Questions About Mate 10 and Android Pie - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers
Before start i'd like to tell you about my adveture with my phone
I had a Huawei mate 10 ( ALP-L29 c185) installed 8.0.0.139, rooted with magisk and TWRP (By Pretoriano80) as recovery so yesterday i suddenly think that "i shuld try android 9" (i don't know why?) . I searched here and internet so finally i decided to update by "hurupdater" method. I downloaded stock firmware by "Firmware Finder for Huawei" app (9.0.0.177) and hurupdater 0.4 also twrp_bla_alp_0.7.img for twrp recovery. I put them in same folder on sdcard. Renamed recovery.img to keep recovery as twrp. Lastly i restarted recovery and installed hurupdater.zip.
DANG!!! My phone is bricked....... It gave a lot of errors during installation and when i try to reboot it was bootlooping, cant load recovery interface (twrp or stock). I could enter e-recovery but gives "getting package info failed" error. So ended up with bricked phone in my hands. I tried many ways including hisuite but nada....
Then i remembered "Funky Huawei", bought 1 credit and followed instructions. After long hellish hours (firmware downloading takes long) i have my phone back working with stock 8.0.0.140 rom, stock recovery even relocked bootloader also my whole data was intact. My curosity cost me 20 $ and hours. This morning i realised there is system update 9.0.0.159
So my questions o this point
1)What should i do now? Update to android pie (with stcock recovery of course)? Is it worth trying or just install twrp and root my current rom and go on my way for a while longer ? (till a more stable pie relase)
2) For the future, what was wrong in my update process. I'd never want to make same mistake again..
Thanks...

I have exactly same phone (c185) never tried unlocking bootloader but I updated to emui 9 159 there are some buggy things like when you want to use third party lunchers You can't use gesture navigation and it has so many bugs so not using gesture is better
there are again some problems with third party launchers (im using nova) like sometimes when you go to "resents" its totally blank and you have to force stop "huawei home" to make it right
there are some good changes in camera like new 960 fps slow motion (but there is a huge crop in 240fps 720p and 960fps 720p I can't remember that 240fps had that crop or not) Turning off master ai and some new scene detection but it's slower than last one
there is a new performance mode that i love using it (it feels like a real flagship however it's not because of stupid SOC)
there is a new AI api that android 8 didn't have so most of apps wasn't able to use NPU
in emui 8 there is a little bit better battery
I love changes to my phone so I preferred buggy new firmware to old ones there are so many good little changes in interface (like when you take a picture you can go to gallery then scan it for QR code)
There is a way better Mira cast functionality (and new desktop mode in it)
hi touch, hi vision
These were all expensives I had with emui 9 that I can think of
How did you update @arianamirgholami ?
Meanwhile, I have the same phone but am still on Android Oreo......I have the ALP-L29 8.0.0.141(C185) model. I'm reading more and more about others with this model that have gotten the Android Pie upgrade over the last two months but the upgrade is still not available to me. Makes no sense...I have a stock rom on the phone, I am NOT rooted and my bootloader is locked. Neither hisuite, hicare, system update, nor firmware finder methods gets me anywhere. They all say that I'm on the most recent firmware.... 8.0.0.141(C185). Go figure....

Same here, although my brother and I have the same device (ALP-L29C185) and we're on the same career, he got the pie update like a month ago and nothing for me yet. I think it's a matter of time until our imeis turns.

Yes I saw many people on internet facing same issue, What I assume is that when you purchased the phone it came with 8.0.0.141, that's why its not getting the Pie. Because the phones which were using 8.0.0.140 already got the Pie instead of 8.0.0.141. So one thing you can try is to go back to 8.0.0.140 and then update the phone. I did the same, Installed 8.0.0.140 using HiSuite and then update to Pie.

Look through them to find a rollback package.

