How can someone port iOS? First, it's not open source and 2nd, the platform is different.

By completing 100 posts. XDA needs to change this policy. This makes a lot of people senior members without even having basic knowledge.

Nahh.. Porting iOS on Android is hard and time consuming. Yes, it is not open source and mostly iOS custom roms are just theme based not entirely iOS.

Can you please be more specific? Do you own this device?
I am using this phone with the global dev rom, Xposed and more for 4 months now and am genuinely happy. Coming from an Xperia Z3 at 3-fold the price tag with constant overheating problems the RN4 simply works smoothly and constantly.
BTW, I would also appreciate a few more choices for alternative roms, but MIUI 8.2 is doing great for me.

Yes I own it and regret buying it, nothing wrong with the device itself, build quality and features are good, the only bad thing about it is the MTK chipset and it is the most important thing in a phone, it overheats and lags when gaming, and the development is already dead for this device thanks to them not sharing their sources. Will never see Nougat on this device for sure.

Okay, but isn't this the standard rant about MTK? You could have known before you decided to buy this device. Your overheating problems could be solved, but I guess you just want to complain for complaints sake.
I will also like a flyme rom for Nikel. Flyme OS looks nice.

Is there any plan of developing on postmarketOS for Redmi Note 3 ?? I hear they are guaranteeing 10 years of support !!

No there is not. I hear they are not going to build and support their fork of Alpine Linux for possibly the worst set of users on XDA.

Oreo is already coming for our device. Why would you need 10 years of software support for this peace of cheap hardware. Look for "smartphones" which are now 10 years old... I wouldn't like to use them right now.

Its not even stable yet , so no way to confirm if it will be available for kenzo or not.
And don't believe the best set of users on XDA , as they are not the developers of kenzo
That's not matter
Coz Google is making android 9.0
After that I'll change my device

Mismanagement? For me my Kate device is always quick enough. Or do you expect 2,6gb free ram of it's 3gb total? Then you misunderstood the usage of ram. Also It was cheap back in the days (bought it from China for approx. 150$) and I'm using it now almost for a year.. it only has 3gb of ram. I believe you have very high Expactions for this cheap device. I never regret that I bought it.
You're a power user. Can the Xiaomi Mi A1 keep up? Rate this thread to express how "healthy" the development scene is for the Xiaomi Mi A1. A higher rating indicates available root methods, kernels, and custom ROMs.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
No kernel source after 4+ month.
Community development will die this way
I just found this one. I hope its true!!

Appearently the sources have been just released : https://www.androidauthority.com/xiaomi-needs-to-adhere-to-the-rules-of-android-832599/
Development is dead. No real progress from the time we did not have sources to the time when we have sources. Sorry mates, I personally do not have knowledge to build roms or kernels myself, else I would ahve contributed. We have a semi functional build of LOS 14.1 and that is all we got.
Development pretty much dead i think. Developers shows no interest to develop for the device anymore, this pretty much caused by Xiaomi themselves.

Sadly it looks that way, maybe something will change, redmi note 5 was released last week and already have official twrp and first custom rom.
But mi A1 is still a great phone, it will get androdi P and I personally love stock Android.
I'd say pretty healthy, especially loving the italian dev community
Plenty of ROMs nowadays for our MiA1.
Any change since mid-April? I'm considering moving on from my Galaxy Note 3 onto this device, since it has all the latest features I'm looking for. (Dual cameras, fingerprint scanner, USB-C port)

I would love having official LineageOS ?
Wonderful development community !

Can someone explain to me why this topic is important?
What are the benefits from a "strong community development"?
Thanks

As of now, there are no samsung phones with a snapdragon 625 chipset, so porting the rom can be a bit tough, or maybe impossible especially considering that samsung never releases the source code of their touch wiz os.

Don't care about Bixby, just the whole rom with looks, touchwiz and everything.

Any talented dev who would be interested in building Maru OS for our beloved pocophone?
It runs lineage OS and when you connect it to a screen it runs ubuntu or debian. With the Hardware of the pocophone it would be a beast.

Wow this is awesome..... @Swapnil Soni
I would love to see Maru Os running on Poco.
Sounds interesting Would definitley try
I found out that poco doesn't support slimport. In that case if someone ports maru os to our phone, only way of connecting it to external display would be using chromecast.

Great Interview given by the main dev of maru os at the great podcast late night Linux. The interview starts at minute 24.

Still hoping that we find any talented dev who would be interested in porting for our beloved poco. Imagine you just connect your phone to google Chromecast and you have a fully fledged desktop PC up running.
@dianxxyyzz would that be a device you would be interested in helping to port?
@abhishek987 have you heard of maru OS?
Wish you all a great weekend
Yes lol , I will build for pico f1 as soon as I get it . I already thinked about it
If it's wireless and Chromecast only, that would limit the usability of the desktop part a lot. Chromecast isn't actually that popular where I live, and not easily buyable either

Sure a wired connetion seems always better in terms of lag but according to Pretam d'Souza (one of the Main dev) chromecast works fairly well. Another option might be miracast.

For all who don't dianxxyyzz is the dev who build already maru OS for the HTC 10, Samsung s9 and I belive some other devices.
I believe that you'll be quite happy with the poco f1 . it's just such a great devices.

Yes , thanks I would really like to see Poco running full Linux distro , I already watched to get one and will build soon so keep in touch . Also it must work with displaylink if it DNT have internal displayport . So DNT worry about wired display it have to be good. We already have tested this and all works great in displaylink setup
I hope this project will materialize.
I`m willing to be a tester.
Maru OS won't be interested to most devs since its still using Oreo as base. Same case with Ubuntu touch too.

Maru now supports wireless display so that should help immensely to kickstart development on pocophone. I'd be willing to do testing.
