Can anyone report on their experience with using the US998 V30 on Verizon?
Does it work with 3G/CDMA?
I have a Verizon 4G Network Extender at home. Anyone using one of those with the US998 V30?
thanks,
I've been using an LG V30+ (US998U, from Bhphoto) for a few months now, on Verizon. I've had zero issues with reception, and I do believe my phone occasionally goes into 3G mode. I don't have an extender to test against/comment on, though.
FYI, in case it's not obvious, there is no support for Wifi calling on Verizon with this version of the phone/OEM ROM. I'm not sure if anyone will work on that later, but I just want to throw it out there.
I also have a US998 on Verizon and the experience has been very good. No issues whatsoever.

I'm using the B&H US998 V30+ on Verizon.
I have a 4g extender in my house.
The phone works with it but it reports 3g on the status bar.
It says 4g under Network and levels.
When the extender is off, phone reports 3g at home because I have poor 4g.
At work it reports 4g.
You will only get a cryptic text message and a missed call notification when you get a voicemail.
Other than those things, I haven't noticed any other problems.

Thanks for the overview of your experience with the 4G Network Extender.
What happens when you dial #48 on your phone? Does it say that "You are under a 4G Network?"

I'll try it when I get home.
EDIT: Yes it does.
You can get rid of the Cryptic text message for voicemails by turning off the Advanced Voice Mail feature on your account (switch it back to Basic Voicemail). I don't know exactly where that's done because my phones are under a company account and I believe the interface is different for people with personal accounts. Either way you can probably call verizon and have them do it for you if you can't find the appropriate interface.

I don't have the advanced voicemail.
Sorry, I meant switch from "Visual Voicemail" back to "Basic Voicemail". Advanced Voicemail was something else entirely (a pay for service if memory serves).

Flashing Verizon Oreo onto US998
Yes, this below is a U.S. Cellular US998, but to my knowledge the only difference between that and "open market" US998 is the IMEI range of the latter (when bought retail) allows bootloader unlock. Other than that they are identical. That's why my stock firmware for open market US998 works just fine on U.S. Cellular US998.
Guess what else works just fine on US998? Verizon Oreo firmware. WOW.

I got my V30 off a guy on Craigslist. Supposedly US unlocked variant. Turns out it's the US cellular variant which puts me in a spot. I can't get OTA updates like I've seen others say. I was able to upgrade using this method however.
My curiosity got the better of me though so using the dev LGup I was able to flash Verizon Oreo on it using partition dl. Say down the road a particular variant gets root, we could use this to flash that variants FW and root?

So after flashing the VZW fw on my US cellular 998, my voicemail issues are fixed. Verizon visual voicemail works and I don't get that weird text every time I get a voicemail. No. I'm a little hesitant since I don't use Verizon. I don't necessarily want my V30 phone identifying itself as VS996 instead of US998.
Also, to flash KDZ I'll need to re-lock the bootloader. I'm afraid my unlock.bin file won't work again if the model number is different.
For the U.S.Cellular model US998 that wouldn't matter as the bootloader can't be unlocked anyway, via the LG Developer Bootloader Unlock list website.
I'll wait for US998 Oreo.

I have this phone with Verizon. I have to use Google's messages app, because i can't send mms pictures with other messaging apps like textra and chomp. However, i can receive mms pictures just fine. Also, the Pulse messaging app seems to work fine.
Whatever you do don't disable "LG IMS" in LG Package Disabler. It completely broke sending and receiving text messages and making and receiving phone calls on my phone. That was fun figuring out...

Textra is my default messaging app on my current phone (Moto X with 7.0). Very strange and disappointing that you can't get it to work on Verizon. Can you send SMS, but not MMS with Textra? Have you tried contacting Textra's tech support?
Can you use VoLTE for simultaneous voice and data over an LTE connection?
Textra mostly works. I can't receive mms, but i can send them just fine. Sms works. I've learned to live with Google's messaging app.

