and have a Plantronics Savi 700 series headset. My HOX+ is connected to the Savi via Bluetooth, and if I make/receive a call on my HOX+ the call skips/distorts for the first 5 seconds or so before stabilising. Is that a known issue?
EDIT: to clarify, I am not using the headset when making/receiving the call in my example.. it's merely just connected via Bluetooth at the time I use my cell phone.

That hasn't been my experience receiving calls (although making them, the first ring does sound louder and coarser than the rest) but there have been some posts here on the forum from people describing a similar issue (since way before the update). Apparently it's either an inconsistent issue, a bug that only affected a few handsets, or an accessory hardware specific issue (eg. compatibility issue with specific bluetooth devices).

When u say BT audio A2DP that to ke means audio controls over BT. Well this has always worked from the start for me on stock and now custom roms. Now if I use a "wired" headset then no, audio controls do not work. All I can do is deal with phone calls and play/pause music. Cannot turn volume up or down or change tracks while using a wired headset. This from my understanding is a "hardware" issue. Now as far as actual BT is concerned, every aspect has worked perfect for me since Steve007 has fixed it for us. Also it has been claimed the new ATT update fixes this BT audio quality issue to an even higher degree than what Steve did so ultimate BT fix now on new ATT update.
So what is the BT audio problem now still not working?

What you're referring to are Media and Call control over bluetooth (First part of your statement) and Bluetooth Call Audio specifically (second part of your statement. This is what Steve007's fix addresses and the new update fixes). The bug badtlc and I mentioned is specifically when streaming Music or Video Audio through bluetooth (basically any type or audio that isn't phone call related). The audio streams just fine, but with a nasty distortion in the high frequencies. Many people just don't seem to mind the distorted sound because they just don't seem to identify it. If you compare the Bluetooth audio quality vs the direct audio quality (like with an Aux cable) you will hear a noticeable difference.
bluetooth volume level issue after upgrade
I've been having the issue of too low volume on bluetooth calls in my car since the upgrade to 1.19.502.1 I used the RUU from HTC site to do the upgrade and reinstalled everything. I have to literally turn up the bluetooth volume all the way up in my car and the people on the other end complain that I'm not loud enough. Did anyone else notice anything like this?
The first time I did the OTA on a stock, locked, not rooted HOX+ I noticed some improvments, I'm not really sure might have been placebo effect, but it did break my Wi-Fi. It would stay stuck on "Turning on Wi-Fi" the slider would be slid to the on side, but say off and be grey and unaccessable. Well I had to get it replaced under warranty, the headset speaker was dead too but that happened before the update, and it came with 1.15 and I want to know how common of a problem my experience was I know of at least a couple people who have had the same thing and I'm not sure I want to try the update again on this one and have to go through replacing it again.

The official updates from HTC never wipe anything from the device. They just UpDate the OS. There might brake an app and very rarely, but that's just when changing the SW version, due to app incompatibility with the new OS vers. That's just my experience with HTC over the last few years and the last few devices.
Best of luck.

Nougat Bluetooth Quality Issues

Hi
Since updating to Nougat the quality of the bluetooth audio is terrible, it seems to fluctuate between all the time and can get very crackly and hissy.
Is anyone else experiencing anything like this - I updated using LG Bridge.
Thanks

Don't what could be the problem, using the stock app with a Bluetooth Speaker in my case works the same as with marshmallow
I've emailed LG and got the attached reply - he mentions that there are problems with Android 7, but I think this might be a generic answer to blame android instead of themselves.

Hi,
I also have problems with my Bluetooth (headset Bluejay X2) after the Nougat upgrade. Media works 2-5 minutes, then audio just stops... the device looks connected and the media player continues to play (silently then). I have done all trouble shooting tips I've found and eventually I also did a factory reset, still same problem. I also have an android wear connected (Sony Smartwatch 3)... actually, I will test to disconnect the phone and see if the audio works better then.
Thanks for contacting LG. I will try to do the same; I sincerely hope they will send out a fix soon, as there to my knowledge is no way to (easily) roll back to Marshmallow.

A short update; problem persists. I have tried to clear system cache and now also forced the bluetooth apps to stop. Here I come to a question...
When wanting to clear Bluetooth app, I discover that I have two different apps called "Bluetooth", only difference is that one has version 5.30.18 and one has version 7.0. Should it be like this? If not, is it possible to disable one of them?

Ok, thanks... bummer, thought it might had to do something with the problem. It might have to do with the model of headphones (still a Nougat problem though), but I don't know; don't seem to have the same problem in the car, but I do not use BT audio very much there.
One thing I have noticed on my Jaybird X2's is: when this happens and I trigger "Ok Google" (long pressing the talk button), the audio starts working again (after I cancel the "Ok Google"). So... still confused, but on a higher level

Speakers

I realised that one of the speakers (right from the usb c port) has some distortion. I was hearing some shhh noise during playbacks, not too strong to make it very obvious. If i listen directly each of the speakers, the spesific one has clearly this additional shhh sound. It can be heard even clearer when you reduce the media volume to minimum during playback, the only speaker producing some sound is that one (only noise shhhh). Any suggestions how that be fixed ( if that is a software issue), otherwise probably my only solution will be to take it for service.
Thanks in advance

First, I would see if noise is present in headphones. Then I would do a factory reset (ugh, I know) to see if that fixes it. Given that it's only 1 of the 4 speakers, I'm willing to bet it's hardware, not software, but I would do the above to rule it out. Good luck.

