I'm thinking in the possibility of use an Android tablet to develop an HMI interface to control electrical devices.
One of the problems it's that the devices could be long periods of time stored or simply off, so it will be needed to turn off the tablet via software when the device is Off.
The question if it's possible via an Android App/custom ROM/utilizing root/etc to force the Android device turn on when the charger it's connected?, an not enter with the typical battery charging screen.
Hopping that somebody can know the answer because I couldn't find something in the forums right now.
Well I am not sure but I think that you can find a custom rom that has that feature preloaded and you can develop on that platform.
Somebody known of an ROM that could have that funtionality, or somebody that develop an ROM if it could be possible to add that in android or the charging screen can't be hacked?
For the sake of completion, I have found that it's possible turn on an android device using adb, with the command:
Code:
./adb reboot
But that will imply to build the adb app in a microcontroller connected to the USB port. Certanly it will be more easy if it could be activated in a ROM but it may be impossible to do, somebody has information on that?

I have the same issue as the OP i need my tablet to come on when power is connected. (galaxy tab 2 (7) ) does anyone have any other suggestions?
I have been looking for a solution for very long. There still is no one who has guaranteed to invest time in this project. I have, however, come across a few android models which have same or similar features built in their ROM.
For example: Sony Ericsson X10 Mini does exactly what we are looking for. It turns on android OS when the charger is connected.
There are other generic android devices which perform a similar task. There is a feature in such devices namely "Schedule On/Off" which turns the phone on/off at a pre defined time of the day. A handful of devices that I have come across are Spice MI 270 and Micromax A60. There are a lot many such devices available in the market.
Do not forget to post the solution when u get one.

there was an app made by chainfire called Nomoarpowah that would boot the tablet when charging and you could touch the screen to turn on the device, i sent him a few messages over the last couple of months but no reply and it looks like he's stopped development on it.
so there is a way, i don't have the knowledge to do it myself though.
In Android 4.2 the feature is already there
Press Thanks On Getting Helped

Bump for this.
Note 2 > Deodexed Stock ROM > Tapatalk 2
Also very, very, very interested in this feature for my Galaxy Tab 2 (P3100). Was possible to do a nasty hack with playlpm on my Galaxy Tab 1 but doesn't seem to work the same way on SGT2 with CM10.1.2
turn on Andriod when charger it's connected
Hi did you guys ever find a solution? If so can you please post here.......
My LG optimus G Pro E988 auto turn on when charging / connect to power source (laptop)
And also, it wont off when charging. Just keep turned on automatically when I turned it off.
Hello Everyone. I've got a simple question. From a couple of days I'm a "proud" owner of XDA Orbit II. But Windows Mobile was not good for me so I decided to install a Android from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=678102. It's works fine until I install apps from android market. To be fair everything is installing perfectly and the applications work really well, but when I'll restart the phone or just switch it on again, Android just won't work. Luncher starts reading files but it stops on : Failed to find system.img on SD card and the next line says : /bin/can't access ttyl job control turned off. And it;s just hangs there and I must reset the phone. And no matter how many times I'll try to start it again after installing apps this compilation just won't work. How can I use a Android on this phone without any problems and errors ? Maybe You guys and Girls will have a better Android for this phone or some solutions that improves this compilations ? O, by the way, is there any version of android for this phone which supports USB connection(in this one after connecting USB nothing happens, the battery is only charging), camera and blutooth ? I'll really appreciate Your answers and any help You can provided to me. This phone, maybe it's old, but means relay much to me and I'll try my best to make it work perfectly.
Best wishes, Verixin
Has anyone been able to get Android Auto working on this phone? Every time I plug in my phone to my car nothing happens on my phones end but on the cars dashboard it displays the message "This device doesn't support media function" I have the Android Auto app installed and launched and ive tried multiple roms:
Roms Ive Tried:
Jasminerom
Cyanogenmod
Euphoria
Paranoid Android
I have also made sure its set to MTP when connecting via usb and ive toggled USB debugging on and off on all these roms and still the same message!!!
Anyone else experiencing these issues or have been able to get Android Auto to work with vs985?!
Please does anyone have a fix for this?! This is on a 2015 Sonata btw.... Im also using the original usb cable that came with the phone... any help would be appreciated :fingers-crossed:
Edit: Whelp looks like Verizon strikes again... I just found this:
LG G3
"Android Auto is not currently supported in the U.S. on the LG G3 for Verizon Wireless customers. Google is working with LG on compatibility and will announce an update when the issue is resolved."
Verizon Auto incoming. Why else would Big Red cripple a function like that? They don't like completion like Apple so they do all possible to kill it.