Yesterday I flashed the Verizon VS99610D (Nougat) KDZ onto my B&H US998 V30+ using LGUP and the PartitionDL option. It worked fine and now Voicemail works as expected, just as reported. Model number now shows as VS996.
Unfortunately I lost the ability to connect with LG Bridge, which I was using for backups. The Verizon Software update tool doesn't connect with phone either.
Today I flashed the VS 99620A (Oreo 8.0) using the same method and I have the same results.
If anybody has suggestions for regaining LG Bridge connection, Let me know.
I have a VS996 that I Frankensteined and WTf'd. I flashed it back to stock VS996 from US998 (still rooted) afterward.
I've been rooting and flashing my android phones for about 10 years now, so this isn't new to me. But this phone is confusing as hell to me.
My question is: Are there any custom roms I can flash over VS996?
[ROM][Joan][UNOFFICIAL]ResurrectionRemix v6.1.0[8.1.0] says it works, but in some of the posts, people say they are running on a VS996 that was Frankensteined. Does that mean they have a VS996 but are now running US998 and the rom? Or they flashed to US998 and then back to VS996 and are now running the rom?
Or do I have to reflash US998 and go from there? Do I have to Re-Frankenstein?
Thanks.

All current era (last six months at least) "H930" AOSP/Lineage custom ROMs work with all V30/V30+/V30S variants -- except for T-Mobile H932. This includes VS996.
Think of "H930" label for AOSP/Lineage custom ROMs as meaning it's not for "H932", but includes ALL others. Conversely, do NOT flash anything labelled for "H932" on ANY other V30.

Verizon users can answer that better. Sometimes stuff like texting, VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling can work better on carrier firmware. However I do not know if that's the case with Verizon. I think most Verizon users on US998 have workaround for all that, but I can't be certain
Sent via open market LG US998 V30/V30+
I've heard that you can't run Verizon's VOLTE on non-VS996 firmwares. Most custom ROMs also dont' support VZ-VOLTE because of this. I believe there's a thread with a reward for someone who figures it out, but bottom line is that it doesn't work today. For this reason, I have stayed with VS996. Honestly, it gives you everything you need... and you can easily freeze/disable whatever you don't want. NOTE, you do need the Verizon app to be installed and active for VOLTE to work, from what I've seen... but the rest can be frozen. Incidentally, it's better to freeze/disable than uninstall., because you can always restore it later if needed... too many people try to uninstall and then ask for the APK later to try to fix it...
I'm a Verizon user with a vs996. I have tried the different AOSP roms, and while they do ok, I have always had something not work exactly as it should, i.e., the texting, phone problems, or the quad dac, (depending on the rom) or some other just mostly little (not major) issues.
Last week, I finally tried the vs996 twrp rom, instead of the us998, that I normally run. After about a week, I decided that I did not like it quite as well as the us998 rom and so, yesterday I went back to us998. The vs996 didn't seem to work as smoothly as it should (I don't use some of the stuff people on here want that only Verizon has - - ie, wifi calling). At times I had to do double tap on things, just minor stuff. The other thing is, in order to use the Hotspot, you have to go thru Verizon, but, with the us998, I can use the included hot spot, if need be and not worry about Verizon.
So, I am very happy with the us998 rom. I would like to do more customization, but not a big deal if I don't. It runs the smoothest, for me, of all the roms I have tried.

I'm on Page Plus (Verizon service) and Volte doesn't really concern me. But I understand with roms not working correctly. I've flashed my fair share on my Motorolas. For the time being, I think I'm going to stick with stock since I'm still getting used to this phone. I just wish the recovery had rom slots like my old Droid Razr had so I could test out different roms without screwing things up, lol.
I do love this phone. Such a nice upgrade from the Droid Turbo. It was also nice to unlock it FOR FREE unlike the Turbo.
I did notice something with Titanium Backup (I used to use it on my Samsun Intercept and Razr). When I froze or uninstalled certain apps, they still remained in the App list in Settings as enabled or still installed. It caused havok when they'd try to run on their own (some Google apps). I had to unfreeze them and disable in Settings. Strange. All of the other bloatware still shows as installed, too.