Hi ,I updated my HH7 PLK-L01-C185B130 (middle east version) to B380 and then by OTA to B382. I found that security and fast charging options were gone in this update. so I decided to downgrade to Lollipop. I used Rollback package 6.0-5.0.2 to downgrade. although it installed but didn't showed the transition firmware (B300). Now I put already downloaded C432B121 ROM into dload folder of micro SD and flashed it. it installed successfully and now build number is PLK-L01C432B121. The problem is phone's internal storage has been reduced to only 3.8Gb total. I have tried to go to recovery mode to wipe data and cache but it fails and shows "Software install failed" I know i have mixed the firmwares and the old one would still be present in internal storage which has consumed all the storage. Please guide me to recover this. thank you
6.0 works fine here don't know why downgrade
My Huawei honor 7 ( PLK AL 10 ) after updating with 4.0.3 bugs some apps and lot of Chinese apps I want to downgrade in 5.0 I have tried many official Roms but all in vain I also download firmware finder rom b320 but always one problem ( emotionadownload PHP error) please help to get rid from it.
I have the same problem @Awan262626 I use Firmware Finder but it seems that with EMUI 4.0.3 we can't use the System update to "dowload lastest full package" and we can't even have the update menu.
How do I flash rebranded Mate 10 ALP-L29 firmware?
I rebranded and flashed my Mate 10 about 6 months ago, but ever since then I haven't received any OTA updates. That was my first mistake, shoulda got an OTA version firmware... I'm not sure if being rebranded is going to cause any issues. Bootloader is unlocked, and I've recently installed TWRP. Now I wanted to update to Pie/EMUI 9, then found out its just the beta version... so I'm just wanting to get the latest build of EMUI 8. Firmware finder says for c636 is 8.0.0.134.... I've searched all over XDA and google and youtube, and can't find any one place to give enough detail and resources to get this done. I've tried downloading the firmware about 3 or 4 times. Firmware finder on android, I think funkyhuawei or firmwarefinder online, potentially someones Mega link, and somewhere else. It seems sometimes different sites have different resources. My most recent downloads have 2 packages, the update.zip, and the Update_full_ALP-L29_hw_spcseas.zip. Now i'm looking at firmware finder again, they say theres another update_data_full_public.zip which I haven't got yet. I'm just not sure if I need it all, or if some parts are unnecessary, or maybe I don't even need the fullMF-OTA version, maybe just the OTA version... Then when it comes to execution, I've found all sorts of varying methods and I'm open to any. ADB, TWRP, eRecovery, I don't care. I've recently tried TWRP with these 2 packages I've got, and I get an error: 9.. and haven't fully identified what that means just yet. Other methods I've seen are tricking the eRecovery into downloading the firmware from localhost aka the phones own storage. Haven't tried it yet, because firmware finder gets errors while downloading, even without pausing or stopping and on good signal wireless. I've also read about extracting Update.app files from these zips, and it just gets messier and messier. (Much more difficult than my old Oneplus One, just download a rom and flash it in twrp, then flash modding .zips and other things afterwards if you want) TL;DR: I want to update my ALP-L29C636 Mate 10 manually with TWRP to 8.0.0.134. I just need a version that will get me OTA updates again. It's also rebranded. I need to know how many .zips I need, which ones and where to get them. I need to know what to flash it with, TWRP, or ADP or eRecovery and what steps for that method. Looking forward to hearing your suggestions. Thanks in advance!
Can't downgrade from EMUI 9
Hi everyone, When EMUI 9 was first released on Firmware Finder, I've updated my phone with HuRupdate, since then, my phone model has changed from STF-L09C432 to STF-LGRP2-OVS, since then, I'm stuck with the build 9.0.1.157, even though I've tried many time to flash another update or go back to EMUI 8 but I never managed to do it. I've tried with official recoveries, dload folder and it always failed, I've also tried flashing with TWRP, ADB, HWOTA or even MultiTool 8, but it never changed. Last time I tried flashing Kernel I've got an error saying that the file doesn't match the size or the path of the Partition. Have I done something wrong? Will I ever be Able to go back to EMUI 8? And If I ever manage to do it, Will I be able to receive official updates? I've seen that EMUI 9.1 was released as I saw a Honor 9 Lite with it and I want to upgrade to it as soon as possible I'd be thankful if anyone can answer one of these questions!
I have Honor 9 STF-Al 10, with the System Emui 9.0.1.179 Due to some bugs, i intend to downgrade to Oreo. it is said the phone will be hard brick by the method of HuRupdater. the only way to downgrade to Oreo from Emui9 is Hisuite.
I heard about the HiSuite method, but when I go in the update menu it only tells me that i'm using the latest official version (which is wrong), and it doesn't show me any "switch to other version" button to downgrade the phone