Right?! Seriously though this is a huge disappointment... its literally the 1 of 3 phones that doesnt work with it... and it is only transferring data via USB.... someone on XDA must have an idea on how to get this to work properly...
Had this issue on my Note 3. (several diff roms)
Flashed it back to stock. (no root)
Working perfect now.
As per the title, the app I used on my old Samsung S6 doesn't work on the newer OS of the P6, does anyone know of an auto tether tool that will switch on when my sat nav connects.
If the phone didn't **** it 50% of the time when I use the camera app it'd be a simple leave it on solution.
I use this one... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.arlosoft.macrodroid
Finally got around to trying this and BT tethering's been removed from MD on android 11
FFS.
Hi guys
i have the XQ-CQ54 model with android 12 and i'm experiencing a lot of crashes with Android Auto. Tried everything including factory reset. Problem appears both on USB connection and wireless and appears on all cars i've tried it on (about 4 this far of different brands and models).
Anyone else with this?
might be app related ,5 iv is very new and might need a new android auto update to work better i would advise reporting that to google so they can have that feedback .
I would try it on my car but my infotainment is a little bit older so i cant get to reproduce the same effect.

i've tried various versions of android auto, they all crash... but they don't on my Samsung S20FE with same Android OS version (12)
Latest thing i tried was making sure power management is off for both AA and Spotify. We'll see if that makes a difference...
Yet again s20fe is not new on the market ,i know what you are saying but i still feel bugs might need some time to be polished on 5 iv as they dont have same hardware .
You can try to test it in safe mode...tho i am not sure if android auto is disabled or not in safe mode
tried changing battery management settings for apps, i'll see if that makes a difference.

nope, didn't... still crashes...
which firmware version are you running on the CQ54? and which version of Android Auto?
I have an XQ-CQ72 on 64.0.H.11.9, with Android Auto 8.6.124944 and don't have any issues
I have a 5 iv running Android 12 and Android Auto works flawlessly.
It didn't when I first tried it. My previous phone was a S22 and Android Auto worked flawlessly. On swapping the phone to the 5 iv, Android Auto couldn't hold a connection and produced error messages. After checking all the appropriate settings I couldn't find anything untoward. Past experience has shown at this point try a different usb cable....and with a different cable Android Auto started working and has continued to work flawlessly ever since.
I have come across this "sensitivity" to the usb cable before, with an older Huawei phone.
I would suggest trying a different usb cable, if you haven't already, as it may make a difference.

just updated to android 13 (64.1.x) from 64.0.x firmware - same problem except on the way home it was worse than it has ever been before, crashed / disconnected every 5 minutes and reconnected... extremely annoying.
i have 1 IV and don't have crashes. But generally, not as reliable as it was with my XZ2.
Car is Peugeot 3008 mk2 from 2017. Wireless does not work at all but don't really care about that because it just drains battery instead of charging. Now, charging........sometimes it does not charge despite having AA active and using sat nav. Cable that I used with XZ2 (ugreen) does not work at all for AA. And most of the time not even for data on laptop. Cable from XZ2 works with AA every time, did a 5000km trip a few months back, no issues. Except it does not charge sometimes, LED is on, sign for charging is on but battery charge goes down.
Try cleaning the AA app cache. I had same issues w/ my Pixel after update.

Yeah, I've tried that including completely removing / reinstalling app etc.
Now trying on another phone (yes, another 5 IV) which is set up from scratch without restoring from backup.
I have exactly the same behavior with Xperia 5 IV on both Android 12 and 13. Random crashes. Sometime it works for 1 hour, sometimes 5 minutes. It appears to be worse with Android 13.
I tried changing cable, I even bought a new one... no change.
I don't have AA wireless but it does not appear to be cable related. When the crash occurs, my smartwatch (BT) is disconnected.

Hep, another one here!
i'm trying to remove apps one by one now...
Well, I had 1 hours without any crash... after enabling the debug layer for android auto. I didn't notice any difference or additional info but no crash.
Hey Guys; I am facing the same issue. Just, that it's not related to Android Auto.
Many apps were crashing just randomly.
For example, like Tidal, sometimes it was playing music for hours and sometimes just for a few minutes until it crashed.
So I enabled a feature in developer mode which allows to show a crashing dialog. And just a few moments later the nextcloud app crashed and the error message was something like "out of memory".
Looking in to it => Yep, there it was => the OS is holding almost all of the available memory.
So, you might want to check your memory in Settings => Developer Options => Memory.
And since I almost bricked my device last night, I just flashed the latest 64.1.A.0.857 via newflasher and at the moment (fresh OS) it seems to be better - but I will surley find out these days.
Merry Christmas everyone ...
Hi guys, I had similar problems with Android auto. I did a software repair with Xperia Companion, since then AA works fine.