I had the International version of the Moto Quark (sold under various names around the world: Droid Turbo/Moto Turbo/Moto Maxx) and yes the V30 is the phone I chose to upgrade from after 3 years. The V30/V30+ is the successor in spirit to that phone. It's the phone Motorola should have made if they had not lost their way with stupid mods.
For the record, I'm on Total Wireless (Verizon MVNO)... that's why I prefer to have VS996 for the wifi/volte calling.
I don't notice any lagging or slowdowns. I have disabled some of the VZ bloatware, so maybe that's what helped it. I was on US998 originally, but when I couldn't get wifi/volte working I knew I had to stick to this.
Keep in mind, I believe VZ will be going all volte in the near future? At which point, you may be forced to run a volte-capable ROM. Certainly nothing to worry about right now, but I thought that was happening in 2020 or something, so I figured I'd be ready from the start.

I bought a frankestensteined US998 that was a LS998. It was bought running android 7.0, i updated it using LGUP to US99820e Android 8.0 Sept 2018 Security.
I have not rooted (checked it and it not rooted)

I have dont nothing to the phone other than just update it from Android 7 to Android 8
I am running stock US998 and woud like to flash vs996 as i'm on total wireless (i have read about that and know how to do it, easy upgrade)
Can I return to US998 from vs996 just as easy, in case I want To go back to us998 what would i have to do?

Yes. You can flash VS996 KDZ via Frankenstein instructions. You can return to US998 also via Frankenstein instructions.
I had a question for all the rooted/unlocked VS996 users. Im currently running US998 because of the tethering function. I'd rather be on VS996 for the Volte features and just debloat. Has anyone figured out how to get around/disable the tether check Verizon has on this rom? Is there an easy way to get the tethering to work? I even tried the magisk tether module with no luck. Thanks for any suggestions!

All are supported. All custom ROMs can run on all V30 variants. Read the Root Sticky.
What bands do you need? What carrier do you use? That's a more important criteria. For instance H930DS doesn't have important LTE bands needed for North America and vice versa.
All North American variants -- EXCEPT T-mobile H932 -- can be converted to any other variant (firmware, bands, everything). So, if you buy Sprint LS998 V30+ you can convert it to US998 V30+. For bootloader unlock and root, you need fastboot flash commands, therefore models like the LS998 or VS996 have to be (at least temporarily) converted to US998 for the bootloader unlock and TWRP stage. But after that, Verizon users can go back to VS996 firmware via TWRP-flashable zips. Same with LS998, if you are a Sprint customer. But many people (non-Sprint customers) convert to US998 firmware and stay there -- as it's the official carrier unlocked model and has the least bloatware. People often buy the Sprint LS998 V30+ then convert to US998 V30+, as sometimes it's less expensive than US998 V30+ (many of which on eBay are actually former LS998 V30+, already converted by dealers).
If you need East European languages, then you should get the EU H930 V30 or maybe European H930G (V30+).
While all variants are supported, what NOT to get to save time and trouble?
* The Korean variants (i.e. 300) are a step harder to root -- so if you don't NEED Korean variant then don't get that.
* Likewise with T-Mobile H932. The root method is quite different from the others. If you're not actually a T-Mobile customer, no need to go through that.
* AT&T H931 and Canada H933 take much more prep work to run Lineage-based ROMs. Both have to be temporarily converted to US998 anyway for bootloader unlock, but then there's much more tedious steps to boot Lineage ROMs. If you intend to run Lineage base custom ROMs, then don't buy one of those.
__
I run rooted stock firmware myself on US998 V30+ (I've had native US998 and also converted LS998 to US998) -- with most recent LG firmware via TWRP-flashable zips. I use Magisk mods like Anxious V30 to give more features and tweaks.

Rapidly? HA!
Korean variants get most updates first but unless you have Korean carrier not sure you want that.
All eventually get updates. Stock Pie is taking long time to roll out. A few have it, others are coming.

For people that have it, the publicly released 328 and prior all still work until Pie. Verizon Pie KDZ still hasn't been released yet... Been a week since VS996 PIE OTA 30B hit, so a little puzzled there why KDZ not released yet... Point is, even she isn't Pie yet.

