Hi everyone,
I just bought my first "note" device. It's a second-hand device.
After cleaning the screen with a microfiber cloth, the s pen passes through the screen very smoothly. However, after a few finger touches when I come back to the s pen, I can feel the difference in the regions of the screen where I touched.
I'm just wondering if this is normal. A few days ago I cleaned the screen with my glasses cleaning solution that contains isopropyl alcohol. I guess in low concentration, but still... May I have damaged something?
Either way, I can live with this.
Thanks.

hello to all,
I had a small incident during some home repair work where I didn't realize that I had adhesive on the fingers when I answered the tel. After that I found traces of adhesive on the screen as one can see on the photo. I did not remember if I had placed a screen protector on my toshiba at the beginning or not. Then To check it I tried to remove it with the nail to take off an edge, and an end is actually detached, except that it does not look like a screen protector, but a kind of plastic layer semi-rigid which has the thickness of a protective film! It looks like a protective hard coat which comes with the phone but is not supposed to be removed.
I am afraid now to pull it off and damage my screen even more. Then I would like to know if somebody already experienced this problem and could remove this protective layer.
If so please share your experience. I may not be the only one with this issue.
Thanks a lot and sorry for my poor English.
That looks indeed like part of the case that protects the touch screen. I will try ebay and look for a replacement case.
its avible on ebay for 17 euros only
i think that surface is not a protective layer.. i think it's part of the touchscreen.
I removed mine today. Touch screen still works
The coating makes the screen less prone to scratches, and makes slight scratches less apparent. After removing the coating, I noticed the lots of tiny scratches I made on the screen, but they're gone after I stick a new screen protector on it.
I'm glad I removed it because there's a scratch on mine.

Can you report exactly how did you make it? Are you sure that it was not a previous protective screen? I've just bought a second TG01 with a scratched screen but I don't dare to do what you did

It is not a previous protective screen. It is factory applied, there's a lot of glue residue on the screen after I remove it. Took me a lot of time to remove the glue by "pushing" the glue to a side with my fingers, then cleaning it off with WD40.
I bought my second hand TG01 in June and have been using it every day ever since. A few days ago, presumably due to cold weather, I noticed this hard coat is starting to wear off, there's a mark on the screen like a badly applied screen protector, so I started to remove it.
The glue that stuck the hard coat onto the screen was very strong, so be patient and take extra care when removing the coat. Do it slowly so only the hard coat is removed but not the soft touch screen layer below it.
DO stick a new screen protector on the screen after removing the hard coat as the unprotected screen is more prone to scratches without the hard coat.
After two days of use, do NOT remove the hard coat. I think I damaged the touch screen in the progress, it's now very hard to tap on the intended position correctly.
Now going to buy a new touch screen

Thank you for your WARNING.
I wonder if you could film the process of changing the touch! If you have success (as expected) this video would be very useful for other people interested (as me)
Crossed fingers!
It's not a video and it might take google translator to understand it, but, thanx to a guy called chdeul, there are very interesting explanations and pictures on the french forum:

This is VERY interesting and well done description in the link you provided! I almost opened my phone but due to lack of appropriate courage and tools and understanding, I stopped for now, but will soon re-try!
Hi,
my XPS gets dirty already. You really see it on the surface of the phone. Whats the best method to clean it or how do you guys clean your white SXS? Rubbing with my finger is not enough.
greets
PhilAd
I use a microfibre cloth. I dampen it slightly if I cannot get any excess dirt off.
Microfiber cloth should do the job... Also you can use min cream if the dirt is too stubborn ...
what exactly is min cream?
dampen and microfiber does not help :-/
Try using an eraser to rub off the stain..
Personal experience - only use eraser if the stain is real bad, cos the top coating may be rubbed away. It happened to me.
If eraser alone doesnt work as well, apply a thin layer of toothpaste (which contain small amount of breach) on top of the cover, wait till it dry and then rubbed away the toothpaste with an eraser. Again use this method only if the stain is persistant and cant easily be removed.
*decides to get black*
ok i'll try an eraser carefully and see what happens.
EDIT: Rubber does also not work. I will address that to sony. anyway they are exchanging devices in germany that have problems with yellow spots on the display when the device is getting around 40°C.
Hi.
I'm wondering if that Tablet S has any sort of coating i.e. to repel finger prints or anything like that?
The Tablet S is pretty bad for collecting finger prints as everyone here knows, so I bought some cheap screen wipes for a £1 and I've been using them with some success for the last couple of weeks.
Now I went to wipe the screen before and a couple of marks wouldn't wipe off. It looked like something had worn off the screen and I panicked thinking the alcohol in the wipes was taking away some coating (which I didn't think the tablet had anyway due to the finger print issue).
Anyway I got a lint free cloth and breathed up the screen and cleaned away and they have gone (phew).
Maybe I should ditch the wipes if there is coating on the screen?
It has some kind of Screen Protector. Look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501144
Cool cheers!
I can confirm that mine looks like it has a screen protector (UK version).