Sorry for upping this very old thread, but the same is happening to me after latest stock system upgrade via OTA. I wrote a comprehensive post on Samsung Community where I also summarized:
Code:
1. Static is played at everyboot up and whenever a sound is played
2. It only affects speakers
3. Issue is repeatable and present in safe mode
4. Deactivating OK Google reduces the static but it is still there
5. Every app is up to date
6. The only thing I can think that could have introduced the issue was the latest system update
7. Tablet is new and never had been through any kind of damage
They told me that my device needs a replacement because they think it is a hardware failure, but I read many posts here and there blaming ACR and Skype where users solved the problem by uninstalling them (deactivating Skype on my Tab was not enough but I can't get rid of it without rooting) and you here saying it was solved by flashing another firmware.
So did you really solve the issue by flashing another firmware? What was the difference between the one you flashed and your stock one? (And just for my curiosity, did it include Skype or any other mic enabled apps?).
Thanks!
EDIT: Also see this thread by a user on Reddit. He also blames the lower right speaker. Are there any audio developers here who can tell us what's going on?
Mine is the LTE version. Is this happening on WiFi too?
This is NOT a hardware issue. This was introduced in the latest update. I flashed back to the F3 build and the problem is no longer present. Flashing back to the latest build reintroduces the problem..

This is a very important statement that also confirms what I reported to Samsung in the thread posted above. I had mine replaced cause I wasn't sure enough to void my warranty and flash a previous firmware, but now that I had it replaced (it's still boxed) I will make sure not to update.
Is there any way we can file a bug report to Samsung? The Assistance forum doesn't seem to be the proper way.
Unfortunately, it will probably come with the latest update already. You'll have to flash back

Guess what? It did. It came with QI2.
And! The same speaker is producing static.
It's definitely slighter then the one on the device I replaced, but IT IS THERE.
I copied your post to samsung Assistance forums and linked this thread. Hopefully someone will address this issue properly.
So, I caved in against my better judgement and bought a nicely priced, brand new Tab S3 from Amazon Germany (Wifi-only, SM-T820). It indeed has an annoying hissing sound when playing any audio even when volume is actually zero. It seems to come from all four speakers, but it's way more noticeable from the bottom ones.
It came on the QI2 firmware, but already tried downgrading to DBT QF3 and wiping cache/factory reset, with no positive results.
Anyone has anymore insights or updates on this?
Went to a Samsung store and they had two S3 to demo. One of them was on QI2, the other on an earlier firmware. None had this speaker problem. So, I ordered an exchange from Amazon and it's arrived today. It's on QI2 OOTB and it doesn't have this issue either, fortunately.
Sadly I have the same problem on my Tab S3 (on the bottom right speaker).
I've already sent the tablet to be fixed by warranty and it's returned with the bottom right speaker and the whole screen replaced!
Clearly the problem is still there as the hiss is generated by the amplifier and not by the speaker itself!
A solution for this problem

I realised that one of the speakers (right from the usb c port) has some distortion. I was hearing some shhh noise during playbacks, not too strong to make it very obvious. If i listen directly each of the speakers, the spesific one has clearly this additional shhh sound. It can be heard even clearer when you reduce the media volume to minimum during playback, the only speaker producing some sound is that one (only noise shhhh). Any suggestions how that be fixed ( if that is a software issue), otherwise probably my only solution will be to take it for service.
Thanks in advance

I had the same problem with the right bottom speaker.
After a factory reset the problem remained.
But at last by wiping the cash partition and factory reset at the same time the problem solved.
Now I have android 8 on my tablet without any distortion in that speaker.

Hd1913 vs hd1910?

Hey there.
As part of an insurance claim I managed to get ahold of a HD1910 (power plug is american.)
After setting up the device, it seems to contain considerably more bugs than my old HD1913 (European, Danish).
I am experiencing issues from lack of stability of the bluetooth connection to my OnePlus Buds, through Spotify cutting out for a moment when starting some games, to Android Auto selector button disappearing. All on the new phone. The old one, which I still have, works fine in regards to all of the above.
Can anyone tell me if I should expect a different experience between the two phones? And what I can do to investigate further?
HD1910 runs OOS 10.0.10.HD01AA
HD1913 runs OOS 10.0.9.HD01BA
Thanks in advance!

Did you update and do a factory reset after?
HD1910 LATEST OOS is actually 10.0.11.HD01AA via Oxygen updater.
First thing I did was update. I received the phone on Friday.
Today I did factory reset in an attempt to fix the issues, but at least the Bluetooth one still is there.
Havent checked android auto, as I figured it wouldn't make much difference.
Ok, so I updated both phones to 10.0.11 using oxygen updater..
Turns out the Spotify interruption is the HD audio: aac setting on Bluetooth headset.
I'll give the new phone another android auto chance tomorrow