Good.
We were talking about an "omnibus" magisk module for rooted stock firmware called Anxious V30. For those that don't run AOSP/Lineage custom ROMs, you can still modify your phone for how you want. This was a post of mine in a thread about month ago, to set the context:
_________
Don't like the look?
Install Nova launcher with cube rotation, your choice of icon packs, your own wallpaper.
Want some mods?
* Install Anxious V30 Magisk mod. (Still for Oreo right now. The dev may develop for Pie when it's ever released for her North American carrier. I'm still on stock, rooted Oreo so that's perfectly fine.)
Enables:
All Lockscreen Weather Animations, Anxious Kernel Script, Custom/V50 App Profiles, DTS:X 3D Surround, Dual Speaker for North American Variants, Falsified Advanced DAC Mode (a.k.a. Forced HIM, but well done), G7/V40/V50 Camera Features (Updated Camera App, Updated Gallery App, Google Lens, Super Bright Mode, Updated AI & Filter Data), Google Phone (stable), Google Sans, JoyPixels 5.0, LG Equalizer Settings (w/ Custom EQ), Pixel Roboto & Various Other Fonts, Pixel WiFi Mod, Razer Phone 2 Nova Launcher, US GPS Config, YouTube Vanced (Black);

* install EdXposed (passes Safety Net) and then install Gravity Box. Other EdXposed mods available.
* Turn on native call recording

Think there's some bloatware you don't need?
Install Titanium Backup, and freeze whatever you don't like. (US998 has almost no bloatware to begin with. I froze Twitter and maybe one other app.)
_____________
Anyway Anxious V30 Magisk module was @TotallyAnxious personal mod she was sharing with the world, created to run on HER personal phone (Verizon VS996, but also worked on all North American V30 and maybe others). Take it or leave it. You either want it or you don't.
While it also ran on all North American phones (especially US998), if people with other variants (H930, H930G, H930D, H930DS) wanted to install it they could -- but don't complain if it doesn't work.
But almost immediately people starting posting comments like, "Can you add this?" "Can you take out that?" "I like everything except X" (x would change on the person.)
We kept reiterating: this her personal module she was sharing with the world, created to run on HER personal phone (Verizon VS996). Take it or leave it. You either want it or you don't.
Still, stuff like "I tried modifying your zip to remove stuff I didn't want. It didn't install correctly. Thought you would like to know."
Why would she like to know how you messed up her mod?
"The latest version doesn't work on H930DS, while previous version did. Why?"
Uh, H930DS is not officially supported as the person had been told many times. Go back to previous version that DOES work or uninstall. But don't post stuff like that in the thread.
"Got bad battery life on most recent version."
Who cares? HER PHONE has no battery issues it she wouldn't have released it. This is her personal module she was sharing with the world, created to run on HER personal phone (Verizon VS996). Take it or leave it. You either want it or you don't. Go back to previous version which worked better for you or uninstall it altogether. She tested every released version thoroughly on her phone, and it works great on HER phone. Their were versions she skipped releasing because they didn't pass her tests.
When she wouldn't answer, people would get mad and start rampaging. We had to get mods involved several times to clean the thread.
People just refused to understand it was NOT a development thread. It was a RELEASE thread: This is her personal module she was sharing with the world, created to run on HER personal phone (Verizon VS996). Take it or leave it. You either want it or you don't.
So, finally she pulled the mod from XDA, right after posting v328. Because it was just too much hassle from people who didn't understand the purpose of the thread... So, now it's on her phone, which is what it was meant for. (I may or may not have an even newer version.) Because she's STILL making it. She's just no longer sharing it with the world.

Great phone, good choice. Congrats!
The whole Anxious discussion is not important to your use of the phone. You can just ignore it. I never used that module. Any mods you want to perform can be done individually, or you can install one of many custom ROMs.
Enjoy your new phone!
I got my v30 US998 ... it updated to oreo only ... not an issue for me.. will try it a bit.
I need to migrate my stuff from my galay s5 (running viperos pie) to my lg v30; what can I use to migrate all my apps with all my data...
Tried google backup but it can't seem to find my latest backup (and I think it can't restore everything like whatsapp).
Tried lg mobile switch but not working.
if there is no such app, I need to use titanium backup and hence root.
Is there a good tutorial to root?