Is it safe to clean the screen with alcohol and cotton (or a cloth)?
Hello everyone.
I was cleaning my Galaxy S3 this morning and figured out a stain on the screen.
At first I thought it was some grease, so I used a cloth with soap to take it out Surprisingly the stain persisted!
Looking more carefully at it, I found out the stain fits exactly the spot I must touch with my left thumb.
Actualy it's not a stain. Somewhat the screen wore! Like the most used keys of an old keyboard.
The stain is only visible when the phone is covered with water. The faded portion of the screen takes more time to dry the water.
Is anybody experiencing this too?
I never imagined a flagship device like this could use so bad materials on it. It's only 8 months old and I'm not a hard user.
Most of my friends have Apple devices and they look like new even after years of usage.
Maybe I got a defectful screen glass?
Never experienced anything like this. Maybe you have diamond coated fingers. Maybe the oleophobic coating wore off?! If it has a coating.

It isn't bad materials as you say, what industry are in in or have you had something acidic on your fingers?. Have you had a screen protector on that has left residue??
Is covering your screen with water a good thing to do??

I don't work in a factory; I work in the office. I can't recall using or droping something acidic on the phone. Even because I'm not in contact with such things. I never used a screen protector or a case.
I mean the water left by the humid cloth. Nothing special.
I know its an old post but i suggest you to buy a screen protector to extend the life of the screen
Some people's sweat can be quite detrimental, use screen protector or don't moan
so, i have the unicorn beetle case for my S9 (and my fiancee's S9 as well) and this oil slick thing happened between the plastic of the screen protector and the phone screen. Ive cleaned the inside with windex, professional strength spray foaming g;ass cleaner, 98% isopropyl rubbing alcohol, dawn dish soap and warm water, dawn and cold water etc etc etc, ive even used a hair dryer to get it fairly warm and to allow the air to help move any water molecules from any pits in the plastic. In short, ive done a ton to this [email protected] thing and it persists. My fiancees case is fine and the older kiddos case for the A8 he inherited from me is the same brand and a year older than my case and has zero problems. I work in an office and dont get the phone near grease ever, so im baffled about where the oily stuff is coming from.
Looks like to me that it is moisture, maybe heat from the phone, humidity etc.
That is definitely moisture under the screen protector. If you already cleaned it and it came back, you will need to get new screen protector because this one has opening for water to enter and that can't be fixed

thanks guys. this was my first plastic film style case with built in screen protector thingy. Wasnt a fan at first, got used to it and then this happened. Ive since order ed a new case, which obviously fixed the issue. The case is fairly cheap, its just a shame the plastic part only lasted that long. Thanks for the replies guys, the accessories area of a phones forum is usually a wasteland lol
I have been using one for the past 6 months on my Galaxy S9 and I've had no such issues. The only times this would happen was when I would wipe the screen with alcohol and a portion would get into the sides at the top.
The only reason that would happen is you got the phone wet at some point and the water found its way through the cut-outs. Of course, with no way to evaporate, it's probably going to stay there unless you remove the plastic cover clean it, dry it then return it.