I'm using the same one, is it written somewhere which version is the right one or do I have to try and retry each version?

Exactly!
Not sure about If I should edit or double post but I thought that it also might be because my phone is Unlocked?
Wow I got exactly the same issue! Also STF-LGRP2-OVS but 162. No chance to downgrade! I would be also fine with flashing a "normal" L09C432 version of EMUI but don't know how to..
Maybe if someone can post a TWRP Backup of EMUI 8.0 with no user data it could work since we can still have access to TWRP

Please Help with beta firmware downgrade of CMR-AL09
Hello guys, my device has a locked bootloader so my flashing options are limited. I wanted to upgrade to Android 9 and I think I may have flashed a beta wrong firmware (dload method) meant for the WiFi only version. Although my device boots normally and looks like its upgraded to Android Pie, the play store does not have a lot of apps I want to use especially Netflix does not work. I've been trying to flash the stock firmware using the force dload update method for the past two days but nothing works, it just fails. I've downloaded and tried like 10 different firmwares but nothing is recognised. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I have no idea but.. did you ever try "HiSuite"? Well for my P30 Pro phone I downgraded using it. That was from Beta 10 to 9. When Beta 10 had just came out.

Click to collapse Yeah, Hisuite didn't work. Looking at the build number, It seems to be the M5 Pro firmware but the very first version of Android 9. It seems some people had the issue of Google Play not being certified which was resolved with subsequent updates. None of the updates I tried has applied without an unlocked bootloader. However, the solution I came with was to transfer my apps from my phone to it using phone clone app, so at least I have all the apps and Netflix works. Play store is still showing as uncertified.
My phone didn't receive the Android 11 update.
According to the people on reddit it is because I have debloated my phone. I also tried to install the Pixel Experience Plus custom rom at one point but it didn't work, I did reinstall the stock recovery an relocked the bootloader after that. I did factory reset it and even flashed it with an ozip file still no update. also found an ofp file for the Android 11 update but relme flash tool wouldn't work with it. Is there any other way to manually update it or force it to update? Thanks in advance.
Do you really want it? I think it's a bloatware dud. The "security" is not needed and comes at a stiff price as you will see if you load it. Scoped storage sucks. Rule #1, if your OS is running fast, stable and fulfilling its mission... let it be.
You do make a good point. But if it is possible and I don't like it I can always reverse to Android 10. At this point I just want to try it out and try the Pixel Experience rom. If it isn't, well both my phone and I will survive.

As a Samsung user I'm all too aware of that trick. I would investigate what advantages R has over Q that would benefit you. Scoped storage isn't fully implemented on Q apparently and seems to run as well maybe better than Pie. In Q it's scoped storage in all it's blazing cpu cycle sucking glory.
Is there anyway to do it using adb?
I got Realme 7 Pro from Amazon Warehouse with somehow broken security - figerprint scanner didn't work and the phone didn't want update itself thru OTA, even with relocked bootloader and when connected via VPN to Germany, Italy etc. It actually updated to Android 11 C23 using OTA when I changed phone's region to Singapore using the service code. Then I was still able to go back to Android 10 using OZIP file (like described in this guide), or it was also possible to flash individual img files from fastboot using adb as described here. But OTA updates and fingerprint scanner were still broken until I sent the phone to Realme service and they reflashed it completely within warranty - after that fingerprint sensor works properly and I got OTA update to Android 11 C26 right after connecting to Germany over VPN.