ROOT Your LG V30!
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/root-v30-t3927154
I have an unlocked Sprint lgv30 Plus. It's an LS998. Switched it over to T-Mobile it has a T-Mobile SIM card in it everything works with the phone like LTE and SMS just not MMS. Tried a few times with the techs at T-Mobile and they can't seem to find the problem. Can anybody help with this problem? Thanks in advance
Is it bone-stock otherwise, or have you bootloader unlocked or rooted or rommed to get to LS998?

I don't understand bone stock but it was purchased from Sprint and nothing was done to it it's stock from Sprint. Nothing worked with the T-Mobile SIM until we got it unlocked from Sprint and we created the APN for T-Mobile. We tried all suggested APNs and still everything works but MMS.
Well, if it was purchased from Sprint, then they should be held responsible... it's their phone and ROM after all. TMo merged with Sprint, so it's their problem as well... not yours.
Without rooting the phone, there isn't a lot we can do here on XDA, because the manufacturers and carriers have locked you out of such things anyway. Once rooted, there are things we can try, but this should be your last recourse... it's their problem, make them fix it. If they can't then they should give you a replacement phone that works... after all, that's what you paid for.

You can always convert to US998 and see if that works to get MMS. There are many T-mobile customers on US998 firmware.
I spoke with T-Mobile and they said there's nothing they can do and they're only offering me $21 for the phone so I would like to do what I can to get it working such as routing and putting on us998 but I don't know how

That's surprising. How long ago did you buy this phone? I would certainly put up a much bigger stink with them, as they sold you a defective product. Of course, if it's been a while, then I misunderstood... your initial post implied it was a recent purchase.
Anyway, as for rooting it, use the WTF thread (as mentioned by ldeveraux above). The key is you must read it carefully and completely... multiple times... and on a PC NOT ON THE PHONE. The post is long, but the post is very clear and details ALL the paths you would need to take. You may not need to follow all of them, so you do the ones that apply to you, one by one. Print out the post, and have it handy to use a a checklist to go through the process.
If you're not sure, you can certainly ask on that thread. Keep in mind, MANY people have used this process without issue, so if you're missing something it's likely in the post, and you just need to be more careful reading it. In reality, you should have no questions, as everything is in there... so please make the effort to read it carefully, multiple times, and follow the instructions. It's not difficult... just very specific and precise.

You may not have to unlock bootloader and root just to get T-mobile MMS. I would first just try installing US998 firmware.
If that works, then later you can decide whether you wish the total control over your phone that root brings.
You would need to do some of this anyway for the "WTF" boootloader unlock and root method, but right now you don't have to do it all.
You just need to follow the Frankenstein instructions and first flash Nougat US998 (very old, but necessary), then do a Master Reset (explained in the instructions) to stop any bootlooping. Then you would install US998 firmware more recent like Oreo 20H US9998 (very stable, lot of fixes and improvement).
After that, put in your T-mobile SIM card and see if you get MMS. With US998 firmware you will now have these bands:
US998
CDMA: 800 MHz CDMA
2G GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G UMTS (HSPA):850/900/1900/2100 MHz
4G LTE Bands: 1/2/3/4/5/7/12(17)/13/20/25/66
As I said before, we have lots of T-mobile users on US998 firmware. So, surely they are getting MMS.
If that works to solve your problem and then you still wish to unlock bootloader and root, in the WTF Instructions you would have to do some of those same steps anyway (Nougat US998 and Master Reset), but would just TEMPORARILY use an earlier version of Oreo US998 (like 20a or 20b) before moving on to US998 20h.
Follow the "Frankenstein" instructions linked above. Read in a web browser, not an app. There's also several Trouble Shooting Steps at the bottom of that post.
This same issue happened to me, as well, except the problem was only with sending or receiving from apple devices. MMS and pictures worked fine to and from android devices. I purchased a V30+ from sprint back in 2017. Switched to T-Mo in Jan., 2021. My V30+ is stock. T-Mo's solution was to replace my V30+ with an LG Velvet as they could not figure this out and didn't want to be bothered. Was told it was my device and going from CDMA to GSM. I really like my V30+ and would love to find out how to get MMS working again so I can return this Velvet within the 14 days I have. Is it true if changing from LS998 to US998 that you lose VOLTE and WiFi Calling? These are important to me and would hate to loose those features but would also love to get the DTS audio. Any help is appreciated.

No, that's NOT true with T-Mobile. US998 supports T-Mobile VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling. Or at least they do with older SIM cards. Someone with newer SIM card says something may have changed. But that person had an MVNO SIM card, not official T-Mobile SIM card. Another MVNO said his SIM card still works just fine.
Follow the Frankenstein instructions, change to US998 Nougat, then Master Reset, then US998 Oreo 20h.
I tried looking at the Franken phone instructions and being a newbie I did not understand them so they're no use to me I've rooted phones in the past but I don't understand the instructions
So I have had these strange issues with my v60 just in this last week. It's getting so frustrating that I'm tempted to factory reset.
If I have the quad DAC turned on, the mic on my headphones doesn't work anymore. Phone calls immediately start using the device mic instead.
Also, during a phone call I can't hit play on anything in a browser that has audio. YouTube plays for maybe a tenth of a second after I click on the unmute button and pauses, and I can't hit play. I've tested on other browsers and other sites and the results are the same. This seems to be only in web browsers, other apps seem to function fine.
Has anyone else seen these issues happen? Or perhaps a solution? I couldn't find anything online remotely describing this experience.
Try to re-flash the firmware using “partition mode” in LGUP.

Okay so I'm trying to figure out what all that means, since I haven't played around with this sort of thing for a while. I am downloading the latest firmware from https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-lmv600tm-firmwares/ and I got LGUP from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...er-w-lgmobile-drivers-and-common_dll.4304181/
I assume I can just plug in my phone and hit flash?
Edit: I guess it wasn't the right firmware. I don't have US Cellular. I'm very confused.
Which variation of V60 do you have? You could get the firmware for T-Mobile or Verizon if you have one of these. If you happen to have the AT&T version then the firmware is not available. It is because AT&T don't publicly release their firmware.
As for the process of flashing, it is pretty straight forward. Here is the link.
I have the T-Mobile version but it gave a strange error the other day when I tried to use that last US Cellular firmware.
You can't use US Cellular firmware on T-Mobile V60. Please get the appropriate firmware for V60 T-Mobile only. They are flagged as TMO on the LG firmwares site that you linked earlier.

Oh okay gotcha. So I can see what's available on there is a lower version than what I'm running. Is that going to screw it up?
If I were you, my preference will be for Android 10 not 11. This is because Android 11 (or 12) is not as robust in case of LG V60.

So that's what I'm trying to do at the moment, but LGUP is giving me the error "Error: 0x5319, Not allow to change the device.(NA6_US->NA2_US)" It's currently running V600TM30b and I'm trying to flash V600TM10x_00_TMO_US_OP_1103.kdz. Am I out of luck?
Could you please post a screenshot of your phone's "about" page? I would like to see the exact firmware info. The page I am looking for will give a summary of firmware version etc.

Other than this, the hardware model is LM-V600TM
Excellent. Now may I ask you how did you upgrade to Android 12. Did you do it OTA (where the phone automatically downloads the available update and installs it) or was it something you did yourself by downloading the firmware and flashing it using LGUP? Please correct me if I am wrong but you have a T-Mobile V60 phone that is operating on T-Mobile network, right?

It was OTA, and I've been bouncing between MVNOs. I'm currently on Tello, which operates on the T-Mobile network.
I bought this one unlocked off of eBay from a US-based seller.
Okay. Here is the answer to your firmware problem:
Even though various MVNOs operate on major network operators platform, you can’t use the firmware of that network. So, for example, you choose Tracfone as your mobile company and they use Verizon network to provide you the service. Even though you are functionally using Verizon
backbone, you can’t use Verizon-released firmware. The Verizon firmware is for people who are Verizon customers directly not via MVNO.
The reason is MVNOs are allocated different operating bands by the carrier. So you must get the firmware that is released by your MVNO.
Since your phone is carrier unlocked, there is always the option to move directly to the network without using MVNO. Then you can use the firmware of that network.
There is no other option for you to flash a firmware unless Telio gives you one to download (which is extremely unlikely). I wish there was a better news for you.

Oh jeez. I have hopped across multiple providers too, so I have no idea which MVNO pushed the update. Well, thanks. Maybe I'll factory reset and hope that some of my issues can get curbed that way.
